Mr. Hockey's Bridge - Beauty, Eh!

Gorgeous Bridge for Walking and Biking Between US and Canada Set to Open in 2026 – Allows Drivers, Too

doof-Gordie-Howe-Bridge.jpg

20 years in the making, the Gordie Howe International Bridge is set to open in early 2026, providing the first new link between the US and Canada in many years.

The impressive bridge with its graceful bending approaches is reminiscent of the signature ambidexterity of its namesake Howe, often considered the most complete hockey player to ever live, who could shoot both left and right-handed.

The bridge also enters a very narrow company of riverine crossing points that are open to cyclists and pedestrians.

“People didn’t want us to lose a unique opportunity to design a new international crossing without considering the incorporation of a multiuse path for pedestrians and cyclists,” said Heather Grondin, chief relations officer for the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

Linking the cities of Windsor, Ontario, with Detroit, GNN last reported on the bridge in 2024, when the span was missing exactly the length of a regulation NHL hockey rink—pertinent.

Hopefully there's a plaque or something on the bridge commemorating the unofficial "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" - a goal, an assist, and a fight!

Sorry fellas - I read this, so now you have to also!

Man Inserts Live Leech into His Bladder, Suffers Excruciating Pain

A Chinese man required surgery to have a live leech removed from his bladder, after he had inserted it through the urethra as a traditional remedy.

A 23-year-old man from Zhengzhou, China’s Henan Province, had to endure excruciating pain after falling for a traditional remedy he found online and inserting a 5-cm-long live leech into his bladder. It’s unclear how the young, misguided man came across this bizarre folk remedy, but what we do know is that he was so convinced of its “miraculous effects” that he went out of his way to find and buy a live leech.

No, I do not have any images for this. You're welcome!

How about a palate cleanser instead?

98 ChatGPT nailed it:

Six years ago from today (January 8, 2026) is calendar year 2020. Major widely regarded “bad” events in 2020 included:

* COVID-19 pandemic and global lockdowns
WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11, 2020; it triggered mass mortality, healthcare disruption, and broad shutdowns worldwide. ([World Health Organization][1])

* Global economic crash and recession
International institutions projected (and later recorded) a sharp global contraction in 2020 tied to the pandemic and containment measures. ([IMF][2])

* Oil market shock (WTI went negative)
On April 20, 2020, the front-month WTI crude oil futures contract settled below $0, reflecting extreme dislocation in demand and storage. ([Congress.gov][3])

* George Floyd killing and ensuing unrest
George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020; protests and civil unrest spread across the U.S. and internationally. ([HISTORY][4])

* Beirut port explosion (Lebanon)
On August 4, 2020, a massive ammonium nitrate explosion devastated Beirut, causing large-scale casualties and displacement. ([Encyclopedia Britannica][5])

etc etc

We are at a tipping point. A whole lot of energy and money has been spent trying to avoid change world wide and not the sort of change the left believes in. Venezuela falling means Iran is on the brink, if Iran goes, that means Cuba is under even more pressure to fold up, and that puts pressure on both Russia and China.

Ditto for the Danes threatening to kick the US out of NATO because of Greenland.

Then you have the possible implosion of the Democrat party that has engaged in widespread thievery, voter fraud, trying to keep illegal criminals in the US, and many were on the take from cartels and Venezuela among other places.

Bessent is paralyzing Congress with the claim that easily over 600 billion bucks of fraud has been identified. Rubio just put the kibosh on US membership in 66 international organization which means more redundant federal employees to be laid off, no more sinecures for elites to put their family.

172 Army FM 21-76 survival manual has a couple interesting field expedients for someone truly lost in the sticks. Not really practical because ordinarily what they discovered in practice, you either get picked up or rescued right away, or captured right away. Living off the land, escape and evasion for months at a time, it just doesn’t happen. Not very often.

Anyway, “Maggot Therapy” is an actual thing, because fly larvae or maggots only eat diseased tissue. If you have a wound that is infected, the idea is to expose it to flies for a day. Cover the wound, and let the maggots do their thing. Clean the wound out when bright red blood appears. Fun, eh?

If you think you have a tapeworm, eat the contents of 1 or 2 Cigarettes. You probably won’t want a cigarette again for a while, but it will shock the tapeworm or kill it.

Adminstration already has fallbacks in law. Tariffs are the one thing that Presidents have always had the power to levy. There is also the possibility that Trump agreements with all these other nations about tariff levels make the whole dispute moot for most countries that signed executive agreements.

President is allowed wide latitude in such matters regardless of what Congress thinks.

Congress itself has covered itself in disgrace and a lot of the fraud is going to be traced right back to the Congress critters in office and their illegal financing of their campaigns.

200 And this announcement is going to hit the Derp State hard,
"Yesterday, President Trump and Marco Rubio announced the U.S. withdrawal from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Today, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent makes the official notification to the UN.

The notification is important because the 1992 UNFCCC was ratified by the U.S. Senate 34 years ago, making it one of the first UniParty climate change pacts supported by the ¹DC business model.

According to the terms of the treaty, withdrawal from the UNFCCC requires an official notification to the United Nations, and the dissolution takes effect one year later.'" CTH

Once the treaty is dead in the US, it cannot be revived by a new president absent a whole new 2/3rds of the Senate ratifying it all over again.

That removes a whole lot of ability to issue carbon taxes, carbon credit trading, etc. as the justification is now dead for the US.

He's been using the IEEPA (International Emergency Economic Powers Act) for tariffing because it's the easiest. He can change tariffs several times a day if he wants. The problem is, the IEEPA doesn't specifically say anything about tariffing as an emergency economic power of the Presiident, but it's kind of implied. But if the ability to tariff under the IEEPA isn't actually there, he's got other laws he can use, just not so flexibly.

I don't think so. Cutting their throat if they do electorally. They might stay silent or seated but the Dems won't be able to get much public support in a SOTU from the GOPe types. GOPe is caught with their balls in a vise by the Don.

The big resistance in the Ryan years was driven by the Chamber of Commerce types but they overplayed their hand in Trump's first term. Lately, Chamber of Commerce has been really quiet as Mitch, their champion was demoted and heading out to pasture. And the Don governs like a Democrat by punishing political opposition this time because his cabinet is behind him.

I don't have fake anything. I wish I did have something other than an underwire at times, but that's life. I still have eyelashes people think are fake and that's it.

My late brother would be thrilled to hear I still have big lips, as he gave me pure de hell about them in our youth. He knew between that, telling me I had a pig nose and not to flair my nostrils at him that war was coming. We brawled til he got stronger than me.

I do highlight my blonde hair and may do it forever. Otherwise, can be ready in 10min flat if in a hurry, and watch the bumps if I am applying mascara in a speeding car.

I honestly think it may come out since Trump has already made agreements with most countries, that the Court may punt and call those challenges moot but rollback tariffs where the US does not have an agreement.

I really should go back and read the legislative history of teh act in question but those are frankly boring as hell and some justices ignore them anyway (Scalia for example).

Regardless of caliber or size or what people say, the one that you are comfortable with is the best one.

337 We mentioned last thread that Cuba is suddenly making conciliatory noises to the US for the first time in over 60 years.

From all I can find, it’s because Cuba has maybe 20 days worth of gas and diesel supplies left on the island, and no more coming in now that Trump has shut the Venezuelan connection down.

After that, Cuba’s army is either going to have to walk or take bicycles to anywhere they want to fight.

Funny, was just thinking today about the only mobile systems the Soviets had back then. Just the SS-20, but that was an IRBM or MRBM. I completely ceased following almost all Russian military developments not long after the collapse, a solid decision, but I think they developed some mobile ICBMs much more recently.

They used an Oreshnik on Lvov tonight. Probably a gas storage facility. Possibly kinetic payloads, like the first one, based on the video of the impacts. Oreshnik I think is mobile and resembles the SS-20 (but all their vehicles look similar so no surprise).

371 Speaking of ignition, I'd get regular briefings on Soviet ICBM goings-on out at the place that runs all foreign policy (for every country), of course was behind every assassination since 1700, and probably even controls the Earth's rotation.

It was a funny one. An SS-18 (Soviet designation RS-20) had blowed up real good during launch. They were cold-launched, I think (popped up first, like SLBMs), judging by the look of the crater, which was impressive. A small drawback of liquid fuel rockets. But their power was a must for Soviet systems that didn't have the accuracy and therefore used big boom-booms to achieve damage expectancy.

Our own Titan IIs would occasionally do the same thing. I remember just a few years earlier, in a different (non-guvamint) job at a place that did regular global missile databooks, a wag changed the Titan II range in a draft report to something like "800 yards" after one blew up at the Arkansas base, the payload stuck in the ground, cartoon-style, that distance from the silo.

Someone the other night mentioned Russia's Satan-II missile as some possible ultimate weapon. I read up on it, and don't know if it's even operational yet -- they had some boom-booms. Anyway, I didn't think it was that big of deal. But I learned something I didn't know.

Nuclear weapons, missiles, by treaty, aren't allowed to go on actual orbital trajectories. This is the "no weapons in space" treaty. All ICBMs have to be sub-orbital "ballistic" trajectories. Well, they're technically highly elliptical orbits, but they intersect the ground before they complete anything close to one loop around.

The Satan-II is supposedly "FOBS" capable, meaning Fractional Orbit Bombardment System. That's a loophole, which we agreed to, in the interpretation of the treaties. It's sort of silly. You can put something in an actual orbital trajectory, but as long you deorbit before it completes one loop, it's okay.

Speaking of Mars, today is Mars solar conjunction, just a few days after Venus on Jan 6. Exact moment will be 6:35AM EST this morning. Due to not being in straight line (Mars doesn't lie on the ecliptic exactly), moment angular distance is closest to the Sun will be about an hour before. LASCO can see this:

https://is.gd/rnuCZd

C2 shows Venus, the brightest dot moving to the left. Mars is the dimmer dot just below Venus' saturation smear line. In C3, you can see Mercury just whipping into frame from the right.

By the time you leave the dealer it is $5200 unless you are in LA, then it is $6500 I have heard. They are expensive little bikes without a doubt. But for us that own them, think they are greatest bike on the planet. I am planning on taking some 2 to 4 day backroad trips when it warms up bit; the 8500' mountain pass it going to be a hoot. Cops had responded to something somewhere and the "Princess and the Frog" was playing in the background. AI picked up on that, thought it was real, and put in the report.

Yowser. That could cause the Mexican president to start missing visa card payments. Or get assassinated. Diplomacy and law enforcement initiatives have been tried for 50 years with exactly zero results. Using the military is a high risk move and could go off the rails in a hurry but we seem to have limited effective options.

Next morning, as we prepared to go to work, hubby said "We have a new president." (Yeah, I thought. Of course, because obastard was ineligible, otherwise it'd be 4 more years of *his* sh!t) and figured it was The Witch coming at us now.

"Trump won."

I went down on my knees, right there on our kitchen floor that morning, and thanked God out loud for delivering us!

We joked with one another and enjoyed sweet memories and we all just got along. I can't ask for anything better than that.

I wish the same for everybody, if it is politics that are driving us all apart well then leave them out of family gatherings by decree.
