HPI (a measure of how much power is being dumped) is a measly 12 GW. Back in May of 2024 when it lit up down here, HPI was well over 100GW.

By comparison, while the measurements didn't exist back then, The Carrington Event probably hit 500GW -- could be as high as 1 TW.

The flesh of sea-fowl is generally too rancid to find much favour with fastidious palates. Sailors indeed eat the livers and hearts of the penguins, which are exceedingly palatable, but the black flesh of the body is rank and oily, and has rather a perfumed taste. Some voyagers, however, tell us, that eaten in ragouts, they are good as that made from a hare.

96 Is it normal for eyeglass temples tips, the part behind your ears, to burrow a hole into your head? This isn't normal right?

For a few months now I've noticed two new dents in my head, like a quarter inch deep or more. I honestly figured that's an old age thing. When you get old you get new head-holes. Sure, ok. Didn't hurt really. Just kind of odd.

Well today I finally put 2 and 2 together and that's where my piece of crap uber expensive glasses push into my noggin. They are making holes. In my head. New holes.

Around here, a couple of the counties use what they call AmbuBus which is a multi-patient transport bus to help stranded motorists in large pileups. Drivers with disabled vehicles are moved to safer locations like Convention Centers or churches as part of the county's Emergency Operations Plan. Since we have had multiple I40 closures due to shitty driving on snow this year already, the bus is getting quite a workout.

When you get to be 29, you have a decent handle on winter driving, but the idiots around you are the real threat. Even if you hold it together, some jackass can still slam into you.

I always give generous allowances in front, and will tap the brake often to keep jerkwads off my tail. You can see them get pissed and pass me, and then I laugh and say "See you in the ditch soon." Happens quite often.

I've seen two pileups up close. The first one was in front of me, I knew the stretch of highway and was tapping the brakes, clearing my tail, and easing down my speed when it happened and cars started bouncing all over the place. I was unscathed, the cars behind me had room to stop (also I was forcing them to slow down).

The other one was a pickup truck acting immortal losing it, hitting the guardrail and doing a donut right on the interstate and I just held it steady and eased down, passing right by the carnage. Crazy. I cancel and stay home these days.

240 Subzero temps makes one careful about such things. It ain’t so bad, but it would be if one were sick. A small bookbag will carry all sorts of good stuff. Flashlight, headlamp, extra batteries. Bic lighter, candles, firestarter, matches. Smokes if ya got ‘em. Sunglasses, small first aid.

Toys for kids, warm clothes, books & games to keep occupied. These days probably re-chargeable USB devices and backup batts. I’ve had lots of camp stoves, some that run on gas or diesel, but I always wanted to try the Sierra Zip stove, runs on pine cones, twigs, leaf litter etc with a small battery operated fan blower to get it hot.

I guess they work great.

Had one like that up here a few years back. One kid was going a bit too fast on a sheet of ice. About 50 cars piled up behind her. I was crawling to work in the other direction thinking, wow...sucks to be you guys.

Once got stopped for three hours on I-75 going home from work. It sucked pretty bad, but at least it was stopped dead and not stop and go for three hours in a manual transmission.

250 For the MST3K experts-

Do any of you know the title of the movie that included a scene with an obnoxious army guy using some sort of secret camera/spy camera . . . and one of the robots repeatedly screaming "would somebody please kill him?"

251 If I kept a go bag in my car some crack head would bust my windows out to steal it.

252 If you don't have TP, just wipe your butt with snow. That will cause your asshole to go dormant for several days.

Seriously thinking about trying https://drinkopenwater.com/

It's stored in aluminum bottles. I can taste the plastic after a bottle of water gas sit in the Truck for two months.

255 And tires. Tires are so good on paved surfaces that it's easy to forget about lost traction...

What are these "paved surfaces" of which you speak?

256 Yeah, those propane cartridge stoves are what all the kids use. Coleman fuel is practically extinct now, and approaching $16 to $20 a gallon now, if you can find it.
