Two Venezuela-Linked "Dark Fleet" Ships Change Their Registrations Mid-Cruise to Russian In the Belief That This Will Protect Them from Trump;
But Trump Gives No Effs and Seizes Them

Russia actually sent an attack sub to protect one of the terrorist oil smuggling ships. Plus it suddenly hoisted a Russian flag and declared itself a Russian ship. Russia was part of this, because they approved the re-flagging of the ship without any of the normal steps required.

They thought Trump would be a-scared to seize a Russian-flagged terror ship.

WRONG!

Oh, and then they seized another one.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Wednesday that the U.S. seized two oil tankers linked to Venezuela.

"In two predawn operations today, the Coast Guard conducted back-to-back meticulously coordinated boarding of two 'ghost fleet' tanker ships--one in the North Atlantic Sea and one in international waters near the Caribbean. Both vessels--the Motor Tanker Bella I and the Motor Taker [sic] Sophia--were either last docked in Venezuela or en route to it," Noem posted on X.

"Under President Trump's bold and visionary leadership, US Coast Guard tactical teams worked closely with its counterparts at the Departments of War, Department of Justice and State and used their specialized expertise to conduct these operations and conduct two safe, effective boardings within hours of each other," she continued.

"One of these tankers, Motor Tanker Bella I, has been trying to evade the Coast Guard for weeks, even changing its flag and painting a new name on the hull while being pursued, in a desperate and failed attempt to escape justice. The heroic crew of the USCGC Munro pursued this vessel across the high seas and through treacherous storms--keeping diligent watch, and protecting our country with the determination and patriotism that make Americans proud. These brave men and women deserve our nation's thanks for their selfless devotion to duty."

...

The vessel was one of a number of sanctioned oil tankers operating near Venezuela that recently changed their flags to Russia.

Russia has dispatched a submarine and several warships to escort a shadow-fleet tanker that the United States attempted to seize off the coast of Venezuela and is now pursuing in the Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The tanker Bella 1 spent more than two weeks trying to bypass the U.S. blockade on Venezuela but failed to dock and load cargo. In December, the vessel's crew repelled a U.S. attempt to board the ship and then sailed into the Atlantic Ocean.

It is now being pursued in international waters by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The tanker has since re-registered as Russian, been renamed Marinera, and the crew painted a Russian flag on the hull.

According to U.S. sources, Russia then asked Washington to stop pursuing what it now claims is a Russian vessel. On Tuesday, Russia's Foreign Ministry said it was following the situation around the tanker "with concern."

The ship is currently sailing about 300 miles south of Iceland toward the North Sea. A Russian submarine and other naval assets are moving in to support it.

RUSSIAN AGENT Donald Trump is going rogue like Ethan Hunt, yo!

Bu-bu-but Russia has shopping carts with refundable coin payment slots and Vladimir Putin is Super Socially Conservative you guys.

Meanwhile, Tucker Carlson's other allied nation, Iran, continues to burn.

Make no mistake: By taking out Maduro and crippling Venezuela's ability to ferry terrorist-funding Iranian oil and send oil to prop up their Cuban benefactors, Trump has taken major steps to destabilize and overthrow the (I know I shouldn't use this word but I can't help it) Axis of Evil.

And Tucker Carlson and his crew of goosestepping loonies want to pull an Obama and bail them all out!

Surge of Economic Pain Pushes Iranians to the Streets

High inflation and a currency collapse have squeezed Iranians' budgets, challenging the country's leaders.

Protesters took to the streets of the capital, Tehran, and other cities in Iran on Monday to decry surging inflation and the collapse of the national currency, which have thrown markets into chaos and punched holes in family budgets.

The currency plunged to a record low this past weekend against the U.S. dollar and the annual inflation rate rose to 42.2 percent in December.

Amid the turmoil, the head of Iran's central bank, Mohammad Reza Farzin, resigned on Monday, pending the president's acceptance, local news media reported. A former economy minister, Abdolnaser Hemmati, was set to replace him.

The economic turmoil poses a new challenge for Iran's leaders as they seek to maintain control of their country of 92 million people while recovering from attacks on its nuclear facilities in June by Israel and the United States and a campaign of "maximum pressure" from the Trump administration aimed at securing a new agreement about Iran's nuclear program.

...

Experts attribute Iran's deepening economic pain to a host of factors from poor management to policies that keep the country's economy closed. The stepped-up efforts by the Trump administration to limit Iran's oil sales to foreign countries and the war with Israel in June, during which the government tapped Iranian banks to cover its costs, have also contributed to the worsening economy.

...

The proposed 2026 budget showed the government's dilemma, reflecting a substantial decrease in oil revenue and an increased reliance on tax revenue.

On Monday, the Parliament rejected the proposed budget, the semiofficial Tasnim News Agency reported.

...

The currency collapse has been painful for ordinary Iranians, who have watched the value of their salaries and savings drop while prices for goods and services skyrocketed.

Omid, a 42-year-old sales manager in Tehran, said the value of his monthly income has dropped to the equivalent of $200 per month from $300 in just two months, giving him anxiety.

Via John Sexton, who also rounds up videos of the street protests.

Below, in Germany (I think), a white woman shows up to counter-protest Iranians cheering on the anti-Mullah protests.

As someone observed: White leftist women always make every single thing about themselves and their own bullshit and the thousands of evil snakes wriggling around in their heads.

That was the most stupid thing the russians could do sending a sub to escort an oil tanker. Not only is the sub tied down to the slow tanker it most likely was tracked by the US Navy every mile it sailed. They knew where that sub was at and most likely isolated it from the tanker it was escorting.

49 ace I have been conviced that your criticisms of Tucker is valid. There is a thing as right and wrong, and when there is a platform as big and powerful as Tucker's, there is a certain responsibility with what he has on his platform and what is put out on the platform to the world, and that is important. I
t is necessary to police platforms for thought because of the danger from the power of new media like podcasts that goes beyond any tacit social acceptance of the right of voicing dangerous or objectionable opinions. This is especially important for opinion that might be taken up by credulous or emotional thinkers. This is not a freedom of speech question, it is a question of safeguarding the politics from fools.

They are ghost tankers under sanctions.

They aren't really Russian, they're smugglers who'll change ship names, registrations, GPS locator beacons, and everything else to get the cargo to port and get paid.

The Russians can end all these problems next week by sitting down and signing on the dotted line along with Z & Ukraine.

They are the ones sailing in dangerous waters, obviously.

Russia will huff and puff and bitch and then do nothing. As we would do if the situation were reversed.

82 Over at Insty, there are tweets that note these "tankers" didn't have any cargo but:
1) originated from Iran,
2) were desperate to dock in Venezuela,
3) Russia really, really, really did not want us to see what was on board, and, biggest,
4) the UK lifted its recent ban on sharing intelligence for this--and participated in the seizure.

The Navy and Coast Guard are enforcing the sanctions / blockade which were placed on specific ships - including these two - as is part of their job.

And just because she isn't full of crude doesn't mean she's empty. Not that it matters since they were subject to seizure, full or not.

Posted by: I used to have a different nic at January 07, 2026 06:01 PM (ExV1e)

170 But the only thing that would get them seized, is if they were carrying sanctioned oil. If they were running empty, there would be no reason to stop them. Or at least no reason to confiscate them. No, that whole ref flagging in the middle of a cruise is highly suspicious.

It's funny how the people screaming "But muh international law!" don't actually know any of it. Maduro was not lawfully elected, and therefore had no sovereign immunity nor was he an actual head of state, but a usurper who unlawfully held power, violating lots of international conventions in the process. That's why we arrested him.

The "shadow fleets" likewise have been allowed to do their thing simply because no one wanted to deal with the hassle of taking them down, but now Trump can sweep the seas and there's not a damn thing Russia can do from a legal perspective.

What would a US Billionaire do if the US Navy sunk one of his oil Tankers...

I'd wager this is not owned by the Russian Government, but one of the many oligarchs... who was trying to save his ship from being seized.

Posted by: Romeo13 at January 07, 2026 05:39 PM (mP0Kj)

It wasn't really a Russian ship. What Trump has put a spotlight on in recent weeks is that there is a "dark fleet" of cargo ships and tankers that sail around the world, carrying contraband cargo for cash, and they change their names and countries of registration monthly, if they register at all. They've been slipping through all the supposed regulations on international shipping, and they are well paid by China, Russia, Iran, and up til now Venezuela (as well as anyone else who wants to deal in contraband) Trump is starting to shut down this dark fleet, ship by ship.

The Bella, supposedly registered to Russia was registered to Panama just a couple weeks ago. But Panama disavowed knowing anything about them.

Minnesota is an underrated state. Striking natural beauty that rivals anything in the USA. Sadly, it’s been overrun with toxic cockroaches and doesn’t have the population numbers or industry to survive the invasion. Big, rich states can take in 200k Somalis and it’s a rounding error. For states like MN, it’s a death sentence.

Don't use Opera for secure shit like banking. Opera was bought from Skandis (who went on to make and operate Vivaldi) by a Chicom company about 5-6 years back. Both Opera and Vivaldi are shells with enhancements, like Brave is, on top of de googled Chrome.

Just want the plain jane, Chromium is the open source version of Chrome.

Firefox is the only other major browser with its own codebase and they are announcing a pivot to making their browser AI compliant plus some woke bullshit.

For old computers, Supermium is a degoogled Chrome for old Windows computers that have no upgrade path for their browsers. Brave requires a minimum of Windows 10 now for example.

Lots of old weird browsers on different code bases if you want to go to Linux. Plus most of the malware exploits don't work well on Linux

All Crapple browsers are skins on top of a Safari codebase from Apple.

We'll never know the real answer, Dominion, electronic voting, mail in and drop off ballots have erased election truths. We'll never know what the people actually thought.

400 PSA - moved from Brave to Opera browser. It pleases me. Also Duck Duck Go has turned into an idiot child.

my windows 10 mini-tower I use for my TV bricked this morning due to an overnight update...it wanted my Windows password. That box has to be at least ten years old and has a lot of software in it from my working days. It has no password I know of.

Been using Brave since I bought it. The update demanded Edge.

I am Linux Mint. I can't spell. Brave spellcheck is so bad I caught it. Yeah, I don't trust anything that's ever been touched by Google or Microsoft.
I do business on IOS.

405 I'd settle for some 1969 gas prices. I'd love to pull up to a full service pump like my dad did and say give me $2.75 worth of gas knowing that that would fill the car up.

But, you'll need to settle for 1969 wages. I remember them.
