39 More seriously, this totally looks like the kind of painting you see on Antiques Roadshow, where the dude inherited it from a quirky great uncle, and the wife and kids have always made fun of it, so it's been hung discretely in his basement workshop/den for decades. When he shows up to the show the dowdy, serious art appraiser from Boston lit up like a little girl on Christmas morning. When she tells him that actually, this is a great example of a currently hot NYC artist from the 60's, worth more than his kid's college tuition, the dude smiles, nods and says he can't wait to tell the family he has exquisite taste.

118 I really like the composition of this one. The fusion of the elements in their lives is quite sweet, and a dual-purpose of responsibilities in what is a very difficult way of life for a married coupe comes across as easier because of it. The storms of life surround them, but they're unfazed by them in their mutual adoration.

Head to head poll between JD Vance and Newsom for 2028 is encouraging! Yahoo News/ YouGov poll of US adults from Feb. 9-12: JD 43% Newsom 49%

Even as a stalking horse, Newsom can drive Vance's poll numbers down farther. And Newsom won’t have to try all that hard for the simple fact that Vance is widely disliked.

Newsom is a bit of lightning rod, so not surprising. He's a good man, but a man with a LOT of baggage. We love him for standing up to Trump, but he can be soooo easily attacked and dragged into the mud with all the negative shit around him.

What negative sh*t? Any Democratic candidate will be dragged through the mud, whether warranted or not. We need a candidate who can wash off and loudly sling it back. I think Newsom fits the bill.

Newsom is sharp as a whip and comes across quite well, IMO. We shall see how this progresses on the DEM side as I know Newsom has his detractors, but I like him. That doesn't mean I'm ready to say "he's the one," but he COULD be.

People do NOT like JD Vance. Newsom may or may not be the one in 2028, but he has charisma and good looks and knows how to handle social media

It plays a video taken of someone walking down the street in a random city and you have to guess where they are.

But one of the strongest clues? What are the women wearing. There is much less variation in how men dress.

Newsom said he was just like black people because he's low IQ and illiterate. That's effectively the same as dropping out.

Am I the only one that gets the joke?

======

Yeah, troll, as I surmised.

Newsom has been embarrassing himself for attention since the gerrymander thing fell out of the news.

It was all just a sideshow until Kamala announced anyway.

270 203 I struggle to understand how its cultural imprint is so large and the film isn't as forgotten as most sex comedies from the 80s.

that's the awesome power unleashed by having a trs-80 color computer in the band.

271 I see that Providence, RI won a record 37.9" in this weekend's snow lottery. Robert Reich would have been screwed had he wandered outside in that.

274 The Hill, GOP members call on Tony Gonzales to resign over alleged affair, 02/23/26
------
In August 2022, Jay Jones sent a series of text messages to then-Republican Delegate Carrie Coyner. In the messages, Jones used graphic and violent language regarding then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert, including suggesting that if he had two bullets for three people (listing Gilbert, Hitler, and Pol Pot), "Gilbert gets two bullets to the head."

Delegate Coyner responded to the messages by saying, "Jay please stop," to which Jones replied "lol. okay okay".

The messages resurfaced in October 2025, shortly before the election, causing a bipartisan backlash.

Jones acknowledged sending the messages, apologized to Speaker Gilbert and his family, and stated that reading the words back made him "sick to [his] stomach" and that he was "embarrassed, ashamed and sorry."

Despite calls from Republicans for him to drop out of the race, Jones continued his campaign and subsequently won the election for Attorney General. (AI Overview)

276 “Malignant Dwarf” was the moniker assigned to one of the bad guys on the radio serial Space Patrol and is certainly suitable for Mr. Reich.

278 The Nation: The Ugly Underbelly of the US Men’s Hockey Victory. The real Olympic heroes were the athletes who stood up for each other—and against Trump.

You can't praise hard work, sacrifice and teamwork and then expect people to look up to a bunch of bootlickers while ignoring the athletes who speak out for their principles. Which USA player will give their gold medal to Trump?

As a Canadian. Massive props to the women's team. Gutted to see our ladies lose, but the U.S women's team deserved the win. Fuck the guys team.

as an Australian I was sympathetic to your team. Then these videos emerge with the US Men's Hockey team kneeling to Trump. The world is now with Canada.

Elbows Up.

Trump and Kash both ruined a fantastic performance. I was so excited for them, then they ruined it. Everything Trump touches turns to shit, then dies.

They won, and then immediately shared a misogynistic joke about the US Women's Team with Trump. You'll have to excuse me if I don't join the celebration.

Very cool of these chuds to take a great moment and ruin it forever. They may have won the gold but they're still a bunch of fucking losers.
