And it will be very hard to get out. Your father will expect you to leave school and start working in the mine, just as he did, at sixteen.

118 ShainS. Just spent part of a day in Butte a couple weeks ago. It's depressing in a way since you can still see what it must have been in it's heyday. We went there for a hearty Irish lunch at O'Donnel's. That pit is scary even if you are viewing it from the safe platform. Beautiful when flying over it, however very deadly up close and personal.

I buy that sausage in the plastic sleeve for my breakfast burritos or sandwiches.

212 Something's going on, it didn't always used to be that way; you should have a nice bit of grease from a proper sausage cook.
I can feel the fat in it when I make the patties.
But something is absorbing it all when it's cooking.
Posted by: People's Hippo Voice

Farmers have been breeding less fatty hogs for a long while now. They actually get a bonus for less fatty meat from slaughterhouses. So Ham, Bacon, etc. has less fat to meat ratios and that includes sausage.

But sausage itself has always been notorious for having cheap fillers, especially in bad economic times or war time rationing. Easiest product to adulterate.

216 BREAKING: Despite Russia deploying a submarine and warships to protect the oil tanker Bella 1, U.S. airborne forces began helicopter landings on the vessel minutes ago.

Reports indicate U.S. forces have boarded and are attempting to seize a renamed Venezuelan oil tanker flying Russian flags, believed to be part of Russia’s so-called shadow fleet. The operation is unfolding in the North Sea, even as the tanker remains under Russian naval escort.

And for Trump’s next trick?

Anyone in the media or the online world of 'influencers' gravitates toward negativity, chaos, and criticism. Because outrage sells better than good predictions. So you get Krugman's professional and totally idiotic take on the economy (Depression=GOP control) because it sells to dumb ass Dems that want comfort from their media. You get Rogan spouting off on Maduro because, well taking evil murderous thugs and trying them in court is, well, bad. You get Cucker Tarlson questioning whether the evil Joooos are behind every evil act and bringing guests on so he can 'question'. And so on. Old wise head takes by grumpy oldsters that there is nothing new under the sun, that Noriega set the precedents to go after Maduro, etc. etc. don't bring outrage clicks, fear clicks, and thus eyeballs to get paid.

Figure every media personality online or not trafficks in fear, uncertainty, doubt, and rage. Our job as consumers is to deflate the emotions and look at reality defined by a puzzle of different sources. Some people assemble puzzles better and faster than others.

289 BREAKING: Despite Russia deploying a submarine and warships to protect the oil tanker Bella 1, U.S. airborne forces began helicopter landings on the vessel minutes ago.

He’s about to make the left openly pro-Russia trying to explain why the U.S. shouldn’t stop a Russian shadow fleet from moving oil under fake flags.

Since runaway oil tanker MARINERA (formerly BELLA 1) has become a hot topic on this platform, it’s worth reiterating that the vessel isn't carrying any oil cargo. It never docked in Venezuela; it came from Iran. See map of its route over past 7 months. "

Looking at the map, the tanker actually went dark for 2 weeks. It may have made port in Venezuela. Decent likelihood it's carrying Venezuelan government and military personnel tied to Maduro.

372 Outside politics Reddit is useful for generic things. There’s a ton of info. Some of it good some bad. But on a particular topic you can skim comments and get a good idea of what’s happening or the info you need.

Like you want info on a good restaurant in a city you’ve never been to. Theres 1000 posts on that with all types of opinions. Spend a bit of time reading and you’ll have a good idea of where to go that suits your tastes. Or a good mechanic. Or fun activities for kids. Things like that, Reddit has value.

381 366 If DJT is impeached and subsequently found guilty in a senate trial and actually removed, JD Vance becomes president, and the only way there can be a new VP is for a Vance appointee to be OK'd by a majority vote in both house and senate.

The divide is so great, the political hatred so strong, that no one could be confirmed, if the left holds even a single vote majority in both houses.

With no VP, if President JD Vance were to be 86'd, the speaker of the house, Hakeem Jeffries, would become president.

What a nightmare scenario.

====

Right after 1/6, with Trump at his absolute lowest point politically, the Senate only got 57 votes to convict him.

The idea that the Senate, which will definitely still be in GOP hands, will convict Trump of an impeachment in 2027 or 2028 is ludicrous, and people need to stop feeding this frenzy of fear around it.

Yes, if Dems take the House, they will try to impeach. No, the Senate will not convict. We've actually seen this play out twice before, and acting like next time, with the GOP more firmly behind him than the previous two times, it will lead to conviction is willful blindness.

Yep. Calling Yup'ik "Inuit" is like calling a Spaniard "French", just because they both speak Romance languages.

Might even get your ass kicked for that. Historically the two groups did not get along. Of course both groups hated the Indians ("Native Americans") with the burning fury of a thousand suns.

Where I live, the local Yup'ik (the Alutiiq, i.e., Eskimos) were genocided by the Denaʼina (i.e., Indians) before white people even showed up.
