Howdy Hordelings! Welcome to the Thursday night ONT. Content is here for the few of you who actually care. Gray boxes are here for regulars and any lurker(s) who get inspired to de-lurk. Which one are you?

Gold for the USA Women!

This is super kewl!

The US Men's team is in the semi-finals. Game is tomorrow at approximately 3pm Eastern time. I'll be watching! Will you?

Just another day on the Democrat plantation!

This video was reposted a jillion times* on X today. Check out Muva on X. She has more good videos posted recently. And she has taken quite a bit of predictable scorn for them.

Although I had to do a double-take when I saw her name. My brain automatically put an "l" in the middle.

Jaguar F-Type Crashes Into Florida School Bus, Winds Up Jammed Underneath

doof-jaguar-wedged.jpg

It's nothing short of a miracle that everyone managed to survive a terrifying crash this week between a Jaguar F-Type convertible and a school bus. According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, there were no students on the bus at the time of the crash. The bus driver suffered minor injuries, and the Jaguar driver was cited for following too closely.

The crash occurred on Wednesday, February 18th, at around 8:50 a.m. A bystander captured the incident on video, which the police shared on social media. As the Jaguar rapidly approaches, the stopped yellow conveyance you can hear someone on the video say, “He’s going to hit the bus.”

Not only did the low-slung sports car hit the bigger vehicle, but it became instantly wedged underneath it, with nearly the entire vehicle winding up beneath the school bus. There is no mention of any injuries to the Jaguar driver, so we have to assume they walked away unharmed. Which is remarkable when you review the video.

China Showcases ‘Kung Fu Robots’ at Spring Festival Gala. We May Be In Trouble

doof-kung-fu-robots.jpg

China’s annual Spring Festival Gala featured an eye-catching performance this year, with dancing humanoid kung fu robots taking the spotlight. The robots lunged, spun, backflipped, and even performed kung fu routines without falling. The show highlighted how far Chinese robotics companies have advanced, especially in developing what many online viewers quickly dubbed “kung fu robots.”

These kung fu robots were designed by several Chinese robotics firms and performed alongside human dancers. Compared to last year’s lunar new year broadcast, where robot movements were simpler—mostly walking, twisting, and basic kicks—this year’s machines showed more complex coordination and balance. Online clips of the performance spread quickly, drawing attention both inside and outside China.

Video segment at the link.

Obligatory "not related, yet somehow related"

Those of you who read my comments on daytime threads may know that I always struggle with the "X is the Y of Z's" things. It's the main source of me admitting to being obtuse. Well, I think I finally get it - thanks to this example featuring my lovely governor, Wes MooreMoron

I wish I could leave this once great state. Some day.

DJ Doof - This Date in Music History
from thisdayinmusic.com

1980, AC/DC’s frontman and lyricist, Bon Scott, died at the age of 33. One of the greatest vocalists in hard rock, Scott joined AC/DC in 1974, not long before the Australian band recorded their debut, High Voltage. Over the next six years, Scott would perform on seven albums with AC/DC, including their 1979 masterpiece, Highway to Hell.

1982, Ozzy Osbourne was arrested in San Antonio, Texas for urinating on the cenotaph at the Alamo, which honors the Alamo defenders. Osbourne was wearing a dress at the time of his arrest, (due to his wife Sharon hiding all his clothes so he couldn't go outside). Osbourne was banned from ever playing in San Antonio, Texas again, (a ban which was lifted in 1992).

2004, Johnny Cash's family blocked an attempt by advertisers to use his hit song 'Ring of Fire' to promote haemorrhoid-relief products. The idea is said to have been backed by Merle Kilgore, who co-wrote the song with Cash's wife, June Carter Cash. Cash's daughter Rosanne said the family "would never allow the song to be demeaned like that."

I think the proper method is to fly a twenty-dollar drone into the back of one of their heads.

This will make that robot think the one behind it sucker-punched it, causing it to retaliate, and will eventually lead to a giant robot brawl.

113 I have an idea for a new Winter Olympic sport. Polar Bear Tagging.

The idea is that you get 4 days in the wild to locate, track, tranquilizer, and put an ear tag on a polar bear. Scoring is based on elapsed time, with bonuses for shot distance, the size of the bear, and penalties for the number of tags already on the bear. Using bait, other than yourself, is prohibited.

Do you think that might be worth watching?

Should it be old school, and require killing the bear with stone spears? How many spears should be allowed?

And on Thursday, 1 October 1992, he kicked ass in what was my first concert.

147 President Trump posted the USA Women's Hockey medal ceremony, where they all sang the anthem. Good. Altho the focus was not just on the girl who got the winning goal, but the woman who got engaged to another female (bleah).

Mikaela Shiffrin took in the moment and sang the words when the flag was raised at her medal ceremony. Lovely.

I think we are one of very few countries anymore who know the words to our national anthem. People from other countries recognize it as well; and at a hockey game in Canada a year ago the mic went out on the singer and the Canadians sang with the Americans. That's wild!

I will be hoping and watching the USA Men. Because THEY are probably not ghey; and I will always remember the team in 1980.

Plus I simply love men more (and 'ette's and a few girlfriends, and one SIL). Plus my DIL's and granddaughters the best). Where was I?

Oh, I read this tonight to share of when the USA men beat Denmark. What they did after the game...that's the USA we're proud of.

I hope they win GOLD!They've already won hearts. XXXX

I'm still here and not being productive!

I loved Scrubs, ER, and some of House. HATED Grey's Anatomy because of the star, who looks like she washes her face with used kitty litter. I just don't like her at all and can't remember her name.

Will look for St. Denis Medical. I do get annoyed, and I am sure Nurse does as well, when I see IV sticks. With the method they use they'd go straight through the vein and into muscle. Which in today's medical world might be ok.

I learned to be a lab tech in college summer jobs in hospitals. A vampire waking patients at 0600 to drain them. Phlebotomy. I looked to be 16yrs old but at that hour no one questioned me.

Then worked in a blood bank, and those needles are the size of nails (don't look!).

So starting an IV or giving injections I nailed it in nursing school while others got the vapors. Give me any vein and I can start an IV and do it without pain, or that's what they told me.

If you are fortunate enough to get a manuscript accepted by a major house, please keep your politics to yourself. Connelly has bought the Left's interpretation of the PATRIOTS Act hook, line, and sinker. No librarian or bookseller worth their salt will allow any law enforcement agent to snoop into a patrons reading history. Just showing up and flashing a badge will get the LEO nowhere. As a result of Connelly pushing his beliefs in his books, I not only spined his books, I stopped recommending them. Of course, I was that rarest of all rare birds -- A conservative bookseller. The vast majority of booksellers are incredibly liberal.

"A car accident in Japan. A drowning in Seoul. A home invasion in Boston.Someone is killing the world’s leading experts on robotics and artificial intelligence. Is it a tech company trying to eliminate the competition or is it something even more sinister? After all, artificial intelligence may be the deadliest battlefield gamechanger since the creation of gunpowder."

Last night the memorial for Renee Good was set on fire and destroyed.
Renee’s family and the Minneapolis community deserve the chance to mourn her. This is unacceptable and we must hold anyone involved in this hateful incident accountable.

314 Change of pace today. Went over to friend's place, and helped him mess with a '49 Willys Jeepster that he dragged home. Engine had pieces off it, like water pump and hoses. Me: "maybe we should see if it will even turn over on the starter." Drag out a battery, hook it up. Step on starter, and it cranks vigorously. "Do you suppose it will run?" Me: "Well, we could check oil presure, and listen for any bad knocks from the bottom end." Cranked it some more, and electric oil pressure gauge in dash did not move. I went and got a spare Studebaker mechanical oil pressure gauge, and short hose, and we managed to get it screwed into the block where the old sender was. Poured some gas in the carb, stepped on the starter, and zoom-zzoom! It ran smooth and quiet, and gauge read 60 PSI. I think this puppy will be a keeper.

There are relatively few definitive European brands of anything. Europe basically gave up on life after WW1 and accelerated that after WW2 so they missed the computer, internet, and now AI revolutions.

That all said, I remember back in the 80s there was a column, possibly Dave Barry, where he noted that within a month in the UK 3 different men had gotten their dick stuck in Hoover vacuum cleaners.

363 Hey fellow hordlings and all others who may read these comments, please accept the following thoughts on the upcoming mid-term elections and MAGA prospects in general. I have been thinking about this for a while and have the following suggestions for Trump and MAGA Republicans (It’s in parts – so bear with me):

1. Pivot away from world events/peacemaking and focus on one thing, and one thing only: JOBS, J-O-B-S and more jobs. And not just industrial, manufacturing jobs, but white-collar job creation particularly opportunities for recent college grads. These recent grads were sold a false bill-of-goods on the value of a degree and are now feeling lost and without any substantive opportunities to contribute to society and make a living. They don’t have hard skills like HVAC, electricians, plumbers etc., and need direction. If the sane, right side of the political aisle (or the MAGA movement as I like to call it) can capture this cohort, then the leftist social democrats are going to be very screwed, for a very long time

Posted by: Publius Redux at February 20, 2026 12:27 AM (Gu66x)

364 2. In addition to the above, and in keeping with the recent college grads being a partially lost generation, I would propose that Trump and MAGA rip a page out of the left’s playbook and bring back a grand, large and federal program to give these people the opportunity to have a purpose, be productive and helpful to society: Revive the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and open it up primarily (or give priority to) to recent college grads. I know, I know, it was warmed over socialism from the New Deal but think about it. If Trump did this and engaged this lost younger generation in working on large conservation projects, tree planting (it fights carbon emissions!), national park improvement, drainage projects, etc., you would empower them, include them in society and give them an opportunity to serv the common good. You would also gain their votes, hands down. We sure waste government money on a lot worse things don’t we? And it would have the added benefit of forcing Democrats to argue against FDR’s signature program and be painted as taking jobs away from young college graduates; winning!

367 3. Coalesce on a few simple themes for all Republicans to use in the mid-term elections they are as follows:
a. The Trump is economy is strong, focused on jobs and growing:
b. The stock market is at an all-time high, meaning your retirement investments are safer
c. Trump has stabilized inflation. He actually brought down the price of important times, like gas/energy (except in non-blue States like CA)! With more relief on the way!
d. Trump and MAGA controlling Congress means ensuring border security and deporting criminal illegal aliens (never, ever, use the made-up term “undocumented migrant” or even “illegal immigrant” you are ceding the language to the socialist left). Since Trump has focused, initially, on dangerously criminal illegal aliens, this mean:
e. Trump and MAGA brought safer cities and less crime.
f. Long term there are more jobs and salary growth for American Citizens and
g. decreased prices for housing/rents.
h. Democrats are liars and lie about all of the above and Trump, 24-7.
i. They do this to distract from the destruction they caused under Biden and lie about blue city unrest and domestic terrorism which they create and support

Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at February 20, 2026 12:29 AM (1whRW)

369 4. The catch phrases for the mid-terms should be:
a. Trump and MAGA means a bright future, that is safer, more economical, with opportunity, family and growth for American citizen and LEGAL immigrants; and
b. “Democrats, stop lying about the Trump miracle economy and recovery, stop supporting and engaging in domestic terrorism, start supporting secure elections with the SAVE Act and require ID Proof of citizenship to vote in elections!”
5. A mid-term convention must be done, and done in a slick way to command the airwaves with direct messaging by Trump and MAGA Republicans so the MsM is unable to filter (read censor) it

Anyway – that’s all for now – I know folks from the Trump White House read this site as do other advisors in the Republican National Party – I hope this humble opinion helps someone.

390 I'm still amazed that the Andrew formerly known as Prince was actually arrested -- for misconduct in public office.

The gossipy UK podcasts are focussing relentlessly on the sex angle, but the slipping state secrets to Epstein for use in insider trading would seem to rise to the level of treason.

And now it's come out that King Chuckles paid off Virginia Giuffre for Andrew, so he may be pressured to abdicate? The Palace seems to be trying to put the blame on the dead queen for the payoff. What a mess.

I'm not anti-monarchist (for other countries, don't want one here), mainly because I'm crazy about the clothes and the jewels, but this is a hot mess.

Oh, and the vile and loathesome Gordon Brown, who with Tony fucking Blair has helped destroy Great Britain, has now piled on, pretending he has ethical issues with Andrew's behavior. How nauseating of him.

410 I'll be that guy: I think sushi grade raw tuna in oatmeal would probably be good. I say this because of a dish called yamakaki (sp?): raw tuna in grated mountain potato (which basically liquefies into a gruel-like consistency) with various add-ons (green onion, some soy sauce or ponzu).

411 'Night, Debby.

I'm ready to clock out too, so tired.

G'night, Horde! Catch ya all next time...

412 407 Any job should at least give enough of a raise to off set inflation. Otherwise you will be working for less take home pay than you got the year before.

My wife hasn't gotten a single raise since she started at her practice (biggest healthcare system in the state) in 2015.

She even stopped getting bonuses.

We need to get the hell out of New England.

OK, has she said anything? I once thought my outstanding work would be enough to get me recognized.

It is not. They WILL take advantage of you, if you don't stick up for yerself.

Posted by: Romeo13 at February 20, 2026 01:32 AM (mP0Kj)

414 Yes she has.

No avail. The healthcare system claims that they're still recovering from COVID.

She did get an additional stipend but that came with additional work/responsibilities so it wasn't just a cost of living raise.

415 Very emotional day. Won a tentative ruling on a motion I was expecting to lose. Hearing is tomorrow at 10:15 a.m. and as soon as it's over, if I-80 to Reno is open, I'm going. Maceo is dying and I hope I'll be able to see him one last time (I saw him last May). He's such a sweet and loving little guy, and we don't want him to suffer.

Don't worry too much about fitting in. Some of us agree with Groucho Marx, that they don't want to join a club that would have them as a member.

If I had the time.... (Of course, it would also depend on what you have to smoke....) I haven't had any of my stuff in a month and a half. Working every day. Just no time.

Posted by: Dark Litigator at February 20, 2026 02:24 AM (KAi1n)

425 My stuff is stuff. The roads here are messed up pretty bad anyway. Not worth the risk.

426 Poor little Maceo.
Posted by: Blonde Morticia

He had almost 6 great years with his mama. They were so close. He would smoosh his face against hers. He would let her clean out his eye junk while cradling him. He would walk up to me and go like "high five" which meant "pet me". :-> Mama's gonna be devastated when he goes. But he's always hated taking medicine so even if we'd caught it earlier, it just would've caused a rift.

Posted by: Dark Litigator at February 20, 2026 02:28 AM (KAi1n)

427 Weather's dry for several days so as long as there's enough chain traffic, it'll eventually open up. I just hope it does tomorrow around noon.

No, my mom (age 90) lives in NoVa. My ex-gf, with whom I'm on good terms, lives in Reno. She's Maceo's mama. She adopted him as a cancer-survivor rescue and he did so well. Until last week or so.

Go. Just go. You can work anywhere. Just leave.

Life is too short for your job to suck.

Hell, DH moved to Alaska with me. He could have stayed in WI and worked on cool stuff like the new basketball arena in Milwaukee, but he came up here because it's better.

Just go.
