The Morning Report — 2/20/26

MamdaniDog.jpg

Good morning kids. Once again we've got trouble at home and trouble abroad (hmm, sounds like the opening of a Grateful Dead ditty) Let's start off overseas with things heating up in and around Iran. The internal unrest inside that nation that we had all thought or hoped would at long last see the toppling of the Muallahocracy appears, at least from what I can tell, to have significantly quieted down. Of course the IRGC and other security forces have arrested and/or executed hundreds if not thousands of protesters at this point and hence the quieting down. That said, as the unrest was building, President Trump ordered a carrier battle group to take up station in the Mediterranean within striking range of Iran and now that it is in position, the saber rattling is reaching a fever pitch.

President Donald J. Trump warned that the U.S. could strike Iran if a nuclear deal is not reached within the next ten days. . . President Trump, world leaders attending the Board of Peace meeting, and Iranian officials involved in nuclear negotiations.. . February 19, 2026, during the inaugural Board of Peace meeting in Washington, DC.. . : “We may have to take it a step further, or we may not. Maybe we’re going to make a deal. You’re going to be finding out over the next probably ten days.” — President Donald Trump . . The U.S. military has mobilized assets in the Middle East, as nuclear negotiations with Iran remain ongoing.

I seriously do not understand what the hell this is all about. First, I thought we along with the Israelis took out Iran's nuclear capabilities with the bombing campaign a few months ago? And what's to negotiate? Why is allowing their heinous, evil government to remain in power an acceptable outcome for a promise that is not worth the paper it's written on?!

And this whole Board of Peace nonsense is a complete waste of time given the nature of Islam, despite the supposed phony moderation of some of the players involved. Islam has been on the march for close to a millennium and a half and it will not stop until it conquers the entire world, even if it means bringing about Armageddon to obtain that goal. And Armageddon is a central pillar of Shiite Twelverism (look it up) which is at the heart of the Iranian regime.

Until Islam reforms itself or is eradicated from the face of the Earth for all time, there will be no peace in the region and indeed the rest of the world where it is allowed to flourish.

So, dealing with the Mullahs is one thing, but back here at home, President Trump needs to park a carrier battle group up the sigmoid of the Judiciary:

On Thursday, a federal judge in California overturned a previous immigration court ruling that supported the Trump administration’s illegal immigrant detention policies. U.S. District Court Judge Sunshine Sykes, a Joe Biden appointee, criticized the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for their characterization of detainees as the “worst of the worst.”“‘Worst of the worst’ is an inaccurate description of most of those affected by DHS and ICE’s operations,” Judge Sykes ruled. She argued that the administration’s language was designed to justify the scale of its actions against illegal immigrants.“Even though these press releases might contain an inkling of truth, they ignore a greater, more dire reality,” she claimed, adding: “Beyond its terror against noncitizens, the executive branch has extended its violence on its own citizens, killing two American citizens—Renée Good and Alex Pretti—in Minnesota,” Sykes wrote in her decision, adding, “The threats posed by the executive branch cannot be viewed in isolation.”The ruling, if upheld, could block mass deportations and ensure bond hearings for many non-convicted illegal immigrant detainees. Previously, DHS had denied bond hearings to migrants arrested by federal immigration authorities, even if they had been in the United States for years. Those who recently illegally crossed the border were also not guaranteed immediate bond hearings under the policy.

And yet, per Tom Homan:

” White House border czar Tom Homan said that there will be “mass deportation. . . “I will do whatever I can, because the president has made a promise to the American people, there will be mass deportation, but it’s going to prioritize public safety threats first. And that’s just the way we should be doing it. Targeted enforcement operations are a way to go. And for the people are going nuts is if you’re walking away from mass deportation. Look at the numbers. We already got record numbers to deportation but arresting the public safety threat first makes sense because you’re the biggest danger to the community. Prioritize public safety threats and national security threats doesn’t mean to forget about everybody else. I’ve said it from day one, if you’re in the country illegally, you’re not off the table. We’re looking for you, and we’ll remove you when we find you.”

So Mr. Border Czar, how does your declaration square with what Biden's hack in black has said and done.

26 For the fearful, fragile, and timid—those who seek security, rather than progress—socialism (in theory) provides a ready tonic to all of our anxieties.

I think there is a bit more to that though. For the most part, job prospects are dim for them because companies want H1-Bs filling the offices at slave wages. Buy a house? Start a family? Without inherited wealth, that's not an easy prospect.

And don't get me started on how tough the dating world is for them.

So with all that against them, along comes Big Daddy Government telling them "We will give you everything for free in return, we want-" and they're signing on the dotted line before they can finish the sentence.

47 America’s public schools do not teach millions of students the truth about socialism.

Schools don't teach much of anything, if one simply looks around at their product.

Whatever glories about "Democratic Socialism" the government schools are pushing, one would think would have as much stick as remembering the Pythagorean Theorem.

One thing about lies, everyone tells them, and everyone has a differing lie about a given topic. So its 100% certain that the lies of socialism by one "educator" is different than the lies of socialism told by another.

We've been watching all the hockey games, male and female. The USA women have been totally badass. They played brilliant hockey, aggressive and with precision. They were always a class act even if they completely overwhelmed the other team; their coach was the first to go to the other coach and shake hands. They have a black player and she's the first black woman to win hockey gold, but she is not making her race a thing. And rhey all sang the star spangled banner together as a team during their medal ceremony!! Love these ladies. Shut up and skate pays off.

Not specifically CDL's, but the Kentucky scheme that was run by various DMV clerks to hand out Real ID's to the illegals did, or likely will, put several people in jail.

It wasn't a statewide. IIRC focused around the blue shit holes here. No surprise.

72 Article 34 says that a woman who goes to her parents’ home without her husband’s permission – even to escape violence – faces up to three months in prison. Family members who shelter her face the same sentence.

The code explicitly distinguishes between “free” citizens and “slaves.”

Is this really a legitimate concern -- that they will attack us more than they already do? Should our actions be circumscribed by this concern? They attack Trump for breathing. There are ways to go about this war we apparently refuse to even try. Such as assembling a team of legal scholars to hold press briefings dissecting the legally sloppy and politicized rulings (personalizing and polarizing these black-robed tools of the Left). The bully pulpit (not these rambling "gaggles" with reporters but incisive, focused analyses). This legal insurrection is nothing short of a Constitutional crisis -- treat it as such.

104 A heritage American would not take food if not needy.

Someone from a third-world s*thole low-trust society would take as much as they can carry if not needy.

We no longer have the luxury of projecting any WASP ethics on others. For example, many heritage Americans have "gratitude" in their vocabulary where most of the world does not. Instead, they see gifts, gratuities and mercy as weakness, as if you don't value the thing that you are giving away and they see you as stupid and needing further exploiting.

It also shows up in motivation. Heritage Americans often have vocations, they see the world as dynamic and growing through wealth generation; the rest of the world sees it as a finite pie and they are angling for more money and status by taking from others.

We are not the same, and America, for as long as we have the barbarians in our midst is on a shithole trajectory.

This isn't really new though. There have been a large number of Americans demanding free shit from the taxpayers for a long time now. Yes they use the term for it when they wouldn't have 40 years ago but the sentiment is the same.

Yes, Garcia is frustrating.

But in the meantime, DHS deported 700,000 others.

And Garcia has an ankle monitor on.

The judicial coup around immigration is either sweeping rulings that the admin never follows because they get overturned anyway or precisely targeted rulings for individuals that suck up some minor media attention, always end with them being deported anyway, and distract from the literally hundreds of thousands who just sign a waiver to leave and be barred from re-entry for 10 years.

With 50 co-sponsors, the SAVE act can pass without Mitch (or Tillis or Murk). Getting Collins on board seems like a signal that leadership is actually going to try. Her vote for "controversial" things for the GOP tends to mean that it'll pass. That leadership needs her, and she said yes (I think she always says yes when leadership asks, she's just given space to say no when her vote isn't needed).

It just requires actually having the full debate time and not end running a potential filibuster with a cloture vote.

The media reports the initial ruling, the one opposing Trump. All the bloggers talk about it. Social media goes apeshit for a bit over it. The comments are filled with people bemoaning the fact that Trump hasn't executed all the judges.

Then, a couple months later, the ruling is overturned and only JackStraw and TJM notice.

Then, some other judge will issue and absurd ruling, or the original judge will change a word in the ruling and the whole thing starts again. And the two branches of government which could put an end to this - Congress and SCOTUS - permit it to continue because they are opposed to Trump as well.

Only we can fix this but, since fixing it will require time and pain, we won't. We, as a people, have become weak.

Scorsese has always had a relationship with the religion he was born into. He almost joined the seminary before he attended NYU for film.

He's lapsed, mostly stemming from a particular homily he heard near the beginning of the Vietnam War, but his upbringing never let him let it go completely. He struggles with it. He's said that the thinks he's going to Hell because of his relationship with women (he's been married five times, including to Isabella Rosselinni, though his current wife he's been with for about 20 years and they seem to have a very healthy relationship, she has very advanced Parkinson's, and he dotes on her).

Silence had been a passion project for decades. No one wanted to fund it until he had the indy success that was Wolf of Wall Street.

Essentially:

Leadership can do what it wants. That's the rules of the Senate.

Thune showed this last year during the OBBB's passage. The Parliamentarian ordered a bunch of stuff out of it. He pulled it out.

Then there was the amendment-a-rama. Some passed. Some failed. And then the final amendment came which hollowed out the bill completely and replaced the language with 99% of the original OBBB language, including 98% of the stuff the Parliamentarian had ordered struck. No Democrat objected, so the Parliamentarian couldn't do anything.

OBBB passed.

The cloture rule has been a crutch, an excuse to not do things in both directions for decades. However, it's really just an end run around a filibuster. An actual filibuster where people talk for hours. Just have full debate until every Senator has used their time. Then, no 60 vote barrier. Then only 50+1 vote for passage.

Speaking strictly from a political motive, if our economy continues to improve, whatever hit the GOP and Trump would take as a result of lost American lives, would be forgiven by November.
