My personal experiences with Canada are things like going across the border as a 19 year old college student in Detroit, and enjoying legal beers in Windsor- and enthusiastically singing O Canada with the gang at Lee's Imperial Tavern, and getting free pitchers in return, and then as the years passed, skiing in Northern Ontario and talking Red Wings and Maple Leafs with the locals.
This current mess . . . There's no joy in this. I'm hoping the hang at Lee's, and the ski bums at Searchmont, are just as disgusted by what's going on up there. Keep your stick on the ice, boys. Posted by: Ian S. ----- Decline is a choice and one that Seattle civic leaders made long ago. Vancouver appears to be choosing similarly. Whatever one thinks of drug legalization or quasi legalization by ignoring it, drug addicted layabouts do not add one iota to a city's charm--they steal, rape, etc. because their minds were eaten by drugs and all they want to do it get more of it. And to feed their habits, you get a whole nother batch of drug dealers, fences, pimps, and various other criminals to service and exploit addicts. And this includes the helping professions of gubmint and ngos. So instead of emphasizing the productive citizens, the city instead aims at emphasizing and making bank from addicts and their assorted mayhem. Citizens expect results, criminals and addcits don't give a shit about city government performance anymore than cockroaches care about the hygiene of crackhouse residents. Jack Hughes comes from a family of ice hockey athletes. His older brother, Quinn, was drafted seventh overall in the 2018 NHL entry draft by the Vancouver Canucks. His younger brother, Luke, was drafted fourth overall by the Devils in the 2021 NHL entry draft.
Their father, Jim Hughes, is a former ice hockey player and team captain for Providence College, an assistant coach for the Boston Bruins, and the director of player development for the Toronto Maple Leafs. 164 Why does all Canadian Whiskey suck?
Posted by: Boss Moss ------- Aging process limits. Produces a lighter and more neutral spirit. And for mixing in cocktails, it is good enough. Canada does make some decent ryes although it has been years since I took a drink of them or any other alcohol. Doesn't react well with my anti arthritic drugs so I quit other than an occasional glass of wine or cooking with wine. Canadian Whiskey industry sprang up mainly because of Prohibition and has always been concentrated on export to the US. Posted by: whig at February 22, 2026 12:57 PM (E4rtv) 191

===== I read an account of incident. Interesting that the perp carried a shotgun and a can filled with gasoline. The terrorist attack in Meridian, ID was carried out with a vehicle loaded with cans of gasoline. The cans were stashed in bushes and then loaded into the vehicle before the attack on the DHS building. Sounds like a common MO. Posted by: mrp at February 22, 2026 12:57 PM (rj6Yv) Posted by: Maj. Posted by: It's me donna ==== Troonism seems to be the common denominator of recent mass shooters and assassins. Iran's problem is that no one really believes in the fairy tale version of Shiaism anymore. Decades of corruption by mullahs, oppression of the people, and demonstrated flouting of Islam by its leaders has left much belief in the tank. So Iran is left with paying mercenaries including its foreign proxies to act on its behalf because those that believe in the regime are so few. Same reason that Israel was able to penetrate Iran so thoroughly. No one believes in the system and money speaks a lot louder than patriotism over there. Israel, by essentially decapitating Hezblownup leadership and top operatives, hurt Iran's most faithful catspaw for foreign mischief. Taking out Venezuela removed an IRG safehouse. Worthless currency hurts recruiting mercenaries. Posted by: whig at February 22, 2026 01:07 PM (E4rtv) 219

46 years ago to the day the USA beat the Soviet Union to go on to win gold after playing Finland. It was an early morning for us newlyweds out West, but we got up, had breakfast and watched the most momentous game of my life. There have been others since, our teams winning National Championships in football, great victories of college basektball...but nothing compared to USA vs USSR in 1980. It was as if we'd conquered the world...and our team was a ragtag bunch of college boys vs pros. Glorious! Congratulations, men, you did it! Posted by: Mike Hammer ====== Many of those operatives have likely gone native and with the rial going to crap, it makes it harder to control and coordinate formal operations. Hezbollah was probably a more effective catspaw prior to its decapitation by Israel but even there, the attractions of Shia extremism versus simply making money and living the good life has corrupted and derailed operations to some extent. Houthis are mainly a non factor in the US as many of the Yemenis here actually come from the South and hate the Houthis. I am sure that Iran has some capacity to raise mischief in the US and elsewhere in the world in event of a strike but I think their command and control of their operatives has declined in lockstep with the rest of their society. If Iran ends up run by the IRGC military dictatorship after US strikes cause the mullahs to lose power, the desire would be even less to launch attacks that might result in regime annihilation. The effect of morale on competition -- whether military, business, or athletic -- can, in fact, be overstated. It is not a magic, overriding factor that determines results. (Ask the Zulus.) However, it is a powerful X factor that can lead to an upset win over a quantifiably superior opponent, or determine the result between peers. And the Canadians, like Europeans and the rest of the Anglosphere, are the targets of the greatest demoralization project the world has ever known.
Along with Soviet-inspired Gay Race Communists running the zombie psyops of a dead empire, we have Mohammadans lying and killing for Empire as they always have, the Chicoms doing Unrestricted Warfare -- is it still 4th Gen, or are we up to 5th? -- every Third World Shithole desperately demanding we accept their excess human detritus, and (perhaps most potent of all) George Sauron himself, a legit evil genius straight out of James Bond, and avowed enemy of all the nations. Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at February 22, 2026 01:03 PM I think this is the old way of war. The new way to wage war, which has been going on inside the United States by enemies both foreign and domestic, is the Long March Through the Institutions. As well as mass invasion with illegals who take jobs, take housing, perpetrate violence on American citizens and take American citizens' tax dollars through fraud and corruption. Then there's the massive growth of Muslims and Islam in every state in the USA. They have taken over Minnesota, Michigan, NYC and working on Texas and Florida. Very large mosque growth in Texas and Muslims are getting elected into office all over the country. Mamdani is only the most recent high profile. They are using the blueprint they used to take over Canada, the UK and Europe. Just happening at a slower pace in USA due to larger size. But there's no reason for any military attacks, when they are already taking over from within. Posted by: Clyde Shelton at February 22, 2026 01:34 PM (P5BPp) 285

Every problem you mentioned with Canada is real, clear, and present.
However: "and while it is easy and lazy to blame President Trump's tariff rhetoric and reality" His launching off at perceived slights (real or otherwise) and threatening huge tariffs? That really isn't helping things either, and businesses can't set forth their plans for the coming quarter or year, and certainly can't make medium or long term plans with that kind of uncertainty. No, America, you don't get a pass on this one. The uncertainty doesn't help, it's making things worse and it plays into the hands of the Liberal Party who absolutely loves to deflect any blame resulting from its own insane domestic policies onto third parties, and blaming America has been its go-to move for decades. Invites to "just become part of the United States" or referring to our Prime Minister as "The Governor of Canada"? That shit does NOT help us sit down like adults at the table and work things out for the betterment of us both. It just inflames things and lets hotter heads control the room. It's as if there is a pattern...a commonality associated with Left-ruled cities.
Posted by: Mike Hammer Rentier nations are where the top elite do not depend on the majority of citizens in order to rule and make bank. Oil plutocracies are an example. Our cities have become rentier cities, they can tax citizens, no longer depend on a healthy retail/restaurant/etc tax base due to online commerce tax receipts and grubhub, etc., and extract vast amounts of fed and state taxes to service their welfare client state. Average citizens are out of the equation so these places go to rot internally once the dependence on local taxpayers goes away. Upset citizens more often then simply move away to burbs, etc. than try to fight City Hall, leading to a deepening existence of a pseudo economy based on extracting wealth of states and the US government taxpayers without offering much if any in traditional public services of education, crime prevention, transportation, etc. Surfing on a sea of ill gotten loot for their cloud people is what makes cities tick nowadays. Posted by: Emmie And yet, the Lord uses Stan to accomplish his goals. After reading and rereading the Old Testament, Rudyard Kipling's The Gods of the Copybook Headings poem resonates. Wealth breeds a distance from the Lord and disdain for limits on human behavior that is dysfunctional. Stan gets his go at such proud countries as a result and the resulting punishment either causes the country to fail wholesale or tempers it for returning to obedience. Yet, even at the last moment, the Book of Jonah reminds us that repentence of the masses is possible to save for a time from his wrath, a city, state, or nation. Canadians took to defining themselves as 'not Americans' and this negative outlook means that America becomes a measuring stick of what is wrong in Canadian society instead of what is really going on. American society is racist to Canadians and thus anti racism by welcoming all new comers is appropriate. Making things is icky so instead Canada offshores its industry to China and functions as the not American distribution point for Chinese goods to the US. And so on. Europe has the same problem as Canada. Japan, ironically, despite being conquered by the US in WWII, has redefined itself by its own standards instead of trying so hard to be the opposite of America. Gary, I thought. I hear that real estate prices there are a bargain. Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at February 22, 2026 02:03 PM Hammond, Indiana. The site is in Hammond (about 20-30 miles southeast of downtown Chicago/Soldier Field), close to the Illinois border, making it accessible for Chicago-area fans (roughly a 30-40 minute drive). Hammond's mayor and Indiana Gov. Mike Braun have been very public and enthusiastic, positioning it as a major economic opportunity. https://bit.ly/4s22RsB Ironically, Hammond, Indiana is shorter drive from downtown Chicago than Arlington Heights (50-90 minutes depending on traffic). More than once I found myself drinking beers with some of them, including Jeff Carlson, better known as the character Jeff Hanson -- he of the Hanson Brothers trio -- in the movie, Slap Shot.
Posted by: one hour sober at February 22, 2026 01:15 PM (Y1sOo) Time for me to watch Slap Shot this afternoon. I worked as a part time projectionist in the 70's. I ran Slap Shot for nearly a month and watched it every time I worked. Hilarious flick. The Hanson Brothers rule! Canada is superior to the United States in every aspect. Much higher standard of living, and the government actually cares about its people.
