Obviously she is a very talented artist. The skin tones, the brilliant points of color in the pitcher and the leaves, even the texture of the hair and rock all blend to make a coherent look. The ruby depth of the pitcher is especially eye catching. She was born in Virginia and the background reminded me of the Blue Ridge. The choice of the title is interesting. It is so ambiguous it compels the viewer to wonder about it and speculate, looking for the artist's thoughts or, more importantly, their own.
I'm impressed that someone so young could do this. I would definitely hang it. Now to look for her other works. Posted by: JTB at February 23, 2026 09:49 AM (yTvNw) 85

OK, to you she does not look like Heaven - just a nekkid babe on the rocks. However, considering that this was painted by a woman, and women are known to insert themselves into their entertainment (e.g., boys play with a superman toy and want to be more like superman, girls want superman to be more like them), maybe the artist imagines that she is the nude girl on the rock peering down onto a Heaven that's not in our view? Levin managed something you don't see often these days. The woman is nude, yes, but not a Barbie Doll model type. She is simply and pleasantly feminine. But her posture is so relaxed she appears natural, not posing for effect. It takes away most sexual tension and emphasizes contemplation of her situation.
I can easily imagine this scene painted by Andrew Wyeth or even Carl Larrson. Posted by: JTB at February 23, 2026 10:06 AM (yTvNw) 117

Otherwise, no complaints. Would add to my computer background rotation. Takes me back to my Art 100 course in college. (Art for Physics Majors.) We all too briefly had a nude model who looked much like this. I did not paint her this well. We also, memorably, had a model who was more like the naked fat guy on the ottoman, largish gal who had obviously lost many pounds so she was all folds of flesh. Wow, I found an interview with the painter and she's kind of based:
Dana explained, "There is a terrible frustration when studying at most art schools or in a university art department because you are not being taught basic drawing skills which are the foundation of any kind of representational art. Its as if two-dimensional representational art no longer has a place there. Students who are interested in becoming a realist artists are left out of the system and graduate without the skills necessary to begin a career as an artist. College is a great financial expense and one should graduate with some skills to earn a living. There are specific standards in classical or academic art by which to create and judge the quality of work. These skills are taught not in traditional colleges and universities, but in ateliers. Modern art, which is the focus of most BFA and MFA programs is subjective and this makes it difficult to set standards." Posted by: 18-1 at February 23, 2026 10:21 AM (sKqQm) 162

Newsom Tells Black Audience He's Just Like Them Because He Has a Mental Disorder Deny all you like, but yes, as Chad Prather explained, "Gavin Newsom told a black audience that he’s just like them because of his low SAT scores and inability to read." Newsom made his "I'm like you... I'm a 960 SAT guy" comments during a book tour stop in Atlanta on Sunday while promoting his memoir, Young Man in a Hurry. In too much of a hurry to stop and consider comparing his mediocre SAT score — which was due to dyslexia — to a largely black audience. "His way of bonding with black people is to tell them how stupid he is & that he can’t read," entertainer Nikki Minaj said. "This means my first read on him was correct. He’s been handed so many things & put in high positions he never earned or deserved." She went on: "Do you wanna know the craziest part of this footage that will haunt him forever? He’s literally slowing his speech down & talking in a sporadic cadence." https://is.gd/yZQWV6 Posted by: Archimedes at February 23, 2026 10:21 AM (Riz8t) 163

One of my neighbors has a 4 wheel vehicle with an attached plow.
He seems to have a lot of fun with it. The problem with having only a small plow when living in a high snow environment is eventually the banks get so high that plowing new snowfall doesn't do anything except narrow your driveway over the course of a normal winter. I learned this while living in Michigan and having the plow attachment for my John Deere lawn and garden tractor. Had to invest in a 2-stage snow blower (Yard Machines) to get that newly fallen snow up and over the banks lining the driveway. Posted by: one hour sober at February 23, 2026 10:27 AM (Y1sOo) 176

"... each of us makes our own weather..." "The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think, say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes” Posted by: From Charles Swindoll at February 23, 2026 10:28 AM (2Ez/1) 179

I've got a husqvarna 27" 2-stage snowblower. It's the only thing that makes living in Maine bearable. I actually enjoy snowblowing - any machine that is designed to pick up something and throw it 50' in any direction is a lot of fun. The only thing I wish my snowblower had was a chute that could aim slightly behind me - it would allow me to put the snow in the perfect location since there's always that moment when you get to the end of the driveway where the snowplow bank is and you end up shooting it back into the road - which then you need to go clean up. Fenelon, I recall the TV broadcasts Bishop Sheen did. If you get a chance, read some of his books. They are wonderful, positive, and still realistic. He had a way of explaining things clearly on the same level as CS Lewis, perhaps even more down to earth. Posted by: JTB at February 23, 2026 10:45 AM (yTvNw) 223
Yep yep!!
People instinctively go for “bigger is better” but in this case less is more. You definitely want two stage, but a 22 or 24 inch is all you need. No need for those monsters. Posted by: Inconvenient Truth at February 23, 2026 10:43 AM (ehU09) If you have a large area to clear, a bigger machine gets it done faster. And you have more room to maneuver it. Realistically, with the necessary overlapping passes, a 27" machine clears about 24" each pass, anyway. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at February 23, 2026 10:46 AM (8zz6B) 224

I had a 2-stroke snoblower for a while. They probably aren’t made any longer because reasons.
Engine is much lighter, thus much easy to maneuver. High RPM, and the deeper the snow, the better it worked. Noisy for sure, but it was a better system I think for residential driveways. Posted by: Common Tater at February 23, 2026 10:47 AM (4vbgA) 228

The only thing I wish my snowblower had was a chute that could aim slightly behind me - it would allow me to put the snow in the perfect location since there's always that moment when you get to the end of the driveway where the snowplow bank is and you end up shooting it back into the road - which then you need to go clean up.
Posted by: Defenestratus at February 23, 2026 10:42 AM (WYStd) My Big Ass Arien™ chute can pretty much be rotated to nearly reach that angle. Throwing that snow 50 feet or more is pretty cool. Doesn't take long to clear the 60 foot driveway. On a hill, no less. I replaced both drive belts, traction and auger, last fall. Just in case. Have extra shear bolts as well as two spare belts. You definitely want two-stages for better clearing, but a larger machine is a pain to maneuver and store. A smaller two-stage is quite adequate for the average suburban driveway and sidewalk.
Posted by: a.moron at February 23, 2026 10:36 AM (X5Jzz) Yup...100% in agreement. I bought a bigger machine to replace my old Ariens because I like to help out my neighbors, and we tend to get heavy snow. But it is definitely more of a pain in the ass to maneuver around. The upside is that it is fuel injected, so I don't really have to worry about the fuel as much. And damn! it can throw the snow a long, long way! Posted by: Humidity at February 23, 2026 10:46 AM (2Ez/1) Humidity with snow is a thing and it sucks bigly. The snow that causes heart attacks when shoveled is heavy because of the high water content which is due to humidity in the air when it snows. The light fluffy stuff falls when the air is dry. You can clear that with a lead blower. Posted by: Inconvenient Truth at February 23, 2026 10:50 AM (ehU09) Posted by: anachronda at February 23, 2026 10:50 AM (sGtp+) 242
