Trump Objects to Queer Starmer's Giveway of Critical Chagos Islands

The important Indian Ocean base of Diego Garcia is located at these islands.

President Trump has called the U.K.'s decision to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius -- a deal his administration previously supported -- an act of "great stupidity" that further justified his desire for the U.S. to acquire Greenland. One of the islands, Diego Garcia, is the site of a key U.K.-U.S. military base in the Indian Ocean.

"Shockingly, our 'brilliant' NATO Ally, the United Kingdom, is currently planning to give away the Island of Diego Garcia, the site of a vital U.S. Military Base, to Mauritius, and to do so FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER," Mr. Trump said early Tuesday on his own Truth Social platform. "There is no doubt that China and Russia have noticed this act of total weakness. These are International Powers who only recognize STRENGTH, which is why the United States of America, under my leadership, is now, after only one year, respected like never before. The UK giving away extremely important land is an act of GREAT STUPIDITY, and is another in a very long line of National Security reasons why Greenland has to be acquired. Denmark and its European Allies have to DO THE RIGHT THING. Thank you for your attention to this matter. PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP."

Mr. Trump issued his statement as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson, a Republican, was in the U.K. to address the British parliament, where he told lawmakers the U.S. and U.K. had "always been able to work through our differences calmly as friends. We will continue to do that. I want to assure you this morning that that is still the case."

The Chagos Islands were separated from Mauritius, which was then a British colony, in 1965.

The UK paid Mauritius for the islands, but Mauritius is claiming the deal was unfair.

Queer Starmer claims that Trump reversed his previous OK to pressure the UK over Greenland.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer went after President Trump on Wednesday for reversing position on a deal surrounding the Chagos Islands, suggesting the president did so because of tensions over his plan to acquire Greenland.

"I made out my position on Greenland absolutely clear on Monday and a moment ago. President Trump deployed words on Chagos yesterday that were different to his previous words of welcome and support when I met him in the White House," Starmer said in the House of Commons.

"He deployed those words yesterday for the express purpose of putting pressure on me and Britain in relation to my values and principles on the future of Greenland," he added, emphasizing he would not give in.

How unfair can a deal be if you thought it was good enough at time to agree to?

Or is this one of those "we didn't properly appreciate the opportunity for graft at the time so we didn't make the deal then that we would have now, so you owe us more money" things.

32 It's worse,
What I have heard (not paying close attention) is that Mauritius was never culturally close to Chagos, and that the Brits moved the Chagosians to Mauritius as required.

This presents two problems.
1. Why give it to Mauritius, as they have nothing to do with that land.
1. Now that there are native Chagoisians identified, and they are not Mauritiusavians, UK law states that they can not "sell" the land to anyone, but instead have to some how repatriate the Chagoisains (I am not really clear on this bit, I just know that the originally planned deal is now considered a violation of UK law.)

Also, it is important to note that
- Mauritius is totally controlled by China
- The deal would give $7.8 trillion dollars to every Mauritiusavian, (or something like that.)
- And absolutely no MP or Lords were paid by CCP to facilitate this nonsense

39 Diego Garcia is strategically important... but with the advent of aerial refueling and stealth bombers that can fly thousands of miles, is it really necessary?

During the Israel-US - Iran dust up last year we used that base as a distraction. B-2's from Whiteman AFB here in the US were used for that raid. We even moved aircraft off that airbase because Iran had ballistic missile capable of reaching it.

Probably, militarily speaking, not that important anymore.

Chagos is in the middle on nowhere. The only people there were put there by rubber tree plantation owners or something to tap the trees. (or something. They all died of the common cold when outsiders showed up.

But, Mauritius is the nearest land so they figure to give it to them. It would be like finding Fiji, and handing it to Hawaii, and paying them quadrillions for the favor.

59 UK paid Mauritius for the islands. But let's just say their ownership of the island was always highly questionable. Mauritius has an extremely weak claim to the island at all.

NOBODY lived on the island before the Europeans arrived. How do you think it got the name Diego Garcia? The French settled it in 1778, and the French Governor of Mauritius granted Monsieur Dupuit de la Faye the island of Diego Garcia. They abandoned it, and it was settled by the British. The British settlement failed, and the French took over turning it into a leper colony. Britian won it back during the Napoleonic wars. 1814 to 1965 Great Briton administered it as part of Mauritius. To settle any dispute, the UK purchased the Chagos Archipelago, which includes Diego Garcia, from the then self-governing colony of Mauritius for £3 million.

The island was never inhabited or colonized by Mauritius. It was only nominally part of their territory when Britian ruled Mauritius.

There was an SF novel a decade or more ago, about an alternate history where instead of the West dominating the world scene in the modern era,

it was a world dominated by China and the Muslims and how great and peaceful and wealthy the world would've been. And Mother Gaia was all happy and such.

Panama tried to sell out to China, and as it stood in 2024, China effectively controlled both ends of the Canal an in times of war they would have made it impassible to the USA.

Philippines started selling out to China long ago, and for their troubles China claimed territory spitting distance from the Philippine Islands.

Both of these were USA territory and strategic, but China is very aggressive for that very reason. It is very easy to corrupt people into selling out.

103 Diego Garcia is strategically important... but with the advent of aerial refueling and stealth bombers that can fly thousands of miles, is it really necessary?

During the Israel-US - Iran dust up last year we used that base as a distraction. B-2's from Whiteman AFB here in the US were used for that raid. We even moved aircraft off that airbase because Iran had ballistic missile capable of reaching it.

Probably, militarily speaking, not that important anymore.

110 There was a great stage play called The Audience about Queen Lizzy 2 and her audience of prime ministers over the years, speculating what they talked about in those weekly meetings. It was written by a leftist, so of course they made Maggie Thatcher a boorish woman and implied she and the Queen had a catfight going on. But the queen was played by Helen Mirren and she was as glorious in the play as she was in the movie The Queen.

But it makes me wonder, what on earth do Starmer and King Charles even talk about every week?

"What Ho, your majesty! Jolly good show, letting the fate of your people disintegrate while you focus on climate change."

"Why thank you! I'm quite proud of it. And arresting the peons for gardening tools and mean tweets? Pip Pip!"

Or have they been promised Chinese troops to put down the domestic rebellion, like they're doing in Iran?
And will be doing in the UK and Canada?

166 I think the problem is that it DG is useful, so we will keep our base.

But if SHTF, China will attack. That means we have to defend. That means we waste resources defending what was.

This is the Chinese strategy -- Make the cost of defense so high that the USA starts to pull back to our own little island. (North America.)

They *want* fortress America since that gives them free reign over the rest of the world, where they will rape and pillage their way to such great wealth and power that we are irrelevant.

China is unlikely to attack, at least in the short run because,

as I've been saying for a long, long time,

China has decided that- "War Is For Suckaz"(TM).

They have been able to achieve almost everything they want with bribes to those in power in gov't and industry.

Mauritius NEVER "owned" the Chagos Islands. NEVER.

At one time the British Administration treated them as an entity (BIOT). That is the claim. Posted by: El Mariachi - Attorney at Law at January 21, 2026 05:23 PM (vOtXJ)

For that matter, it was never inhabited by anyone before the Europeans came along. Neither was Mauritius. The only victim of the "colonization" of Mauritius was the dodo (turns out that mixing hungry sailors with tasty, turkey-sized flightless pigeons with no inborn fear of humans doesn't work out well for the birds).

One could make some argument for handing over Mauritius to the descendants of the slaves who had been imported there (by France, not Britain), but no such argument applies to Diego Garcia. The French didn't even use it as a slave plantation. Unlike Mauritius, Diego Garcia is not suited for agriculture. The French mostly used it as a dumping ground for lepers.
