Judge rules Trump admin can share illegal migrant Medicaid data with ICE
U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria ruled that ICE officials can access six categories of "basic" personal information: Address, citizenship, immigration status, phone number, date of birth and Medicaid ID.

A federal judge ruled Monday that the Trump administration can share Medicaid information pertaining to illegal migrants with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers next month.
The ruling comes after 22 Democratic states sued to stop the government from sharing the information in July, which was granted while the case played out. The liberal states can still appeal the ruling.
The order approved an agreement between the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Department of Homeland Security in July that allowed ICE officials to access the personal data of 79 million Medicaid enrollees, including home addresses, to track down the illegal migrants.
U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria ruled that ICE officials can access six categories of "basic" personal information: Address, citizenship, immigration status, phone number, date of birth and Medicaid ID.
"The sharing of such information is clearly authorized by law and the agencies have adequately explained their decisions," Chhabria wrote in the seven-page order.

If you sponsor someone to become a citizen, you still have to sign forms saying that you will reimburse the government for any welfare the new citizen takes.

If welfare programs are to exist, there should be strings attached. The biggest one should be, "you can't be a criminal and take advantage of a program." It should go further than just illegal aliens. We should also drug test program participants, exclude anyone who is in prison, etc. I don't think that is unreasonable.

And yeah. If this works out, we're going to see how big the lies have been when it comes to the "illegals aren't on programs!" canard. Next audit EMTALA costs and education.

I don't think there's a Western modern government that's tried mass deportations at this scale ever.

It's an economic experiment with almost no precedent, so all economic models are just going to be insufficient to predict things.

"The labor market is weak while GDP is up! This signals...something!"

I have a strong suspicion that the combination of deportations, efforts at repatriation of manufacturing, and the choking off of unproductive, leech financial centers in the US economy (NGOs and fed grants) is going to lead to a very large economic boom.

We'll see.

TPS is really just a deferment from deportation. It's scheduled to end at a certain point, but administrations almost always just extend it.

No one here under TPS should ever imagine building a life permanently. But, that becomes hard when every administration defers the scheduled deportation for 30 years.

My church has an actual clinic on campus where they do dental work and minor medical care for those who can prove low income and have no insurance. It’s staffed by members who are doctors and dentists, they volunteer their time. You have to have to sign a ton of waiver and releases, but it’s a potential option.

Trump's admin has been saying that they will denaturalize people and deport them. This is a perfect test case for that.

I'll make a bet with anyone without discretion. I'm willing to bet that a large portion of the Federal funds provided to California for a high speed rail somehow found a new home in the reserve used to pay State Medicaid to illegals., and that this has been an ongoing process that goes back to at least 2015 on that particular money.

More specifically, I'll bet that states like California don't even use NGO's and Foundations to launder the money so that it can be applied to other projects. I'll bet they just transfer it over, then disallow Federal auditor oversight...and this has been an ongoing practice no one has challenged.

Except this is indeed the case in some instances--your tax returns can't be shared with just any shitstain that happens to be working in the federal government. But your point still stands, as in this particular case this "basic" info (citizen status, address, etc.) was being shared with a federal agency specifically tasked with immigration enforcement. They weren't getting health info, etc., and I'm sure they didn't give a shit about that stuff anyway.

Remember what SNAP was and how it started.

It was a USDA program to manipulate the price of agricultural commodities. Uncle Sam would buy some amount of agricultural production as a price support, then give it away to poor people who went and picked up their actual food. Government cheese, bags of flour, etc.

I wouldn't object to going back to that system. Give out actual nutritious (if simple) food to people to take home and cook, and pay for it by redirecting subsidies that accomplish a similar objective with less transparency.

325 It's even worse for the fraudulent day care center to suddenly fill up with live bodies. It's one thing for investigators to evaluate missing books and data files, invoices. Chasing down missing receipts - typical audit stuff.

But once you have actual live bodies, you can ask them for names, addresses, bank accounts, credit cards, documentation on the spot. Then you can reconcile those names to any prior activity at the location. Inspection history. If ONE thing doesn't add up - like different names of parents and children, then the real fun begins.

326 Obviously, citizenship should be a requirement for welfare. Clean living, too. I don't think ot needs to be like parole, with UAs, and officer visits, and all that horseshit. But you should work at a job every day. Every single one, short of family emergencies, until you're off it - and that should have a time limit. This ain't a vacation.
