During Trump's first inauguration when protestors set fire to the national cathedral I remember the FNM argued that using tear gas to disperse them was a violation of their right to protest.
Then come J6 2020 apparently shooting unarmed protestors is perfectly ok.... Posted by: 18-1 at January 06, 2026 02:09 PM (sKqQm) 5

It's amusing to see dedicated leftists come to the realization that no, people outside of DC do not care about 1/6.
It was 5 years ago. It was right after the BLM riots which the media and the Democrat Party excused as fine (and were also Trump's fault, depending on the point of the narrative being pushed). The country got worse after Democrats took power on 1/20/20. So, yeah...the people have prioritized border enforcement today over the 5 year old scared feelings of AOC from across the street of the Capitol building. No one is more broken up about that that Mitch McConnell, trust me. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, barreling through the action thrills with Wolfgang Petersen at January 06, 2026 02:10 PM (GBKbO) 7

If the million protestors on J6 had wanted to overthrow the government they would have brought their guns. And they would have succeeded, at least in the short term.
The only reason we didn't end up with an "insurrection government" on J7 is those protestors didn't want one which quashes the narrative. Posted by: 18-1 at January 06, 2026 02:12 PM (sKqQm) Posted by: Anna Puma at January 06, 2026 02:12 PM (2GVsD) 18

incidentally, the language of the original tweet reporting the byrds' daycare, while a bit unclear, is only reporting that the entire state of maryland receives, in aggregate, $190M of federal disbursements for daycare.
it seems chaya has mistaken that juxtaposition for reports that the byrds' home-daycare is taxpayer funded. per other contradictory reporting, their operation received no federal or state monies. if so (and it's currently hard to know what to believe given how byzantine disbursement flows have become), the only arguably nefarious thing about this operation is that it is "unaccredited"...and i, for one, am unwilling to extend the necessary faith to governmental or institutional accreditation to care about that point. for the record, i think officer byrd, by his public presentation, is very likely to be a reprehensible person. but tehre has been no confirmation that his wife is using the taxpayer to support her home business. Jamie Raskin: Jan. 6 Never Ended
Tuesday is a heavy day for the police officers who fought to put down the bloody insurrection at the Capitol five years ago. It is also a solemn day for the F.B.I. agents and federal prosecutors who worked the largest criminal investigation in American history to bring the members of the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers and all the other police-attacking rioters to justice. ...we are still caught up in a struggle between forces who are willing to use authoritarian violence outside the Constitution to take and wield power and those who stand up nonviolently for our Constitution in the streets and in the polling places. It’s still very much Jan. 6 in America. ...These moves at the Justice Department (pardons and firings) have cost the government thousands of collective years of investigative and prosecutorial experience, demoralized the civil service and reduced our government to the moral level of a gangster state. In March 2022, Congress passed a law requiring that, within a year...a plaque be hung in the Capitol in honor of the hundreds of officers...“Their heroism will never be forgotten.” It still has not been installed. The average annual budget for a public school district with 500 students is approximately $7.5 million to $8.85 million, based on recent national averages for per-pupil spending.
$190 Million annually paid out by the taxpayer where no text books, salaries, maintenance, administration, domicile or any other expenses associated with education apply suggests that the Daycare scheme is pretty lucrative...and not only steals from the taxpayer, but short changes public schools in the process. If the GOP plays their cards right they can get liberals fighting other liberals on this one. Teacher's union vs. Daycare scam artists. ----------- Funding day care is a net negative for society. Yes, many two working parent families depend on it, and many single moms need it to work. But it reduces dependence on extended family (bad) it reduces incentive to marry or stay married (bad) it breaks up bond of nuclear family with both parents working (bad),..... The problem is, wages have not kept up with society thanks to tens of millions of immigrants and low cost imports. Posted by: Mrs. Santa's unclean sister at January 06, 2026 02:40 PM (3BEDb) 177

I dont remember this, although I wouldnt necessarily because I only read the breathless prose, especially when Im prepping for a trip. That said, a search for go to DC in December 2020 and January 2021 came up with only supportive posts pre-January 7. With a search for it's an op and its an op on those months I found only it's an open thread and other words that begin with op pre-January 7, at least related to January 6. There were several references to COVID and masking calling them an op. Obviously, those searches wont find other ways of saying that its an op or recommending avoiding DC. I bet even these ones that were caught red handed will have years of litigation to get formally defunded. The idea of sending someone out to check every federally funded item is nearly impossible. Look at the problems DOGE had just cancelling 130 year old SS'#s If someone really feels daycare is a constitutional right, just give the low income taxpayer some voucher childcare tax credit instead of directly funding these places and having to monitor all of them. Think about that for a moment: why would you use anything but integers to count votes? It really stinks to high Heaven from the get go!
Yes, it does. As a programmer, I always tried to avoid real numbers if I could get away with it. There are a lot of problems with real numbers and rounding, and several problems on various chipsets with bugs. Also, I saw Superman III and Office Space. I know the drill. Always avoid fractions when possible! Posted by: Stephen Price Blair at January 06, 2026 03:04 PM (EXyHK) The danger in using floats is that at some point (depending on the size) adding one vote doesn't increase the total due to underflow. The danger in using ints is that overflow can occur. Posted by: Oldcat at January 06, 2026 03:07 PM (8avO+) 313

Insectors should just observe and report. And then at the level where they do enforcement, I do not want them to have a huge budget and lots of manpower (likely actually womanpower). I want them focused on the places where there is actual child abuse going on. Maybe there should be third-party auditors who follow up on a random sample, like the IRS. But it reduces dependence on extended family (bad) it reduces incentive to marry or stay married (bad) it breaks up bond of nuclear family with both parents working (bad),..... I would wager 95%+ of voter fraud is a result of early voting.
If 95%+ of voter fraud were the result of early voting then we wouldn't need mail in voting, and accepting ballots for weeks after the election, and same day/no ID registrations, and ignoring signature matches, and... I get it, folks in their late 90s fondly remember standing in a line all damn day to vote but the fact of the matter is that early voting in the US has been happening for over 100 years. This might sound a little over simplified (there are always exceptions)...but I look at the need for daycare as a result of poor planning by adults starting a family, and not being adequately prepared to do so. With that in mind, I don't think a single penny of taxpayer money should be applied towards daycare.
Just like I don't think the taxpayer should be on the hook for student loans taken out by parties refusing to consider their long term obligations (and whether they can afford) of a loan. The counter argument is always, "things cost so much more than they used to. And, as a result, both parents need to work, requiring daycare." Fine, pay for daycare from your own two working parent homes. BUT, don't depend on someone who was not involved in your decision making process to bail you out because you can't adjust your finances properly. Or, and this is monumental....don't have kids if you can't afford them. Posted by: Orson at January 06, 2026 03:29 PM (dIske) Posted by: Opinion fact at January 06, 2026 03:29 PM (KDPiq) 417

All computers use integers at some level: binary integers. What limitations the BASIC language has when implemented on microprocessors makes me ask what kind of onion do you keep on your belt? The Smartmatic machines where solving differential equations to arrive at their predetermined final results in a way that would not look like cheating as the “votes” were tallied. That’s why they used floating point numbers. There were also direct manually inserted cheats like switching the votes in a certain precinct from Biden to Trump and vice versa, as needed. This showed up on CNN on election night as a certain block of votes one way were suddenly switched to go the other way in real time. Astute observers noticed this, but their observations were dismissed.
