Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Sunday Overnight Open Thread - January 11, 2026 [Doof]![]() Dad's too drunk to drive. The good news - he found a sober driver. The bad news - it was his 12 year old son! Too Drunk to Drive, Father Asks 12-Year-Old Son to Drive Family Home On the evening of January 2nd, while conducting breathalyzer tests on motorists as part of the traditional BOB campaign meant to combat drunk driving in Belgium, police in the commune of Duffel noticed something very peculiar. A car that was approaching their checkpoint seemed to do so at a snail’s pace, finally stopping dozens of meters before reaching them. As they approached the vehicle, traffic police officers immediately noticed that the person in the driver’s seat seemed unusually short and young. Their initial impressions were confirmed when they reached the driver’s window. It was a young boy, no more than 12 years old. Next to the child was his father, who nonchalantly admitted that he had asked the boy to drive home because he had had too much to drink. Not ideal by any means. Especially when you find out this additional detail. Sitting in the backseat of the car were the boy’s mother and two young siblings, all of whom seemed ok with the situation. Interestingly, the mother had a valid driver’s license herself, but somehow thought it was a good idea to let her pre-teen son drive the whole family home at night.Check out the whole thing. Actually, I'll save you the time. And, in case you’re wondering how the family got home that night, the boy’s mother took his place behind the wheel and did what she was supposed to do in the first place.
Moar stuff Morons will understand!

I wonder if Duffel is a farming community. Here in the States, a minor can drive farm equipment on the farm. No DL necessary. And, in some states, it is even legal for those minors to drive short distances on the road. Like when the public road cuts through the farmer's land and they have to use the public road to get from one part of their land to another.

From the comments to someone else's performance:
"This is such a haunting melody and marvelously performed. As for the sadness in this song: Pavel Chesnokov wrote this hymn shortly before the 1917 Communist Revolution in Russia. Immediately afterwards, the communist government banned the production of sacred music and forced religious composers such as Chesnokov to compose purely secular music. In 1931, the communist government dynamited the Cathedral of Christ the Savior (whose last choir master was Chesnokov), an event that so traumatized him that he stopped writing music all together. In 1944, Pavel Chesnokov would die of starvation while standing in a bread line, 30 years denied the Eucharist and having never heard his own hymn sung. Knowing all this, every time i listen to this song, it brings me to tears." Posted by: Piercello at January 11, 2026 10:11 PM (NRGJj) 36

At one time I could have worn those red jeans, Piper. Not anything else with all the feathers, etc, and wild colors. In my prime I dressed hippie chic, great blouses with jeans, or maxi dresses. Boho is what it's now called. I dressed to please myself, and not like everyone else.
While it took me decades to realize mean jealousy on my exBF's part (I am that oblivious, seriously), she once told me to "never wear red, it makes you look slutty." I could not have looked slutty at the time if I tried. Red is a power color and you wear it knowing people will look at you. I wore red anyway, even when she told me not to. Because I like red and don't care if anyone looks at me. By a freak of nature I got a subscription for Vogue free years ago and nearly died at the "fashion." Provide an air umbrella to protect the protesters. Establish safe have corridors to get supplies they need, and attack the hell out of any regime forces trying to move in on them

I went out on the day after Christmas around 1994 because all the other three family members had flu and were bed-bound and mostly sleeping. I felt great and went out in 12" snowfall here in Currituck County, NC, headed to Kitty Hawk and Nags Head. I was in my 71 Beetle and there was absolutely no one out at all. Did donuts in big parking lots, then went to the beach. Filled (2) 5 gallon buckets with whelk shells brought in by the storm. It was cold enough to freeze seawater and the sands was in big frozen chunks about 5" thick like brownies. Every house, fencepost, sand fence had 3" of ice on the North East Side. It was some of the best fun I ever had and I was completely alone. Had to stop every 10-12 miles to kick the ice/snow out of the fender wells. It was something you rarely experience living near the beach.

Posted by: four seasons at January 11, 2026 10:53 PM (3ek7K) I think you live close to me. Same here. It has been awful. Mountains have 1/4 of what is normal. And that's our water for the summer. I was bummed out for weeks after Thanksgiving but snapped out of it for Christmas. My husband said we've had winters like this before, you have amnesia. I guess I was too busy studying and working i the late '70's to remember. I moved here to have seasons, after 30yrs in Florida. I pray for a very wet rest of the winter and to Easter. Flowers still bloom if it snows, as you know. I pray for snow every day or anytime I look out the windows. We have some, but not enough to make me happy. First wave has to be all remaining air defenses and next wave as many ballistic missiles sites as possible. One Atlantic Deer Cowry I found around Thanksgiving is on my bedside table. In nursing school a few of us students took a trip to Baha...Kino Bay, Mexico. Found great shells there. Now I would be kidnapped or murdered by cartels. Sundial shells, augurs, a black murex, etc. After a long winter and studying it was paradise, the sunshine and gold glitter in the sand. Still have the shells I collected there. I want to return to Sanibel/Captiva Island someday as I love shells. Now into rocks. This is the car he courted me in (vs a sportscar of an anesthesiologist who fancied me...I saw his wandering eye & he was only separated & I said no). This car was driven like it had 4-wheel drive over deserts and mountains camping. White with an aqua hood from a previous wreck. Rusted coat hanger for an antenna. By the time he sold it there was a rusty hole in the back floor. He made $50 on the sale. We were crazy and happy and had a lot of fun in that car. Bought a used Toyota station wagon prior to first son's hatching as we needed seatbelts. I did take his photo in that car before the sale. I admit when he drove up in it for our first date I thought, "Oh, boy. Wut is that?" On the front porch of an old rental house studying & had no idea what car he had. He thought I was smiling because of love. Ha! That came much later! Posted by: ChristyBlinkyTheGreat at January 11, 2026 11:50 PM (WONhk) 264

Then the Ayatollahs took over - not only did they abandon all maintenance, they began cutting canals for stupid reasons, and wrecking parts of the system for no reason at all. One well known Iranian engineer and ecologist went public with this 5 years ago, telling everyone there would be a disaster if they didn’t work to correct this immediately. Posted by: Orson ----- Yahbut... They dyed the damned things red, probably with one of the carcinogenic reds. It was to cover up the fact that a ripe pistachio is slightly green colored, and "eveyone" assumes green=unripe. When Khomeini took over, pistachios disappeared from the US, because all of the pistachios here were imported from Iran (and red). After a couple of years, it became obvious that things vis-a-vis Iran weren't going back to "normal", so California nut orchards planted pistachio trees. It took 5-6 years but we finally had real 'murrican pistachios. I don't think the FDA allows them to be dyed. Posted by: buddhaha at January 12, 2026 12:18 AM (4YokX) 282

At least that's what I remember from a naturalist's talk in Yosemite, talking about the local NA diet. Posted by: buddhaha at January 12, 2026 01:46 AM (4YokX) 329

Wonder what the week ahead will bring.
Only one way to find out. Speaking of the future, this https://youtu.be/VvCng7-za1Y is, as the saying goes, like watching a train wreck. G'nite y'all. Posted by: mindful webworker - No have nightmares at January 12, 2026 01:56 AM (z2cM0) 331

But... that flat area is six to seven thousand feet above sea level. My house shows at 6020' by the USGS topo map. Although the Sunrise Ski area about 20 MI from my place (on the White Mtn Apache Res) is at 9200' We're NNE of Phoenix. When it comes to high fashion, Carolina Herrera spring/summer 2026. Much closer to home, the drab, regional, unisex Communist workers' look will expand & reign. High fashion models aren't modeling T&A and bright white teeth. They are walking clothes hangers so the viewer concentrates on the garments & their presentation.

So much of "high fashion" looks simply ridiculous to me.
*shrugs* But I'm a redneck in flyover country, so who cares what I think? LOL. Posted by: JQ at January 12, 2026 03:01 AM (rdVOm) 337
Meet Neville Ray Singham: https://is.gd/6kWSIJ He's a billionaire funding the pro-Maduro protests. Fucker is an American tech billionaire, now based in Shanghai. He's a Maoist, and threw in with the Chicom state propaganda apparatus. Now, why is he still a US citizen, and how can he move all that money into here to agitate?
