The way small pox came to the mainland Indians is kind of odd.
In the 1510s he heard about a rich tribe in Mexico and left Spanish held Cuba with a group of adventurers. He disobeyed the colonial governor who then sent an army to bring him back. When the army got to Cortez he offered them a choice - arrest me and go back to working for a pittance under the governor or join me and get rich. The speech was apparently a good one as the governor's small army joined him. And...one of the men in the governor's army had small pox. So as they travelled around Mexico building alliances and fighting hostile tribes they also spread the disease. But none of it was intentional. And amusing directly opposite of what the Spanish government had ordered. I like the horse in the foreground and its accoutrements: vivid and detailed. The sheen on the horse's coat is especially effective. The people and the background are much more generic and indistinct. Maybe that's the point. I do question weather the man wearing the war bonnet is accurate. Seems out of place for a simple encampment.
For my taste, the painting would be more effective if it was just the horse as it is against the simple background. The people are superfluous. Wheels, you say? WHEELS?! Luxury!!
Here we are, up to our armpits in filth and shite, trudging through the same bog every bleedin' day since the Romans buggered off and left us with nothin' but Latin curses and bad drainage! And you come swannin' in with your fancy cart and your two—two!—whole wheels, like you're the bleedin' king of the universe! We had to make do with one wheel—one!—and that was only because me old grandad found half a millstone and we lashed it to a plank with string we nicked off a dead sheep! And we were grateful! You lot with your four wheels, your greased axles, your not-fallin'-over-every-three-steps... luxury! Back in my day, if we wanted to move anything heavier than a bucket of mud, we just picked it up and walked till our legs fell off, then we crawled the rest of the way! And we liked it! But nooo, now everyone's got wheels like it's the bleedin' Renaissance or somethin'. Spoiled, the lot of ya! Luxury! Luxury, I tell ya! We didn't have wheels... we had spirit! And blisters! And more spirit! And even more blisters! Now bugger off with your fancy rolling contraption before I start a proper revolution right here in this puddle! The west as a whole can't come to terms with the fact there is almost an infinite desire for "free" healthcare. Ironically for people that are working they don't have time to constantly go to the doctor but if you are on welfare...why not? I love this place:
A new Tennessee law went into effect on January 1, 2026, that declares certain out-of-state driver's licenses invalid in Tennessee — specifically those issued exclusively to illegal aliens. Tennessee now officially does not recognize out-of-state driver's licenses that are issued only to undocumented immigrants. Driving in Tennessee with such an invalid license is classified as a Class B misdemeanor, which can carry penalties of up to 6 months in jail and/or fines. The law requires the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security to maintain and publish a list of which out-of-state licenses are considered invalid under this provision. If someone is a refugee then they shouldn't be able to travel back to their home countries to visit, ever! Don't Somali send their girls back home for FGM, which is referred to as "cutting season". If they're doing it here in the USA then they should be arrested, permanently deported, and stripped of all rights. That's one way to reduce this barbaric practice here in the USA where it's illegal.

The decision to use the Legend class of cutters as the basis for a new frigate is the right one, and this shows why. Not all naval vessels need to be rugged combatants. Sometimes you just need a good seaboat with lots of endurance, modest armament, ASW cabability and a chopper or two.
They're cheap, we've made ten so far, and they work great. Long range and endurance as well. I didn't know they chosen to go that way. The Legend class is 4500-4600 tons, which is comparable to a destroyer. Obviously the Navy will have to make some changes to the armament and sensor suites, but given their recent track record, this may well be a good choice. An Oakland resident has been charged with secretly taking a nude picture of his girlfriend's 16-year-old family member while she sat on the toilet, court records show. The suspect, 44-year-old Elder Lopez, allegedly drank alcohol, then fell asleep on his girlfriend's couch while listening to music, authorities said. When he woke up, he was surrounded by Oakland police, who'd been called there by his girlfriend after she allegedly went through his phone and found the picture, according to court records. And russia/china would love to take down a stealth aircraft. A single moment's penetration of airspace accompanied by decoys is completely different than maintaining a bombing campaign to take out structure. Much more risky. I'm not saying I'm a proponent of the US getting involved and our people getting put in harms way at all.
