Howdy Hordelings! Welcome to the Tuesday ONT. What awaits you on this mid-winter night? Glad you asked! Step on in and see for yourself...

5 years ago today, we lost a one-of-a kind legend.

doof-elrushbo-2026-1.jpg

Rush Limbaugh will ALWAYS be the voice of conservatism. I first heard him in 1991 at the recommendation of a good friend. I was immediately hooked, and I listened to his radio program or read his website nearly every day for more than 25 years. I imagine many of you have a similar history with the man behind the golden EIB microphone. On the anniversary of his passing, let's enjoy just a few examples of his greatness.

Rush explains liberalism (August 2013)

Rush explains the Trump phenomenon (Oct 2018 )

Take in the first 20 seconds of this video especially. Two legends of conservativism - both sorely missed.

Let's also revisit this spectacularly titled opinion article from Erick Erickson which was published the day after Rush passed away.

Talent Returned To God

My mother insisted that my dad and I take a college road trip together when I was in 11th grade. I got to drive. My dad got to control the radio. We opted for backroads and scenery instead of speed and the interstate. Driving through rural Alabama on the way to my eventual alma mater, Mercer University, in Macon, Georgia, my dad went in search of radio legend Paul Harvey.

Instead, he stumbled upon a voice claiming to have talent on loan from God. My dad and I may not have had a super close relationship at the time, but together we found Rush Limbaugh and could connect with each other through listening to Rush.

Years later, I helped start the website RedState and randomly sent a note through the comment line at Rush's website. I not only got back a reply, but it was from Rush himself. I could not believe he knew who I was. Thus began a correspondence, which led to a friendship, which led to a mentorship.

The first time I ever remember my dad telling me he was proud of me was the day Rush Limbaugh referred to me on air as his friend. My dad nearly ran off the road and immediately called me with fatherly pride. After years of running RedState and being on television, my parents finally decided I would be okay in my career choices after Rush designated me one of his guest hosts.

Definitely check out the whole thing.

Turns out, not EVERYTHING is bigger In Texas

The World’s Smallest Skyscraper Is the Result of a Massive Scam

smallest-skyscraper2.jpg

At just 40 feet tall, the Newby-McMahon Building in Wichita Falls isn’t very impressive, even when compared to regular-sized buildings, let alone skyscrapers. And yet it was supposed to be one of the most imposing skyscrapers of its time when it was designed in the early 1900s.

The nickname ‘World’s Littlest Skyscraper’ is a dubious title to have, but the Newby-McMahon Building is indeed dwarfed by every skyscraper in the world. It isn’t remotely worthy of being called a skyscraper, as it’s dwarfed by several normal buildings in Wichita Falls, but the story of how it came to be is truly fascinating.

The origins of the Newby-McMahon Building can be traced back to the early 1900s, when the North Texas city of Wichita Falls became the center of a regional oil boom. The discovery of black gold in nearby Burkburnett turned hundreds of locals into millionaires, as mineral rights were negotiated virtually everywhere, from street corners to temporary tents.

Philadelphia oil man J.D.D. McMahon was the first to notice the city’s dire need for office space and quickly proposed a solution – building an imposing skyscraper right next to the original Newby Building, built by Augustus Newby in 1906. His blueprints caught the eye of several investors, and he was able to raise about $200,000 (about $6.8 million in today’s money).

McMahon promised a multistory office building that would be built just across the street from the St. James Hotel, but what he failed to mention was that it wouldn’t go up very much. Exctatic investors didn’t notice that the building’s scale was measured in inches rather than feet, and, by the time they realized they had been scammed, it was too late.

Check out the whole thing. Video segment at the link.

Yes, Presidents' Day was yesterday - but this cool bit of trivia hit my feed this morning. From Kevin O'Neill on X

RIP to my favorite Presidents Day fun fact.

John Tyler, our 10th president, had a grandson alive until last May.

John had a son while in his 60s.
That son had a kid while in his 70s.
And that kid, Harrison Tyler, passed away last year at age 96.

So… New fun fact:
John was born during Washington administration. So 3 generations of Tylers span EVERY PRESIDENCY IN AMERICAN HISTORY.

That's a pretty random but interesting tidbit!

But wait - there's more! Check out this very Horde-worthy comment to the post

Correction: Steven Tyler was John Tyler's father. 'Dream On' was almost our national anthem. And 'Love in an Elevator' was written by Otis Redding, two years after he founded the Otis Elevator Company.

Look it up.

Had a good day today. Got a haircut for the first time since pre-COVID; cut off a good ten inches of hair. I got tired of the ponytail. Then I went to a local diner/ice cream place for lunch. On your birthday (with proof, LOL!), you get a free sundae (pistachio with hot fudge). That was desert. They even sang 'Happy Birthday'. Not a bad day for a big day, a day I never thought I'd ever see, my 70th.

48 I remember well the day Rush went national August 1, 1988. I had been listening to Bob Grant in NY for years. I was still living and working in NYC then. Bob Grant seemed very jealous this young upstart was going national, as I'm sure Grant always wanted to. Grant was on 3-6 PM and I listened to him on a Walkman while commuting home. I started carrying a little radio to hear Rush at work when possible. I was in the Carpenters Union then. Grant, Like Rush, started out in California in the mid 60s. He moved to NYC and had a legendary feud with Alex Bennett, a cool hippie who had a radio show in NY then. Bennett later moved to SF.

50 My favorite Rush Limbaugh "lesson" was when he went off on "special" tax proposals. The one he commented on was a proposal by some entity for a sales tax for an additional penny for the police and fire departments.

HE WENT OFF ON IT. He (correctly) pointed out the FIRST duty of government was public safety. Therefore funding for police and fire departments should be solved FIRST, and then everything else figured out afterwards. The younger me (this was during the middle '90s) really appreciated this ranking of government priorities. Even conservatives need to be reminded that these kind of proposals are gimmicks--other leftist bullshit has already been approved and yet we're asking taxpayers the equivalent of "Would you all pay more sales tax if we kept you...safe?".

52 The thing about Rush for us was, we don't listen to the radio except when we're in the car. And whenever I'd tune in Limbaugh, he was either going into a commercial break, touting something, or otherwise filling time without his actual commentary. We'd pull into our driveway just as he'd come back from commercials.

Disappointing. That was why I quit trying to listen to Mark Levin, too.

The benefit to podcasts is that a lot of them (not all by a long chalk) don't do commercials, or if they do they are at the beginning and end - and I download them to listen while driving so I can pick up and drag the USB into the house.

81 Doof, Good "Call" on the hidden video. I bought "Into the Woods" on vinyl when it was released (not because vinyl captures the nuances in the music we have lost in the digital age, but because I'm old). There are no stinkers on that album either, which is good, since it is a pain in the ass to get out of your chair, and skip to the next track with vinyl. Yup, you couldn't just press a button on some fancy remote. No sir. You had to lift the needle, and try to delicately drop it on the next track, or you would irreparably damage both the needle and the album. Every time you played it in the future, you would be reminded that you gashed the damn thing by the skip or a pop. Anyway, good song Doof.

Why? at long last we get to see how far politico's will go to protect one of their own.

Why haven't all the doc's been released? if they were, consider well both Clinton's would know precisely what not to recall -- which is precisely why both want it televised, which makes it that much more difficult to parallel construct a conviction of implications and perjury upon them... They're cooked, and so is Brennan and his dancing undead.

All things open to question are precisely why Epstein chose to prominently display a life sized portrait of Bill Clinton in a blue dress pointing an accusing finger at the viewer.

"I am not a great man, I am a failure – and you have made me one." -- Clinton'01

If a President of the United States ever lied to the American people, he should resign. -- Clinton'98

It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is. Clinton'98

“the people in charge are lying to the public and telling them not to believe what we’ve seen with our own eyes.” Clinton 01/26/26

"We'll actually have to work very hard to kill as many people in the 21st century. What's the difference? This time, you think the victim could be you," Clinton'07

Why else she shear insolence of him forcing us to deny Kathleen Willey, Lewinsky and the many others he diddled with on the nations time and clock? he could for you to watch, and the libs to actively defend the indefensible -- which has reduced them to what they are today.

What was is she is on record of that "What difference does it make, they're Dead!"

Just like Bill telling the parents of BlackHawk Down in the WH -- "It's their own fault that they were dead"

The fact is, Les Aspen went out of his way to deny the armored support that the crew requested, refused to acknowledge that the expected warlords were speaking arabic rather than Somali -- because it was OBL's organization and trial ballon.

That Bill simply couldn't bring himself to order the kill shot on OBL because he couldn't find any reason to tear his attention away from the super bowl.

150 I have a bit of a different value for Rush Limbaugh besides his common Conservative bona fides. I used him as a dating tool. If I invited a girl to grab lunch during the work day, I'd pick them up with The Rush Limbaugh Show playing on the car radio. I could usually figure out if I was wasting my time on the lunch date within a few minutes based on whether this solicited any comments.

Negative and ad hominen criticism: Hasta la Visa
Positive comments/ recognition: Front of the line
Curious who the guy is: More research required

It worked, btw. Better half even reads John Derbyshire and thinks he pulls his punches.

158 Stevie Nick's voice? ...Is that how she always sounds???
Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division
----
Ok, I won't wade into the "is that how she always sounds?" discussion because I LOVE everything that Fleetwood Mac did when Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie joined the band. That was amazing material, and they earned eternal respect for that.
What I WILL provide is this update on Stevie's live solo shows.

If your girlfriend or wife wants to go, take her. But just know going in that her range has deteriorated, and her back-up singers now hit the high notes for her. And her band is "professionally generic". What I mean by that is that they play all of the right notes, but their "tone" is off...often. They "overdrive" sections of songs that should sound acoustic...a lot.

Lindsey Buckingham didn't do that. Because he is an amazing guitarist that knows how to do stuff that sounds over-driven and he also knows how to play clean.

But Stevie apparently *hates* Lindsey, because of all of the 100 or more (not kidding here) visuals that show up behind her in her concert, there were a dozen of Tom Petty, a half dozen of Christine McVie, a half dozen of Joe Walsh...and ONE of Lindsey.

Used to throw my oldest in his car seat in the front seat of my 1984 Bl*zer (the back seat was too far away) and we’d listen to Rush and drive out to the coast and play in the ocean. He loved the opening music and danced in his seat and we enjoyed the drive and listened and rocked out.

Look we all have pet peeves. Issues we have strong feeling about. Often people discuss them here. However, on a handful of subjects, man, it feels like it is less a discussion with you and more an exercise in denial and contradiction. We get it: you don't like Catholicism. You don't like Fantasy literature. You see no value in these things. Your opinion has been fucking logged.

This gets tedious. It kind of annoys people. Yes, we Catholics (of which I am a very bad example) are about to embark on one of our biggest rituals of self denial and trying to become closer to God. Many times when it came out in the theater, and a shit ton since. It made me a gear head years before I could drive, and I'm still gonna get a '32 coupe or a frigging '55 chevy before I leave this miserable planet.

If you don't know, the 55 in Graffiti and in Two Lane Blacktop is the same car. Graffiti is by far the better movie, but the 55 is much better in Two Lane. Has been my single favorite car of all time for the last 50 years lol

BUT Obama was far worse than Carter in every way.
Not really surprising that he won the first go around as he was objectively popular, three tours of (R) tires the LIV, but, his first tour was a total shit show. Not average. Not meh. Total shit show.

And his reelection had verifiable massive vote/election fraud going on. Philly alone had multiple precincts with over 100% registered voter turnout, 100% Obama, and/or 0% Romney (with stray third party votes). From a quality assurance perspective this is just that guy writing down whatever vote totals for the precinct with whatever the hell they feel like.

364 There's a great scene (an almost insignificant one, plotwise) in The Wire, where Marlo Stanfield steals a lollipop from the bodega, and the security guard confronts him outside about his gang activity, and how he sees through him, and just wants him to at least quit being so brazen about it. Just an honest man telling a crook to quit rubbing it in everyone's faces.

Marlo replies "You want it to be one way."

SG: "What?"

Marlo: "You want it to be one way."

SG: "What's that supposed to mean?"

Marlo: "You want it to be one way."

SG: "Stop saying that!"

Marlo: "But it's the other way."

Marlo then jumps in his Escalade and speeds off, and in a later episode, has the security guard murdered for daring to mouth off to him that day.

This is how the American political system works and the Republican Marlos are no different than the Democrat ones.

368 Back in the days when I thought I was smarter than I actually was, I held the RC church in contempt. Then my sainted mother, a very strong Christian, became a member of a Catholic church. I couldn't believe it. I sat down with her and dished out a good rant. She listened, like she always did and then asked me a couple questions. Are there Bibles in Catholic churches? Yes mom. So the Word of God is present. Yes mom. If the Word of God is present, is the Holy Spirit present? Yes mom. So do you think God has a handle on things? Yes mom. She joined that church because she love the liturgy, the beauty, the Priest was an amazing teacher and that church had the only draf service in Spokane. My younger brother is deaf. I still have issues with the RC church. They aren't the only one though. The morons here who identify as Catholics come across no differently than myself. They love our Lord Jesus and they struggle daily to live up to His unconditional love. Disagreement is fine, but leave it at that. This isn't the forum for anything beyond that.

I don't think thoise links work unless you are logged into Twatter.

384 LOL, AOP, that was funny!

Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at February 18, 2026 01:07 AM (0nHVk)

385 OK, tried to track the links down and it doesn't work for me either. Twice week before last he, Tony Seruga, presented something as current that was two years old.

It's the only place I've found that has a variety of maritime information. I'll avoid linking in the future.

386 Yep. "Deep Dive" does not appear at all for me, and "Declassified Truth" takes me to a twatter log-in page.

387 Met a neighbor today. He lives about 3 miles down the road. I had headed across the road for a couple hundred rounds of stress relief. He pulled in right behind me. Said he was looking for a good place to shoot. I told him I had a range up the hill and he could join me. He hadn't brought any gear except his pistol but I told him I had spare protective gear. I put up 2 homemade silhouette targets. The first one was named Sid, the other Roberta. They both had the Antifa logo as the center mass target. He was laughing his rear end off. He said this was new favorite place to shoot. We had a blast.

388 The warhead for the Davy Crockett mini-nuke was about the size and shape of a 20-pound propane cylinder. So a little plump for a suitcase. Would go in a Hockey bag OK.

390 The nuke we could shoot out of our M110 howitzer was like 278 pounds. 8 inches in diameter. Hardly a real PIA to move but far short of a suitcase. Unless you didn't need to shoot it out of a canon.

391 I will say one thing about a patriotic talking horse introducing history to elementary school children. At least it is a small candle in the dark to counteract the overwhelming abundance of anti-USA, anti-parent, anti-God and pro-sexual perversion books which fill elementary school libraries now.

Rush really twisted some panties with his coinage of the femi-Nazi. That touched a nerve with large swaths of America, so many people knew such a person. The precursor to Pink pussy hats, Karen's and now AWFLS.

I loved the movie American Graffiti too, and obviously I am not a mechanic, I just enjoyed that little slice of Americana.

In recent weeks, Anthropic approached 1789 Capital, the firm where President Trump’s son is a partner, about investing in its latest round. 1789 declined for ideological reasons.

The latest on the escalating tensions between Anthropic and the Trump Administration, ...

398 Feller, can't you tell you are deemed not just wrong, but so out of sync with the right thinkers here that you're basically trollishly cancelworthy? Now, get with the majority opinion or STFU & STFD or get off the line and go somewhere your opinions won't give others the bad feels. Do it now. Your betters have ruled.
