All of these are frequent visitors to my backyard feeder. Also cardinals and downy woodpeckers. The biggest birds we see are pileated woodpeckers, hawks, owls, and the occasional bald eagle. The eagles don't use the feeder, they just hang out in the tallest trees. Owls and hawks sit and wait quietly for prey.

24 I was deer hunting in one of my grandmother's blueberry fields in Arctic, Michigan. Standing still with a slug gun in hands. A chickadee thought landing on my head was a good idea. Not much of a purchase on the nylon hood, so he tried to land on my shoulders, left and right. This went on for about 15-20 seconds and the novelty of the thing soon wore off, so I gave my head a single shake and that bird was off like a shot.

25 Our first dog was half husky and malamute. My new husband felt I should "be protected." He just wanted a puppy, altho she did protect me once from a guy wanting to break in our house.

Years later, pg with #2, and walking toddler to tire him, she ate an entire frozen roast in about 15min. Plastic and the styrofoam plate.

I came home and it was gone. She was fierce in her denial. I led her outside and she fled to her doghouse and I was yelling at her. She then showed her teeth in anger and I let her win.

She ate two meals for that week and was happy.

Same - we have a red shouldered hawk that will sit in a maple tree on occasion. He's a pretty big boy. I have not seen (or heard) any chickadees this winter. Very odd.

Well, I'll be damned. They *did* invade Lichtenstein. Technically, anyway. And accidentally.

On a rainy March night, 171 Swiss troops were training near the border, doing land navigation training. The company commander took his men through the Alpine forest near the border, leading his men about 2 km (about 1.25 miles) into Liechtenstein before realizing he caused an international incident.

Everything would have been forgotten if the Swiss Armed Forces hadn’t apologized for it. Liechtenstein had no idea it had even happened, but accepted the apology nonetheless.

I wonder happened to the guy in charge. That's the kind of thing that disciplinary action should follow, but the constant razzing from the rest of the Army would be the far greater punishment...

When I was a kid my parents had friends that had a family cabin in the Adirondacks. The whole area was still on a party line with a central switchboard for limited connectivity outside the local area. That seems to be a thing for some reason. My Dad's parents split up on Valentines Day, 1981. Never divorced though. I think they were waiting for the other to die so they can swoop in and take over assets. It didn't work, of course. No assets worth anything and my Aunt put her foot down and advised my Grandmother of some hard truths, like lying on tax forms about marital status is wrong and they were NOT going to help her steal. 227 I've been to many NOLA Mardi Gras as a kid, Piper and Farmer.

The only one and last in college was epic. I got my first and only hickey on my neck in Pat O'Brien's piano bar. I did not know I was getting a hickey from the guy from the University of North Carolina. I was sitting in his lap and wall to wall people.

Met him at a parade earlier with his frat boy friends. He "rescued" me off a parade barricade as a nut with a rifle was on a balcony above us. As I was 17yrs old I was trying to see what the commotion was. Now they would shut down the city, but at the time police came and got him and the parade went on and we hung out with these guys.

The crowd carried us to Pat O'Brien's & I had a Hurricane. Before we got in, the side of my head was pressed against a police horse's side from the mass of people. A tsunami of people.

I was horrified to see the hickey later at my aunt's and tried to hide it with make-up and a turtleneck. My mother never asked.

The guy wrote me in MS and called my dorm for months later. Suddenly showed up on our farm (alarming my parents). He learned that evening that I was quite the lady who allowed no one to second base. He quit writing me after that!

Our mountains have about half of normal. There's hope. We've had 2 storms of a few inches back in Nov/Dec and nothing for January. I still have hope. A White Easter is possible and we had one in 1984 of 8" in our yard.

235 A friend of mine told a real horror story about being in New Orleans for a parade. He said the crowd was body to body, like festival seating in the old Rock-N-Roll days. He said a guy kept banging into his back and he kept shoving the fellow back away. After quite a few times he said that he twisted around to bitch at the guy and realized that the reason he was banging into him was that the guy was being stabbed repeatedly. My friend said that he was trapped up against the poor guy and couldn't get away in the press.

He also says that he is never going back.

There was no way I'd go again after college...this was in 1972 probably. And NOLA is an insane place to begin with. We fly in and out there as it's a direct flight from here vs Atlanta then an ancient plane to MS.The airport is it's own crazy.

We know not to go anywhere after dark with the kids in French Quarter. But nothing is safe, really. They still have great food in the old restaurants like Galatoires's, and my grands are the 5th generation to eat there. We are going to Commander's Palace for my birthday this year and then flying home the next day.

We honeymooned in NOLA as it's about 2.5hrs from the farm. I figured being from Long Island my groom had seen it all in NYC, but NOLA blew his mind. One of his grandmother's got goosed on Bourbon Street.

We were in a fancy French restaurant and he looked around and said, "This must be mafia run." I informed him the mafia was "not in the South." He and my father never let me forget this statement.

My first time in Louisiana was Basic Training at Ft. Puke, uhh, Fort Polk.

We go in the daytime, briefly, for beignets and coffee at the Cafe Du Monde. Last year we slept in. Dinner before dark.

Son, DIL and kids went to the Cathedral after coffee. Said a homeless woman tried to set the basket of tithes on fire and the police were called. Mass in NOLA.

There's a place on Jackson Square where I buy a hat each year and that's it!

One year we were staying in the Royal Orleans so the kids could swim in the rooftop pool. A jackass set off 2 fire alarms at 3am and we had to evacuate down the stairs and sit around til cleared by the police and FD.

Our then 5yo grandson had it explained to him that a "bad man" set the alarms and was just being stupid. So every time for a day he'd hear a car alarm he'd mutter that he guessed that was the "bad man." Upon leaving in the airport he saw the police escort a cuffed couple out of the gate and had closure. Told my husband they got the "bad man." We cracked up.

We know to be careful. Does not mean I won't be in the cross fire buying a hat someday.
