He goes up to a beautiful blonde and says, "So, do I come here often?" ![]() ![]() ![]() For years, the double feature was a dependable part of the movie-goer's life. Where did it come from, and where did it go? Nowadays, if someone says the phase "double feature," any number of things may come to mind. Maybe you remember seeing a double-bill of movies at a second-run theater or drive-in in your younger days; maybe it makes you think of amusingly schlocky horror like "I Was a Teenage Frankenstein"; or maybe it gets you humming the opening to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. All of these have one thing in common: poppy nostalgia. Watching two movies back-to-back seems sort of adorably retro as a concept (we say, as Netflix pops up to ask if we're still awake after episode #6 in a row of Samurai Gourmet).Long but interesting article. "Adding insult to injury, Dee has recently found out the level of intensity he has dedicated to his life's work has taken its toll on his heart as well. He can no longer push the boundaries of rock n' roll fury like he has done for decades. Says Snider: 'I don't know of any other way to rock. The idea of slowing down is unacceptable to me. In audio from the Lycoming County fire and EMS service, a dispatcher is heard saying, "I don't have a lot of details, lot of people screaming, some kind of a burn victim." The Banana Barbados and its Mont Gay Eclipse Rum reminds me of an ongoing vexation: gratuitously gay music videos. I didn't have MTV back in the day, but now I can just watch them all on YouTube -- and some of the bands whose songs I liked on the radio are just obnoxiously faggy on video.
I speak here of Faith No More, Goo Goo Dolls, and Jane's Addiction, among others. I've been saving all the videos for songs I like, since that's a way to have them on hand without breaking the bank on albums, but the plan falls apart if the video pisses me off. Anyone else dealt or dealing with similar? Posted by: SciVo at February 07, 2026 10:18 PM (BrJjn) 64

---- Agreed. And for the life of me I can't figure out how the guitarist turned in that kind of performance. It rides right along the edge of being out of tune...and rides right along the edge of being off the beat...and no matter how many times I listen to him I keep waiting for him to lose the song completely...but he never does! Its complete mastery, because I'm hanging on every note he plays. Posted by: Crusader at February 07, 2026 10:20 PM (Cjcf6) 72

Life lesson #10...
When I told people that I was retiring, they asked what I planned to do with my time. I told them, "Not a fucking thing." I've spent my whole adult life under the tyranny of the clock. Always having to be somewhere, do some thing, frequently where lives depending on me doing it correctly, on-time, and under stress. I've got a list of things that I might get to, when I feel like it, but I'm not planning anything. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at February 07, 2026 10:23 PM (ExV1e) 92

Hello, Horde! 😊♥️
My exciting day was spent prepping a couple of things for tomorrow's festivities. We have invited our neighbor over so that she won’t be alone. Paul helped me mix up some dip ingredients and all of the fixings for meatloaf (it's been ages since I have made that - we'll see if everyone likes it). Just cobbled toge5her some recipes from the internet that had all of the ingredients that sounded good to me 🤣🤣🤣 The chemo regimen they have me on involves low dosage (but not systemic) steroids, so I have more energy than usual, and a bit more of an appetite than I had before, so I am actually cooking for the first time in several years. But I do get tired sooner than I would like....(and tonight I discovered that parmesan cheese tastes funny for some reason). Thankfully, Paul also did the dishes so that I could sit down and rest - he's such a sweetheart ♥️♥️♥️ Oh, well - at least I am still above ground, right? 😊♥️ We just saw previews for a movie that looks like it will be stupid fun, so we're gonna stay up and watch it 🤣 Posted by: Teresa in Fort Worth, Texas, AoSHQ's Plucky Wee One - Eat the Cheesecake, Buy the Yarn. at February 07, 2026 10:26 PM (SRRAx) 107

160 Motley Crue had a ton of big songs. But Mama I'm Coming Home was Ozzy Osbourne. Written by Lemmy Kilmeister I believe and he was given a flat fee (Sharon ripped him off) for his words, the album was a smash hit...most of the songs are solid except for Zombie Stomp which was filler junk.
The song you MAY be thinking of is Home Sweet Home by Motley. Off of Theater of Pain. A weak-ish album but sold well Posted by: GigantorX at February 07, 2026 10:41 PM (x8k2o) https://youtu.be/wtUtXRRbQR0 Posted by: tankdemon at February 07, 2026 10:46 PM (L6F6A) 178

Okay class, listen up.
This week on February 5th was the feast day of Saint Agatha of Sicily. This saint is known for having her breasts cut off as part of her martyrdom. She is one of the most ancient and venerated virgin martyrs, mentioned in the Roman Canon of the Mass. The city of Catania, Sicily, the city where her relics are found holds massive processions and festivals to honor her on her feast day, including traditional sweets shaped like breasts called "minne di Sant'Agata" or "St. Agatha's breasts". When I was a kid, growing up in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood in the 1960s, my brother would often take me to the Granada Theater, a grand 1920s-style movie palace, on Saturday afternoons, to see a double feature: usually a western or war movie, and a sword-and-sandal epic. The screen was HUGE, the sound-system LOUD, the decor was pseudo-Moorish and very spooky, and we had a grand time - all for a quarter. I pity the smartphone junkies who are growing up today: they have no idea what entertainment really can be.

The 1980 USA vs Soviet Union hockey game for the gold was worth it, boys and girls!
We'd been married almost a year. Woke early to watch in the kitchen during breakfast. I remember being so excited I hit the '50's fridge with the side of my fist at one point. Major stress and we could hardly believe we won!!! Felt on top of the world winning! One of those fridges in the ancient rental that had a freezer compartment big enough for two metal ice trays. I'm not sure why I remember this, but I do. We were drinking bloody Mary's so we must have been off from work. It was a BFD! So exciting! I doubt we will watch much this time except the skiing and/or support the Americans who love the USA. I will boycott the rest. I am sho' not watching curling. I do like,so far,the USA top male ice skater. Probably won't like him if he says something stupid, unpatriotic or ghey. Posted by: ChristyBlinkyTheGreat at February 07, 2026 11:21 PM (WONhk) 260

Can't wait to see the the article that pops up at the end of winter that says this is the warmest winter on record for Northeastern US.
If you search average temperatures for November, December, January and the beginning of February, every single month has been over 10 degrees Below the average since before Thanksgiving. And, according to Grok, the last three weeks have set a new overall record for low temperatures in the region. And still, there will be the obligatory article popping up at the beginning of Spring telling me it was the warmest winter on record for the region. Bet on it. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at February 07, 2026 11:53 PM (8zz6B) A lot of guys started drive-ins for the express purpose of bringing in some revenue until the property value went up. Knock down the screen, yank out the speaker poles, and grade the lot and you're ready to build. Nowadays that niche is pretty much filled by mini-storage places (most of the storage units in those places are designed to be easy to pick up and move somewhere else). I'd guess what drove the switch wasn't real estate prices per se, but the rise of home video. Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at February 07, 2026 11:56 PM (IG3/x) 321

The best part about drive-in movies was that you could bring in your own food and drink and they couldn't do anything about it.
The second-best thing was that kids usually got in free (at least in my area). There were a lot of kids in my family, and not a lot of money. Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at February 08, 2026 12:02 AM (IG3/x) 333
If you lived in a hot climate, the drive-in was also a good place to kill some time while your house cooled down a bit (only Rich Folks had air conditioning in the time and place I grew up).

Dew point took a dive over the same period, now in the single digits, and bottomed out at -1F or so close to midnight. It got up to nearly 60F on the 6th. It's now 27F. I know two people who quit smoking by vaping, but I also know 5 that just wound up vaping nicotine instead of smoking.
If you want to quit, you have to mix your own, because nobody sells - at least I know of none - anything like a series of premixed liquid with a tapered down ratio of nicotine. Buy the plain liquid and dilute the nicotine liquid a little more each week. That's how I know how it was done. Posted by: buddhaha at February 08, 2026 02:27 AM (pk60q) 408

Posted by: publius ========= It's supposed to be KIDnappers not parent-nappers. But we're in upside down world Posted by: Blonde Morticia's Phone at February 08, 2026 02:34 AM (n7rxJ) 410
If you want to quit, you have to mix your own, because nobody sells - at least I know of none - anything like a series of premixed liquid with a tapered down ratio of nicotine.
Buy the plain liquid and dilute the nicotine liquid a little more each week. That's how I know how it was done. Posted by: buddhaha ---------- I didn't have time to ponder all the fancy equipment they had, LOL! And I don't want to make a major investment-- I just needed my niccy fix NOW and bought a disposable. It works for now. It's an icy/minty thing, because most "tobacco" flavors are nasty tasting. (learned from a previous attempt) Just needed to break the habit of lighting up first. Will work on the nicotine content next. Posted by: JQ at February 08, 2026 02:39 AM (rdVOm) 411
Hey Blondie, I am sipping on a Chivas, come and join me. I hope that all is well with you.

JQ, I would definitely need that icy/minty thing, I used to smoke menthol cigarettes, Kools, when I was in college. I later went non-menthol and have stayed that way ever since.
I am cooking a corned beef tomorrow, snagged one on sale at the local market and it will be the perfect dish for a cold winter day, nice and salty too. Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at February 08, 2026 02:46 AM (0nHVk) 413
Ok Horde, I am off to sleep. If you haven't seen it, the Somali Waltz. is available at Power Line, it is an earworm. Sweet dreams Horde.

A proper celebrity/wealthy person kidnapping goes like this. You snatch the victim. You then take a picture of them tied up and gagged in a chair holding a copy of that day's newspaper. This proves the victim is alive after they went missing.
You then write a note, using cut-and-pasted letters of magazines telling the family, first "No cops or newspapers, or the victim gets it immediately", then instructions to get $x million in small, unmarked bills in a big old bag. Then they are to drive to a phone booth at some particular gas station at precisely such a time, and wait for a call with further instructions. That's how the ball starts rolling with a proper kidnapping for ransom. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at February 08, 2026 02:53 AM (w6EFb) 415
Corned beef sounds delicious!
I used to smoke Salems. Kools were my 2nd choice. Went to non-menthol later in life, as well. Only got into menthols in high school-- kept the bums from taking my smokes, heh! Posted by: JQ at February 08, 2026 02:56 AM (rdVOm) 416

Cigarette bums p!ss me off. There was this guy a work, a new hire, that would bum smokes at break times. OK, we all gave him one now & then, because we knew he hadn't gotten his first paycheck yet and were sympathetic-- we'd all been *broke* before!
Couple weeks later, the dude was still begging for cigs. wtf? He asked me & I said no. Next guy calls out his BS: "Suppose you get a job and buy your own?!" End of bumming, LOL. Posted by: JQ at February 08, 2026 03:07 AM (rdVOm) 418

Horsesh@t & splinters, LOL!
It was a cowboy town-- Marlboro Red was *the thing* and menthols were UNCOOL. So be it. I was uncool already and didn't care. But if you simply said "no" there would be the begging and pleading. Hubby & I were at a rest area, and this guy approached us asking for a cig... no problem, here ya go & have a nice day... He even offered us a dollar, which we declined.

We've all known moochers. I love the line in a song by local band Jared Mees and the Grown Children:
"You say that you quit, but what you mean is that you quit.. buyin'." Yeah. I would sometimes keep a second pack of cheaper cigs, just for that guy. (Don't be that guy.) Posted by: SciVo at February 08, 2026 03:30 AM (Sy6m/) 429

I don't think they even make the ciggies I used to smoke. Merit, sometimes even the light variety. I haven't smoked since the boy arrived, nor would I.
I miss it horribly, particularly when I step on the scale. I probably would weigh about 90 lbs less at this point. But at least, I can breathe. Posted by: tcn in AK at February 08, 2026 03:43 AM (I40wl) 437
I remember 'Merit' smokes. Tried them. They were ok.
Yeah, I don't care if I gain weight. I want to keep breathing! It's been getting too difficult lately-- I'm panting for breath at the top of my staircase. Not good. Posted by: JQ at February 08, 2026 03:46 AM (rdVOm) Processing 0.05, elapsed 0.0647 seconds. |
