In what the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) called “an extremely rare event,” an adult Michigan man became infected with rabies following a kidney transplant. According to a CDC report, the man received a left kidney from a deceased donor in Idaho in December 2024. The procedure went perfectly, and the patient made a full recovery, but just over five weeks later, he started experiencing worrying symptoms. The unnamed kidney recipient first started experiencing tremors, leg weakness, confusion, and urinary incontinence, but things only got worse. Within days, he was hospitalized with fever, difficulty swallowing, signs of hydrophobia, and autonomic nervous system dysfunction. He soon had to be mechanically ventilated because he couldn’t breathe by himself, and died a week into his hospitalization.----- Having visited Zion National Park recently, I can attest to crowd sizes and shuttle bus congestion. Kevin makes a confession to him, then shakes his hand and we see a bandage on Marley's hand. It's never explained why his hand is wounded, but earlier in the movie we saw that his hand was actually pierced ALL THE WAY THROUGH — like the nails driven through Christ's hands on the cross. There's a good bit of HDR in them but I like HDR. Some photographers think it's a cheat but I think it's just closer to how we really see, or the best approximation.

Sorry for not posting today's launches. I spent the whole morning in the ER. I've been terribly ill for four days and haven't been able to eat or drink without my stomch making stabby-stabby feelings.
Rest assured, I will be fine after my new meds. The stomach bug I had last month caused me to end up with colitis. I still can't eat solid food without getting ill, so I will be getting some nutritional shakes.
Yesterday, we had to let our old boy Oscar go. It has not been a good year.

Pre getting married, my Dad worked in Yosemite for the Power companies... ran a lot of the Power lines into and all over the park... and as an outdoor guy who grew up in the area anyway (Modesto) he knew the park reallllly well.
So yeah, once in the Park I know where to go to get away from the crowds... you just don't want to do a lot of those hikes alone for safety reasons.

The guy would have got away if they had explained which was "the right" door out of the hallway. They were supposed to take the left door into the stairwell but took the right one into the hall because the judge stressed that they had to take the "right door". The correct door was the left. I language problem, as it were.
It was a comedy of errors.

On Tuesday, we went to the theater for a big-screen showing of Scrooged. Our group of five had the theater to ourselves, alas. Would have been more fun with more people. Only problem was, the audio was poor. After the movie, we mentioned this, and an employee told us that theater had a blown speaker and he would turn up the volume for the later showing. Did not offer us a refund or free popcorn.
It was okay. Had most of the dialogue memorized. Surprised that, even after mostly annual viewings, there were parts that were still moving.
First saw Scrooged in its first run in a crowded Chicago theater. Appreciative audience.
You remember that news guy infamous for shouting "stop the hammering"? Realized Frank Cross (Bill Murray) did it first.

437 So, here's a theory (hard to prove with guy dead, but here goes)...
Guy felt wronged in some way that he was not the Physics Wunderkind that the MIT guy became - aka, that guy stole his life.
So, 1st, he goes to Brown to get revenge on the school that forced him off the path = grades, whatever - and picks the classroom where it all went wrong
Then he drives up to MIT and actually murders the guy he thinks stole his life.
Very narcisstic and almost delusional, but would fit a motive to both shootings.
And the big promotion and adulation MIT guy recently got set it all in motion...maybe as early as when MIT guy was in the running...

You only need reservations if you're using the campsites, otherwise you just pay the entrance fee. And Vets can get a pass that waives the entrance fee entirely.
Sure the campsites are busy because it's a crowded park, but if you live near enough just go for the day and head home.

I read (briefly) that the MIT professor got some sort of promotion and maybe that set him off. Since they went to the Portugal univeristy together and came to the USA for grad school on student visas in 2000. By 2001 this jerk was no longer at Brown, reasons tonight unknown.
Obviously an unhinged, narcissistic sociopath with a long grudge.
What got me was how the entire state and Brown University are in denial that "they" caught him. When RING and rental car video did, thanks to the homeless guy. The President is nervous, as she should be, for the lack of cameras in that building.

Same academic program in Portugal with those dates. Came to grad school in the USA under student visas in 2000. The shooter dropped out of Brown in 2001 (or was kicked out). Moved to Miami.Applied for and got a Green card in Sept 2017.
Came back to Boston in October of this year. Rented a car in Boston and changed plates often. Got into the physics building at Brown, that staff have complained about randos doing without ID, and had an altercation with the witness (the homeless guy?) in the bathroom. He later followed him to his car and got the car ID.
After the Brown shooting he returned to Boston and killed his fellow Portugal classmate in his home. Had rented the storage unit for months in NH.
The RI police/FBI did not have his name til last night. He was dead when they got to the storage unit...it took time to ID his finances last night as he was smart enough to have a certain possible European Sim card that they could not track easily.

Not to be dismissive of Ella but there was another person shot and killed at Brown. A young man who was a brain cancer survivor. Why him? Maybe she was just another innocent victim.
The killer and the MIT professor must have known each other for years. There is nothing to suggest the killer and Ella knew each other.

Two others left and started another band. They couldn't find a comparable lead guitarist after playing with Page, Beck, and Clapton..... go figure.
So they changed their lineup a few times, and wound up with: vocalist (female), electric bass (playing lead), acoustic guitar (playing rhythm), keyboards, drums. And often a full orchestra.

I can see a critcal look at this mess at Brown and MIT, but I have followed the Kirk murder and local news since it happened. It was not a conspiracy and his own wife says the same.
I listened to the RI press conference and part of the MA one. Once the President of Brown said he was on a student visa from Portugal it clicked. Until then it was all over the place on wth happened.
The furry had been a hunter since he was a child. He took his grandfather's old rifle as he figured forensics could not trace it to him. He wanted his furry lover to be impressed, along with the furry friends. A gamer. Full scholarship to college (Utah State) and dropped out after one semester.
Ususally when this happens it is because they can't fit in or have issues living away from him (gamer). He thought he was the most brilliant person in the room type of nerd. Planned it out. Unfortunately his face was identified and his parents saw him and confronted him that night.
Kirk's talk of gheys triggered him and his furry friends. It is as simple as that. He thinks he will get off. I doubt it.

Think of how many are here, originally on student visas, then green cards (as this jerk was from 2017). His student visa lasted a whopping year then he left.
We'll know more from FL as to his "religion" and state of mind. It sounds like he hated that he failed to achieve what the MIT professor friend from Portugal did. The question also remains as to why he left Brown in 2001.

I can relate a story that may shed light on the source of the cookie problem.
My uncle decided that he was going to make donut drops - donut batter deep fried but without the toroidal shape.
They came out with the symptom you describe: hard as rocks.
Turns out that he followed the recipe, except for one detail - he didn't realize that there is a difference between baking powder and baking soda.

Just driving through a few streets in town, I've seen dozens of downed trees (mostly evergreens), large broken branches and damaged homes.
Yeah, I can "chip away" at Dad's tree for a while, hope to get a break on the price if I can remove enough on my own. May be months before tree service can get to it.

I called out to work and went outside and found a couple neighbors out there. Scratching their heads. Hmmmm.
A couple guys got out various sizes of chainsaws, I got my loppers and we got to work. More folks showed up and we had hot coffee and campstove fired up and breakfast burritos in no time.

I will take a recip saw to some branches maybe, but none that would cause it to roll. The trunk is a couple feet above ground due to the rootball being pulled up. Trunk diameter is about 3ft.

Well, no aliens from 3I/ATLAS.
ATLAS stands for "Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System". That has detected a lot of comets and asteroids.
They are also running a "planetary defense drill" exercise today, using 3I/ATLAS closest approach to practice tracking.

At least he knows it's Christmas-time (unlike last year, when he was completely bonkers) but I can't give him the ONE thing he really wants, which is to come home.
Neighbors will mostly be out of town for the holidays, leaving tomorrow. No family around. That's almost a blessing, knowing our families LOL!
Phone calls. Those will be our Christmas get-togethers.

I do know, that most of it would stay in the fridge until end of shift & they'd head to somebody's barracks room for after-party but I didn't mind. At least *I* didn't have to endure the noise or clean up the mess! Hahahaha!

I haven't had snow tires put on, but need to. Summer tires are worn nearly to the wear-indicators. Should get them replaced when winter tires are on, so won't need to sit around for hours at the tire shop.
