The Classical Saturday Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

IMG_3542.JPG

*****

Good morning boys and girls and everything in between. Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few house keeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in sanctuary blue cities.)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.
2) Be kind. Be nice. Be exceptional, don't be Pretti Good.
3) Running with sharp objects? You have to be kidding us, amirite?
4) Say an extra pray or two for our country and the people attempting to right the ship.
5) Have a great weekend!

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

12/20 – Morgan, longtime lurker, takes tango lessons from Sebastian, whose son, Matias, is recovering from brain surgery. The MRI was read on 12/19, and the surgeons did not remove the entire tumor. Even though the biopsy indicated the tumor was benign, the boy is probably facing several rounds of chemo. Please pray for the boy’s continued recovery in El Salvador.
1/10 Update – Matias will have surgery in 2 weeks to try and remove the rest of the tumor, and then he will receive radiation therapy.
2/7 Update – Matias came through the second surgery, and was waiting for another MRI before he can start radiation. He has lost weight due to constant vomiting and didn’t sleep for 4 days, but he is sleeping better now and is able to keep food down. He and his parents are really struggling, though.

12/27 – Buzzion asked for prayers for a friend named Christina. Christina has struggled with a lot, including addiction and relapse. Buzzion has not heard from Christina in a while and hopes she is okay. Please pray that Christina finds her way and knows that people love and care for her and believe in her.
1/3 Update – Christina was arrested on 1/3. Please pray for this to be a final wake-up call for her.
1/22 Update – Christina was released from jail and is staying with Buzzion. She is working through the legal troubles and she is continuing her recovery. She really appreciates the prayers, as does Buzzion.

12/27 – BlackOrchid requested prayers for a Navy Veteran uncle who has been struggling with his health the last few weeks. The root cause is undetermined, but recurrent infection/sepsis keeps sending him back to the hospital. It seems to be worsening his dementia, which makes it harder for BlackOrchid’s aunt to handle him.
1/3 Update – BlackOrchid’s uncle (her “stand-in dad” is still not doing well. He will probably need to be put in a LTC facility although they are doing everything possible to avoid this. He is 86, and at the stage where his immune system can’t fight back well.
1/24 Update – BlackOrchid’s uncle is doing much better. He is carting around an O2 canister to help him, but otherwise is doing well.

1/6 – Diogenes requested prayers for his best friend since college, who was diagnosed with cancer. Within hours or hearing this, the friend’s son, a man that Diogenes has known since he was a baby, collapsed from what appears to be a brain tumor. The prognosis isn’t hopeful. Please pray for both of these fine men.
1/23 Update – Diogenes’ best friend’s son Sean had emergency brain surgery. The labs are back and it’s not good news. He has stage 4 brain cancer. They were scheduled to meet with an oncologist on 1/26 to determine the best pathway ahead for the time he has remaining. This is just crushing news. Thanks to all the Horde for their prayers and support for this fine young man.
2/11 Update – Sean has not started brain cancer treatments yet. There are still some issues to work out. But he had more bad news when his wife’s sister was hit by a truck on 2/10 and is in critical condition (broken back, severe concussion, bleeding on the brain). Diogenes asks for anyone in the Horde to speak up if they know of any support groups for people in Sean’s situation. Thanks in advance.

1/8 - Doof asked for prayers for his mother. She was hit hard by the flu. She couldn’t get out of bed the morning of 1/8 and was sent by ambulance to the hospital. She is alert and communicating but prayers are appreciated for her recovery. Prayers are also appreciated for Doof, as he absolutely despises hospitals.
1/23 Update – Mom was in the hospital for 5 nights and has been in a rehabilitation center since 1/13. Her recovery is slow but steady. Her breathing and mobility are still not back to normal. She is in good spirits but wants to be home. They very much appreciate the continued prayers.

1/10 – LA Sue asked for prayers for her brother, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September. They just learned it moved from stage 2 to stage 4. The chemo treatments and side infections from surgery have so debilitated him that he is considering stopping. Please pray for strength and that he opens his heart to God.
1/18 Update – LA Sue is taking her brother to hospice. He is fading.
1/23 Update – LA Sue’s brother passed away.

1/17 – Emmie asked for prayers. She and her husband are on the verge of foreclosure. Their side hustle of delivery driving ended when a young driver crashed into their car and totaled it. They aren’t able to make the mortgage payments without that extra income. Their church is helping, but it’s a small church.
1/23 Update – They have a loaner/rental car that they can use until they can devise a long term solution, and have found an insurer who will cover delivery driving work. Another friend is supplying a financial cushion during the mortgage reset probationary agreement. But the underlying financial problems persist. They ask for prayers that they would conduct themselves with wisdom, discipline, diligence, prudence, and joy in God’s provision. Emmie specifically asked for prayers in her struggle with resentment and despair.

1/18 – Teresa in Fort Worth sent an update. She had surgery on 12/11, and a pump was installed that will direct medication into the hepatic artery. This will allow a much larger concentration of medication to be applied directly into her liver. This should give fewer side effects and (hopefully) shrink the tumors. It will take several months before they know if this new medication is working, but if it does, they are hoping for an extra 2-3 years before the disease progresses again.

1/19 – NR Pax requested prayers for his father, who had a stroke on 1/16. He went back to the hospital on 1/19 and was in the ICU until 1/23 due to influenza. He is in the hospital and they do not know when he will come home.
2/5 Update – On 1/30 his dad was moved out of the hospital and into the PT wing of his retirement community. He will be going through PT twice a day and speech therapy as well. NR Pax’ mother is still dealing with the VA paperwork to get his disability raised to 100%. Thanks to everyone for their prayers.

1/20 – Inogame asked for prayers. His wife and baby girl (due in February) are healthy, but some bad luck has come to their family. The business they purchased a year ago has taken an abrupt turn and they are trying to understand what is happening. They may not be able to keep their home if they cannot discover and correct the problem. This stress and what it might mean postpartum is worrying them. Thank you all for your prayers in the past.

1/20 – MkY sent an update on his wife Judy, who was diagnosed with Stage IV renal cancer last January. Despite being unable to receive her cancer drugs for 3 months while her port infection healed up, the tumors did not grow and she is feeling strong. Thanks so much for all the prayers! Last week, MkY was diagnosed with fluid on the brain. They operated the same day. They drilled two holes in his skull, inserted tubes, and had him lay flat on his back for 2 days. MkY thanks God for the modern miracles of medicine. He needs to heal quickly since he operates a small business. So far, no complications.

1/24 – NR Pax requested prayers for his father, who had a stroke on 1/16. He went back to the hospital on 1/19 and was in the ICU until 1/23 due to influenza. He is in the hospital and they do not know when he will come home.

1/24 – Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd posted some updates and requests. In the blessings department: blood glucose has continued to fall, well within normal range. BP is good. The hole where his molar used to be is coming along nicely. The youngest has jaw surgery coming up in February. This is many years in the making and should correct her bite and ease the pain in her jaw and ears. She’s not looking forward to the liquid diet, but is looking forward to the pain relief. Prayers are always appreciated, and based on what they have been through, he knows they are efficacious.
2/7 Update – He does not have any pain related to his lost molar anymore. And his (adult) daughter’s jaw surgery is scheduled for 2/9. She will stay overnight at the hospital in Ann Arbor.

1/25 – Pawn at AoS asked for prayers after his dear friend Julia passed away. He asked for strength for himself and his family to fill a very large void in this world. He only has a couple of friends left so asks for protection for them.

1/27 – K asked for prayers for K’s neighbor Mike, whose doctor found a lump near Mike’s esophagus. Many thanks.

1/30 – Bulg could use prayers after a distressing medical incident. His heart was racing and he was too weak to even really walk. His doctor thinks it might be AFib; he is wearing a heart monitor to gather more information, and he needs to keep a diary of any other heart-related incidents. Prayers are much appreciated.
2/6 Update – Bulg had two prayers of thanks. The first was that he had a good phone conversation with his sister, from whom he had been estranged for 20 over years. The second was that he does not have AFib.

1/31 – George V asked for prayers for his wife. She needs a heart valve replacement but first needs a heart cath to assess the valve and determine the replacement procedure and perhaps put stents in the coronary arteries that may be partially blocked. Also, the preliminary CT scan of her heart showed spots on her lungs that may be cancerous.

2/4 – BifBewalski posted that it has been a little over a year since he took Smash to the ER for abdominal problems. After a full year of insurance BS, specialists, and other doctors visits, she has been taken back for abdominal surgery today. Please offer a prayer for her successful procedure and a speedy recovery.
2/7 Update – BifBewalski brought Smash home from the overnight stay in the hospital. She is recovering well. The post-surgery fever broke and the pain is minimal. A full recovery is expected. Thank you for the prayers – it truly makes a difference!

2/7 – Frankie asked for prayers for her godmother, Linda, who has been in declining health and recently had to move to a care facility.

2/7 – Vmom deport deport deport requested prayers for her hubby, who has had the coughing crud since 2/2.

2/11 – Bluebell sent an update from grammie winger: "I've finished my 6th round of chemo. Thursday (Feb. 12) I will meet with the surgeon who will decide if surgery is an option for me. If not, I'm not sure if there's a Plan B. Maybe more chemo? Ugh - it's already deteriorated my vision and hearing. Nasty stuff. But it's all in the Lord's hands. I don't know how people who don't have faith do it. I miss Ace but it's something I have to set aside for now. I love each and every one of you. Even the trolls. LOL"

2/11 – Joe Kidd sent an update related to his friend, Bill, who we prayed for in December. Bill’s former girlfriend had passed away, and Bill and the girlfriend’s family were devastated by the loss. Bill has sold the house he (and the girlfriend) had lived in, and sent half the proceeds to his former girlfriend’s family. Just recently, Bill took early retirement to care for his 90 year old mother. Joe Kidd sends thanks. If you know, you know.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9

Tonight for V. Day I'll take us to the local Italian eatery up the avenue. It's gotten to be on the $$ side, but at least the portions are small.

(Old joke) Actually the portions are big, and we can make a second meal out of our entrees on Sunday or Monday.

All of their equipment is in horrible shape and they haven’t done regular maintenance for years. Everything is held together with rubber bands and duct tape but they’re running at 110% capacity because they’re desperate.

45 Good Saturday morning, horde.

Prayers for all, and thanks to bluebell for Grammie Winger's update.

I had a long, rambling text from my son waiting for me this morning. My night owl scheduled it to send at 8 am--he's thoughtful. He was emotional about some podcast he'd been listening to about some guy who was very successful, but his mom never believed in him. And so he wanted me to know he is grateful to have a mother who loves him and supports him even when he makes hard times for himself.

Anyway, I thought of how so many of you Morons don't have that, or you have family members who refuse to interact with you, or if they interact, it's distressing or abusive. I pray for you most of all.

54 It's been an eventful week at Chateau Lloyd. The grandkids got sick, one having to go to the urgent care to get some steroids for her lungs.

Meanwhile, youngest daughter's long-long-long-so very long-anticipated jaw surgery finally took place. (I'm not kidding, this was supposed to happen years ago but the pandemic screwed everything up.)

It seems to be fully successful, thanks be to God. She's recuperating rapidly, swelling is sharply down and she's counting the days towards getting off the liquid diet and having the rubber bands cut off. After that - braces get removed for the first time since the twenty-teens, if you can believe it.

Looking over my BP diary, I can see the spike starting on Monday and only now fading. Not dangerous or all that significant, but a useful reminder that even though we don't *feel* stressed, our budies may still be burdened by it.

55 Appreciate everyone's prayers in re my friend Bill. This week was the first time we spoke since his gf's passing. As stated above, the family (parents and older brother) came out from California for the brief service. Bill insisted they take possession of their late daughter's car, in addition to sending them the proceeds from her share of the house sale. FWIW, Bill had the greater financial interest in that house, but he remained steadfast in honoring the 50/50 commitment he made back when life held so much more promise.

One other note, the older brother recently suffered a widow-maker heart attack in early January. I know how that happens! During the big ice event, I was fine walking on it, but got overconfident and suddenly my feet shot out from under me and I fell hard on my side. Tucked my arms in and thought I handled the fall well, but I’m not as young as I was and am pretty sure I cracked a rib, as that area has given me a good deal of pain for a couple of weeks. Finally starting to lessen.

When you are already heavily dietary restricted, Lent is about doing more vs giving up what you have.

In fact, here, I have outlawed anyone giving up anything but alcohol, so the whole fam has decided to join me in "Friday extras" vs "Friday withouts" - for the fast 5 years, that was supporting soup dinners. Now, those aren't happening, so we are considered a different thing each Friday.

That said, we do abstain (and those who can fast do). Just nothing more food related.

This may have already been mentioned to you but I'll throw it out, just in case. For my knee replacement surgery a couple weeks ago I bought an ice therapy machine from Amazon, which I highly recommend. Not very expensive either. Freeze three or four small water bottles to use as ice, put them into the machine, along with a bit of water, wrap your injured joint with the attached pad, and enjoy the ice water pumped through the pad and around your joint. For me, it's been critical, and it might also help you.

114 Some of you might think there is a disconnection between my urging patience here in the States vs impatience in the UK, but that's because of the difference in systems of government.

The UK does not have a regular election cycle and there is no separation of power. Parliament is supreme and unbound by a written constitution. That means that a fluke majority can basically end the country, which it is busy doing.

It also means that the public can force an election through non-compliance.

The US has more checks and balances, is federal in nature, and so there is good reason to let the clock run rather than attempt extra-legal means to effect change. Black-pilling aside, the left is hanging on by its fingernails right now and they know it. The long delay over the SAVE Act works in our favor as more and more people become aware of it and wonder what they problem is. The talking points that "married women and black people are too retarded" to figure out their ID is not a great one to make, but that's where they are.

National divorce is stupid and suicidal. If California secedes they will instantly offer the Chicoms bases.

Name one example of a partition along communist lines that was not immediately violated. Give the left a safe haven and they will immediately bend every ounce of their energy to subverting the remainder of the nation.

The solution is to crush the serpent's head, not offer him some living space next door.

126 I once was in favor of a “national divorce” - because I believed we were losing. But we’re not - our side is winning, and it’s more and more clear that the Left survives only from the massive fraud and theft they engage in constantly. They’re losing, and they know it, hence their change of heart.
Well fuck that. We don’t have to negotiate with them, we can crush them. We don’t need some new Gorbachev to preside over the dissolution of his country. But I won’t object at all to a modern day Cromwell to clean things up.

134 This may have already been mentioned to you but I'll throw it out, just in case.
Posted by: Huck Follywood

When I had PT after my hip replacement the clinic I went to had a full leg sleeve ice therapy machine. After a workout a session with that sleeve was a such a treat.

YouGov published a poll showing 20% of Americans now support national divorce - not good enough, but it's a huge improvement.

A return to Constitutional federalism, where the states run their own affairs and the FedGov handles defense and foreign relations, would be best. But that's not good enough for the Left, who can't stand anyone being outside their power.

The question is simply this: do you want to do this while California remains a part of the union, or when it is nominally independent and the Chinese can legally land troops and establish bases?

If it is an internal matter, China will not intervene, but if we stupidly say "yeah, you're a free nation," now we're inviting foreign intervention from every corner. Note that none of those people intend to use California for anything other than a weapon. The idea is never to make it a success, just a beachhead to break American power.

China wouldn't have time to position significant troops or material. Knowing that they would be destined to lose, they'd throw in the towel quickly... probably as soon as the President said that we were going to start bombing Cali installations. The federal government would never stand for a "national divorce." There's too much money at stake, and that's really the bottom line if we're talking a structured, legislated divorce.

It's more likely the Balkanization that's already happening will continue with varying levels of federal control over certain areas... depending on the party. The Democrats would crush any dissent whereas the GOP would probably just let the nation fall apart.

Minneapolis is a prime example of how the Republicans would treat a break-away region. Show of force, then leave. Not much has changed in Minnesota since 1 January. Maybe a few less illegals, but that's about it. The Somalis are still there. The fraud's still there.

207 I find it ironic and a bit sad that NBC loves to hype certain Olympic athletes to such an extreme level prior to their event. Case in point the men's figure skater Malinin, who has been featured prominently in promotional spots and presented as a "game changer" because of his quadruple spins. Comes time for the big final where he is touted as having the gold medal all sewn up and he ends up falling twice and finishes in 8th place.

Oh, and who cares about the Norwegian or Latvian cross country skier who admitted to the world in tears that his girlfriend of three months broke up with him because he cheated on her. Or Lindsey Vonn's egocentric publicity stunt.

NBC is trying to tell the story before the story has even happened. Stop trying to make 'Fetch' happen.

There is NO good solution. The time when that could have happened is over. A majority of Congress and judiciary, and over 40% of the citizenry, are hostile to a free United States. That percentage of the citizenry may decrease over time but it may not. And even if it does, the pendulum will swing.

We can choose to do nothing, hoping and praying that sanity will be restored, that China and the Muslim states will collapse and, therefore, stop bribing our 'leaders' but every day that we allow this to fester, the eventual price grows.

Don't forget 4,000 deportations. The streets will be safer, not just there, but everywhere. The cases are being built, financial networks documented and of course Walz went from promising national figure to lame duck.

Minnesota's voter fraud has also been fully documented, and the feds will be all over that as well. Thanks to the SCOTUS ruling on standing, losing candidates can now sue and force discovery. The rules have significantly shifted in our favor.

Then you don't really understand logistics. What is the sailing time from the east coast to the Pacific? How long until new carriers reach station? What is their endurance? Will Hawaii choose to leave as well? It's lefty to the hilt, and all those fine bases would suit the Chicoms.

So now we have endless sea patrols, sapping our resources while China uses California as a gateway to the interior of the continent. Mexico will be firmly in their orbit, as will Canada. Are we going to invade Canada when the Chinese base opens in Vancouver?

Or maybe we could just keep doing what we are doing, grinding them down, exposing corruption, and crushing their financial networks and cleaning up the elections. People are herd animals, and they will shift to the winning side. Everyone went to Woodstock, and all the Good Germans hated the Nazis.

Trends change. I'm tired of overdeterminism where people pick a moment - French Revolution, US Civil War, the Federal Reserve, Israel's formation - and then say "everything went down hill and there's nothing we can do to stop it!"

Faith waxes and wanes. France underwent a Catholic revival in the 19th Century with the emergence of the apparitions at Lourdes. That continues to bear good fruit. The Little Flower, St. Therese of Lisieux, also continues to inspire, yet at the same time, French society pushed for even more secularism. It is always a mixture of good and evil.

What I do know is that God has the final word, and He is moving as I have never seen in my lifetime. This encourages me greatly.

I even picked a date: July, partly because of the July Rising in Spain, but because Trump was destroying Biden in the polls and as I told my friends "If Trump goes up by 5 points they will kill him."

And they tried. And failed by the narrowest of margins.

Now I look at the situation using the exact same professionally trained lenses and I see the left in a state of total despair. The correlation of strength is so lop-sided as to make Civil War 2.0 an impossibility. The only way we can screw this up is by pre-emptively surrendering and giving away the game, like voluntarily partitioning our nation. The left is on the ropes. They have nothing. They rely on crooked voting and manufactured consent. Take away the illegals, clean up the rolls and California goes red.

We are surging into the Gulf and can do so because it is not a sustained, long-term, permanent deployment.

Maintaining two CSGs off the West Coast but based in the Atlantic would be a massive undertaking that would sap our strength. During an exercise at Maxwell, one of the rooms had this cool planning chart with the major sea routes on it and a grid with the sailing days it took to traverse each one at various speeds. Going from the East Coast to the West is literally circumnavigating the globe. It is just about the longest logistic chain possible.

That is a huge strategic burden to carry.

No, I understand the limits on ours and also that China doesn't have to send a carrier group at all to control those waters. They have a maritime militia and is ranging all over the Pacific at the moment, and if the Left Cost separates, they need not directly challenge us by setting up shop there, but in Canada and Mexico. Then that long logistic tail becomes our burden, not theirs.

Most people do not understand the tyranny of distance, particularly in the Indo-Pacific Theater.

277 Maintaining two CSGs off the West Coast but based in the Atlantic would be a massive undertaking that would sap our strength.

The Spartans carried their triremes across the Isthmus of Corinth. Have we considered doing that with carriers? Sure, the Rockies would be tough, but it's all downhill to CA after that.

Most of the USAF's heavy lifters; C-17's and C-5's have been making back and forth trips across the Atlantic and into the Gulf Theater. Hundreds of flights. Over the last several weeks. Moving "stuff" needed for a prolonged operation. Or not.

Plus, the USAF has positioned hundreds of aircraft, of all kinds in and around the Gulf region too. Fighters, multi-roll, tankers, EW, Recon, etc.

In all likelihood his condition is terminal, with no prognosis having yet been voiced by his medical team. The situation is tough on our daughter and son, who now are approximately the same age as I was when my father passed from cancer in 1998 (my mother outlived him by twenty-four years).

346 I have grown to HATE V-Day. It's all so artificial. I've been married for 40 years (which is remarkable for a 29 year old) and I'm tired of it (V-Day, not my marriage). If 40 years isn't enough to establish my bona fides, another card and lunch isn't going to do it.

Oh, I totally disagree.

It's not to prove anything about myself.

It's simply a nice way to show my appreciation to the lovely woman who married me.

350 How was his bedside manner? Despite being precise and calm, it seems most of them have God complexes. Them and CT surgeons.
Posted by: Biff Pocoroba

Flat, calm, and even voice and temperament, before and after surgery. For whatever reason, I haven't had surgeons with a god complex but did have a pain doc that thought imaging was the end all be all and that putting hands on a patient (told by a PT to advise that) was gauche. He misdiagnosed by back pain as fibromyalgia and treated me for that as my spine deteriorated. Referred me to an ortho doc who followed his advice. Sought out neurosurgeons from that point as I had the arm and hand surgeries ruling out any other nerve compression issues in the past three years.

Guy was an osteopath who took over from my retired physiatrist. Have a new one now and she has no problems checking out the muscle spasms, etc.

I am flying a bit high right now so don't have the filters I normally do. Heh.

351 Praying, God bless, provide, heal and comfort all who have spoken and unspoken requests. I wish I could hug each of you and bring you a hot meal and diet appropriate baked goods! I truly pray this week is better than last for everyone.

352 I once again pray for every single gov't defrauder, all across the country, to receive serious prison time (if natural born citizens -- denaturalized and deported otherwise), as we pray for God to lead us not into temptation. We are sinners in a fallen world, and it is orders of magnitude easier to avoid temptation than to resist it.

But I have never even made six figures, and many of these fraudsters literally have less than half my IQ (so I think I could figure it out), and the service provision scams (like medical transport) are auto-laundering due to the money already coming from an official business. So if only the seven-figure scammers go to prison -- or worse, only the eight-figure scammers -- then that would be an intolerable temptation to me to give it a shot and play it smart, not getting too greedy. So easy to justify, that otherwise I'm the gullible sucker-chump getting fleeced!

May all the con artists end up in Federal PMITA prison, I pray to God, amen.

353 Maintaining two CSGs off the West Coast but based in the Atlantic would be a massive undertaking that would sap our strength.

There is a naval base in Bremerton, also San Diego. It would be real easy to carve off San Diego from an "independent" California. They have no army.

Bone cancer is horrendous and painful. I pray that your kids and he are comforted by the Good Shepard in their time of need.

And thx Fenelon.
