132 Well, the artist sure can capture the female form. I have no idea if this is just supposed to an interesting nude or if there is a precautionary attitude about women. Her lovely body and skin tones make the demonic aspects of the wings, her hands and especially her eyes more effective. I looked at some of his other paintings and they are mostly nudes where the women are either threatening or languid and sensual. I can imagine these in a men's club circa 1900.

When I first saw the painting I thought of Frank Frazetta and his Conan book covers. The beautiful demon luring Conan to his death.

The 'Net says "chauve" means "bald," and "souris" is "mouse." So the French call a bat a bald mouse? "Flying mouse" is the literal translation of the German term Fliedermaus, and that makes more sense.
