Washington's Birthday Cafe

blackandwhitebreakers.jpg
Breakers on the Irish Coast,
via Elaine Farrell Photography
Video of the breakers below the jump

May the wings of liberty never lose a feather.

Bring your daughter to work day.

Neat: Lighted aerial drones were used to indicate the exits at an event in Japan.

That's the fact, Jack!

Confusing a horse.

A self-cleaning beaver.

Kittes adopt a stray human.

Another instant adoption.

And another.

Gotta start doing some vigorous calisthenics.

Obligatory:

I'd check out the Andy Rooney segment every so often. And, sometimes, they'd have Charles Kuralt do a guest segment even though he wasn't part of the 60 Minutes regulars. Curmudgeons doing a news segment is always fun. Rooney, especially, used to appear digusted by most of the people he met. That always made me laugh.

Meet Punch — a macaque from a Japanese zoo with a difficult story

His mother abandoned him, and the caretakers raised him by hand. Later, he was moved into an enclosure with other monkeys, but he struggled to integrate into the group.

To give him some comfort, staff gave Punch a toy to replace his mother — and now he carries it everywhere.

After a viral video, visitors began coming specifically to see him, but he still plays alone, holding his plush “mom” close to his chest.

89 Glad the guy took both kittens.

I adopted my current cats as a pair back when they were kittens. It's definitely the way to go! They're well into adulthood now, but I love watching them play stalk each other, chase each other, wrestle, groom each other, and settle down to nap together. A close sibling can provide companionship to a cat in a way that a human just can't.

Also there's nothing quite like lying in bed with a pair of cats snuggled up to you, one on each side.

Steve Hilton is surging to 1st place in the California Governor race leading the pack in this wide-open primary! Thanks to California's Top-Two system, the June 2, 2026 primary could deliver a Republican vs. Republican general election matchup, completely shutting out the Democrats.

This is a once-in-a-generation chance to flip the script on Gavin Newsom's catastrophic leadership and boot the insane Democrat field consisting of Katie Porter and Eric Fang-Fang Swalwell out of the running!

California could finally get a real MAGA Governor who puts America First instead of another Newsom-style disaster. The people are fed up this primary is a referendum on the Democrats who wrecked the state.

I was excited, but concerned when I saw that they were making a movie of the book.

OMG - the movie was everything that I ever could have wanted and more. My daughters and I have a special bond through that movie - it is wonderful.

During WWII he wrote for Stars and Stripes while in the Army and covered a few important battles as well as being one of the first to report on the concentration camps (which turned him from being a pacifist into a believer in just wars).

He got a Bronze Star and an Air Medal for his service.

He was definitely an old school liberal, like most of his colleagues, but he had some brains, common sense and self-respect unlike the newsreader propagandists we have today.

Unless one of the women knew he was two-timing, they'd have no reason to forgive each other, as there would be nothing to forgive. "I'm sorry my husband did things I never knew about?"

And if he's dead, carrying a grudge won't help. Not like he could start three-timing them at that point.
