In Socialist Grifter Millionaire Paradise of Davos, Gavin Newsom Calls Upon World Leaders to Oppose the United States

Before getting to that: The EU is very bothered about Trump's drive to take Greenland.

Trump has threatened punishing tariffs against the EU for opposing his takeover of Greenland.

The European Union's top official did not hold back in her warnings about President Donald Trump's threat to impose fresh tariffs on countries opposing his push for the U.S. to acquire Greenland, a semiautonomous Danish territory.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called Trump's threats "a mistake" and questioned U.S. trustworthiness, saying that the EU-U.S. trade deal from July had to "mean something."

"Arctic security can only be achieved together. This is why the proposed additional tariffs are a mistake, especially between long-standing allies. The EU and U.S. have agreed to a trade deal last July. And in politics as in business -- a deal is a deal. And when friends shake hands, it must mean something," Von der Leyen said.

...

This woman routinely attempts to impose European anti-speech controls on US citizens by shellacking Elon Musk with fines.

We're not friends.

French President Emmanuel Macron also addressed the issue at Davos, saying the tariffs could force the EU to use its anti-coercion mechanism against the U.S. "for the very first time," The Associated Press reported.

All you do is coerce the US.

The outlet noted that he argued that allied countries should be focused on bringing peace to Ukraine and ending the nearly four-year war with Russia.

Then stop buying Russian oil.

Trump announced on Saturday that starting on Feb. 1, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the U.K., the Netherlands and Finland would face a 10% tariff on all goods imported to the U.S. The rate will then increase to 25% on June 1. The president added that "this tariff will be due and payable until such time as a deal is reached for the complete and total purchase of Greenland."

...

Some European nations recently tried to flex their muscles with a brief troop deployment to Greenland. France, Germany, Sweden and Norway participated in a two-day exercise to bolster the Danish territory's defenses amid Trump's threats. Germany deployed a reconnaissance team of 13 personnel, France sent 15 mountain specialists and Sweden, Norway and Britain sent three, two and one officers, respectively, according to Reuters.

I continue not understanding Trump's fascination with Greenland. But when I hear our ungrateful EU enemies shrieking, my opposition to Trump's takeover decreases.

About that Russian oil the Europeans keep buying while pretending to support the Ukraine:

Scott Bessent wants to know why Europeans claim they're supporting Ukraine while they're arming Russia by buying Russian oil.

Barron Trump
@BarronTNews_

4h

🚨 HOLY CRAP! Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent just went straight at Europe to their faces in Davos.

"Let's be clear. Europe is STILL buying Russian oil. Still. Four years later."

"They are literally financing the war against themselves."

Trump blasted the "foolish fortune-tellers" forever prophesizing climate doom.

Commerce Secretary Harold Luthwick blasts the WEF: "Globalism has failed." He assails the organization for endlessly pushing companies to "off-shore" and "far-shore" all of a country's jobs to foreign nations.

He blasts the EU for pushing for "net zero" climate policies when the entire continent doesn't even produce a single high-capacity battery. He says they're intentionally subjugating themselves to China, which does make such batteries.

Speaking of climate change: The Tech Elites at Davos are no longer talking much about it.

Many are pointing out that the leftwing tech communists used to propagandize endlessly about "climate change."

But their new grift, AI, requires huge amounts of power. So to keep making piles of money, they've all decided, simultaneously, to stop agitating about climate change and start talking up increasing energy production.

DataRepublican (small r)
@DataRepublican

AI requires massive amounts of energy.

The elites find AI useful.

Ergo, the elites abandoned renewables and climate change justice overnight.

All I saw were helicopters, rich folk 1 upping each other, and ads for AI with no purpose. What happened to Climate Change, WEF? Not profitable anymore?

As promised, Gavin Newsom is demanding that foreign countries oppose us and slap tariffs on American-made goods.

You know -- like a patriot.

On the EU tariffs,
I am really disappointed that Trump did not match their VAT.

VAT is an *export subsidy* as well as an import tariff. This is straight up mercantilism and Trump should be addressing that for starters.

If trade was fair between EU and USA, the only thing we would ever import from them would be artisanal cheeses and wine. Maybe some luxury goods made by Chinese in Italy.

Golden Dome and to prevent it from being used as a weapon against the US.

I also think it is to divorce ourselves from Euroland as they were struggling to get us into a shooting war with Russia over Ukraine.

Euroland does the same twostep that China does--Panda face and War face except via Nato and EU faces. So Trump is busy nuking all these multilateral international treaties and organizations that act against US interest (often being stabbed in the back by the EU as much as our adversaries like China or Russia).

Bringing things back to bilateralism means that the results are much more reciprocal than US takes it in the shorts every time.

I love the meme of Trump pretending to be a mullah to go to Greenland. The only thing I understand is a need for protection (I guess Iron Dome like Israel?) and keeping Russia and chy na's paws away from our continent. As well as the rare minerals.

After reading of the eugenics that Denmark did to the Inuits, I don't see why they'd be loyal to them. It was Margaret Sanger stuff, but decades later, in what was done to our Native Americans.

One lady said she could not have children because at some point someone inserted an IUD into her uterus. At another point she had pain (I guess from the IUD) and had her fallopian tubes removed.

They also live in apartments with black mold that are not well insulated and freezing cold. The very few jobs there (fishing) don't pay squat.

39 Greenland is smack dab in the middle of the shortest path between Russia and the United States (over the Arctic), so it's important for any potential missile defense to have control of that plot of land. Yes, Denmark is an ally and has given us carte blanche, but the same could be said of the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean, which Britain let us use. However, this situation has now changed, as Britain turned over the Chagos to Mauritius because of white guilt. As Mauritius is fairly cozy with China, this will be a problem. We don't want that same thing happening much, much closer to home.

He is telling the world that we will never give up control.

"Oh, that's silly, Denmark is an ally. China will never take that land. China will not have influence. Why would anyone think China could make inroads on a strategic piece of land that is historically USA dominated?"

My response: Are you a f-ing idiot?
- UK handing Chagos to Mauritius -- Diego Garcia. We are about to lose access to that.

- Panama Canal -- We built it! but a year ago China controlled both ports so if there was a war, we would be denied access.

- Philippines!! -- They were a colony. They were allies. Then they invited in China and started handing them chunks of territory.

Nothing is settled until the entire world understands that USA is serious and will bomb their asses if we think they are about to turn on us. We have avoided that stance for too long.

Most people can't, or won't understand the strategic implications of a Greenland controlled by Russia or China.

It's been spelled out a zillion times. Some people are just too stupid to understand.

Posted by: Martini Farmer at January 20, 2026 06:12 PM (U2OZr)

95 I think the main concern the current administration has about Greenland relates to China, moreso than Russia. China is leveraging various countries that have claims to the Arctic (and all its resources). Take Norway, for example. China has made a big push to dominate the Norweigan market and actually put troops in Kirkenes. China named themselves a "Near Arctic State" it's a totally made up name by a country with no claims to the Arctic, but telegraphs their intentions. Chinese are, also, infiltrating Slavic energy companies relative to this goal.

China has a habit of ignoring boundaries, international laws and sovereignty. They plan on exploiting the Arctic in any way they can for petroleum, rare minerals, fishing etc. They feel they are entitled.

Greenland offers shipping routes and a base opportunity for these goals. Trump is correct to take contrary measures. Even if they are expensive.

They used and abused the US and refused to revise (even had their flying monkeys in DC and interest groups) the old Cold War understanding. Constant backstabbing in diplomacy, constant reneging on NATO spending, stealing, regulating, and fining US companies to try to prop up their home industries, and tariffing and regulating the hell out of US imports while running trade surpluses for decades.

Frankly I don't care if they go commie or Muzzie but their value as allies to the US is approaching nil.

Lower than nil when they tried to get us to fight directly with Russia or provoke Russia by stealing all the frozen wealth to repay their banks and refill their treasuries.

112 In today’s fast-paced, innovation-driven world, artificial intelligence is no longer a concept of the future — it’s here, and it’s transforming the way we create, communicate, and connect. What’s truly remarkable is how seamlessly AI-generated content now mirrors the nuance, clarity, and authenticity of human expression. At this point, the idea that someone could reliably tell whether a piece of writing was produced by AI or a person feels increasingly outdated. As technology continues to evolve, the real opportunity lies not in questioning the source of the content, but in embracing the possibilities it unlocks for collaboration, efficiency, and scalable impact. Excited to see where this journey takes us. 🚀

I guess he doesn't know the difference among any of these distinctions, or at least assumes you're stupid enough not to.

As far as Trump's interest, I thought it was primarily a three-fold concern: (1) off-setting the Russian/Chinese incursion in the artic; (2) valuable rare earth minerals acquisition; (3) Golden Dome and ballistic submarine staging/detection. It will be interesting how is shakes out.

247 Trumps fascination with Greenland is purely strategic, sir. The EU, with former head banker Mark Carney leading the way, is partnering with(or is blackmailed by) China. Frankly, I think we are watching Trump delegitimize the EU and the UN and is working to form a new association that actually solves problems rather than continue the post-Soviet grift that tried to kill him. I support it 100%.

It will be up to establishment republicans to see if OUR will survives or not as they are the war-grifters.

The Globe and Mail (via a rando twitter link)

military planners are modelling a U.S. invasion from the south, expecting American forces to overcome Canada’s strategic positions on land and at sea within a week and possibly as quickly as two days.

Canada does not have the number of military personnel or the sophisticated equipment needed to fend off a conventional American attack, they said. So, the military envisions unconventional warfare in which small groups of irregular military or armed civilians would resort to ambushes, sabotage, drone warfare or hit-and-run tactics.

The aim of such tactics would be to impose mass casualties on U.S. occupying forces, the official said.

https://tinyurl.com/2sx2s9ks

At this point the happenings began to escalate. Eager to make an epic display of retardation demonstrate resolve and independence in the face of these sudden American ambitions on Danish territory, a variety of European countries announced they would send soldiers to Greenland in a display of “military solidarity” with Denmark. Germany sent a grand total of 13 or 15 soldiers (reports vary) to defend the icy island against the Americans. They departed on a matte grey A400M Atlas military transport with plenty of press on hand for photographs.

343 Here's Trump's calculus:

Greenland was called "Greenland" by the Viking because when they first discovered it during the Medieval Warm Period, the climate there wasn't so bad, and they could grow crops.

Later, things got cold again for a while, and they bailed out because it got too cold.

Trump figures: Either the Global Warming predictions will come true, or they won't.

If they come true, then by snagging Greenland he just acquired a huge amount of prime real estate back when it was undervalued.

If they don't com true, then the climate catastrophe cult will collapse and the US wins the long-term war anyway.

It's a win-win scenario, by betting on both sides.

Now, he'll come back and offer a 100 year lease. The Euros can save a little face while we now can invest knowing regardless of what government may come, we have what we want from Greenland. We can invest in infrastructure for mining, etc. and finalize the missing piece of the Golden Dome.

Also, the current residents can remain subject of the Danish crown which has done so much for them. I assume they're all on the dole, so we won't have that expense. They said they wanted to remain subjects, so go and may God forgive your souls.

Mint is a nice take on Debian. Ubuntu has been pushing the boundaries lately to take on Arch installs with up to the date kernels, etc. If someone wants Ubuntu, go with the LTS versions and wait about six months until installing the latest LTS version after it becomes available. I've used Linux since about 2008-9 for my main internet computers and even using open office and now libre office suite for most needs.

Debian is becoming a much more viable option as well for the DIY sort.

Arch is a good OS but does require some user maintenance to fix issues from being at the cutting edge of kernels. BSD Unix is also seeing a revival lately but not for beginners.

I am a bit irritated for the RAM shortage as I was intending to build a new system to run OS in containers which would let me get rid of some hardware. Prefer at least 64 gig of ram to do that.
