23 This painting gives me an ominous feeling. It's a warning to all. The pastoral setting portrays Europe before the blight of criminals coming from the Turd World. Look to the left. Your lovely continent can be taken out at any time by boulders coming down from the heights above.

36 What a great painting! I like everything about it. The perspective, the way he used light to create a sense of distance and mood, the level of detail (in watercolor!!) in the stonework and the house. The ruin gives a sense of longevity, history and continuity. The house with the man on a porch and the horse standing blends into the landscape and almost disappears, adding to the feel of nature's grandeur in the image.

I looked at several of his other works on the Wiki page. They are all well done and effective. I'm surprised Lev Lagorio isn't more famous. His paintings remind me of John Constable landscapes.

That is the usual by defenders, not invaders. The invaders come via the river valleys while the defenders pick the best high ground so that the invading horde is funnelled to a defensive spot.

Thermopylae for example. Valley of Elah for another.

76 This is a really nice painting. Ithas a nice balance of light/warm vs. cool/dark. I like the setting, with the old shelter next to the rod and the ruins of what was probably a watch tower built to guard the river ford below. The touch of autumn red and the two cypresses balancing the tower ruins, the zig-zag diagonals formed by the river and the road leads the eye through the composition and into the far distance. Great work!

It's a beautiful painting. I'd hang it.

>5 Minute History, 12 Beautiful Paintings from Russian Artist Lev Lagorio

Lev Lagorio (1828–1905) loved the way light plays with the beauty and drama of sea and mountains.

Known for his seascapes, Lagorio studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Influenced by the great marine artist Ivan Aivazovsky, Lagorio went on a sea voyage in 1845 aboard a Russian warship, where he studied the arrangement of ships—many of which feature in his work.

He spent eight years in Italy, his paintings of which earned him a professorship on returning to Russia.

In his later years, Lagorio painted coastal views of Finland and Norway.

162 If we had a fair and honest media Trump wouldn't have to constantly point out not just the failures of the Biden administration but in many cases the criminal negligence or flat out criminality. We bathe in it daily so to us it's repetitive but the vast majority of the country rarely if ever hears it because our media is nothing more than an extension of the uniparty. The same media that in some cases actually questioned whether or not Trump had really been shot.

Unless and until there is a real reckoning for what has been going on in this country for decades I'm fine with Trump hammering it day after day after day. Make they respond and get it all out in the open.

The perspective, the way he used light to create a sense of distance and mood, the level of detail (in watercolor!!) in the stonework and the house. The ruin gives a sense of longevity, history and continuity. The house with the man on a porch and the horse standing blends into the landscape and almost disappears, adding to the feel of nature's grandeur in the image."

I have a Bicentennial cookbook from the Benton Harbor, Michigan Squaws Incorporated. It was a national women’s group often associated with the African Methodist Episcopal church. They’ve since changed the name to something generic that I can’t remember offhand. Apparently lost a lot of members when they did.

Back in the olden days, you had more media competition--often there were two papers duking it out in major cities or more, you had radio talk shows before massive syndication, etc.

Then came the consolidation into monster media companies where these publications reflected the interests of the suits in the executive suite and institutional investors rather than their captive 'consumers'.

Big Tech skipped the competition phase due to network effects and went straight to feeding noxious propaganda from the suits and institutional investors at the behest of government to the consumers.

Small is beautiful and why the idiotic idea of allowing mergers and acquisitions to produce big corporations inevitably produces bad side effects on society.

229 I remember traveling by car somewhere 20 years ago, my wife wanted to do an orchard and cider tour up and down the east part of the country. Not too early for mobile phone maps and directions so that's what we used. But the phone was telling us to divert because of traffic onto an "escaped negro trail" and there was of course no such road, and was obviously renamed. We just kind of winged it through back roads until we got back on major roads. And we were in a parade of other lost drivers most of the way.
