After Reducing the Value of the Star Wars IP Somewhat Lower Than the Value of the Stretch Armstrong IP, Kaffeine Kennedy Might Finally Be Fired?

Well, they say she might "retire." But she has reportedly refused to retire previously because she was determined to only go out after a big success, and she's a horrible ditzy incompetent, so that's just never going to happen.

I don't think it matters any longer. Not to be like the millionth person to say this, but Star Wars is dead. Even people like me who used to talk about Star Wars being dead don't talk about it any longer, because there is no point telling people that a corpse that has been dead for so long that it doesn't even stink any longer is dead.

Everyone knows.

But... Doomcock was right? Eventually?

Puck's Matthew Belloni reports today (paywall, sorry) that 2026 will finally be Kennedy's last as president of Lucasfilm. "In the next week or two, Disney will finally confirm what we've all known for months: Kathleen Kennedy is indeed stepping down as Lucasfilm president, and Dave Filoni, currently the chief creative officer of the Star Wars unit, will be elevated into the top job."

He's a ball-less wonder who is as woke as she is and almost as untalented. If you think he's going to be a game-changer, he gave us Ashoka.

God bless you!

Dave Filoni looks at Rion Johnson and shivers at how toxically masculine Rion Johnson is.

Ten years ago, I would have jumped up and down at the news that Filoni was taking over, but after squandering The Mandalorian and completely wasting Rosario Dawson in whatever the hell Ahsoka was supposed to be, these days I'm less excited.

But back to Kennedy.

She took over Lucasfilm after Disney bought the company from founder George Lucas in 2012, and her performance can be described in just six words: She couldn't make money on Star Wars.

Emphasis added. Because HOLY SHI'ITE.

I ran the numbers last year, and this is what I found: "My back-of-the-envelope math indicates that Disney has spent $7.35 billion acquiring and producing Star Wars entertainment and generated $6.41 billion in revenues we can see." Disney+ streaming revenues can't be attributed to any particular show or property, but except for the little-watched Andor and the first two seasons of Mando, Disney's live-action Star Wars TV shows haven't scored well with critics or audiences.

And you can forget about all that fabulous toy revenue. Nine-year-old boys aren't exactly clamoring for Rose Tico or Admiral Holdo action figures.

"If Disney has realized an actual profit on its $4.05 billion Lucasfilm investment, I'd be shocked," I concluded then, and that was before we learned that Kennedy spent nearly a quarter of a billion dollars (!!!) producing and marketing The Acolyte for Disney+.

Steven Green has more, including a run-down of all the cancelled projects and fired directors we saw under the chaotic, emotional rule of Kaffeine Kennedy.

Coincidentally, while I was laid up with a spasming back over the weekend, I watched this video which did not subvert my expectations, because I had been on this train since 2015: It's not that the Star Wars sequels went bad from The Last Jedi. It's not that Rion Johnson took the promising start of The Force Awakens and threw it away for the sake of Subverting Your Expectations and Social Identity Politics.

No, The Force Awakens sucked right out of the gate.

In short--it sucked. Bigly.

As I related in the last thread, I just had ChatGPT create a sprite sheet of Star Trek characters for a little game I'm going to make in Godot.

I even had it generate that green chick that Kirk banged.

All they had to was adapt the Star Wars: New Jedi Order storyline and they could be printing money today. It was already set up to be adaptable to both small and large screen storytelling. Or they could have MCU'd the storyline into an epic, decade-long, 20 movie franchise.

The original characters were even just about the right age (maybe a little older) to pass the torch to the next generation (Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin Solo and Ben Skywalker) in New Jedi Order.

Idiots.

Han *did* have an awesome backstory going back literally to 78, they used none of it and declared it all legends and it was written by writers who were writing not engaging in psychiatric scream therapy.

Solo lost and bargained away all his morals down to one "slavery is bad" and the growth of him back to the character that became a rebel was grown back from that one flicker of morals.

119 Never heard of Doomcock, but the name reminds of the latest "fad" I just learned about -- a new genre of porn called "babecock."

In babecock, people take an image of a beautiful girl, and then a totally unrelated image of an erect penis, and then stick them together side-by-side in the same jpg. Then they post the combo___ online in the social media platform or porn forum of their choice.

The purpose of babecock is controversial. Is it intended to brainwash heterosexual males into associating sexual arousal (in the form of the girl) with erect penises (the "...cock" part of the image), thereby turning them gay? Is it instead aimed at some weird subset of bisexuals who want to see naked girls and erect penises simultaneously? Or it is just for people who can't decide? The debate rages.

Considering how Lucas kept calling Jar-Jar the most important character in the prequels, I suspect that the old fan theory of "Jar-Jar is a secret Sith Lord" was actually going through Lucas' mind, until he saw how poorly he was received in the first prequel. Maybe if Lucas wasn't such a racist cockbite, he might have made Jar-Jar less of a Stepin Fetchit embarrassment, which would have made the Sith Lord reveal truly frightening.

Imagine if they hired actually good storytellers? Imagine if they could flesh out real characters and tell a not-retarded story and coax the general timewasting audience into feeling like "yeah, this little girl totally saved the universe by being awesome!"

Instead, they just make all their shit a boring call and response exercise, where they say out loud "this girl saved the universe by being awesome" and you are just expected to drone out "yes this girl blah blah drool fart" whatever.

It's just plain lazy is what it is. You got an axe to grind. Fine. You know you suck at it. Hire someone who isn't. But arrogance and magical thinking forbid. So you get laughable crap that doesn't even rise to the aesthetic threshold of actual Brutalism. It's just.... sludge.

They did a decent job with Palpatine in the Pelagius book, essentially Lucas fucked up when he made the force space cooties to a point but even that could have been made to work....they had a real opportunity to show the flaws in the Jedi order and the Sith with that interlocking story and the epiphany by Obi-Wan mourning Qui-Gon after Anakin's fall that the Jedi seem to have a cycle too.

I am kicking around an idea of my own for a pantheon I may work out some book thread since I do not go out to the field until; March.

Oh yeah...Disney will ALWAYS make money.

There is almost no possible way they go out of business. No matter how bad they fail, that "dumb people market" will be there to throw billions of dollars at them.

There literally is no mechanism by which Disney could go bankrupt.

But everyone who has a functioning brain stem is done with Disney.

They will never be a part of culture anymore.

When she got here she was bubbling over with Marxist nonsense, and within 6 months she was bootlegging American consumer goods into Vietnam.

Then she just bailed on the whole thing and stayed here forever. Vietnamese people suck ass at socialism.

173 Star Wars at first was dazzling. Yes, it was a simple plot, but I loved the echoes of printed SF (the sand planet = Dune, for instance), and the ships and other settings looked *lived in*. The fighter ships were scarred and battered. Luke and his uncle and aunt were just barely making a living in the desert. And it was the most visually realistic and stunning SF film made to that time. You were right there with the fighter ships as they swooped over the Death Star.

The second film made the legend grow. There was more story to be told -- the Empire had not been defeated -- and there was the darker edge to the story; and the stunning surprise about Vader.

The third one began really well with fantastic derring-do. And then it all began to fail. *Another* Death Star? We've seen this before. The Ewoks were too cute (though I found them kind of disturbing with those dark lips). And everything wrapped up a bit too neatly.

Still there were loads of stories left to tell. And it all came crashing down.

Well it was supposed to be a crowd-pleaser, and it was.

I also think that people claiming Jedi is weak or bad, need to do a reality check. We know what bad endings do to a franchise. Even if you don't personally like Jedi, it nailed the landing. This is not even debatable.

Compare it to The Matrix or Game of Thrones, or just about any modern epic. It stuck the landing and for that reason MUST be considered the best of the films.

When Death Star II blew up, people cheered. When do you see that these days?

Is it intended to brainwash heterosexual males into associating sexual arousal (in the form of the girl) with erect penises (the "...cock" part of the image), thereby turning them gay? Fore Awakens was an un-original ripoff of the original and had the idiotic killing off of Han Solo, but Last Jedi is in a class of DOGSHIT all its own.

Watching SW in 1977, seeing the incredible model work, I realized they could do Ringworld and make it believable. The aliens then would have been a problem; but they can CGI them now. Imagine Idris Elba's voice for the kzin Speaker to Animals, for instance.

But yes, they probably would ruin the concepts.

I agree, but I knew Force Awakens was bot going to be good early on when my eyes were doing barrel rolls early on with the rip-off Vader character having a meltdown and Rey going full Mary Sue Girl Boss in her first 20 minutes on screen.

"I know how to run without you holding my hand!"

Oh it's going to be that kinda movie.

They retitled it "The Slaver Weapon," recast the puppeteer as Spock the vegetarian, and had Sulu and Uhura as the human man and woman. And it worked. In only some 22 minutes, it had the sense of wonder, details about kzin culture and attitudes, logical deduction from both Spock and Sulu, and a slam-bang climax. One of the very best Trek episodes ever.

Niven himself has said there's been multiple stabs at it in the fifty-five years since the novel appeared. He's not a young man any more; I wonder if he'll ever get to see one of his stories adapted to a film, good or not. His own script for Trek Animated showed that, like Larry McMurtry, he can adapt his stuff. Can anyone else?

Sure, but screenwriting is entirely different than novel writing. 2nd, H-wood hates, hates, hates allowing the original author to have a hand in the screenplay. Don't know if it's because of the screenwriters guild or just a general prejudice.

273 If H'wood execs had any sense, they would film some of Larry Niven's Known Space stories. "The Soft Weapon" (adapted by LN himself as a Trek Animated in '73) would make a great adventure. Ringworld would blow audiences away, as would "The Borderland of Sol" and "A Relic of the Empire."

But the powers out there have no idea what good storytelling is, how to create suspense, etc. And they no longer understand quick smart dialog.
Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at January 06, 2026 06:15 PM (wzUl9)

Nivens major issue as a writer was developing traps for his worldbuilding for himself. Modern authors know how to do that already. They just can't write.

277 Likely credit goes to Jon Favreau, but Dave Filoni in The Mandalorian erased the sequel trilogy.
I don't remember which Youtuber or blogger I first read this(apologies if it was Ace.)

Basic points are-
Snoke was produced based on cloning tech and the use of Baby Yoda.
In Rebels, Ashoka Tano dies fighting Darth Vader as the Sith Temple collapses.
Later in Rebels, Ezra Bridger goes to the Vale of the Force, basically that thing The Flash was using to roll back time,
and pulls Ashoka Tano out of the temple in the past and brings her to the present.

Ashoka Tano's appearance in The Mandalorian led to rescuing Baby Yoda from Gus Fring.

Ashoka's existence means that Ezra's pulling of Ashoka is in this timeline which has changed and erased the timeline where Baby Yoda is in the hands of the remnants of the Empire..

278 "her performance can be described in just six words: She couldn't make money on Star Wars."

Also two lines later.

"I ran the numbers"

Uh. . . by using the colon to separate the line, you are expressing what you are describing. So you are saying that the six words you would use to describe her performance, insert colon to indicate the description, and then you.. . .use 7 words.

and IMMEDIATE after, you are listing your acumen with numbers, while not being able to count, or being shit at english.
