26 In college, I volunteered as a reader for blind students.

One of the books I read for one of my students was the Aeneid. I didn't read the whole thing, but a good chunk of it.

The plot of the Aeneid is basically this: Aeneas escapes from Troy and wanders around the Mediterranean wondering what he should do with his life. Everywhere he goes, somebody tells him to go to Italy. But he spends most of the epic NOT going to Italy.

In the end, something seeps in. "Gee, maybe I should go to Italy," he says to himself. Then he does finally go to Italy, where he kicks ass.

Most of those Greek/Roman mythological heroes were pretty dim bulbs. Odysseus excepted.

79 The art...
I like the colors and the composition. The characters seem relaxed and comfortable with one another and in their surroundings.
However....
The naked girl is young and seems to be treated like a favorite pet. That's creepy as fuck. And she is completely superfluous and serves no purpose to the scene.

Wonder what the artist was thinking and trying to convey by adding her to the group.

100 Guerin uses a calm scene from mythology, Aeneas recounting his trevails to Dido and her sisters. His posture is relaxed while the women are paying close attention and are clearly attracted to him. The colors are subdued unlike many of the more dramatic images from Neo-classical art. The power comes from the viewer knowing the story of Dido's doomed love for him and her suicide in despair when he is required to leave her by the gods to fulfill his destiny. That adds a layer emotion to a quiet scene. Interesting understatement.

I actually prefer Guerin's portraits. His portrait of a young girls perfectly combines that time of innocence and sensuality for a young teen.

Leftists alternate between saying things like this, then calling for people of religions they don't like to be imprisoned.

And one thing I remember that gives me a chuckle - in the late 90s the left argued the only reason the US didn't depose the Taliban was because the US was a patriarchal society and approved of the Taliban

And then after 9/11 when the US did depose them, for a while at least, the left started arguing the only reason the US did it was because we wanted to bully a weak 3rd world country and were too racist to respect their sovereignty.

I suspect that many of them were in fact real. They were not gods and they weren't able to kill hundreds of enemies in one go, but they were important warlords and leaders in ancient Greece and their stories were enhanced over time.

It didn't help, but Pierce had alcohol troubles long before his son's death. When he ran for President, he was mocked as being "the hero of many a well-fought bottle."

Jane Pierce didn't drink, so far as I know, but never wanted Pierce to hold political office, was angry with him when he ran and considered their son's death to be God's judgement on them both.

And Pierce came pretty close to treason when he hooked up with Buchanan, Fillmore, Van Buren and Tyler to thwart POTUS-elect Lincoln's plans to handle the South.

It's all just (bad) theater with them. Why would any sane adult believe that blowing up drug runners turns their stomach? Really? Its one thing to say "I have an intellectual problem with the equivalent of passing death sentences on people without a trial." Ok, I could at least entertain a discussion in that regard. But "it turns my stomach that drug runners got squashed"..??? That's just silly.

My Daughters is the 29th and we took the tree down on the 26th... No hint of Christmas anywhere in the house... Got in that habit and still take it all down on the 26th...

American ‘citizen’ without the context makes it sound worse than it was .

=====

Both were American citizens (dude and his son), and the strike was targeting them outside of anything like combat.

363 Stand back! He's gonna blow!

BREAKING: A livid Chuck Schumer reveals he STORMED up to Pete Hegseth and Marco Rubio, announcing the narco-terrorist strikes "turn my stomach!"
Chuck can't stand seeing American-killers get blown up.
"I demanded to Hegseth's FACE he let every senator see the unedited video...I've seen it. It turns your stomach! It is awful!!!
"What the hell is Hegseth hiding!?"
Sadly, Chuck came out empty-handed: "We had a DEEPLY unsatisfying briefing."

He took up way too much of the bonus round's running clock, making it harder for the contestants to actually win.

370 American ‘citizen’ without the context makes it sound worse than it was .
Posted by: Opinion fact

There was a period of time where citizenship was handed out like moslims handing out candy after they coerced a mentally disabled recruit to self-detonate in an Israeli school playground.

If I were in the Trump admin, I'd hire a team to scour through all citizen grants starting with Bush's first term and revoke on any technicality.

Counts as a de facto renunciation of citizenship, as far as I am concerned. And if he was born outside the USA, and got citizenship by naturalization, then going back to Shitcanistan and joining ISIS is proof that he lied when he took the citizenship oath.

He should also have been impeached and thrown in jail for Fast and Furious, an effort to overthrow the 2nd Amendment by getting firearms into the hands of foreign cartels.

Not to mention being an Act of War against Mexico, since the point wasn't just to get arms into cartel hands, but to have them picked up AT CRIME SCENES with Mexican blood on the ground.

375 🚨#BREAKING: I have obtained voting records of Asheville NC's Vice Mayor, Antanette Mosley...

...and she appears to have cast ballots in BOTH Georgia and North Carolina in 2008, 2012, and 2014.

Furthermore, it appears she also claimed a "homestead tax exemption" in Georgia which is legally only available to those with a permanent residence.

... public corruption should be a capital offense
