Wiki-
The Seeress of Prevorst" is a painting by Gabriel von Max that depicts Friederike Hauffe, a German mystic known for her alleged clairvoyance and trances. The artwork reflects themes of spirituality and the supernatural, capturing the essence of Hauffe's experiences as a somnambulist and her connection to mystical phenomena. Interesting, if rather drab, painting. Von Max's paintings are realistic. The details in the bedstead and covers and her clothes are exact. But it's her posture that makes the image so effective. Relaxed, possibly comatose, facial expression and her arms open as if to invite in whatever influences she is receiving. (To my eye there is a hint of crucifixion in the position of her hands.) It is rather haunting but not something I would hang.
Von Max did have a sardonic sense of humor. He did several paintings of monkeys as if doing human things. My favorite is a group of monkeys crowded together, titled "Monkeys as judges of art". Almost 150 years later I agree. Posted by: JTB at December 16, 2025 09:53 AM (yTvNw) 108

Past 100, so. Finn is at the vet. They'll do blood tests and an X-ray. He has never seemed to be in any distress. When I went down this morning at 5:00, there were red splotches on the floor and while I was there, he hacked up a large piece of mucus along with bloody saliva. But he walked up to the car just fine, jumped into the crate on his own and didn't exhibit any further coughing or distress on the trip. The Seeress: Nice work on the hands. Face seems appropriately serene. Who was she? (I'll look for the answer in comments.) Noticing that only bit of color, the pillow or whatever, on the lower right, in a photograph such a random element on the periphery would not seem significant. In a painting, its intrusion seems an odd bit of composition. Maybe it has some significance. Maybe the artist just had some pinkish paint left on the palette after doing her face and hands? The label AI itself is a lie. Simply a gussied up term for machine learning which has been around for awhile--Deep Blue beating Kasparov is an example.
Me - and every other better than average automation guy - have been making self-adjusting control programs since Square D rolled the first system out in the 70s. And before that ? (before classical) It's also believed that they were the same as those referred to as the "Pelset" on an ancient Egyptian stele in the Nile Delta. Erected by the Pharaoh to celebrate his victory over them; it would explain why they ended up in Israel. After being finally defeated in Egypt, they moved 100 miles up the coast and set up shop. The Seeress of Prevorst
Gabriel von Max National Gallery, Prague: The artist may be regarded as one of the founders of symbolism even in the wider European context. His early paintings strongly resonate with the late romanticism tradition. Encyclopedia com: In part, Hauffe, Frederica (1801-1829) "The Seeress of Prevorst," as described in Die Seherin von Prevorst (1829) by Justinus Kerner. Hauffe was born in the village of Prevorst near Löwenstein, Wüttemburg, Germany, in 1801. She married in 1819, and from that time until her death ten years later she was bedridden, subject to various ailments. She had convulsive fits and became rigid like a corpse; in this state she was possessed by spirits. She saw clairvoyantly, made predictions, and exhibited a wide range of psychic phenomena. At one time she spoke only in verse for three days. Occasionally she reportedly saw her own double, clad in white and seated on a chair, while she was lying in bed. (More) The bottom-line is troubled spirits of the dead came to her for help & disclosed secrets of the doings on Earth that had made them restless. She taught while in a trance state & predicted her own death. 😬 Would pass. Thanks. Posted by: L - No nic, another fine day at December 16, 2025 10:39 AM (NFX2v) 278
