Battle of the Oranges Cafe

ivreaitaly.jpg
Ivrea, northern Italy

In Ivrea, Italy, the end of a Carnevale is marked with a good old-fashioned orange fight. Now I've been in my fair share of orange fights, but I gotta say, this town takes its orange fights seriously.

When they're not beaning each other in the faces with oranges, Ivrea seems like a nice town.

Catjitsu.

Cruising.

Excited penguin.

The new Winter Olympics sport coming in 2030.

POV: Mouse.

An RC car at a dog park turns it into a dog track.

Dog plays fetch with himself and a table.

Too many balls! More than two is overkill, really.

Hide and seek.

Cockatoo has become a guard dog.

Porcupine picnic.

They import over one million pounds of oranges for the annual Battle of the Oranges.

POV: dog food.

13 The Penguin races are awesome. But, everyone knows they only go to those things to see them crash.

We used to race cochroaches in the bathtub at college. We used White Out to put little numbers on their backs. And, if yours wasn't performing up to specifications, you could probably find another contestent in about five minutes by looking in the kitchen cabinets.

32 As usual, the cafe is Haram.

One thing hit me, after one of today's threads got nooded. It was about the spelling "koran" instead of "quran".

The name of the prophet has gone through many changes. When I was young, he was "Mohammed". Now, it's usually "Muhammed." Of course, they do this only to be pests. Well, back in the day, they did the same changing the then-standard "Mahomet" to "Mohammed". Chesterton would have none of it, and fought his editors. He ended it by writing them "If you insist on 'Mohammed' I am perfectly capable of insisting on 'Mahound'".

GKC won. Ever since reading that, I've tried to use older spellings. (And I won't call the gulf state "Gutter". NFW.)

58 Over the last year or so, I have noticed thst cashiers at truck stops have changed their traditional send off at the end of a transaction. Now, instead of the tradional "Thank you, have a nice day," or, "Thanks, please come again," they are telling us, "Safe travels."

I, for one, find this to be an improvement. "Safe travels" is now my second favorite valediction, right after, "Have a blessed day," because any phrase that invokes the almighty to look after you has to be the favorite, but a personal concern for a truckers welfare on the road is rather nice.

143 I grew up in a subdivision in Phoenix that had been built in old citrus groves - we all had 3 or 4 grapefruit trees in our yards, some had 5 or 6. They were very productive, and often they would just fall on the ground and rot (these were the great big bright yellow variety). I mean we all ate them for breakfast most every day when they ripe, but 4 or 5 trees will produce a couple of hundred grapefruit, and you just can’t eat that many. So me and my friends would have wars with them.

When you were choosing your weapon, you didn’t want a fresh one - no you wanted the ones that had been on the ground for about a week.
The supreme triumph was to hide around the corner til one of your buddies stepped out, and then hit him with a great big one on the side of the head and cover him with rotten sticky grapefruit juice when it exploded. Man those were some good times!

149 I've been hit with a lot of plant based projectiles now that I think about it. That came from a black walnut tree, got hit with a lot of those. Also crab apples, little golf ball sized plinkers. And hedge apple wars of course. A few pine cones.

I guess living in Kansas, which has approximately a dozen trees total throughout the entire state, we just just kind of all share those same 12 trees, I was lucky because I still got hit a lot.

Imagine how bad it would be if I grew up around trees.

OK, I know how to do this. You take 120 and divide by, no, um, first you subtract 40 from 60 then multiply by 120 and, um, this is not what I prepped for today! Which is the downside of the US acting like a bully, especially north of the International Date Line, like in Greenland! And that math is raycissss!

She’s a lesbian head case, claiming that the alphabet people have it so rough in the USA and she was going to use her Olympic platform to bring attention to it. Then claiming she was getting death threats. Maybe she should have stayed off social media and put her pea brain into focusing on the Olympics. She’s currently in 13th.
