Yeah, I'm going to stay right here in my insulated, double-glazed, air-conditioned bunker for a week.
You can get an AMD Ryzen 9800X3D, an Asus X870 motherboard, and 32GB of RAM for $939 at Newegg right now - and even get a bonus mouse. (Tom's Hardware)

That's a $480 CPU, a $300 motherboard, and memory that did cost around $100 but suddenly finds itself at $440. And a $125 mouse that isn't worth $125 or it wouldn't be included for free.
Just one small problem: Asus is currently reviewing - though not recalling - all of its 800-series motherboards over a string of failures specifically involving the 9800X3D CPU. (Tom's Hardware)

ASRock has been battling this for months. It's rare, but seems to keep happening.
Oh, and the faster 9850X3D is here. (Notebook Check)

It's only slightly faster, but it's only slightly more expensive. If you were planning on a 9800X3D build - or upgrading an existing system that already has DDR5 RAM - it's not a compelling option but not an awful one either.

Tech News

101 Wife has on news radio. Keeps hearing about ice storms in south and potential major power outage and sure its coming here.

De Queen AR area (and thereabouts) seems to be clobbered the hardest for SPP providers. The nearest to my home location was a few hundred outages a half hour ago with expected time to restore before 10A.

The linemen are on top of their game for this.

Praise God for toxic masculinity in the dark and freezing rain.

108 We're being told this winter storm is "a two day event." For us here in KY, snow later on today, into tonight with a potential spate of sleet/freezing rain Sunday. That's the more concerning part... the ice. And the plummeting temperatures tonight and tomorrow.

Currently, it's barely light outside and overcast. No snow. Yet.

Oh. spelled it out at #92

SPP = Southwest Power Pool.
EROCT = Electric Reliability Council of Texas.

ERCOT, which covers MOST of Texas was in the news due to the embarrassing spectacle of the being less than five minutes from total grid collapse due to ERCOT's dangerously high reliance on wind and the wind mills freezing back in Feb/21

SPP, while is has windmills, still relies more on NatGas and Coal (+ Hydro) and it reaches from Canada down into the Northeastern portion of Texas. East Texas is largely on SPP rather than ERCOT (Tyler is in ERCOT).

I moved out of ERCOT because it was run by retards who didn't even live in Texas or even in the US. TX legislators are also retards and fell for Al Gore's lies and wrecked the grid with Wind/Solar.

Unfortunately, my current issue isn't grid stability, but live in oil and tree country where in the 1930s they didn't really think about sleet and wind when playing cat's cradle with the power lines through the woods.
