Dogs join cattle, roe deer, red deer, hunting red foxes, red foxes, coyotes and grey wolves as yet another mammal to have a mechanism of "magnetoreception." A Maryland woman has been arrested after being caught on surveillance video throwing a large rock through the front window of a home with a Charlie Kirk flag, just barely missing a child inside. The woman blamed a “raccoon” for her lack of self-control. According to a press release from the Takoma Park Police Department, officers responded to a vandalism report last weekend, where the homeowner reported that a woman approached the house on foot, stood on the sidewalk, and hurled a rock at the front window before leaving a note and fleeing. The story went viral after Libs of TikTok posted the surveillance video and note left by the deranged woman on X. “I accidentally broke your window. There was a racoon involved. I am so sorry,” she wrote. She signed the note “Jamie” and left her phone number. Posted by: Crusader at January 24, 2026 10:19 PM (Cjcf6) 43

I'm awaiting the next GFS model run (and Euro, which is always later relative to GFS) here: https://is.gd/rH6FQl A shout out to the tropicaltidbits.com guy. WHile GFS (Global Forecast System) is your tax dollars at work, and public and free data, the Euroweenie is not so free and public. They've opened it up over the last few years, but still not to the extent of the GFS. You have to pay a YUGE license fee to get the fancy output. The tropicaltibit people get the free data, plus some they pay for, but not much. They basically get a big dump of numbers, and do the rendering themselves. That's a lot of work and effort. Are those "pony kegs" on top? I have no clue, but they look familiar.
Guys would go buy them and we'd put them in ice in our bathtub. Someone brought ice. I had nothing to do with the plan. This is how fancy we were and this was normal for everyone. Two lines formed in our large apt. One for the loo, and one for beer refills, which was the faster of the two. I think now, in my refined style, this would put me off a bit. But back then this is how we did it. I don't recall paying a dime for the beer, but someone did. My roommate and I provided the venue. I also don't recall any food, only beer. I would make a good Dem as I don't recall a lot. There was a huge camping trip at the end of spring semester and my fellow nursing student friend send me photos recently that she took of me and others. The university and our college merged into one party amoeba. I don't recall how I even got there or how I got home, but I was there and grinning and happy in my bikini. I remember brief snaps of diving off a cliff, swimming, etc. I was very good and not dating, but I also don't remember where I slept except for one night with my friends. >> I see its 27 degrees at your place. Perfect temp to get snow.
I'm hoping for sleet to begin with, and the last GFS run showed that before transitioning to freezing rain (ZR in the lingo). We've got a damnable warm nose afoot. Cold air damming jams in a surface wedge of that cold air, but that moist mess from the southwest rams in, goes over the top, and then starts precipitating. So, snow melts in that warm nose, then comes down to the sub-freezing surface layer. If it can refreeze before it hits the ground, you've got sleet. If it doesn't, you got the dreaded ZR. That's like a house in 1944 Berchtesgaden having a mezusah on the doorway and a giant menorah sculpture out front. Unless it's completely changed, it was a Ghetto of the Stoopid. The poor dude was mental. Expect more of this behavior. Posted by: pawn at January 24, 2026 10:24 PM (WXTVZ) A few things- carrying a firearm, and this was just an sig, isn’t a big deal. Also, having one magazine in the gun and an extra really isn’t that bizarre. This is not the argument- the argument is when you are armed, you do not act a fool in front of police officers. You comply and you tell them immediately you are armed, where it is and let them get it. If they were wrong to seize, lawyer it out later because you will be alive to do so. Now, competing with that cold air damming, will be some warm air advection trying to push that cold air out. The models consistently overestimate that, apparently. But, the boys at GSP say this one is different, and that warm advection is "formidable". Insert a bunch of Star Trek style meteorological jargon for the reason. So, I'm pulling for the warm air advection. If that wins, we'll transition to rain. Euroweenie model as been favoring that more then GFS. Heard today from a guy who knows the guy at Buc-ee's in charge of new store builds. A new plan for new stores will position pumps way back away from the store fronts, with the new space between dedicated to parking. The big distance is meant to discourage the pump-parking slobs from leaving their rides at the pump, going into the store for 40 minutes of wandering around, pooping and peeing, checking out merch, picking some, going and finding boyfriend to show him your picked out shit, taking forever to finally decide on the brisket sandwich, then going out front and leaning on the BBQ grilles for sale while you eat all your Buc-ee's garbage. Many many fatties will instead either eat first then gas up, or gas up, get in the car, and move forward to be closer to the front door in a genuine parking place.

The impact of the big snowmageddon in Las Cruces, New Mexico has been remarkably like the average day in Seattle in the winter: gray, wet, and chilly. The good news is I have a pile of pecan firewood outside my door and a fireplace full of it burning with the most beautiful blue orange flames and orange red coals. That fire has removed the chill from the house and has filled it with the lovely scent of pecan tree smoke. To celebrate this blessing I am enjoying a lovely local IPA and a side of local rye whiskey while watching UFC 324 on the 75" TV. Over-priced package with a lousy red-dot sight, gun looked barely used (ditto mags). Now kaput owner not a gun guy. "Minneapolis: URGENT UPDATE: I’ve never experienced anything quite like today in my life. I’ve interacted with the Cartel and have witnessed some crazy things in the desert in ‘24. But what strikes me is how organized these agitators in Minneapolis are. They have spotters everywhere in the city and suburbs, on street corners, even 30 minutes away from downtown. They have people at hotels that work with them and signal to them which made it making it difficult for us to lose our tail once my cover was blown. Usually I lose a tail. Not this time. "We switched locations THREE times. I recorded and posted this while leaving Wayzata, while they were STILL surveilling. We all agreed we must make the threats public ASAP, even if we had people still in the field with the hidden cams." Posted by: Beverly at January 24, 2026 10:54 PM (reMys) 170
News from the "But Muh Rice Bowl!" front -- During an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland, Jasmin Hume, founder of Shiru, a company using AI to develop sustainable alternative food ingredients, and expert speaker said RFK Jr’s food industry reforms of cutting out food dyes and synthetic additives will ultimately hurt the consumer because the food will not have proper nutritional value: “Right now, the food industry is under an unprecedented amount of stress. There are increasing and ever-evolving consumer expectations in terms of the foods that they’re purchasing and prioritizing. In the United States, there’s been a lot of talk recently from Make America Healthy Again and how we need to take a really close look at some compounds, like synthetic additives and dyes, that have been in the food system for many decades now in the United States, maybe not in other countries, that are now coming under scrutiny. It’s really, really difficult to be able to do that level of reformulation and not to mention the regulation that has to happen at the same pace. So if you’re taking all these ingredients out of these food products, what are you going to put in?" I liked the part in Slap Shot where the big fight takes place in the skate around warmup before the game is even close to beginning. The ref is so pissed off he starts screaming at one of the fighters when the National Anthem is playing. The player looks at him and says, shut up, I'm listening to the fucking song.
Posted by: M. Gaga at January 24, 2026 10:44 PM (KiBMU) Watch hightlights of the Montreal-Quebec Good Friday Massacre, a second round playoff game. First fight was at .23 seconds. Wiki: "After several fights, a bench-clearing brawl broke out as the siren sounded to end the second period. Amongst the fourteen altercations at the end of the second period were the Canadiens' Mario Tremblay smashing the nose of the Nordiques' Peter Stastny, and Nordiques' Louis Sleigher knocking Canadiens' Jean Hamel unconscious by sucker-punching him in the eye. Bruce Hood, the referee for the game, sent the teams off the ice without officially ending the second period by assigning penalties for the brawl. After the intermission, with all players from both teams on the ice to warm up for the third period, a second brawl broke out." I watched that game on tv. It was 'Slap Shot'. Posted by: Piper I watched as many angles of that that whole incident. St. Alex started out in the middle of the street, confronting the ICE agents. A few moments later he's on a curb with two women. ICE agents appear to get busy in attempting to arrest the women. At that point, St. Alex appears to insert himself into the arrest by getting in between the women and the ICE agents. It's at this point that St. Alex gets 100% of the ICE agents attention. After that, everything becomes obscured by the mass bodies taking him down. It's impossible to tell if he brandished the weapon or if the agents inadvertently discovered it in the scuffle. All that seems clear is that a weapon was discovered and an ICE Agent yelled Gun! And just like that St. Alex of 9mm joined St. George of Fentanyl and St. Renee of Runaway as Minnesota martyrs. Getting physical on a guy* with a gun is presumptive that you are going for the gun which makes you a lethal threat. *Of course the rule is more solid the the guy with a gun is a cop vs. joe average. Good evening.
** Report for rural Northeast Kansas ** A normal winter. I've kept NotSoThoreau updated on my status. Not too cold. Her place is colder by at least 6 ℉. It will get down to 0℉ tomorrow morning, and stay cold until Monday morning, which is forecast to be -6℉. The forecast snow from the National Weather Service of 1-2 inches is way off. I have about 6-8 inches. It is light and fluffy, and I will drive out without shoveling or getting help from a front-loader. Power has stayed on. I hope and pray all 'Rons have similar good news. We need Stingray to get the comms at the riots. Go for the leaders. Roll up the contacts. At the World Bank protests I attended in the '90s, the leaders were easily spotted.
For the judges that are on the side of the Communist revolutionaries, withdraw their bailiffs. Allow not security to protect them. Give them a letter putting them on a list. Use banking records to find out who is funding them. Finally, send a team to the NGOs funding these protests. Seize their computers, and arrest the leaders. Every judge that tries to release them gets the same treatment. This is out of many possibilities. I really want judges that release criminals that go on to murder or rape new people to be charged as accessories in that crime, and arrested. We hold bartenders and professional engineers to much higher standards than we hold judges. Im about as far from an expert on plumbing as you can get, so hopefully someone here will correct me, but unless it gets warmer at night where he is I would be more inclined to leave the main on and let water drip through the cold faucet. Turning the main off because the hot water isnt working seems likely to freeze at the main instead of between the split off of the main and the hot water as it is now. Most of us have the Constitutional right to own a firearm. Having that right is a starting place. If you choose to exercise that right you also have a responsibility. That responsibility includes knowing exactly what you are carrying, why you are carrying it and the circumstances where you have the right to use it. It's not a fashion accessory. Ideally, if your pipes are in the attic make sure that at the mid point of the runs is the high spot. That way when you 1. turn the water off at the street, 2. turn it of at the house inlet with a drain cock, 3. open all the faucets in the house; all the water will drain out and your pipes will be empty.

So St. Alex of 9 mm had a concealed carry permit. OK. Nothing unusual or problematic about that. Except. He took it to a riot and then got in a fight with law enforcement. At a minimum that sure seems to violate the intent of CCWs which Is for self-defense. Obstructing a law enforcement arrest of a criminal illegal alien and then getting into a fight with about 9 federal law enforcement officers, that kind of doesn't feel like self-defense anymore.

On the topic of cold weather and power outages, Ukraine is seeing a pretty serious case of this combo. Though the power issue has more to do with missiles than weather, of course.
Interestingly the russkis targeted electricity targets in Slovyansk and Kramatorsk, I think for the first time, yesterday. I watched a sort of older hippie on X who talked about all his activism, his 35+ arrests, and he laid it out: You go to a protest to make a point, NOT to rumble with cops. When the cops show up, you go along -- it's your moment of glory. You've probably trespassed or created a nuisance or blocked traffic (not very nice), but you do NOT go there with the intent to get into a physical fight or a gunfight with the cops.

Large RICO or fraud cases aren't simple or quick. Not sure but I think the already-convicted huge fraud case in MN took 2 years, or more. Big Biker gang shootout at a TX Twin Peàks a few years back.
When the cops intervened the the bikers took the perp walk with no resistance. Most ultimately walked because cops rolled up everyone to sort it out later. Posted by: Itinerant Alley Butcher at January 25, 2026 12:54 AM (/lPRQ) That case had a fascinating ending; there really should be a movie about it. The bikers said that the police made all the invitations to the various groups, and the police units were all pre-positioned, and that the police started shooting first to get everyone to unholster their weapons. Sounds far fetched, right? Except that at the first trial, the first guy tried was found innocent because the PD refused to provide records he asked for. Then a new DA took office, gave all the cases a look, and suddenly dropped all 100+ cases with the agreement “let’s none of us ever say anything about this unfortunate incident again.” Well over 100 arrests. No one convicted of anything. All official records remain sealed. Posted by: Tom Servo at January 25, 2026 01:11 AM (IUuBi) 513
