Good morning boys and girls and everything in between from behind enemy lines this morning. Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few house keeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Escanaba)

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List
Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.
Prayer Requests:
12/20 – Morgan, longtime lurker, takes tango lessons from Sebastian, whose son, Matias, is recovering from brain surgery. The MRI was read on 12/19, and the surgeons did not remove the entire tumor. Even though the biopsy indicated the tumor was benign, the boy is probably facing several rounds of chemo. Please pray for the boy’s continued recovery in El Salvador.
1/10 Update – Matias will have surgery in 2 weeks to try and remove the rest of the tumor, and then he will receive radiation therapy.
2/7 Update – Matias came through the second surgery, and was waiting for another MRI before he can start radiation. He has lost weight due to constant vomiting and didn’t sleep for 4 days, but he is sleeping better now and is able to keep food down. He and his parents are really struggling, though.
12/27 – BlackOrchid requested prayers for a Navy Veteran uncle who has been struggling with his health the last few weeks. The root cause is undetermined, but recurrent infection/sepsis keeps sending him back to the hospital. It seems to be worsening his dementia, which makes it harder for BlackOrchid’s aunt to handle him.
1/3 Update – BlackOrchid’s uncle (her “stand-in dad” is still not doing well. He will probably need to be put in a LTC facility although they are doing everything possible to avoid this. He is 86, and at the stage where his immune system can’t fight back well.
1/24 Update – BlackOrchid’s uncle is doing much better. He is carting around an O2 canister to help him, but otherwise is doing well.
1/6 – Diogenes requested prayers for his best friend since college, who was diagnosed with cancer. Within hours or hearing this, the friend’s son, a man that Diogenes has known since he was a baby, collapsed from what appears to be a brain tumor. The prognosis isn’t hopeful. Please pray for both of these fine men.
1/23 Update – Diogenes’ best friend’s son Sean had emergency brain surgery. The labs are back and it’s not good news. He has stage 4 brain cancer. They were scheduled to meet with an oncologist on 1/26 to determine the best pathway ahead for the time he has remaining. This is just crushing news. Thanks to all the Horde for their prayers and support for this fine young man.
2/11 Update – Sean has not started brain cancer treatments yet. There are still some issues to work out. But he had more bad news when his wife’s sister was hit by a truck on 2/10 and is in critical condition (broken back, severe concussion, bleeding on the brain). Diogenes asks for anyone in the Horde to speak up if they know of any support groups for people in Sean’s situation. Thanks in advance.
1/8 - Doof asked for prayers for his mother. She was hit hard by the flu. She couldn’t get out of bed the morning of 1/8 and was sent by ambulance to the hospital. She is alert and communicating but prayers are appreciated for her recovery. Prayers are also appreciated for Doof, as he absolutely despises hospitals.
2/18 Update – Mom was moved to a different facility on 2/12. She is still receiving post-hospital rehab, but this place also has long term care and assisted living options, so more robust care is available. She is happier there and is improving daily. She still has a long way to go, so continued prayers are much appreciated!
1/19 – NR Pax requested prayers for his father, who had a stroke on 1/16. He went back to the hospital on 1/19 and was in the ICU until 1/23 due to influenza. He is in the hospital and they do not know when he will come home.
2/5 Update – On 1/30 his dad was moved out of the hospital and into the PT wing of his retirement community. He will be going through PT twice a day and speech therapy as well. NR Pax’ mother is still dealing with the VA paperwork to get his disability raised to 100%. Thanks to everyone for their prayers.
1/24 – NR Pax requested prayers for his father, who had a stroke on 1/16. He went back to the hospital on 1/19 and was in the ICU until 1/23 due to influenza. He is in the hospital and they do not know when he will come home.
1/24 – Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd posted some updates and requests. In the blessings department: blood glucose has continued to fall, well within normal range. BP is good. The hole where his molar used to be is coming along nicely. The youngest has jaw surgery coming up in February. This is many years in the making and should correct her bite and ease the pain in her jaw and ears. She’s not looking forward to the liquid diet, but is looking forward to the pain relief. Prayers are always appreciated, and based on what they have been through, he knows they are efficacious.
2/7 Update – He does not have any pain related to his lost molar anymore. And his (adult) daughter’s jaw surgery is scheduled for 2/9. She will stay overnight at the hospital in Ann Arbor.
2/14 Update – His daughter’s jaw surgery seems to be fully successful, thanks be to God. She is recuperating rapidly, the swelling is sharply down, and she’s counting the days to getting off the liquid diet.
1/25 – Pawn at AoS asked for prayers after his dear friend Julia passed away. He asked for strength for himself and his family to fill a very large void in this world. He only has a couple of friends left so asks for protection for them.
1/27 – K asked for prayers for K’s neighbor Mike, whose doctor found a lump near Mike’s esophagus. Many thanks.
1/30 – Bulg could use prayers after a distressing medical incident. His heart was racing and he was too weak to even really walk. His doctor thinks it might be AFib; he is wearing a heart monitor to gather more information, and he needs to keep a diary of any other heart-related incidents. Prayers are much appreciated.
2/6 Update – Bulg had two prayers of thanks. The first was that he had a good phone conversation with his sister, from whom he had been estranged for 20 over years. The second was that he does not have AFib.
1/31 – George V asked for prayers for his wife. She needs a heart valve replacement but first needs a heart cath to assess the valve and determine the replacement procedure and perhaps put stents in the coronary arteries that may be partially blocked. Also, the preliminary CT scan of her heart showed spots on her lungs that may be cancerous.
2/4 – BifBewalski posted that it has been a little over a year since he took Smash to the ER for abdominal problems. After a full year of insurance BS, specialists, and other doctors visits, she has been taken back for abdominal surgery today. Please offer a prayer for her successful procedure and a speedy recovery.
2/7 Update – BifBewalski brought Smash home from the overnight stay in the hospital. She is recovering well. The post-surgery fever broke and the pain is minimal. A full recovery is expected. Thank you for the prayers – it truly makes a difference!
2/7 – Frankie asked for prayers for her godmother, Linda, who has been in declining health and recently had to move to a care facility.
2/7 – Vmom deport deport deport requested prayers for her hubby, who has had the coughing crud since 2/2.
2/14 Update – Vmom also asks for prayers on behalf of her husband, as his employer is expected to file for Chapter 11. They are hoping for a decent severance.
2/11 – Bluebell sent an update from grammie winger: "I've finished my 6th round of chemo. Thursday (Feb. 12) I will meet with the surgeon who will decide if surgery is an option for me. If not, I'm not sure if there's a Plan B. Maybe more chemo? Ugh - it's already deteriorated my vision and hearing. Nasty stuff. But it's all in the Lord's hands. I don't know how people who don't have faith do it. I miss Ace but it's something I have to set aside for now. I love each and every one of you. Even the trolls. LOL"
2/11 – Joe Kidd sent an update related to his friend, Bill, who we prayed for in December. Bill’s former girlfriend had passed away, and Bill and the girlfriend’s family were devastated by the loss. Bill has sold the house he (and the girlfriend) had lived in, and sent half the proceeds to his former girlfriend’s family. Just recently, Bill took early retirement to care for his 90 year old mother. Joe Kidd sends thanks. If you know, you know.
2/13 – Whigwife posted that Whig made it through surgery and was resting comfortably.
2/14 – TCN in Alaska asked for advice. She is currently allowing her son, his girlfriend, and their infant to live in a condo she owns, and they are providing a terrible environment for the baby: pot-smoking, booze, no food, no formula. TCN in Alaska asked for advice about how to handle the situation. Prayers would help.
2/14 – L gave an update on her brother Ron. He has been in declining health for the last 6+ months, and has been transferred to a nice facility for hospice. They had been discussing this possibility for months. He would make improvements, then relapse, each time ending up more disabled. The best part is that he is at peace with the decision. He is aware enough to assist with the final plans and is enjoying parceling out his remaining possessions to family and friends. L’s daughter’s cardiac recovery continues. L says she cannot thank all sufficiently for the many prayers.

2 Today is my BiL' memorial service. He passed away a couple weeks ago but with happening far away and cremation its taken time.
Would appreciate prayers for my sister and her 2 children and my nieces daughter.

We did in Cali in the 70s. They had a little replaceable aerosol can in them that would give a little spritz of air freshener into the bag every time you opened the drawer. It didn't help, after 5 days or so it really began to reek so you had to take it out even if it was half full.

My opinion on trash is that it is our gift to future generations. All they have to do is figure out how to extract all the valuable materials from the landfill goldmines that we will leave them.

21 I have thesame problem,TCN, with my stepdaughter. Baby was born 2 months early and has been in the ICU since. Mom/dad out boozing and cracking. One way or the other, the baby will not be there.

No more coffee at present. I'm heading out in a little while for haircut and errands, including feeding the car some ethanol-free gas. There are two or three stations around here that have it for $2.99/gal., and it's often a little higher octane than regular to boot. The Buick does not need higher octane; 87 is fine. But hey, if it's there, why not?

46 Salt moderates the dough rise. You might want to go “low salt”, but your bread doesn’t. James Beard popularized bread making in the 70s. I think he called for a tablespoon of salt in his dough recipes. Now that is a bit much.

Berserker I saw on the ONT wants to try a stand mixer to make dough. They work great, don’t overdo it. There is such a thing as overworking the dough. I didn’t know this at first. I figured if a few minutes is good, why, a half hour or 45 minutes ought to be really good, right? Nope. LOL

Do not call CPS. CPS is asshoe.

Take the baby. Get the parents to sign 1-year guardianship papers while they get their shit straightened out. It's tough to raise infants and toddlers in old age, but it can be done and the positive side is that you will have a great relationship with them, better than "normal" grandparents.

Also, second time around is a lot easier and less stressful because at the end of the day, if the kid's being a public pest, you can shrug and say: "Well, I'm just the grandparent." People will smile and nod.

I'm pretty sure a bill will be introduced confirming and clarifying Trump's authority and a bunch of RINOs will put their necks further into the primary noose by voting against it. Trillions of dollars and thousands of jobs are relying on this, and voting against it should be electoral suicide, but we live in stupid times.

When I was young in the 60’s, growing up in Phoenix, my dad had an early Toyota Land Cruiser, and he would take my brother and I out on weekends looking for old Papago Indian ruins out in the desert and mountain valleys. There were maps around on photo copy, there were a lot and governments hadn’t gotten around to putting any signs or restrictions on them yet. So we’d go looking for pottery shards, mostly, and he’d make some art out of them.

Best place to look was to find the midden, or garbage dump near the ruined Pueblo. It would be a raised area of dirt about 50 yards from the entrance, and if you took a shovel to it, you could find a basketful of broken pottery in quite a short time. I know this sounds illegal now, but at the time nobody cared about them. Most of it was quite intricately colored.

68 Good morning, Horde! I wanted to give a final update on my dad before I have my request taken down.

Dad is out of the PT wing and back home. The community is making some changes to the house such as putting risers on the couches and a seat for the toilet and the shower.

Mom is still working with the VA to get his disability rating bumped up to 100%. This is one of the few times we're grateful that dad never threw away any paperwork because mom is going to bury the VA with his service records.

He still has moments of confusion and he's been taking falls. There's a long road ahead but at least he's home for it.

P.J. Hoffmeister State Park just south of Muskegon was a great site for sandboarding. Lake Michigan isn't warm enough most of the year for the real thing, and as I remember fresh water boards were enormous.

The cheap retail sandwich bread is now made with cake flour, I swear. It gets destroyed trying to spread butter on it. The final straw for me was when a slice broke in half under its own weight. LOL

1.5Tablespoons yeast
1.5 Tablespoons kosher salt
3c water, 100 degrees

Mix by hand until ingredients mixed, loosely, don't over work.
Rise 2-5 hours. Form into a ball, score top.

Bake 450 degrees in a Dutch oven 30 minutes, take lid off, 5 more minutes to brown top.

You can store dough in frig for a couple days, you can divide dough into three smaller balls, 1 small ball is perfect for two people for a soup dinner.

Voila.

Except for the Dutch oven and power used for oven, what's that? 2 bucks for ingredients?

Dutch ovens can be pricey...think enameled from cuisinart.

86 The Emmaus area of PA had a hundred jasper pits that were mined by Indians for thousands of years, for points, knives, scrapers, etc. They were traded with other tribes from ME to FL.
Many of the pits were bulldozed and are under and around the PA Turnpike. Not many folks cared about artifacts back then. Jasper can be sharp enough to shave with. Or, cut throats with.

That would be my house, built in 1974. It is designed with entertainment in mind - formal dining room and also a great room with fireplace and downstairs a second large gathering room with another fireplace. You can basically hold two parties at the same time or host 20 people with room to spare. Instead of going out to eat, my eldest invited her friends here for senior prom and had a buffet and afterwards came back and watched movies downstairs while the parents chatted.

All that died off during Covid, but we're starting to get people coming over again. I expect the grandkids will start having parties as well.

Our house was painted white by the second owner. It used to have dark wood, but all white was a thing. Beige wallpaper. We got rid of that and went with a blue color palette.

There are a few houses in the neighborhood with the original owners and when they hit the market, it's a time warp. I take the virtual tour and always show up for the estate sales. Man, the 70s were ugly.

I grew up with the cheap-ass fake wood paneling everywhere. That's what's under the white paint in my current house. I really like nice dark (real) wood paneling. If I stay in my current house for awhile, I'd like to have some walls that aren't white. Also, re: dutch ovens--I found mine at a thrift store, and it's just a little one, so it's perfect for a two-person loaf. But I also found a clay baker with a lid, and I use that more often than the dutch oven.

If you're willing to pop in to a thrift store regularly, with a specific item in mind, you can usually find it after a few trips.

I like that our parish will do fundraisers for specific local charities.
Envelopes for Catholic Charities still get included periodically for second collections, but giving instead to the local pregnancy crisus group, or good pantry, etc feels a lot better.

181 I will say that our bishop is a sensible guy, and this is probably why the diocese is growing. This Easter will see 50+ people enter the Church, some being baptized, others completing confirmation. I can't remember ever having that many people come in at once.

The students are the primary source of growth. Huge uptick in Mass attendance at the campus location. I've gone to the noon Mass due to the Book Thread and it is packed. They also do candlelight Masses on Sunday evening that are capacity crowds, the vast majority being students. I've never seen it like this before.

When our family entered the Church we were the only people in our parish going through RCIA. The number of seminarians back then was 1/3 of what it is now. The Holy Spirit is very much present.

I'd get a little time in on bread making before trying that one. But if you goof the ciabatta up, you just end up with a loaf that has a crumb like regular bread and a rather thin profile. >8^>

Along the "getting experience" line, I'm partial to Rose Levy Beranbaum's The Bread Bible, which has a pretty decent ciabatta recipe in it. Other authors, like Peter Reinart, are also well worth looking at.

Richard Harris was in the film version of "Camelot" and people questioned his singing ability, so he decided to record an album, and that was one of the songs included. I think it was popular because everyone was on drugs, and Rock was going through a phase where it got pretentious and Serious, no longer being just youthful rebellion. So you get tempo changes, movements, orchestras and stuff.

If you go on Youtube and read the comments on the tune, people find his delivery very sincere and I guess if you're overwrought and worked up, it speaks to you.

I like Donna Summer's cover because it is funny, and highlights the silliness of the thing.

Michigan vs Michigan State right now. It used to be dominated by Michigan, so much so that Wolverines refused to even consider the Spartans to be rivals, who were Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Yes, MSU had a great run in the 50s and 60s, and various fleeting moments of glory, but things had settled into MSU winning every third year or so. Not a threat.

But then Dantonio came along and dominated Ann Arbor. It broke them. They turned to cheating, tearing up the field, trashing the locker room, and at long last have admitted that we are the Enemy Number One. They hate losing to the Buckeyes but losing to the Spartans consistently broke them. Interesting to see what the Mormons will do with the team.

Honestly, it doesn't matter if they go to jail. It would be nice, but ours is a fallen world, and there is much important work to do in terms of turning people back towards God. That should be our focus.

People getting lost in revenge fantasies become the mirror image of our enemies, who serve the great Enemy. That mode of though inevitably leads to black pilling and despair. Too much of that going on. God delivered us from almost certain persecution and for that we should be grateful and continue to press on.

The worst thing we can do isn't to imprison those people, it is to be happy, prosperous and faithful while they sit impotently by on the sidelines. Our joy is a knife in the guts to them, and our public prayers to God and joy in Him tears out their hearts.

No, they are playing it as well as they can. The deportations are still happening. The judges are destroying the judiciary with their Harry Potter-driven fan fiction. When it becomes necessary to ignore them, it will be like an afterthought to the public, not a constitutional crisis. This has always been the plan, just as taking action on things like tariffs that have mountains of case law behind it. How long did SCOTUS take to make a useless ruling? No, they are playing it as well as they can. The deportations are still happening. The judges are destroying the judiciary with their Harry Potter-driven fan fiction. When it becomes necessary to ignore them, it will be like an afterthought to the public, not a constitutional crisis. This has always been the plan, just as taking action on things like tariffs that have mountains of case law behind it. How long did SCOTUS take to make a useless ruling? Almost a year and it accomplished absolutely nothing.

Yes, I very much get that, but we can't allow ourselves to get distracted and overinvested in vengeance. I see it all over the place, people yelling that "if no one goes to jail, burn it all down!"

That is the devil speaking with your voice. He is the one who wants it all burned down. Our anger actually comforts the left, because it shows they are getting to us.

When we laugh at them, they lose it. They cannot handle it. Nothing burns them up more than watching us relax, smile and laugh, completely ignoring them, caught up in our own fun and filling those around us with love.

I bet this thread is THE most enraging to them. People praying for each other, sharing joy, love, making jokes. It's got to drive them nuts seeing us riffing on rock and not really engaging on them.

Besides, anger clouds judgement.

What they fail to understand is that justice can exist outside of the law. When the law and justice are in opposition, the law is often forced to yield. This is often not the case, and that's how you get tyrannies, but that is extremely unlikely in a nation with more firearms than people.

If the law is unjust, there will be a reaction. It will also not be possible to create the same conformity, so there will be just jurisdictions which will push against unjust ones, as we are seeing now. It takes a lot of energy to sustain tyranny, the left is losing theirs rapidly.

355 What they fail to understand is that justice can exist outside of the law. When the law and justice are in opposition, the law is often forced to yield. This is often not the case, and that's how you get tyrannies, but that is extremely unlikely in a nation with more firearms than people.

If the law is unjust, there will be a reaction. It will also not be possible to create the same conformity, so there will be just jurisdictions which will push against unjust ones, as we are seeing now. It takes a lot of energy to sustain tyranny, the left is losing theirs rapidly.

Law in general should be viewed as a dispute resolution mechanism by setting the rules of the game. In a world absent of law, endless disputes will almost always have to be resolved by trial of force. Where leftists have a problem is that they want it both ways, laws when they can obtain them to oppress their foes in a society and no law being enforced against them. And this attitude has spread nationwide among the left. So urban areas devolved into trials of force for their pets and yet law abiders are subject to draconian enforcement.

That was how the Warlord Era started - the monarchy was overthrown, replaced by a Republic, but when the general who ruled it died, the regional commanders set up their own mini-states. That could happen again, with each regional command being quasi-independent.

The PLA is loyal to the Party, not China, and if the Party falters, there is no higher cause than yourself. I haven't gotten to watch the latest videos from China yet. Looking forward to it, though.

As we saw in Spain. I think the level of voter fraud is much bigger than anyone thinks. Blue jurisdictions used to course correct and I think that the system has been successfully rigged for that to be impossible to stop within the states because of that capture.

The danger of civil war was greatest when the Dems controlled the White House and therefore the military, which was staffed with yes-men at its highest levels. What I most feared was a clash between national and state forces because that would create a situation of divided loyalties and intense combat for control of bases and installations. Very much Spain.

But now, the correlation of forces is completely lop-sided. Even blue state National Guard units will follow Trump. If Newsome, and Walz had thought they could create an incident with them, they would have, but they know it would end in their humilation and arrest.

I think the situation was a so-called "constitutional crisis" when the first few judges overstepped their authorities. In some cases more than once or twice. And some refused to reconsider. Here where I think he is right. The justices trampled on the constitutionality so many times, that this should have been no brainer. They become uber legalese when they have a very plausible and legal action of a Republican , and been looking the other way when it's a Democrat. They show their "inner" preference. Obamacare was a no brainer but Roberts twisted himself into a pretzel, and what most abhorrent , took action that he now claims belongs to Congress! I absolutely despise the University of Michigan and regard Ann Arbor as Lovecraftian nightmare, but their hospital is amazing. Everything happened on time, service was prompt, and her recovery is proceeding much faster than my other daughter and wife, who had the same procedure but at a different facility.

Actually, the number of guns seized, stolen, or tuned in by Canadians is minuscule. It's probably a safe bet to guess that the number of handguns smuggled into the country across border-straddling Indian reserves every week exceeds the number exceeds the number of lawfully-owned firearms surrendered to the Nazis. Gorsuch shows his idiosyncratic hypertextualism theory that ignores common understanding of laws so he can invent transexuals covered by the Civil Rights Act but not tariffs as a means of affecting importation of goods from other countries while allowing all other forms of blocking or limiting them. His undignified assault on the three dissenters was also indicative of his screwball idiosyncratic tangents on statutory law.
