Trump Renews Call for SAVE Act to Keep Illegal Aliens (and Dead Citizens) from Voting as the Spanish Left Legalizes Illegal Alien Voting
With high-stakes midterms approaching, Trump has urged GOP lawmakers to stop dithering and move legislation he says is essential to securing U.S. elections. The president has called for mandatory voter ID, proof of citizenship, and a rollback of mass mail-in voting, arguing that states have failed to protect the integrity of federal elections. In recent remarks and social media posts, Trump said elections must be conducted "legally and honestly" -- and warned that if states can't do that, the federal government should step in. He has repeatedly pushed Congress to act, calling for passage of the SAVE America Act while demanding tighter standards for who can vote and how ballots are cast. The SAVE America Act would require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. Acceptable documentation would include a passport, a REAL ID-compliant identification showing citizenship, a military ID with proof of U.S. birth, or a government-issued photo ID paired with a birth certificate or naturalization papers. The bill also directs states to ensure only citizens are registered and requires in-person verification for mail-in applicants. It does not ban mail-in voting outright, nor does it change who counts ballots -- points Democrats and voting-rights groups have seized on as Trump continues to call for broader reforms.

I don't think it has any chance of passing the Senate. Republicans need 60 votes in the Senate, which they don't have. Alternatively, they could kill the filibuster, but once that rubicon is crossed there's no going back.
A lot of Democratic women are ready to make changes and do what they can to vote, but this would also knock out a lot of Republican women who are not ready to do that. Might this backfire on Republicans?
There's a section that would require all states to verify US citizenship prior to issuing drivers licenses. That would make it so pending status immigrants couldn't legally drive!
This is a wishlist disguised as a bill. Throw every grievance into one document and call it reform so no one can argue the details without looking defensive. this bill will be useful to the GOP even if it fails, because if it fails the GOP can use it as ammunition against the Democrats. They'll claim Democrats let immigrants vote or something, even though it never really happens.

Where I lived, until computers improved things, we used paper and pen ledgers to sign into vote and you can readily see if your signature was incorrect because there was the whole trail of past signatures in the bound volume. E signatures vary way too much and we should really scrap them for credit cards, hospitals, etc. for some other id verification scheme.

Targets are disks the size of a CD 2 50M. Decent challenge when you're in the middle of the most aerobic exercise there is. Especially in the standing shooting segment.

The two most common are iris and retinal, where iris is the one that most of us are familiar with in real-life, and retinal we mostly encounter seeing in movies.
Iris is in your phones, airports, and other venues where non-invasive biometric identity is required. Takes maybe a second or two to do.
Retinal scans requires close alignment to the scanner eyepiece and takes ten or more seconds to perform.
Retinal works because it maps the blood vessels in the back of the eye, so it doesn't care about blindness or dark eye color, but iris does care in visible light imaging (blue has higher accuracy, brown less so) but eye color has less effect in near IR lighting.
In a system I built for the military, we used powerful near IR because we were simultaneously capturing three modalities, finger, face and iris all with cameras. (yes, capturing fingerprints with cameras)

Was once skiing at a large great layout near Winter Park (YMCA of the Rockies) and there was a guy skiing with a biathlon rifle. He wasn't doing any shooting of course, but he was stopping at the range, mimicking a session, then doing a penalty lap before getting back on the main trail. I talked with him and he said he did it as part of a recreational club, some of the younger guys aimed at the Olympic team. Still remember thinking "damn, some places I could do biathlon as a hobby". Oh well.

Multi-modality provides better security, that is, match face, iris and fingerprint (8 out of 10 since thumbs are harder to capture on cameras)
With this one caveat: the blood vessel network at the back of the eye is incredibly stable and about as difficult as it can get for spoofing. So if foiling duplication is a premium and user friendliness is not even a factor, retina is still king.

If we arrange for you to vote in the comfort of your own home, so you don't have to drive or take off from work, then the money you spend making your place habitable is a poll tax.
