All of these have one thing in common: poppy nostalgia. Watching two movies back-to-back seems sort of adorably retro as a concept (we say, as Netflix pops up to ask if we're still awake after episode #6 in a row of Samurai Gourmet).Long but interesting article. An Olive Garden employee died from burn injuries he suffered after thrusting his head into a deep fryer in what police have categorized as a suicide attempt. The harrowing incident occurred Friday afternoon at the Williamsport, Pennsylvania restaurant where the decedent worked as a cook. Police and emergency workers arrived at the restaurant around 4 PM in response to 911 calls about an employee removing his clothes and attempting to harm himself. In audio from the Lycoming County fire and EMS service, a dispatcher is heard saying, "I don't have a lot of details, lot of people screaming, some kind of a burn victim." In a subsequent dispatch, the operator added that, "a male victim went head first into the fryers."

It rides right along the edge of being out of tune...and rides right along the edge of being off the beat...and no matter how many times I listen to him I keep waiting for him to lose the song completely...but he never does! My exciting day was spent prepping a couple of things for tomorrow's festivities. We have invited our neighbor over so that she won’t be alone. Paul helped me mix up some dip ingredients and all of the fixings for meatloaf (it's been ages since I have made that - we'll see if everyone likes it). Just cobbled toge5her some recipes from the internet that had all of the ingredients that sounded good to me 🤣🤣🤣
The chemo regimen they have me on involves low dosage (but not systemic) steroids, so I have more energy than usual, and a bit more of an appetite than I had before, so I am actually cooking for the first time in several years.
But I do get tired sooner than I would like....(and tonight I discovered that parmesan cheese tastes funny for some reason). Thankfully, Paul also did the dishes so that I could sit down and rest - he's such a sweetheart ♥️♥️♥️
Oh, well - at least I am still above ground, right? 😊♥️
We just saw previews for a movie that looks like it will be stupid fun, so we're gonna stay up and watch it 🤣

I'd bring my bike home in college on the plane. Was riding with my brother on a newly paved country road. Feeling good, ridin' downhill fast & looking at lovely black angus in a green pasture.
Went off the shoulder (about 8" deep),tried to lift the front wheel back up. A visor broke my faceplant & wreckage of face as my head bounced back.
Road rash on left arm and leg from the 10' skid sideways. Worried bro felt I was ok because I stood up and cussed loudly.
We rode to a friend's farm. Her father hosed the blood off, gave me a beer, and I rode home in the back of his pick up with the bikes.

I was mostly po'd but very young (21yrs) and healed quickly. Now I would be in traction with skin grafts.
My brother said it looked pretty bad, he'd turned when he heard me yelp in fury before the crash.
I stood up, said S#IT at the top of my lungs and my legs gave out from shock, I guess, and sat back down. Front wheel was bent, etc.
Decades before people wore helmets. If it were not for the visor I was wearing it would have been bad as the brim hit first, then I skidded.
One lane country road with no traffic and I had ridden it many times when it was gravel. I was a mess apparently to not be allowed to sit in the cab of the pick up.

We'd been married almost a year. Woke early to watch in the kitchen during breakfast.
I remember being so excited I hit the '50's fridge with the side of my fist at one point. Major stress and we could hardly believe we won!!! Felt on top of the world winning!
One of those fridges in the ancient rental that had a freezer compartment big enough for two metal ice trays. I'm not sure why I remember this, but I do. We were drinking bloody Mary's so we must have been off from work.
It was a BFD! So exciting!
I doubt we will watch much this time except the skiing and/or support the Americans who love the USA. I will boycott the rest. I am sho' not watching curling.

A lot of guys started drive-ins for the express purpose of bringing in some revenue until the property value went up. Knock down the screen, yank out the speaker poles, and grade the lot and you're ready to build.
Nowadays that niche is pretty much filled by mini-storage places (most of the storage units in those places are designed to be easy to pick up and move somewhere else).
I'd guess what drove the switch wasn't real estate prices per se, but the rise of home video.

From what I understood, Bartyles & James fell under a low-taxed area of alcohol sales, making it profitable. When they changed the tax structure it wasn't profitable anymore, and the producers went to making things like Xima instead, which were taxed lower being a malt beverage

My neighborhood drive-in, and it was just outside our neighborhood, had a play area for kids that would be open until the movie started at deep dusk, with slides and teeter-totters and stuff, to help tire out us kids. Worked like a charm.

I've been to hockey games, but growing up in the Deep South it was no a big deal to me. My husband played hockey as a kid and was a good skater, but said he did not want to get his teeth knocked out and became a long distance runner.
These guys who won were proud American young men. Far different from some of the woke pansies today.
It was fabulous! We beat the dam Russians! Young American men won and they were humiliated on the world stage. For the first time I could remember.

My neighborhood drive-in, and it was just outside our neighborhood, had a play area for kids that would be open until the movie started at deep dusk, with slides and teeter-totters and stuff, to help tire out us kids. Worked like a charm.

Well, not the world stage but the Russia-NHL series back in the late '70s was pretty good. While not a Philthy Phlyer phan, I was more than happy when the Flyers knocked the shit out of the Russians at the Spectrum. (This was toward the end of The Broad Street Bullies Era.) The Russians were so upset at the violence inherent in the game, they left the ice. Negotiations followed. The Flyers stomped the Russians that night, on the scoreboard and in the physicality department. It was beautiful.

There is actually a pretty interesting movie, with curling as the sub-theme, called "Men With Brooms" (2002). It has, in a non-starring role, the late great Leslie Nielsen (hidden by a beard).

They use stones, milled out of solid granite. IIRC, they weigh about 50 pounds. Play and scoring similar to shuffleboard, except two team members have brooms, with which to sweep the ice, partly melting the surface, which can alter the course of a movng stone, making curved shots possible.

Ha...yeah. My guy probably could have played basketball, and did play baseball. Not bulky for football. In HS he began long distance running as his older brother encouraged him for the track team. They competed. He always beat his older brother and he never let him forget it.
At age 40 he was considered an "elite runner" by our MD, who was a friend in FL. In one local 5k he passed the MD and he yelled at my husband, "I am your physician and I demand you slow down!"
I tried to run with him in early years and hated it. I am a swimmer and tennis player. He was not crazy about either sport. We liked to hike and ski, so we found something to do together in our youth.

You're probably mixing up.the memory of the 80s team with the legend if the 60s team. Pure amateurs, many with day jobs, beat the Soviet team (that had laid waste to the NHL earlier that year) in the Gold Medal.game. No helmets, goalies without facemasks... it was a different era. I don't know if it's still there, but there was a giant picture of that team in the Squaw Valley rink. Incidentally, at that time, Olympic hockey was required to be played on an outdoor rink, so the Squaw Valley rink has seating on 3 sides, and the back of the rink is open and faces a steep hillside.

In my opinion that drink needs about 3x the crème de violette than most recipes call for. It's also nice with lavender bitters.

I have no idea what I did the rest of that day, but I remember that early morning out West, anxiety & stress... then happiness of a sport I knew little about. It was fantastic!
I've been to many great college football & basketball games with our sons...and no victory was as sweet as that Olympic hockey game in 1980.
Even when our college football teams won the National Title. Nothing else compares.

I was just looking at the weather station graph for Feb, here. Pressure has been a rollercoaster over. Plunged down to 29.64" on the 6th, and is now back up to 30.25". Dew point took a dive over the same period, now in the single digits, and bottomed out at -1F or so close to midnight. It got up to nearly 60F on the 6th. It's now 27F.
It's supposed to hit 70F on Tuesday.

I didn't have time to ponder all the fancy equipment they had, LOL! And I don't want to make a major investment-- I just needed my niccy fix NOW and bought a disposable. It works for now. It's an icy/minty thing, because most "tobacco" flavors are nasty tasting. (learned from a previous attempt)
Just needed to break the habit of lighting up first. Will work on the nicotine content next.
