The Morning Rant
Warsh said in October 2024 that the central bank has routinely shifted the goalposts for measuring inflation—from average inflation targeting to core inflation ex-housing—and how it conducts policy. “They don’t seem to have a serious theory of inflation that is theoretical and empirical. It is not obvious that they acknowledge what their role is in prices,” Warsh told CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” “I think in a world this dangerous, an economic policy where fiscal policy is irresponsible, the central bank needs to be very clear about its reaction function, be clear about its goals, and not look like it is lurching—that’s what put us in the mess we have.”
"Lurching" is a perfect word. There is no coherent policy...it is simply reactive, and based more on perception and politics than any objective measures.
“Moving markets with rolling Fed incantations is tempting, but unhelpful to the Fed’s deliberations, and ultimately, to its mission,” Warsh said last year. “The central bank should find new comfort in working without applause and without the audience at the edge of its seats.”
Even better! And Mr. Warsh, while you are at it, perhaps you can stomp on the out-of-control spending on the insanely expensive and deeply offensive renovation of the Fed building. Not sure how or where, lots of folks are putting emphasis on bullshit claims in the files. Uncorroborated accusations that came in to the FBI, and went nowhere because they weren't credible.

But this asshole also cut rates to save Biden, and then refused to cut rates even though rates are technically probably still a bit too high because we all hate Trump in DC.

As an aside, Leonbergers are cool-looking dogs. I've seen a few live at dog shows. I'd love to have one, but I don't think they'd do well in the Florida heat and humidity.

And now the govt. have legalized another 500,000 illegals in one fell swoop just to spike the ball in the faces of anybody that doesn't like this state of affairs.

Once interviewed for a research assistant job at the Fed. Cafeteria was roof-top, but nothing terribly posh. Still, sort of didn't like the feel of the place and the whole thing. But that was nothing compared to being around other young people working for the World Bank. A sci fi writer, Christopher Stasheff, based his fiat currency on energy as in kilowatt hours. Not a bad basis as far as energy is life, economics, etc. and a growing economy naturally generates more energy than a moribund one. Hard to devalue a kilowatt hour either.
In a way, crypto is actually a proxy for energy inputs and the capital expenditures on computers to generate it. But, the question as to whether crypto is vulnerable to quantum computing is not answered yet.

The old remedy for an unjust firing of a regulatory bureaucrat was to pay the remainder of the salary and benefits for the term of office, not to order reinstatement. That judicial aggrandizement came later.
Arguably Powell with his cost overruns and apparent dishonesty before Congress can be fired for cause as the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 clearly provides. Same with Lisa Cook. A dishonest central banker cannot be a regulator of banks nor of monetary policy.
And having courts decide what constitutes cause is a major separation of powers issue. Twould be far better to simply provide that a president must give cause publicly in any order firing an executive official. The unjust firing can be remedied by money ordered by the courts rather than interfering with executive power itself.

I know no one cares about Wheel of Time on Prime anymore, since they crapped the bed in season 1. But I re-set my expectations really low and am mildly entertained in season 3.
Anyway, the character Aviendha is supposed to be a tall red head, but is played by a short, play-doh faced actress with black dreadlocks. What's worse is her two companions are both tall redheads, and at least reasonably attractive.

If your making a Greek classical story with primarily Greeks in all the other roles- Why throw in a black woman in a role for an iconic Greek woman?
Make her Circe? Sure, why not? Nothing particularly Greek about her.
Or, make an African based "Odyssey". Yeah, kinda off kilter. But, that works too.
No one said Boo! about Kurosawa's adaptation of MacBeth, "Throne of Blood", which had all Japanese actors. Kurosawa didn't throw a Caucasian or black guy or gal in the mix to placate some meddlesome goofballs.

Spain has a current population of 49 million. It has increased since 2000 from about 40 million. This increase is almost entirely from third world nations. About 19 percent of the population is foreign born. That's does not include their children, which are at least another 10% of the population. And like the rest of the West, the native Spaniards are only making half the babies necessary to maintain current population. And now the govt. have legalized another 500,000 illegals in one fell swoop just to spike the ball in the faces of anybody that doesn't like this state of affairs.

I don't mind the advertising and with movie seats now being reserved, you can pretty much show up just in time, but again, I love the entire movie going experience, which means standing in lines, going to the concessions, getting to your seats, settling in, watching the ads and trailers and taking in the scene.
It's just that there is precious little in the movies to see.

At this point, Native American tribes need to start taking land back that people who own it say is stolen.
They try, after on set of tribal elders sell it to some dumb white farmer and he improves the land to the point it's worth taking so the next set of tribal elders say "All the land on the rez should belong to the tribe, give it back", but the courts always say "You sold it fair and square, if you want it so bad buy it back".
And somehow despite all the casino money, they won't come up with the money to actually do that, "because it's ooooooour land (and never mind that we sold it and apparently can't grok the concept of a 99 year lease)"
In short, only a complete idiot buys land within the bounds of the rez, and I don't care how good the farmland is.
