Probably. If you have the 8GB 9600 XT, turn off ray tracing and you'll be good at 1080p and likely even at 1440p.
I haven't cracked my box open to replace my GPU and PSU yet, as I don't want to risk not having a PC to work with if something goes wrong so it's still got the RX 7600 I originally built it with. That card only has 8GB and I was running Cyberpunk 2077 at around 60 to 80 fps at 1440p (no Ray-tracing, I'd be lucky to get 15 fps if I turned any of that on). Also The Outer Worlds, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Red Dead Redemption 2 all were giving me over 60 fps. I'd run the games at Medium or High settings and tweak specific settings as needed. GotG even has some light Ray-tracing and it ran fine. I think 8GB is still fine for most games people play. It may cause some trouble at 1440p with some of the newer games, or specific games on specific game engines might run like crap, but for the most part people can get by on 8GB for a few more years if you don't go crazy with the settings. Posted by: m at December 22, 2025 04:38 AM (RuTUS) I'd say for a reputable company it's probably OK, as they are legit about it being an Unsubscribe list. Some other fly-by-night or janky spam mail lists are harder to trust as they may just be using an Unsubscribe to confirm a valid address and then they'll just send you more spam. I generally just send stuff to Junk/Spam folders, and Gmail and Yahoo are pretty good about putting it all there so I never see it. Posted by: SpeakingOf at December 22, 2025 04:48 AM (6ydKt) 18

One thing that iRobot never seemed to realize about vision-based vacuuming robots is that you can't run the fucking things at night without leaving the lights on, since they couldn't see anything if you didn't. Maybe that was fine pre-COVID, when users probably weren't in the houses during the day, but it's a PITA when you start working from home.
The image of the woman on the toilet when the robot went in the bathroom to vacuum that leaked out on the internet didn't help a lot. For Telsa's cars using vision, we expect human driven cars to have their lights on to see, so it's not a big deal for the robot cars to do the same. I was an early iRobot adopter (I've got 2 to cover my house now) and the FTC fucking the goat here pisses me off. Posted by: Richard Cranium at December 22, 2025 05:29 AM (rlXCY) 29

Why do I talk about Silver prices? Why did President Trump declare Silver a vital National Resource? Same reasons. The Silver Price is not any longer really determined by commodities traders as a speculative price. The real determination is governed by the physical short fall in supplies of the metal, and its widespread industrial uses. Why did J.P. Morgan pay a $920 million fine to the FTC for "spoofing" the silver market? For years the bank has held the silver price low by sending out false sell orders and canceling them just before execution. That was a RICO violation and Bank executives went to prison for doing that. The reason they did that was to amass a huge physical amount of Silver at artificially low prices. Anything High tech requires the low electrical resistance of Silver, and there is no substitute for the metal. For instance: a tomahawk cruise missile uses about 500 oz of Silver and that silver is destroyed into unrecoverable vapor when the missile is used. Hundreds of millions of cell phones also use small amounts of silver which can't be recovered when the cell phone dies, because the cost of recovery is too high. Silver spot is at $69.33 per oz.

You can't have high speed data chips without the low resistance of silver. For years silver came out of the ground at a 16 : 1 ratio to gold. But we have exhausted the easily obtained silver, and it is now coming out of the ground at a 7:1 ration with gold. The new Samsung battery which will make electric cars practical - no fire hazard, 9 minute recharge time, 20 year life span, and 600 mile range will use about a kilogram of silver per car. Nobody mines for silver; it is a by product of copper, zinc, and lead mining. Geopolitically Mexico, Peru, and China are the major producers of the metal and there are political problems with all of those sources. A new silver mine takes 5-10 years to come on line and faces major environmental restrictions.

You are going to hear stories about "Silver Hoarders" but that is just propaganda from the big money silver hoarders to keep the attention off of them. Don't fall for "Windfall taxes" talk or physical confiscation BS for individual "stackers" of silver. The banks like J.P. Morgan have got 99.9% of the actual above ground stocks of silver.
Just thought I'd explain why I talk about Silver prices, and not soybean prices, as the smart ass here asks. Posted by: An Observation sez Trump is my President at December 22, 2025 06:08 AM (Da7Vv) Posted by: Captain Obvious, Laird o' the Sea at December 22, 2025 06:09 AM (qbLEp) 40

The democrats had Eric Holder, who ran guns in and out of mexico and killed people all the while being an anti-white racist. Trump has Bondi, who cant be bothered to get her hair mussed while scheduling her next vajayjay waxing. Posted by: Fight Already at December 22, 2025 07:18 AM (m8zKa) 87
Seems like you might wanna time those indictments so that they have the maximum impact on the midterm elections.
But what do I know? I didn't even sleep at a Holiday inn Express last night. Posted by: Quarter Twenty at December 22, 2025 07:18 AM (2Ez/1) 88
I suppose Bondi should not even bother to charge people then.

Playing by the left's rules is a sucker's game. Saying that "we are better than that" is just a way for losers to lose.

It was never going to create a monopoly. The FTC didn't care. It wanted scalps.
++++ Sometimes. Arbitrarily. The FTC wants scalps, but not if it will be politically inconvenient or upset someone's apple cart. iRobot's problem, if it had one in this regard, was not being an apple cart. It is easy to look at the entire market and see the big monopolies and cartels - especially though not exclusively in high tech and medicine - and say, "where the hell is the FTC?" They're out chasing scalps that won't upset their masters. The bigger, more predatory, more damaging and more obvious scalps are politically protected. Those scorecards on FTC office doors all need an asterisk. Not "these are the deals we blocked" but rather, "these are the deals where the dealmakers failed to have enough squeeze." I can think of *one* FTC block against major players that actually seems to have been related to its core mission, which was the AT&T/T-Mobile acquisition. LOL. I have seen stuff on youtube saying 1 oz. of silver will buy a house.
I think it's hilarious. Posted by: no one at December 22, 2025 07:26 AM (qFwJc) Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at December 22, 2025 07:29 AM (O7YUW) 97
Laypeople don’t understand the enormous problems in the legal system. There is no point - in fact it would very damaging to us - to have Bondi bring 100 indictments and have all 100 tossed out within 2 weeks for any number of reasons.
Obama and Biden could get away with ignoring many of the rules and procedures because Democrats spent the last 30 years recruiting thousands of political judges and political DA’s. Conservatives have never done that and do not have resources like that to call on. The situation sucks but that’s the truth. Posted by: Tom Servo at December 22, 2025 07:31 AM (trsuh) 98
"If prices jump by 8% it will only be because specs have been sharply reduced."
So the market's going to be flooded by underspecced offerings for a year or two, and buying any hardware is going to be painful for any of a multitude of reasons. Me, I'll be watching for the inevitable specials in February as hardware manufacturers of devices that either use memory (motherboards) or support things that do (power supplies, fans, cases, cpu coolers, etc...) get desperate to sell to a customer base that has paused purchases due to the memory price nonsense. I might buy a few select things then. From what I was seeing over at Gamer's Nexus videos, Black Friday was kinda grim for console and other electronic device sales.
