The Classical Saturday Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

IMG_1658.JPG

[Yup, it's -10, keep the coffee coming.]

*****

God works in miraculous ways. As the "trans" movement was spiraling out of control a recent lawsuit with a multi-million dollar verdict has snipped this movement in the bud. So to speak. It also helps that several medical associations have come out in favor of holding off until their patients are at least 18.

Thank God that socially awkward and/or mentally ill children will not be pushed into the butcher shops of these "health care professionals & facilities".

Now, that being said. Before we enter the prayer revival just a few housekeeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Darboy)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.
2) Be kind, be nice. Don't be Pretti Good. Be exceptional.
3) Sure you can run with sharp objects. The gauntlet of snowballs will be a challenge.
4) The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear (Psalm 27:1)
5) Have a great weekend!

What gender are you???? I must be a male hetrosexual as my coffee choice was not listed. (Black & bitter, like my soul) (H/T CBD)

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

11/15 – Sponge posted an update on the “First lady”. She is doing OK from the surgery pain-wise, however it appears her compromised immune system from chemo is susceptible to viruses. She has been spiking a fever all weekend.
12/13 Update – The First lady is doing well. She is still on restrictions but things are progressing nicely. The last mammogram showed clean. They are grateful to all who have been praying for her.
1/7 Update – They send thanks for the thoughts and prayers over the past year. The latest visit with her urologist revealed blood in her urine. The Doc didn’t seem concerned, but there will be more scans of her bladder and kidneys to see if they find anything more serious.
1/14 Update – Sponge sent an update on the First Lady’s father – he passed away on 1/11. They have been busy making arrangements for the arrangements, writing the obituary, eulogy, notifying people, etc. Thank you all for the thoughts an prayers that you have been providing for a long time.

12/20 – Morgan, longtime lurker, takes tango lessons from Sebastian, whose son, Matias, is recovering from brain surgery. The MRI was read on 12/19, and the surgeons did not remove the entire tumor. Even though the biopsy indicated the tumor was benign, the boy is probably facing several rounds of chemo. Please pray for the boy’s continued recovery in El Salvador.
1/10 Update – Matias will have surgery in 2 weeks to try and remove the rest of the tumor, and then he will receive radiation therapy.

12/27 – buzzion asked for prayers for a friend named Christina. Christina has struggled with a lot, including addiction and relapse. Buzzion has not heard from Christina in a while and hopes she is okay. Please pray that Christina finds her way and knows that people love and care for her and believe in her.
1/3 Update – Christina was arrested on 1/3. Please pray for this to be a final wake-up call for her.
1/22 Update – Christina was released from jail and is staying with Buzzion. She is working through the legal troubles and she is continuing her recovery. She really appreciates the prayers, as does Buzzion.

12/27 – BlackOrchid requested prayers for a Navy Veteran uncle who has been struggling with his health the last few weeks. The root cause is undetermined, but recurrent infection/sepsis keeps sending him back to the hospital. It seems to be worsening his dementia, which makes it harder for BlackOrchid’s aunt to handle him.
1/3 Update – BlackOrchid’s uncle (her “stand-in dad” is still not doing well. He will probably need to be put in a LTC facility although they are doing everything possible to avoid this. He is 86, and at the stage where his immune system can’t fight back well.
1/24 Update – BlackOrchid’s uncle is doing much better. He is carting around an O2 canister to help him, but otherwise is doing well.

1/6 – Diogenes requested prayers for his best friend since college, who was diagnosed with cancer. Within hours or hearing this, the friend’s son, a man that Diogenes has known since he was a baby, collapsed from what appears to be a brain tumor. The prognosis isn’t hopeful. Please pray for both of these fine men.
1/23 Update – Diogenes’ best friend’s son Sean had emergency brain surgery. The labs are back and it’s not good news. He has stage 4 brain cancer. They were scheduled to meet with an oncologist on 1/26 to determine the best pathway ahead for the time he has remaining. This is just crushing news. Thanks to all the Horde for their prayers and support for this fine young man.

1/8 - Doof asked for prayers for his mother. She was hit hard by the flu. She couldn’t get out of bed the morning of 11/8 and was sent by ambulance to the hospital. She is alert and communicating but prayers are appreciated for her recovery. Prayers are also appreciated for Doof, as he absolutely despises hospitals.
1/23 Update – Mom was in the hospital for 5 nights and has been in a rehabilitation center since 1/13. Her recovery is slow but steady. Her breathing and mobility are still not back to normal. She is good spirits but wants to be home. They very much appreciate the continued prayers.

1/10 – LA Sue asked for prayers for her brother, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September. They just learned it moved from stage 2 to stage 4. The chemo treatments and side infections from surgery have so debilitated him that he is considering stopping. Please pray for strength and that he opens his heart to God.
1/18 Update – LA Sue is taking her brother to hospice. He is fading.
1/23 Update – LA Sue’s brother passed away.

1/15 – Sharkman posted on behalf of Niederemeyer’s Dead Horse that NDH was given a prognosis of 6 months to live due to heart failure. The plan is for NDH to move into the Mayo Clinic to receive treatment and wait for a transplant.

1/17 – Emmie asked for prayers. She and her husband are on the verge of foreclosure. Their side hustle of delivery driving ended when a young driver crashed into their car and totaled it. They aren’t able to make the mortgage payments without that extra income. Their church is helping, but it’s a small church.
1/23 Update – They have a loaner/rental car that they can use until they can devise a long term solution, and have found an insurer who will cover delivery driving work. Another friend is supplying a financial cushion during the mortgage reset probationary agreement. But the underlying financial problems persist. They ask for prayers that they would conduct themselves with wisdom, discipline, diligence, prudence, and joy in God’s provision. Emmie specifically asked for prayers in her struggle with resentment and despair.

1/18 – Teresa in Fort Worth sent an update. She had surgery on 12/11, and a pump was installed that will direct medication into the hepatic artery. This will allow a much larger concentration of medication to be applied directly into her liver. This should give fewer side effects and (hopefully) shrink the tumors. It will take several months before they know if this new medication is working, but if it does, they are hoping for an extra 2-3 years before the disease progresses again.

1/19 – NR Pax requested prayers for his father, who had a stroke on 1/16. He went back to the hospital on 1/19 and was in the ICU until 1/23 due to influenza. He is in the hospital and they do not know when he will come home.
2/5 Update – On 1/30 his dad was moved out of the hospital and into the PT wing of his retirement community. He will be going through PT twice a day and speech therapy as well. NR Pax’ mother is still dealing with the VA paperwork to get his disability raised to 100%. Thanks to everyone for their prayers.

1/20 – Inogame asked for prayers. His wife and baby girl (due in February) are healthy, but some bad luck has come to their family. The business they purchased a year ago has taken an abrupt turn and they are trying to understand what is happening. They may not be able to keep their home if they cannot discover and correct the problem. This stress and what it might mean postpartum is worrying them. Thank you all for your prayers in the past.

1/20 – MkY sent an update on his wife Judy, who was diagnosed with Stage IV renal cancer last January. Despite being unable to receive her cancer drugs for 3 months while her port infection healed up, the tumors did not grow and she is feeling strong. Thanks so much for all the prayers! Last week, MkY was diagnosed with fluid on the brain. They operated the same day. They drilled two holes in his skull, inserted tubes, and had him lay flat on his back for 2 days. MkY thanks God for the modern miracles of medicine. He needs to heal quickly since he operates a small business. So far, no complications.

1/24 – NR Pax requested prayers for his father, who had a stroke on 1/16. He went back to the hospital on 1/19 and was in the ICU until 1/23 due to influenza. He is in the hospital and they do not know when he will come home.

1/24 – Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd posted some updates and requests. In the blessings department: blood glucose has continued to fall, well within normal range. BP is good. The hole where his molar used to be is coming along nicely. The youngest has jaw surgery coming up in February. This is many years in the making and should correct her bite and ease the pain in her jaw and ears. She’s not looking forward to the liquid diet, but is looking forward to the pain relief. Prayers are always appreciated, and based on what they have been through, he knows they are efficacious.

1/25 – Pawn at AoS asked for prayers after his dear friend Julia passed away. He asked for strength for himself and his family to fill a very large void in this world. He only has a couple of friends left so asks for protection for them.

1/27 – K asked for prayers for K’s neighbor Mike, whose doctor found a lump near Mike’s esophagus. Many thanks.

1/30 – Bulg could use prayers after a distressing medical incident. His heart was racing and he was too weak to even really walk. His doctor thinks it might be AFib; he is wearing a heart monitor to gather more information, and he needs to keep a diary of any other heart-related incidents. Prayers are much appreciated.

1/31 – George V asked for prayers for his wife. She needs a heart valve replacement but first needs a heart cath to assess the valve and determine the replacement procedure and perhaps put stents in the coronary arteries that may be partially blocked. Also, the preliminary CT scan of her heart showed spots on her lungs that may be cancerous.
2/4 – BifBewalski posted that it has been a little over a year since he took Smash to the ER for abdominal problems. After a full year of insurance BS, specialists, and other doctors visits, she has been taken back for abdominal surgery today. Please offer a prayer for her successful procedure and a speedy recovery.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.

"..."the most important election of our lifetime" but i think this may be a much more plausible claim about the selection of an administration to implement public control of agi"

Everything any government attempt to "control" immediately converts to shit; becomes profoundly corrupted, expensive, abusive and destructive to society.

That said, it is what happens between the handing over of the police powers of the state to another regime.

Its the intellectual and critical thinking destruction of the population. The appearance of "Grok is this true?" for any story tells a lot. First, the assumption that humans tell nothing but hype, false narratives and lies. Second, that "AI" has a built in benevolent honesty and wisdom sentience, and despite being trained on false narratives and lies will only bear Truth.

What we are seeing is that your average LIV has zero trust in civil governments and child-like gullibility for AI. Is it any small wonder that trillions of dollars are being thrown at the ultimate skin-suit?

17 Good Saturday morning, horde.

Prayers for all of you. Thank you to Mis Hum and Annies Stew, and notsothoreau for keeping our list of needs up to date.

Every day, I pray that God guide us in these times, and helps us to defeat the evil that encompasses us, that corrupts our institutions and confuses our children. This week, I felt real movement toward that in our country. Feeling positive about things.

And, my son found a good job after two years of temporary and part time employment. God is good!

18 Many blessings upon you all! I guess we can drop the prayers for where my tooth used to be because I just chomped on two slices of toast and while the gap felt kind of weird (and will take some getting used to), no pain or discomfort whatsoever. Yay!

Monday is the big procedure, the new braces are in place (with hooks for the bands) and I'm taking half the week off from work to help manage things. The operation will be in Ann Arbor and require and overnight stay, but we'll just commute. My daughter is an adult and no one (including her) wants to stay in Ann Arbor more than they have to.

For those who haven't been there, Imagine narrow winding roads through a heavily forested hilly river valley that open out into a suburb with random university buildings crapped out all over the place. Traffic is insane, the interstate has this weird system of lights to tell you which lanes to use, but at the end of the quest, you reach it: Barad Dur, the University of Michigan Hospital, founded upon a mighty hill, encircled by congested roads, with battlements, cornices and engroinments all fashioned using non-Euclidean geometry. Orcs ceaselessly roam about, ticketing vehicles.

25 Morning again, caffeinators,

I'm cleaned up and am wondering whether to wait a bit, go have a little chow at my favorite diner/grill, then wash the car; or do the car first. Temp is up to 52 and there's not much wind, so the car washing won't be cold.

The furry thugs ate a while ago. Black Stirling, he of the early morning leaps and kicks to my ribs, is sleeping atop the couch, while little gray Dagny is ensconced atop my pipe box on the kitchen counter. They do love to sit up high, don't they?

Meh. Coffee is something I learned to drink. Always loved the smell, hated the taste. I used to back it with creamer and sugar, but I gave that up to beat the Diabeetus (and it worked). Now I use heavy whipping cream in whatever flavored k-cups are on sale. It's nice. You can shake up the bottle and quite a bit of froth. Fancy!

Now my whiskey...that's something where no compromises can be accepted. Even more so for beer.

I don't want to fall into the heresy of Indifferentism, but neither do I want to indulge in disputes with my Protestant brethren, save defending Catholic doctrine when pushed.

I will say, however, that I get disgusted by denominations that let themselves get blown hither and thither by the Zeitgeist. We have to deal with the world as we find it, but we don't have to accept it as we find it.

58 Just as the purpose of "Bible Studies" is to discredit the Bible.

Depends what kind of Bible Study one attends. From My Lived Experience™ BS meetings are frustrating. For the first fifteen minutes, we are all having barber-shop talk until we give up stalling for any late-comers, then a generic prayer, or in some cases going around and asking for prayer requests, then something a bit more targeted.

Then the lengthy and trendy process of partitioning the chapter or two that will be "studied" into incoherent chunks of verses that each person around the group reads. (I love the part of OT History reading where the unfamiliar names are mangled when read aloud).

Then the "What does this passage mean to you?" time where we identify the extroverts from the introverts in the group.

At the end, all we did was replicate first grade class reading exercises from elementary school.

I get the Koinonia part, but there isn't any form of recognizable "studying".

I place some blame on the Trannies for the dumbing down of the kids.

Almost 30 years ago, Harry Potter was released. The series was a phenomenom - children were waiting in line or having their parents do so when the next book in the series was released.

Children. Children were reading the books. They were glued to the stories, hooked on the fantasy of the Wizarding World. And they weren't reading them because of homework, but because they wanted to.

Enter the Trans Mafia. They went after Rowling because she opposed little girls being shown manginas in the bathroom. Because she believed in safe spaces. So she was dubbed "TERF", and had to be destroyed.

Today? The new kids are going to college and having to get re-edumicated because read no good them. Why read when Tik Tok?

A harmless fantasy had to be destroyed, its creator tore down. Replaced with nothing good in its wake, only a void.

This recent news may signal an end to the mass delusional hysteria of adolescents (encouraged by grooming teachers, counselors and medical personnel). Although the AMA in general has been largely irrelevant over the last 25 years or longer, it has a high enough profile in the public eye that its policy positions do carry some weight.

This reversal leaves the AAP, (ironically claiming to advocate FOR children) as the most influential organization still pushing the transgender fallacy as "supported by scientific evidence. Now that the AAP stands alone I wonder which way they will go. Will they double down on the insanity or will they fold their tents and decamp from this battlefield?

The women's group at my church does a hike the first Saturday of the month. It's not too strenuous and not a lot of elevation but it's still an uneven trail. They try to do different trails every month. I think I'm going to go this time since it's really close to my house.

127 Just finished my 2nd cup of coffee this morning. Watched my car videos on youtube - reliving my youth of watching Saturday and Sunday morning "Horsepower hour" shows...

Anyways. I have to go finish replacing the drain pump in the washing machine this morning. I got the new pump mounted to the drain assembly and mostly re-attached. 3 out of the 4 hoses are reattached, the wires are all reattached - now I just have to re-attach the mounting bracket to the frame of the washing machine via the impossible-to-reach bolts while trying to not slice up my wrists on the sheet metal edges.

And to top it off, I'm not even getting sexual favors in compensation for fixing the thing.

Injustice I tell you.

I got sick of making a whole pot of coffee every morning only to drink either 2 cups. Sometimes I'd drink the whole pot. So I picked up a DeLonghi coffee maker from Williams-Sonoma and man it makes perfect coffee. You can customize the size from 3oz all the way up to 42oz (carafe). You load the beans in the hopper and it does its thing. Only downside is that it makes a mess all over the counter and you have to constantly empty the waste bins of water and grinds. But dang is the coffee good.

Reading the tea leaves, I saw an AAP statement from December that had a couple subtle hints that they may be preparing a strategic retreat. Previously they had used language that what they euphemistically call "Gender Affirming Care" is supported by the preponderance of scientific evidence. (this evidence was mostly based on short term self-reported decrease in patient feelings of sadness and suicidal thoughts) The December piece softened this language slightly saying that there is evidence that gender affirming care in teens MAY decrease suicidality. This opens the door a crack toward giving them an out to reverse their stance and join the preference cascade.

Meh, I'll beleve it when I see it.

Among them was a handmade poster: "Trans The Kids!"

I was kind of shocked. As the weeks went by I would think about it every time I passed. Sometimes disgusted. Sometimes prayerful. I have finally concluded that whoever lived there was actually doing a public service. Now everyone knows. Like a scarlet letter or purple hair. Thank you for self identifying.

Yup! It was a small neighborhood bar but the majority of the retweet also in the industry so it was a late crowd, when the restaurants closed down.
Every one tried to tell you how to run the place, what kind of music to play, decor, when to open, sports to put on, etc. We decided on a clientele and stuck to it. We played classic rock, had darts, shuffleboard, board games, dominoes, and some bar top video games. The first year was rough but we stuck to it and it became pretty successful.

I haven't tried the Empress 1908 gin yet. It's on my list though.

The gin cocktail I'm most proud of lately is a Gibson riff.

2 oz Citadelle Vive Le Cornichon Gin
1 oz Martini and Ross Riserva Speciale Ambrato Vermouth
2 drops The Japanese Bitters Umami Bitters
Hard shake with ice.
Pour into cocktail glass.
Garnish with 2 S&R Tipsy Onions

This brings a lot of subtle flavors to a Gibson changing it a fairly bland cocktail to one worthy of attention.

174 Looked up the most recent ACOG guidance from 2021. A sampling:

Obstetrician–gynecologists should ask patients about their name and which pronouns they use. Asking all patients routinely for their gender identity and gender pronouns normalizes the interaction and allows patients to disclose without being targeted; good practice includes reciprocal disclosure (eg, “Hello, I am Dr. X and I use she/her pronouns. Is the name on your chart what you would like me to call you? What pronouns do you use?”.

And that's one of more mild parts.

In the last few years we've learned that the vast majority of people will go along to get along, which is a very useful trait in a properly ordered society, but is lethal in one that is veering over the ethical cliff.

Having seen this up close, a lot of otherwise sensible people in psychology and psychiatry bit their tongues because they would have been destroyed had they spoken out. Some may deplore this, and condemn, but few of us have ever been at the point of a gun waiting for the hammer to fall like that.

Not all actually complied, however, and there were people who worked behind the scenes and if you knew the questions to ask, you could find them and they would help you. They were not cowards, but prudent, knowing that the madness could not last and they had people they could not help if they lost their practice and license.

True, but not the entire story.

It is often said that people go into psychiatry looking for resolution of their own problems. There are true believers in the trans debacle who are seeking validation of their own delusions. The prime example of this is Dr. Richard Levine. After Pediatric residency he sought further training as an
Adolescent Medicine specialist, with an emphasis on Psychiatry and specifically gender dysphoria. He later declared himself a woman (in his 50's), after a marriage that produced two children. He actively counseled minors to follow their delusions. And he did that not to make money, but to add a measure of validation to his own delusions.

As for surgeons doing genital and breast surgeries on kids, sure, they make money, but there is a strong element of playing God. They do it because they CAN do it.

185 God allows the wicked to flourish to call the faithful to repentance. It is all to easy to look at injustice and give oneself over to wrath, vowing to "burn it all down," but in so doing, you are letting the devil use your voice. He is the one who wants to burn it all down.

This is why we have to adopt a more thoughtful, grateful attitude, looking at blessings rather than lamenting nice things that have been for the moment denied to us. I'm sitting beneath what was once a gaping hole in the ceiling that regularly leaked and as long as I live here, I hope I never forget God's favor in giving me the means to repair it.

It’s hard to admit, and a cruelty to the Iranian people, but the “safe” play in Iran is the same as in Cuba - stand back and watch them implode from the inside.

Same for psychology. That's what my wife did. Came from a messed up family, so went to school to diagnose everyone around her, including her.

In 1933, the Nazis couldn't get the Germans to boycott Jewish-owned stores and canceled a planned 30-day demonstration after only 1 day.

In 1938, the Nazis burned every synagogue and arrested 20,000 Jews in a nationwide pogrom with hardly a word of protest.

In the space of 5 years, the Germans had been convinced that the Jews were a mortal enemy and had to be destroyed.

Engineering Electronics (required for non-EEs) at my school was the same. The flaky prof wrote the textbook. It and his lectures were 90% about the incredible usefulness of op-amps. Did we learn anything about designing a complete circuit for these amazing little beauties? Not that I recall. Did we learn much about controlling electric motors, and electronic measurement devices and their circuity? Not that I recall. I still can't believe the Engineering Department allowed that guy to teach the engineering electronics subject.

I get what you are trying to say, but Nazi analogies are worn out at this point.

People submit because they don't have an alternative. Had the West mobilized at Munich rather than caved, Hitler would have been deposed by a military coup and shot. Now every international incident is "another Munich."

I like Spain because you had a point of resistance that emerged and it showed that the normal people would rally to it if given a chance. That's a much more relevant example.

It's fascinating to watch interviews of Trump from decades ago when he was already talking about how American political leaders had sold out the US by surrendering our economic leverage to globalists. We've long had the power to influence world events with our economic might, we just haven't had a president with the balls and brains to do it.

For decades we have been paying exorbitant prices for drugs while our "friends and allies" have been paying a tiny fraction of what we pay for the same drugs. Trump changed that equation by just applying tough negotiating techniques and now we will be paying some of the lowest prices in the world.

He's more than earned my trust on these issues. He sees the same problems we do but he's taking a different approach from any other president in my lifetime. And it's working. Let Trump be Trump.

No, their decay was revealed. Big difference.

I think those involved also feel remorse and we are seeing many of them make course corrections. We should embrace their turn, not blame them for their initial failure. Peter denied our Lord three times.

The whole covid/trans thing hits my family hard because we were in the crosshairs of both, and I thank God that we had the means to stand firm against both. But I cannot condemn those who could not, who looked at the ruin of their lives and the lives of those who depended on them and wondered if it would even matter. Indeed, my heart goes out to them because I'm sure it wounded them deeply.

A big part of the Bolshevik win was because the Russian Orthodox Church had become an arm of the monarchy. In Russia, the peasants gleefully sacked their churches while in Spain they reacted with horror. Spain had been heavily secularlized by the 1930s, but the spectacle of the parish priest who baptized you being lynched and the bodies of nuns being disinterred and defiled was just too much.

The first thing to understand is that Germany was not and is not monolithic. It is more regional than national and those regions have sharp cultural differences. Southern and western Germany (Bavaria and the Rhineland) are majority Catholic while the rest are Lutheran, which is to say served by the Evangelical Church, which is a state church. Just as with England, the state church toes the government line, so a lot of the Nazi success flowed from people in the pulpit saying it was okay.

Yes, I am aware of Lutheran pastors who dissented, but the Lutheran church as a whole failed. Some Catholics collaborated of course, but the major figures resisted throughout the Reich, and many were martyrs (along with their Protestant counterparts).

No, this isn't a sectarian debate, but cuts into why the population was lulled into compliance. It is also important to recall that the pogroms proceeded gradually, and that the actual death camps did not happen until the war was underway. (cont)

False comparison; first Obama did not “do nothing”, he sent them 2 cargo plane loads of cash, if you recall.
Second, starting another Middle East war is no small thing, as all who remember Iraq and Afghanistan can attest. We will not do any “boots on the ground” under any circumstances, that is just a hard fact. So can airstrikes alone topple a 3rd Reich level regime, or will they simply cause even more of the population to be slaughtered?

This is undoubtedly correct. As we can see in this country in the last several years. Propaganda, indoctrination, repetition works. As well as “do this, or lose your job, tenure, pension, social standing”. This is not to excuse anything but it explains it.

Both conjectures are probably true, Germans are intelligent and hardworking, so if it applies to genocide, well they’ll put their best minds on it and perform with Teutonic efficiency or whatever.

I’m not sure how any organization can operate effectively without adherence to orders. Particularly the military. The Nuremburg tribunal rejected this assertion and did not allow “just following orders”.

But again we saw during the lockdowns everyone was itching to let their freak flag fly. Human nature, I guess.

I have that, but have yet to watch it. I have to be in the mood to dedicate so much time to a movie, and these days I just don't have the energy.

Fen, if you're reading this, you might be interested in a book I just read, Michael Norton's A Hiker's Guide to Purgatory, a novel about a man who dies, wakes up in Purgatory (which turns out, in his case, to be a long forest / mountain hike) and comes to terms with his life. It's RCC theology, but entertaining. I'll talk more about it on the book thread tomorrow.

I could build a mighty text wall and leave stuff out. We have an embarrassment of wins before us.

I've been following politics since I was a kid and I've never seen a 1 year period of both world and national change like the one we just lived through. Probably never will again.

A couple years ago we were bemoaning the idea that we were a country in steep decline and it seemed almost inevitable we would follow the rest of the west into communism and censorship. Instead, we are leading a revival of nationalism and back in our rightful place as leader of the free world.

389 >>> What is so incredible about Trump 2.0 is how many non-kinetic levers he is using. Obama used to drone on about "whole of government" initiatives, but they were all pointless and completely corrupt.

Trump is actually doing it. Coast Guard ships boarding shadow tankers, the Treasury crushing currencies and putting on secondary sanctions, using tariffs to enforce compliance with our trading partners.

I could build a mighty text wall and leave stuff out. We have an embarrassment of wins before us.

The one thing about all of oblama's corruption, which metastasized under bite-me is that it built a massive distributed machine that siphons off the world's life. I don't think the PTB would have directed oblama to do all the crap he did without a massive benefit to their power. I believe that the corruption he infected the world with went very deep, basically kudzu of humanity, and will require extreme measures to kill off.

I showed you that your proof that something was done to help the revolution was the same things we did in 2009. So what you’re saying is Obama should have not been criticized for his lack of action during the green revolution.

391 Obama is a piece of shit muzzie. He did nothing to help the Green Revolution. he did everything he could to help the mullahs suppress it.

That was why Obama was condemned. It wasn't mere inaction, it was shoring the regime up.

393 [Yup, it's -10, keep the coffee coming.]. Geez someone fire up the planetary fans. Its overly warm and dry in the mountain west region. I've been enjoying the warmth, I'm not into snow and ice. But its unusual, even for Colorado which I often describe as not having a climate, just random weather.

Sigh. What day did we bomb Iran in 2009?

When did Obama detain a single shadow fleet tanker?

When did Obama announce secondary sanctions on trading partners buying Iranian oil?

When did Obama reduce Iran's currency to garbage. It is unexchangeable and worthless.

It really is nothing but scene after scene of Dutch artistic paintings. It is an interesting film from just that standpoint.

It's gorgeous to look at, but it really dragged near the end.

At first, I paused it to get more snacks, or take a potty break, but by Part 2 I didn't bother.

Isn't that the story of all of Kubrick's stuff? It's sharp, crisp, interesting and then...slow. "Full Metal Jacket" being a terrible offender.

TBF, I haven't seen "The Shining" and have no interest in it.

398 Kalshi has a market on Trump being out of office before Jan 20,2029

It’s at 45% right now.

Theres 0% chance he’s convicted in an impeachment. So this is a death bet on him.

399 Also, I find people
Who basically have the same political opinions insulting each other kind of tiresome, although I realize we can all have life events that make us kind of crabby. So have a good day everyone, and try to do something that gives you joy and blesses others maybe as well.

405 Obama did empty symbolic things because he wanted the Mullahs to stay in charge and secretly send them pallets of cash, which likely saved them.

Trump takes concrete action - sometimes kinetic, sometimes not - and is all about results.

The great thing is that these are not compartmentalized. If you think the Iranian people didn't watch Maduro get black-bagged and think that they weren't encouraged to try harder, I can't help you.

Similarly, sweeping up the Shadow Fleet is a multi-win scenario, crushing China, Cuba, Russia and Iran. Funny how Trump finds these all-purpose pressure points that everyone else missed.

407 We pray to not be lead into temptation, because we are sinners in a fallen world, and it's easier to avoid than to resist. So I pray for all the scammers defrauding gov't services to get found out, prosecuted, and sentenced to hard time in real prison, because labor is literally a curse -- one kind for the sons of Adam, the other for the daughters of Eve -- and the prospect of avoiding it would be a temptation.

I have never made six figures in my life, and if only enough resources are thrown at the problem to deal with the ones raking in seven figures, then that will quite frankly be a temptation I don't need -- especially since the service provider frauds are auto-laundering, with the money already coming clean out of an official business. It's so easy, people with less than half my IQ have done it, so I can't imagine it would be too hard for me.

May God deliver us from temptation, and harden the prosecutors' hearts against mercy for the guilty.
