Obviously the solution is to find a finish carpenter who knows how to steam bend wood, and bend the hardwood floor to match the curve of the oriental rug.

[Seriously, that is a very old rug that I inherited. Hand made, and very nice...and large!]

we were cleaning out the church somewhat and we ran across a cool old baby chair in the nursery that probably hasn't seen a baby in twenty years.

It had a label from a company up in Wisconsin that folded in about 1950 or so. It was a company that exclusively made chairs using some kind of wood local to the factory. It became one of the largest chair manufacturing companies in the US and their method included steaming the wood to bend it.

A carpenter in town had the right machine to steam a piece of the existing wood to get it to wrap correctly around the tray.

37 Here's some first world problems for ya....
We have around 6 inches of snow and it's still coming down. It's ten degrees outside. The boy spawn cleared my walkway and porch. The snow is dry, powdery so it isn't packing down but its windy so we're getting drifts. A county truck went through around 8 this morning but nothing since. I don't know whether to drag my garbage bin out to the road or not because who knows if the company trucks will get here or not.
Hubbymayhem is stuck in a weather shutdown situation in some Hooterville in Kentucky. Hopefully he will be back on the road tomorrow since he's supposed to be off for six days starting Tuesday. I'm having a tooth pulled on Tuesday so a fun six days with Hubbymayhem is going to be..... limited.

That happened to us as well. They had a phone message that said they were closed for trash pickup that day and the next due to ice and snow. Sure enough here they came and I got my can to the street just as they were pulling up. They had no idea they weren't supposed to be there.

I recall one winter when I was sitting at a control panel, trying to troubleshoot an HVAC system on a large-ish office building. Suddenly, the temperature in the ducts started plummeting. I realized I had used an override command to force the outside air dampers all the way open, and was now pumping 20F air into the building. Fortunately, I caught it and fixed it before any damage was done.

86 My FWP is the HVAC guy who installed my humidifier last year used a saddle valve. I knew it was a problem the second I saw it, but put off hiring a plumber to fix it. I can do most plumbing myself but don’t braze copper.

So, of course, it started leaking. Some water ran down from the second story. Doesn’t look like it damaged the ceiling. It mostly ran down the HVAC duct.

And of course this happened in a winter storm so I can’t run to Lowes to get a replacement until at least tomorrow.

Hollywood Fun Fact:

David Lynch was asked to direct The Empire Strikes Back by Lucas his own self.

Lynch was interested if he could do it his way. But, uninterested in just following Lucas ideas and orders on how things should be done. So, he declined the job.

Later, Lynch directed DUNE so maybe that gives you an idea of how Lynch's Star Wars would've looked.

Unfortunately, for Lynch the studio did the final edit which chopped up and shortened the movie terribly.

I'd love to see the Director's Edit, buuuuut I guess that can never happen now.

Epic ice storm. We kept power, but trees down everywhere. Streets impassable. We also got snow. Me and my brother and our cousins had a BLAST. Our house was at the bottom of a hill in a cul de sac so we were sliding down the hill on anything and everything we could find. We even dated each other to try to ride bikes down the ice! Gently take the slack out of the rug.
When at the point that there is no wrinkle but no tension spritz a fine mist where the wrinkles were. Later you may want to add a modest amount of tension. Mist at your discretion.

If the rug continues to bow away from the pole use waxed, linen carpet thread making several loops through the carpet (spaced and individual - think shower curtain ring type spacing) with a slip knot over the pole. That way you can slowly apply tension where necessary till the carpet is even with the pole.

That's where I am. NE suburb. It's pretty miserable here. My town has its own electric company and I've been watching their Facebook page. They've gone from the thousands without power down to around 500. They're working hard and it looks like the local businesses are seeing that the linemen are fed.

We have a bird -- a Junco, I think -- squatting in our garage. We'll host it for a night, but tomorrow it must go join its fellows. Only Juncos and one male Cardinal at our bird feeders so far.

Crossing my fingers that my power stays on. My son, who's in the next town over from me, lost his for a little while this morning but it's back on now. He's got a lot of trees on his property. So far only one birch tree is down but he said his neighbors have lost quite a few.

I feel for the electric company workers out in this mess fixing downed power lines.

That's what we call a trade-off. You can shovel the snow while it's still relatively light and not saturated with rain (risk factor, icy). Or you can wait and give yourself a hernia, corronary, and soreness for a full week, but not risk a slip.

I've reached the age where I always go with the former. And, I throw cat litter (unused) on any resulting ice.
