Crimes which could then serve as a basis for expelling foreign-born terror-activists from the country.

So, the allegation goes, they pressured Brown into simply turning off their cameras, and Brown, of course, complied.

Before that: Supposedly they are searching for a specific person of interest in the terror shooting.

Of course they won't tell the public who they're looking for. It's standard police practice to withhold information during a manhunt so that the public cannot help you find the suspect.

Wait a minute, no, that's not standard police practice at all, is it?

A person of interest has been identified in the deadly mass shooting at Brown University, multiple sources familiar with the investigation told CBS News on Thursday.
Law enforcement has identified a person, and a search for that individual is underway, the sources said.

Remember, they put out a picture of a man seen "in proximity" of the actual suspect, asking for tips about who he was. Their hope was that this man might be a witness who could offer a description of the actual suspect, I gather.

So when they say "a person of interest" has been identified, they might just be referring to this witness, not the killer. The photo of this "in proximity" person of interest was a lot more useful than ones of the killer, because we continue to allow people to wear masks in public because Taylor Lorenz will cry if we don't.

Meanwhile, there is a claim that Brown deliberately disabled many of its cameras because left-wing criminal "activists" didn't want the police having videotaped evidence of their crimes, and their foreign-born Islamic agitators didn't want to be expelled from the country.

And then this literal wilful blindness enabled the killer to (so far) walk away from his crime, unidentified.

I don't know if this is true. Brown the cops claim that it's not suspicious that there are only a couple of videos of the terrorist killer because this building was on the edge of the campus, bordering on a residential neighborhood with no camera coverage.

Uh, okay, that's plausible.

What's the excuse for their being no cameras inside a school building? At the doors?

Meanwhile, "authorities," such as they are, are asking for video of the scene of the crime for a week before the attack. I assume the point is to see if they can find the killer scouting and casing the site.

If the cameras were in fact turned off, then obviously we won't have any new clues.

Except about the need to defund Brown University completely and deny all student loans to students there.

Update: h/t to JackStraw, a Rhode Island tv news report says that there is a possible link between the Brown shooting and the assassination of an MIT physics professor.

University of North Dakota, school with slightly more student enrollment than Brown University (and probably a much smaller endowment) not only does cameras and key card entrance controls everywhere, but can control all door locks, internal and external from a centralized security station.

Every building on all of the campuses (including admin) is 3D modeled and security can tell if the doors are being opened, closed, how long a door is opened and then entire campus can be locked down with a single command. Furthermore, on the display an actor can replay any camera, keycard and door control that happened over a period of time and replay it like a video recording the activity on the campus.

Alerts and alarms can be set for rooms that must remained closed and locked (will trigger an alarm if cleaning crew props a door open)

I don't think I'm giving up real OPSEC here, this is a state school in Podunk USA and it is copied all over the place. For Brown to do what they did, their legal team better have authority to write blank checks.

AFAIK we did not have cameras in the classrooms but our administration would be the last to tell us if they did. Introduces some legal issues with FERPA etc.

Anyone familiar with campus security understands that one of their biggest problems is townies coming on to campus to assault and rob vulnerable, unsuspecting, high trust, students.

Many campuses have taken on fortress mentality with limited access to the neighborhoods outside campus, (which is difficult due to student housing and the usual mixed town/gown zone on the edges.

They all have cameras specifically focused on the borders.

A lot of this is due to Clery Act requirements for reporting on crime and security.

Another reason state school at home is a great call. B/c while a shot kid might not be the one you want talking to the media, the parent raising holy hell is. Was building a biometric security station that is used in places I can't say, doubtlessly y'all have been through them even though you most likely don't know it.

With cameras and enough infra red and pixels I can read fingerprints, face and eyes and build searchable templates from each modality - all while you are on the move.

Fingerprints are probably the most surprising. Eyes is the quickest and most discriminating.

And another thought just occurred to me. Feebs may be letting Providence PD apparently lead because they are using the sekret cell and computer comm intercepts, imaging from airports, border crossings, etc. from government databases.

Every state has a 'fusion' intelligence center where feds, state, and local po po work and such things can be whitewashed as tips when the origin was a comm intercept or something like that.

Think I am joking, take a gander at stories dealing with Stingray (fake cell towers that conduct sweeps and intercepts all calls, texts, etc. in a vicinity) and local crime prosecutions. Sometimes the prosecutions are even dropped because governments do not want to disclose where the evidence came from.

I'll have to admit, the media has been doing a credible job covering this. When the FBI SAC in Boston was being interviewed on the MIT assassination last night, the first question asked was whether or not it was related to the Brown massacre. The answer was "currently" no evidence connecting these two events. As soon as heard the weasel word "currently", I figured "highly likely".

If they are related, then this becomes an interstate matter, and if so, the Brown and MIT murders should come under FBI authority. Rhode Island, which, to the best of my knowledge is still a state, is proving to be rather problematic, currently.

Cops are allowed to issue material witness arrest warrants if they can persuade a judge that someone knows something about a crime. Same as any other evidence.

Courts have ruled that such is constitutional under the 6th because it allows subpoenas, etc. to bring in reluctant witnesses by force if necessary.

Whatever process protections for investigations that a defendant gets, the state also gets for the most part.

Mirrored sunglasses don't do a very good job blocking infra-red - iris scanners normally use near IR. It reduces image clarity, no doubt but that is why their are other modalities like face shape, thermal imaging, depth sensors, etc.

328 Here's what concerns me. I'm going to assume the shooter is a Brown student. I think the one student killed (studying to be a neurosurgeon) was the target. And, I think the shooter knows him well.

Then, I think Brown had an idea who it was, and that party is not in his dorm, missed finals (it's finals week up there) and they realized he took off.

If the MIT killing is related, then you're looking as a potential spree killer taking out people he has a problem with for whatever reason(s). THOSE are the type killers you want to have the public very informed about. And, it seems they are purposefully keeping it quiet.

In short...I don't think we're done with the murders. He'll have someone else on his list. And, I'd keep an eye out in Wash DC.

There was a rumor that the CCTV network in London had been turned off about the time Ukraine kicked off, with the side rumor that this was to set up for a Russian false flag.
London is heavily covered by CCTV but if it went off line I am guessing it is because the security service's Windows ME-based surveillance system got ransomwared.

A person on the move actually helps reads where multiple snapshots can be run through algorithms to provide a more detailed image yielding better matching.
