SecWar Pete Hegseth Announces Reduction of Mark Kelly's Retirement Pay In Wake of "Seditious" Video Counseling Armed Forces Personnel to Refuse Lawful Orders

I'd've preferred hanging, but I guess this is something.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Monday announced administrative action against Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., over his participation in a video that he deemed "reckless and seditious."

Kelly, in November, appeared alongside several other Democratic lawmakers in a video urging American servicemembers to disobey "illegal orders" from President Donald Trump. The video generated outcry from conservatives, many of whom suggested the lawmakers were attempting to incite disloyalty in the military.

"[T]he Department of War is taking administrative action against Captain Mark E. Kelly, USN (Ret)," Hegseth announced. "The department has initiated retirement grade determination proceedings under 10 U.S.C. sec. 1370(f), with reduction in his retired grade resulting in a corresponding reduction in retired pay."

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth
@SecWar

2h

Six weeks ago, Senator Mark Kelly -- and five other members of Congress -- released a reckless and seditious video that was clearly intended to undermine good order and military discipline. As a retired Navy Captain who is still receiving a military pension, Captain Kelly knows he is still accountable to military justice. And the Department of War -- and the American people -- expect justice.

Therefore, in response to Senator Mark Kelly's seditious statements -- and his pattern of reckless misconduct -- the Department of War is taking administrative action against Captain Mark E. Kelly, USN (Ret). The department has initiated retirement grade determination proceedings under 10 U.S.C. sec. 1370(f), with reduction in his retired grade resulting in a corresponding reduction in retired pay.

To ensure this action, the Secretary of War has also issued a formal Letter of Censure, which outlines the totality of Captain (for now) Kelly's reckless misconduct. This Censure is a necessary process step, and will be placed in Captain Kelly's official and permanent military personnel file.

Captain Kelly has been provided notice of the basis for this action and has thirty days to submit a response. The retirement grade determination process directed by Secretary Hegseth will be completed within forty five days.

Captain Kelly's status as a sitting United States Senator does not exempt him from accountability, and further violations could result in further action.

These actions are based on Captain Kelly's public statements from June through December 2025 in which he characterized lawful military operations as illegal and counseled members of the Armed Forces to refuse lawful orders. This conduct was seditious in nature and violated Articles 133 and 134 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, to which Captain Kelly remains subject as a retired officer receiving pay.

Someone on Twitter pointed out that, despite the left's psyops about Hegseth being unqualified, every action he's ordered has gone off without a hitch.

It's almost as if the military performs better when it's led by someone who knows what he's doing and also does not hate the military itself.

19 Kelly is quite wealthy already, and having his annual retirement pension reduced by some amount in the low five figures isn't going to hurt. He could make that up fivefold with one speaking engagement to a big liberal organization.

What's going to hurt is the loss in prestige of being retroactively knocked down to Commander from Captain. Though his liberal friends will probably still call him "Captain."

It's amusing to look at what actually happened - a clueless underling (who was later fired) sent out an invite to the chat to a leftist media figure by mistake. The Leftist listened in and then claimed Hegseth should be fired for not having foreseen that he was going to listen in.

I note with a smile that Hegseth responded by tightly clamping down on anyone in the media having any access at all to anything.

Court Martial is no joke. That's why, typically, most soldiers will accept lesser punishment and plead for mercy from their commander instead of exercising their right to a full court martial.

A quick Google search shows Article 133 maximum punishment is dismissal from service (equivalent to a dishonorable discharge for enlisted personnel), forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement for up to one year

134 is a catch-all with multiple sub-charges, but if it's "Disloyal statements": Maximum punishment includes dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and up to three years of confinement.

Sounds like a takeoff on a tweet that was posted a while back after Trump started his massive illegal immigrant deportation. Theater kids also include effeminate and/or weaker guys who audition and win parts for "rugged" lead roles--because there aren't a lot of rugged guys who hang around high school departments. Theater kids also include gals who go from "not really noticed" in the hallway to all of the sudden wearing full womanly makeup when auditioning for a part--and guys like me are left wondering "Where did that come from?". And theater kids over-react to *everything*.

AOC doesn't currently have the black support or the name recognition.

She won't get anything from Kamala unless she drops out, and then it'll most likely transfer to Crockett who would probably run after her embarrassing loss in TX (Beto did it and actually raised some decent money).

Simply put, whom black voters trust has determined the direction of the Democrat Party since Obama. Biden, as Obama's VP, they trusted. Kamala is now the person they trust.

Because all that will really matter will be her name recognition.

320 302 The black vote and who they "trust" is odd.

Why did they trust old white Biden over Kamala?

Posted by: blaster at January 05, 2026 03:59 PM (NlEaG)

======

Because he was Obama adjacent.

Kamala was Indian at the time, too.

Also, Deval Patrick's campaign lasted for 2 months.

Name recognition and being Obama's VP make Biden (who had to drop out of a previous primary because of plagiarism) pretty much inevitable if the establishment was dead set on "not Bernie". Bernie only became a thing because he was put up as sacrificial lamb in 2016. Now, there is no Bernie. There is only Kamala.

As far as crockett goes she is done. Her house seat is gone and she is pulling a hail mary run for a senate seat that she has no hope of winning even the primary.

I thought I saw a pretty convincing breakdown last year, and it isn't even 25%. It was convoluted but one of her grandparents was called "black jim" or something, but he was from Ireland and not black. and another was mixed indian and unknown (possibly black), and the other two all indian.

I messed up the details, but it was questionable if there was any Africa in her at all.

He absolutely did not have all the money men behind him.

That's why the campaigns of Kamala, Beto, Buttigieg, and Warren got massive cash infusions because the establishment was desperate for both an non-Bernie and a non-Biden.

But, when Biden wouldn't go away, they settled with Biden.
