23 It seems this was painted in a transitional period for Cassatt. She just started painting impressionistically, but the composition is quite conventional, not as bold as her mature work.

Sorry I couldn't think of anything funny to say, not even a dumb pun.

45 Mary Cassatt is an interesting artist. Her portraits, especially the faces, are more realistic than the backgrounds and landscapes. Her still life of lilacs is quite Impressionistic but still conveys the essence so strongly you can almost smell the bouquet in the vase. In today's example the woman's figure and face are realistic but the clothing, plants and reflections of color in the glass could have been done by Monet. It's a pleasant combination. After the sharp lines and dull colors of yesterday's art, this is lively and enjoyable.

Jean Pierre Jeunet's follow up, The Very Long Engagement, is not quite as outright funny but is the same kind of film with a more deeply felt emotional core.

They're correct about that, but they didn't care about that sort of stuff when Wray did it all the time, and it's penny ante bullshit I don't particularly care about.

The problem I have is that CNN is running an article making that exact point.

I've remained neutral about Patel and Bondi so far, even though I'm not impressed by their performance. But if CNN is running interference for Kash Patel, that's a very, very bad indicator.

I just balk at regime media defending a Trump appointee - that tells me he's a regime figure more than a MAGA figure. Mary Cassatt
Metropolitan Museum of Art

It's pretty and peaceful; I like it a great deal.
---
Wikipedia, 'Lydia Crocheting in the Garden at Marly'

In part, "Mary Cassatt's family had come to visit her at Marly-le-Roi in the summer of 1880 where the painter was living with her sister Lydia. Lydia, who suffered from Bright's disease, had moved from Philadelphia to live with Cassatt, who had relocated to Paris. At the time, unmarried women did not live alone, and as Lydia's disease progressed, she was no longer able to travel. The remainder of the family joined the sisters in the summer of 1880 and Cassatt's work at that time shifted to images depicting home life. Lydia became a frequent subject of Cassatt's work until her death in 1882.[1] Although Cassatt usually avoided plein air painting, the vivid representation of sunlight in this work suggests that it was painted in the garden.[2]"

Dear lord, the idea that Legislatures should also Executive? You're just replacing a president installed for a set amount of time with a Prime Minister, who's deeply weaker institutionally.

Anyone who looks across the pond to England and says, "That's good governance" is insane.

Also, if you want an executive with less power, give the government less power. But that's not an option. Ever. "I want the government to be all powerful," is just a base assumption that they'll never question.

236 The other thing to remember is that most systems have no checks on the overall power of the government. No powers enumerated in the constitution or bill of rights to set guard rails. They can literally do as they please. Often, even if they say they do, it is at the mercy of the government to decide what it can or can't do.

Civilization is just a very very thin facade on might makes right tribalism.

This is the thing the left both wants and really does not want, because they are not looking at the backside of things and realizing the document protects them as well.

"Top of the political class of one party for 20 years and former Secretary of State under previous Democrat administration is more of an outsider than New York real estate mogul who's never held office before."

Partisanship makes one stupid.

But...Democrats are desperate for an actual outsider. They just reject all of them.

They want an outsider that says all the same things as insiders. But that's not what outsiders do. Outsiders challenge assumptions. Trump did it on several fronts (Iraq and immigration). Democrats need something like that.

But, their media ecosystem attacks and shuts down anyone who tries. Trump had the advantage that the media ecosystem propped him up because they thought it would hurt the GOP.

On the surface, he was.

No real ties to any major national power structure. He was an upstart.

But his outsiderism brought racialism and Chicago corruption to the Democrat Party at a time when anyone could have won as a Democrat after post-W and with John McCain as the nominee.

The Democrat party carefully stage-managed Obama's political career so that he looked like an outsider. They ran him for President as soon as they could so that he didn't get the stank of being a Senator on him any more than he already had.

It has been quite enlightening watching the WNBA's reaction to Caitlyn Clark, and the NBA's reaction to Nikola Jokic, both fabulously talented players who happen to be white.

The rejection of this style of diversity has been quite a show. A very ugly show in the case of Clark, who has been openly targeted for assault every time she steps on the court.

Your point about a Democrat is taken.

But any Republican getting the "oxygen" they gave him would have been obliterated a million times over. Trump turned the media to his advantage, as he has continued to do because he knows how to use them.

That's not the same as him having any actual advantage. There was a VERY early time where they thought he would be an easy opponent but at virtually no point did they do anything but try to eliminate him, because the higher up Democrats and Unparty knew, as I did, that he was the only person with a legitimate shot to beat The Hag.

I watch a lot of Morning Joe in 2016 to see how they thought. Mika and Joe marveled at how available Trump was - you called and you got him, not some assistant, and he always said yes to media requests. He was irresistible to them, even though they kinda hated it.

A mostly well kept secret for you: KY is right, they do have the power to do that, whether or not they'll actually pass it.

There has always been a certain number of post-86 stamp approvals and agency-to-individual transfers going on, for those with connections. The law isn't just that the .gov is allowed to make these transfers at will; it's that they don't have to approve transfers outside of those. But "don't have to" isn't "can't" or "won't".

The ATF can, and does, approve post-86 mg's straight to individuals. Just not you.
