The Morning Rant

punk-monkey.jpg

The most aggressively anti-American group in our country is academia. The sordid and tedious litany of hatred of traditional American culture in those hallowed halls is well documented. The obsessive pushing of the Marxist dialectic in all subjects, no matter how ridiculously tangential it might be is also documented. Racial and ethnic division as a tool to remake America? It has a home in our universities. The blurring of simple biological sex into a malaise of insane and incomprehensible "genders" and lunatic behaviors is accepted as normal by a shocking number of supposedly well-educated academics, and of course their mush-brained young students.

But their fanatical desire to sell our intellectual wealth to the highest bidder, especially if it is an enemy of America might be the worst thing they do!

The Seven Sons of China are Stealing our Stuff...and the academic establishment is fine with it...

If you have been to a major top-shelf university or research institution’s graduation ceremony in the last two decades, one thing that dramatically stands out is how many People’s Republic of China (PRC) nationals are receiving not just undergraduate degrees, but master’s degrees and PhDs in the most highly skilled STEM fields from biostatistics to quantum physics. From aerospace engineering to industrial design—PRC nationals are overrepresented to an outlandish degree.

Don’t forget, these are the places basic research starts, where the future technology is developed. This is also a zero-sum game with a finite number of positions. For each PRC national who is getting a PhD in a STEM field, that is one American who is not. They either don’t go, or have to find a lower-tier university to go to.

And sadly, our own government subsidizes this fifth column in the midst of our technological research!

Read the whole thing...CDR Salamander is always worth a read, and this essay is particularly on point.

America First must be all-encompassing, and must enter every facet of our society to be effective. Obviously our universities are savagely anti-American, but the fact that they are also pro-China should be a bridge too far. That China is assiduously working to further its own interests is normal. That America has so far not done anything like what the Chinese are doing is a sad commentary on how deeply the academic attitude of "America Last" has penetrated into our entire research effort.

The fix is simple: reserve 90% of all publicly funded academics for American citizens. Will we lose some bright foreign students? Absolutely. But the net benefit will dwarf what we are currently losing to the rest of the world.

The original idea was that we would be educating the B and B from around the world, and that exposure to America would ensure they'd be friendly to us as they moved into the higher echelons of government back home. Obviously, if the university tells them nothing but "America sux" that will have an impact.

Condola Rashad [Phylicia Rashad's daughter]stars in St. Joan on Broadway and tells NPR's Scott Simon that Joan of Arc will always be fascinating as a woman who did what she believed and led thousands of soldiers to victory. . .

That's Condola Rashad as The Maid of Orleans, who was burned as a witch but became a saint. The Manhattan Theatre Club production has opened at the Samuel Friedman Theatre. It's directed by Daniel Sullivan. Condola Rashad has been nominated for four Tony Awards, including this year for "St. Joan."

They were taught that (1) everything wrong in the world is because of Western Civilzation (broadly) or the United States (specifically) and (2) that every culture is better than Western culture.

Somewhat related: Local botanic garden has an orchid show ever winter. It is fabulous, so many colors and varieties. They hype it, do plant sales, photography contest; it's a big event. Change in leadership at the botanic garden in the past year. Orchid show was crap, mostly the varieties you see at the local grocery store, didn't fill half the planters, no photo contest, less hype. But, hey, look at their big celebration of the Chinese new year and Chinese craft market right next to the pathetic orchid show! Priorities changed, bigly.

82 Any discussion of China and the future has to include the fact that the country's self-reported replacement birth rate is just over 1.

There are large portions of the country (think Beijing) where it's just under one, at 0.9.

But, reported births at Chinese hospitals show only 15 million kids under 2 right now. Out of a country supposedly with 1.4 billion.

The population collapse started a couple of decades ago. They're just in the middle of it.

Hard to project power when most of your population is old like that.

Even if the ChiComs allowed Western firms proper access to the Chinese market, that market isn't nearly as large as Western "elites" from Hahvahd think it is. It's about 400M or so people on the Eastern coast of China, if that. 137 Tiny quibble, that may not actually be correct:

It's probably not really "zero-sum". The PRC grad students who come in occupy a position that was created by a grant (NSF, DOE, NRL/ARL, whoever) to the university and, given how The World seems to work these days, it's a safe assumption that if that post weren't designed to be given to a Chinese national with the bill footed in part or in full by the PRC itself in the first place, then that position simply would not exist because the grant would not exist. They're here because the people who got them here got paid, one way or another, to get them here.

Put me down for the murderer of Natalie Wood, Robert Wagner.

[I listened to an audiobook of Rob Lowe's autobiography -- he became more conservative with age -- and he tells a funny story where he's at some large Hollyweird get-together and sitting at a table are Robert Wagner, Cary Grant, and Prince Rainier III of Monaco. Wagner waves him over and invites him to join them.

Awkward. After he gets up to leave, he hears Wagner turn to the other two and say something like "Gentlemen, you DO realize that that young man has likely slept with each of our daughters?"]

Tarantino has openly acknowleged that he stole a bunch of shit from Kubrick, even though his films don't end up being noticeably Kubrickian.

Well yes, but they also sell all over the world. Buyers literally have to do genetic testing to find out what a fish actually is, since they just lie. And there are expenses in fish farms, where they either have to use enough space for the fish to be healthy naturally (costs money) or load them up with antibiotics so they don't die from each other's poop (less expensive, but can get them banned from a market if detected). But if you buy caught fish from them, then you're contributing to the collapse of fisheries worldwide.

Years ago, I was in a class with a guy who had been in the Coast Guard, and one of their standard, ongoing functions was protecting Alaska's fisheries from Russian factory ships. Now it's the Chinese overfishing other people's waters, and they're everywhere.

219 >>Interstellar is a borderline explicit response to 2001, Nolan's favorite movie. There Will be Blood is an outright Kubrick homage.

Interstellar was not dry enough to be Kubrickian, and There Will Be Blood was too straight ahead to be Kubrickian.

All Kubrick films have an underlying skeeviness and nihilism to them.

Posted by: Thomas Bender

It's almost easier to look for places Kubrick didn't have influence. When anime is blatantly referencing Apocalypse Now you know what's up.

>>And there we have it.

The essential element when I watch any Kubrick film is that I do not want to continue watching this film, I have pretty much seen every Kubrick film in a theater setting and have had to push through and not walk out.

As I have noted before, If after watching many Kubrick films, if you have any desire to watch them again, there is something profoundly wrong with that person.

There are exceptions and I listed them up thread.

Bottom line, Kubrick is probably my least favorite director.

237 My brother is a yuge Kubrick fan. Barry Lyndon is one of his fav movies. I thought BL was boring as watching paint dry. Very expertly crafted paint, but drying paint nonetheless. I had a hard time getting through it. Which is what I say about most Kubrick movies. Very expertly crafted, yes. But hard to sit through.

A lot of trannies are still fundamentally heterosexual with functioning dicks.

That's why they want to be in women's locker rooms.
