I don't know what this means -- it's possible his wife runs a perfectly legit daycare -- but I am interested.


$190 million? That cannot be right.

Can it? Please tell me it cannot be right.

Update: Commenters have convinced me this is a badly-written sentence. The $190 per year is the amount of federal taxpayer dollars sent to Maryland for its entire network of fraudulent daycares, not just Michael Byrd's wife's fraudulent daycare.

Well I don't know if this one is fraudulent. Going by the statistics, it's about 70% likely to be fraudulent and used as a front for funding Al Shabaab.

The state of MD just announced plans to tear down both spans of the (Chesapeake) Bay Bridge and replace them both. Initial estimated cost is $18 Billion. That will be dwarfed as time goes on.

You can police this, it is a matter of making sure that money is being handed out to actual daycares. That requires both rules on how funds are disbursed, and governments that can take time out from stuffing money in their own pockets to actually enforce the rules.

Thanks, Whig. I did ask about AS, but they did mri and was clear spondylolisthesis so thankfully don’t have that autoimmune condition. It was just a weird coincidence. Tomorrow is the surgery, keyhole on both sides of my spine and hopefully quicker recovery. They get you walking right after the outpatient surgery.

I started on Simponi Aria and it was just OK, wears off two weeks before next infusion, so I switched to Cimzia and I am a new person (but with a bad back), hardly any PsA symptoms. I didn’t think I would ever get to this level of recovery. It’s a shot every two weeks, so probably maintains a higher level of drug in my system than the every two months kind.

I don't disagree with that, but I find I get called a stinking druggy libertarian when I push that point of view.
However, there are actual state agencies that handle these funds for the Feds, and they have rules. That they refuse to follow them for whatever reason isn't that there is no procedure, there is just unwillingness for whatever reason to actually follow the law.

That said, a search for “go to DC” in December 2020 and January 2021 came up with only supportive posts pre-January 7.

With a search for “it's an op” and “it’s an op” on those months I found only “it's an open thread” and other words that begin with “op” pre-January 7, at least related to January 6. There were several references to COVID and masking calling them an op.

Obviously, those searches won’t find other ways of saying that it’s an op or recommending avoiding DC.

Well, there is that very strange (suspicious?) connection between Venezuela and those ratfucks at Dominion (the electronic voting machines). There's also some Dominion insiders (whistleblowers?) who claim that, yes, Venezuelans at Dominion frauded up Biden's vote totals.

Remember how sophisticated their obfuscation of the running totals was -- They did not transmit totals, but % totals for each candidate and total votes with very low resolution. This led to many claiming that votes were added in "10,000 vote" groups (or whatever, it varied by state). That was a pure artifact (many still have not figured that out and I still see video of people claiming the votes were jiggered in bunches)

This was very clever way to hide what was really going on.

I think the floating point BS was another way to hide reality and make it difficult to audit.

One potential legitimate (though not good) reason: laziness.

If I store it all as real/floating-point numbers, I don't have to convert them from integer to real later when I want to do rollup calculations (percent of vote, etc.), and a simple counter/tabulator will work regardless.

That's a much easier issue to solve.

I also think "running out of ballots" is at least partly because nobody can predict who votes early and who votes election day because it's all a jump ball. One variable would make it easier to predict.

I never really heard of places "running out of ballots" until a few years ago.

Way back when, usually when places ran out of ballots it was because they had more people voting than registered. almost always in heavily black districts

As I posted over at Insty, I do not want there to be low level inspectors who have the ability to shut down a business. That's obviously a draw to Karens and people who will demand kickbacks. Insectors should just observe and report.

And then at the level where they do enforcement, I do not want them to have a huge budget and lots of manpower (likely actually womanpower). I want them focused on the places where there is actual child abuse going on.

Maybe there should be third-party auditors who follow up on a random sample, like the IRS. In fact, maybe that's something to put some of those 80,000 new IRS agents on. Detail them to whatever agency pays for day cares. It's not like there aren't some red flags as to where they should start looking for the fraud.

I only delved deeply into the TRS-80 Microsoft BASICs. The Model I (Z80) had integers as well as various (two, I think) kinds of floating point. IIRC, Apple 2's had two different BASICs. The default one in the ROM was all floating-point, but there was a separate "Integer BASIC" that you could switch to, if you needed faster processing (but no decimals).

I would wager 95%+ of voter fraud is a result of early voting.

Usually the "running out of ballots" is more of a small, isolated issue where they get to cast provisional ballots.

I'm not even sure I've seen a verified case where someone stood in line and was then told they couldn't vote because they had no more ballots. At least not in a general election.

With that in mind, I don't think a single penny of taxpayer money should be applied towards daycare.

Just like I don't think the taxpayer should be on the hook for student loans taken out by parties refusing to consider their long term obligations (and whether they can afford) of a loan.

The counter argument is always, "things cost so much more than they used to. And, as a result, both parents need to work, requiring daycare." Fine, pay for daycare from your own two working parent homes. BUT, don't depend on someone who was not involved in your decision making process to bail you out because you can't adjust your finances properly. Or, and this is monumental....don't have kids if you can't afford them.

My ex-wife, early in her career, investigated worker's comp fraud for a federal agency, which they were happy to have her do because people on worker's comp get charged back to the agency payroll budget. She found some obvious cases of fraud, things like people out in their boats fishing when they were supposed to be bedridden. They were likely never prosecuted, but the worker's comp got cut off.

LOL, I bet you could.

My favorite one from my ex was the guy who was burned while siphoning gasoline from a government vehicle and he held a cigarette lighter up over the gas tank to see how much was in it. He claimed a workplace injury.

It turns out that same guy had been Article 15'ed in Vietnam for firing a LAW backward into the compound during a Vietcong attack. If you know how LAWs work, that's almost impossible to do. But obviously not completely impossible.

The Smartmatic machines where solving differential equations to arrive at their predetermined final results in a way that would not look like cheating as the “votes” were tallied. That’s why they used floating point numbers. There were also direct manually inserted cheats like switching the votes in a certain precinct from Biden to Trump and vice versa, as needed. This showed up on CNN on election night as a certain block of votes one way were suddenly switched to go the other way in real time. Astute observers noticed this, but their observations were dismissed.
