75 I like Renoir's works. Beyond the Impressionistic technique they have a casual feel, not highly posed. Almost like a snap shot more than a formal photo session. The mother is relaxed and the children, with their falling stockings, look natural. If you enlarge the image the brush strokes and color schemes become obvious and, for my taste, more impressive. In some ways it looks more like Van Gogh than Monet to my uneducated eye.

Of course, with the dog, it is high art.

One surprise was how far into the 20th century Renoir and Monet lived. I always assumed they passed away in the late 1800s.

89 AI sez: Historically, young boys and girls were dressed identically from the 16th to early 20th centuries, regardless of gender, until they were about 4 to 7 years old.

The early 20th century part made me think of the early, silent-era Our Gang fims, which weren't even all that early 20th C (early to mid 20s) when the original little "toddler terrors" Allen "Farina" Hoskins and John "Jackie" Condon were portrayed as androgynous, sometimes referred to as boys and sometimes girls, with long hair and androgynous clothing. Once they hit around 5 years old, they were portrayed strictly as boys.

A beloved former Team USA skater was gunned down in a Missouri Starbucks drive-thru allegedly during an armed robbery by a maniac with a long rap sheet who was wanted for two similar shootings days earlier. Gabrielle Linehan, 28, was inside her car at the coffee hotspot in when Keith Lamon Brown allegedly held her at gunpoint before opening fire just after 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Brown was wanted for two armed robberies that took place days before Linehan’s murder — and has a criminal history that dates back to the mid-1980s

Al Gore
@algore
The Trump Administration is once again trying to deny science and reality – this time, by throwing out the well-established research connecting the climate crisis to public health.

While the Trump Administration can try to ignore the climate crisis, it’s painfully clear that the climate crisis will not ignore us. Last summer, the US experienced a dozen once-in-1,000-year floods in the span of just three days. In Texas, one of those flooding events killed at least 135 people, including 37 children at summer camp.

And the media is repeating this BS dutifully, hoping that people that want to see some sports can be worked up into a panic. They just wont give it up. And I was even thinking about watching some skiing this weekend but now reconsidering.

I was told over 20 years ago there would be no skiing by this time due to global warming. We went last year in Colorado in April and they were skiing there in some places until early May, just like every other year and planning the same this year. Weird. It's as if the climate just won't submit to the experts.

192 186 Not uncommon in that era for boys to wear what we think of as dresses. Boys were generally breeched around 7 or 8. You will note that the British princes dont wear long pants til around 12, although they certainly weren't wearing dresses prior to that. But short pants, not long.

Auguste Renoir

Madame Georges Charpentier & Her Children
No Hopes, No Fears byKate Suddes, Substack, Mar 20, 2025

In part, "Their tour spent time in front of a Renoir commissioned by Madame Charpentier. It depicts her, her two children and the family dog. At this point in his career, Renoir’s work had been rejected for years by various salons. He was hesitant to try again with this piece but at the urging of friends submitted it for judging. Renoir feared it would be “skied” or placed at the highest position on the wall as they commonly did with work that was less desired. It was accepted, in part, because of Charpentier’s large social influence. She ensured not only its acceptance, but a position of prominence. She was right, as it ultimately changed the course of his life and he became the most popular painter of his time."

Interesting history of a beautiful painting.

225 Anheuser-Busch has announced it will shut down its Fairfield brewery in February 2026, ending more than 50 years of operations and putting 238 workers out of a job as production moves elsewhere. The company calls it a “restructuring,” but for many Californians, it’s yet another example of businesses deciding they simply can’t afford to stay.

Critics point to California’s hostile business environment, high taxes, excessive regulations, and costly energy mandates, as major factors driving companies away. Even local officials have acknowledged that the state’s policies are making it harder to keep jobs and investment in California.

Once known as the land of opportunity, California is increasingly becoming a place where employers leave and working families pay the price. For many, this closure is a reminder that political ideology and overregulation have real consequences, and it’s everyday workers who suffer most.

277 There does seem to be a youth fixation with these trannies. Before BC, the Nashville and Minneapolis shooters both went back to shoot much younger people. A desire to stay young forever leads to a hatred of actual youth? I don't know, much like psychiatrists today.

Posted by: gp at February 13, 2026 10:44 AM (N8ZBc)

The elegant and delightful Mrs naturalfake wanted to see "Melania", so off we went to the movies.

I had no interest in it but I really couldn't say no after dragging her to the turfiest that was "Iron Lung".

Anywho-

I actually enjoyed it. As a guy, I never really thought about all the stuff that goes on behind the scenes making the dinners, and White House and the Inauguration look so good.

All that requires someone to organize all that, etc, etc and that was Melania.

I definitely recommend it for the Ladies. And possibly the morons depending on your interest level.

I think "Melania" also explains indirectly why the Biden White House, etc always looked like the combination of a dog's breakfast and a hobo carnival.

Dr Fishnets brought her sense of style to those proceedings.
