TRUMP: I am pleased to announce that the Interim Authorities in Venezuela will be turning over between 30 and 50 MILLION Barrels of High Quality, Sanctioned Oil, to the United States of America. This Oil will be sold at its Market Price, and that money will be controlled by me, as President of the United States of America, to ensure it is used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States! I have asked Energy Secretary Chris Wright to execute this plan, immediately. It will be taken by storage ships, and brought directly to unloading docks in the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

13 @grok how does this work?

Grok @grok

Tilt-shift photography uses special lenses that tilt and shift to control focus and perspective. Tilting angles the plane of focus, creating a shallow depth of field that blurs most of the scene except a narrow band. This mimics macro shots of miniatures, making real landscapes look like toy models. Often enhanced with high angles, saturation, and time-lapse.

That’s harsh, but sadly true - either the Defense Ministry or the internal security forces would have assassinated her in a couple of days if we tried to install her as president. And where would we be if we put her in there and she gets killed right off? Back to looking at having to put 100,000 troops in Caracas, which we absolutely do NOT want to do.

That’s harsh, but sadly true - either the Defense Ministry or the internal security forces would have assassinated her in a couple of days if we tried to install her as president. That’s what he meant by a lack of respect.

And where would we be if we put her in there and she gets killed right off? Back to looking at having to put 100,000 troops in Caracas, which we absolutely do NOT want to do.

I attended a briefing back in 1987 with maritime experts in Germany being able to use radar, Loran-C or GPS, and software to make a ship cross the Atlantic autonomously. We have the technology. The Europeans wanted to do this. But the rightly conservative regulatory agencies require manned ships for good reasons.

181 9 "1950s car has tire-changing assist."

Unfortunately, the part I always need an assist on is loosening the damn lug nuts. - She Hobbit

Once, when I was but a callow youth, my Roadrunner had a flat tire, on the rear driver's side, and I took the wrench and tried to loosen the lug nuts. I put all my might into turning the wrench - counter-clockwise, mind you - until I finally wound up sheering the bolt off the wheel. That's when I discovered that the wheels on the driver's side of Roadrunners had reverse threads, and I was supposed to go clockwise to loosen the lug nuts. It always pays to read the manual before you do anything.

The Colombian cartels build those "subs" that run up the west coast semi-submerged. I have seen pics of the interior, they are pretty crude.

188 I read that the deal with the blue barrels is that they float, and which one has a gps transponder that you can only pick up with code. So the transport gets about 15 miles off its destination, still in international waters, and kicks them overboard. Then small fishing boats looking like a hundred others come out from the destination harbor and bring in 2 or 3 at a time.

Not just a Roadrunner, but a Superbird. I had two of them, as a matter of fact: one was a metallic blue, and the other was what I think was called SubLime. Wound up selling them. I could not afford to buy one today.

253 It was not uncommon to see reports of a car/moose collision on the news. Nobody wins those. Moose are so tall you hit them in the legs and the rest of that huge body is coming right through the windshield.

I hit a cow elk one early evening in Jellystone. It was resting on the highway around a somewhat blind curve. It took off running down the road while I'm jamming on the breaks. I slowed down enough but the front end hit her back legs and she gently slid up onto the hood. As I came to a stop, she slid off and ran off giving me obscene gestures with her tail.

No damage to the car, which was a '71 Ford 4 door Torino. But that was a close shave.

Ha! That's also what the Leftist drones are posting! Putin will use Trump's snatch of Maduro as his legal rationale for kidnapping the German Chancellor, or Starmer, or whichever anti-Putin Western European leader pissed him off yesterday! And that will be totes legal if the International Community lets Trump get away with kidnapping Maduro!!! It's the end of International Law and Order! Squeeee! WW III starts tomorrow because Trump!

There is a version of "cow tipping" with moose. Their front legs are just a bit too long for proper grazing. So, more times than not, they sort of get down on their first "knuckle" to graze. That's when you hit the air horn...they fall over like a sack of potatoes. Precarious balance in that position.

269 43 Tire shops are notorious for using air impact wrenches and exceeding the manufacturer's torque specifications (translated: The damn illegal alien workers screw the nuts on too goddamn tight.)

The correct thing to do, after getting a tire changed, is to return home, break the nuts loose with a long-handled wrench, and then retorque to spec with a proper torque wrench.

Having said that, I think I've remembered to do it once in the last 25 years.
Posted by: Idaho Spudboy at January 06, 2026 07:51 PM (YYotJ)

I always ask if they use a torque wrench. Last time, at Costco, they not only showed me the torque wrench, but the installer's training cert and the calibration report for the wrench.

———

And then check the torque every 50 to 75 miles or thereafter, until stabilized. There’s a method to their madness, nobody wants to bring their shit back in for torque checks. They definitely need to be checked, or they can loosen when torqued.

It wasn’t a big deal with big beefy US steel, but once the lightweight stuff reigned everything started getting pranged. They reef that shit down to 90 yard/tons. Fuckers. Oil filters, same thing. They only need to be hand tight. For about 75 years now, but nobody believes them. Says so right on the fucking box. What do they know?
