23 I don't know if anyone has mentioned this today, but 40 years ago on this day, 248 Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division perished when their chartered plane crashed upon takeoff at Gander Airport in Newfoundland.

They were on their way home from a peacekeeping mission in the Sinai peninsula. Their families were gathered together for a welcome home reception at Ft. Campbell when they got the tragic news.

I remember this vividly. I was living with my grandparents when it happened, and they watched the news while eating dinner. As soon as the story broke, my grandfather got up and walked right up to the TV. I was about to say something, but my grandmother gave me a death stare and I froze.

My grandfather sat back down and said that he flew out of Gander during the war, and there were times when landings were very difficult. Very quiet meal.

54 I was getting swollen tonsils every time I got allergies. And then I'd have to take steroids to get back to normal. 2-3 times a year. So a doctor was thinking about getting me into surgery to have my tonsils taken out which as an adult is a big thing. So they sent me to an ear/nose/throat spec. to check me first.

First thing the bastard did was shove one of those damned camera things down my nose and into my throat. It was one of the most horrible experiences in my life. No pain. Just constant unavoidable gagging. Gagging like you wouldn't believe. And then my stomach started playing along trying to wretch with whole body convulsive spasms. Never felt so weak and inhuman. I wanted to punch that f'er when it was over.

Oma’s Choice. They also make a pretty good single serving buttermilk pie. Good road food. And German pumpkin butter, which is not good road food but amazing. The latter somehow ended up in a gas station a half hour north of me.

Here's what I used to do. I bought a red container of Folger's. Gagged it down until it was used up. Then I went back to buying the good bagged coffee grounds and stored it in the handy Folger's container. Now I have a nice wide mouthed glass jar for my coffee grounds. So I don't have to explain to people that I don't really drink Folger's.

Presumably their fan base peed against the walls by habit, and the university adapted to it.

I had the laryngoscope put up my nose and down my throat a couple of times. Was irritating, but not horrible. More of a burning sensation than a gagging one. The doc was a pro, and a very good communicator.

108 Love the pizza order! With #1 giant son (2oz shy of 10lbs...but he pooped, so I think that counts, due to wrapping the cord around his neck twice:yay for c-sections after a day's labor). I craved Mexican food. I also oddly loved hotdogs with everything on them (I don't like hotdogs normally).

My husband dreamed HE had a c-section for triplet boys and one was blond, the other two Mexican. We did have a Navajo/Mexican college friend who came for dinner that night, so John may be the reason. His dream got two parts correct: the blond single boy and a c-section due to a large head as well as the rest of him.

I don't think I was scary, but when I was hungry, do not get in my way.

So gigantic (not from the back) that people let me in the front of the lines in stores. Got stuck in a turnstile at the airport picking up my mother (who said she got tears in her eyes seeing me).

I got tears in my eyes when frat boys mooed at me in the crosswalk near our house. They were in a convertible and I wanted to jump in and beat them but I was too big. Instead I sobbed and scared my husband until the mooing part when he laughed and then I laughed. Frat bastids.

112 I remember this vividly. I was living with my grandparents when it happened, and they watched the news while eating dinner. As soon as the story broke, my grandfather got up and walked right up to the TV. I was about to say something, but my grandmother gave me a death stare and I froze.

My grandfather sat back down and said that he flew out of Gander during the war, and there were times when landings were very difficult. Very quiet meal.

SMH posted some links up-thread. I went to the "investigation" link, but did not want to watch a 45 minute video. Aircraft was a DC8, and it crashed shortly after take-off. Engine failure? De-icing not done, or done poorly? Pilot error?

Eh, they got theirs from the hex I put on them. Little twits. I should have climbed into the car just to see what they'd do.

My husband usually walked the park with me but was puny or something and I did it alone. In labor, to attempt to speed it up, we walked it twice. That kid was not coming normally, and I am thankful for the c-section or it would have been bad for him.Back then no sonograms were done unless medically necessary.

By the time my OB mentioned a section I did not care if he came out of my ear. The epidural was great!

Scheduled section for #2 due to the big head deal from their Daddy.Far less exciting and all was well once again.All done, altho I wanted one more and hubby talked me out of it. We know it would have been another boy.

139 Couldn't watch the nasotube deal as I had it done as a college girl for sinus stuff then surgery. NOPE!

As a RN I used to put tubes into nostrils to stomachs, and was pretty good at this or shoving things into people. No longer done, but I did it when people were bleeding with ulcers and iced saline lavage. Fun times for us all!

I was in my 20's but looked 16 and somehow convinced patients I knew what I was doing (I did, but do wonder what they thought as I have always looked younger). Had my RN cap on to prove I was not a candy striper wandering in. No one died on my watch who wasn't supposed to when I was charge nurse.

I was very good at starting IV's and liked that.Could still start an IV on anything. I see forehead veins (like Markle's) and want to give it a try. I don't have a forehead vein that bulges like hers, and think it's pretty weird.

Nurses are weird this way to size up your veins in public when bored. Or, I am. I also want to advise people to get moles checked. I really should not be loose in public.

For me last year, they had to bring out the vein-finder after I had fluid infiltration at least 3 times (which means they couldn't get a good line three times on a single IV, three times), and they had resorted to poking veins on the back of my hands. In the end, they shoved a line in my open arm into a large blood vessel.
I rate this the worst vacation I've ever had.

I think he was just freaked out at how things were going. To make it more fun, the baby was 10dys late and I cried every morning he was late. He's still late for many things. I rarely cry.

The doc did not want to alarm me the way things were going, but did say the next day he was thankful the kid refused to go further as things would not have turned out so well for the King of the Baby Nursery.

My BIL, when he saw me, suddenly had pity he did not have prior. Said, "Wow, it was like you carried a 10lb of potatoes." Indeed. Women are amazing.

For me last year, they had to bring out the vein-finder after I had fluid infiltration at least 3 times (which means they couldn't get a good line three times on a single IV, three times), and they had resorted to poking veins on the back of my hands. In the end, they shoved a line in my open arm into a large blood vessel.
I rate this the worst vacation I've ever had.

Sounds like they should always bring out the vein finder. Jeez. My favorite vein is the one below your wrist (on the inside: cephalic). Most people have good pipes there and can still use their hands. In the ED they just do it in your inner elbow. We were taught to start in the lower arm to free that one for emergencies.

In my 7yrs in the newborn nursery and step down NICU I had to start tiny IV's in baby's scalps. I hated that but did it when I had to.

How are you doing? I think you were in the hospital last summer?

The only supportive one was my husband, who feared my wrath as he got me this way.

Our college friend we'd had to dinner (tacos) is half Navajo and half Mexican. So I am pretty sure he had something to do with the dream that night, as well as me declaring I could eat Mexican food every day.

I am used to telling the men in my family what I think. We drove cross country to a new job in FL when the baby was 6wks old. Stopped on my farm in MS and my brother stuck his head in the car and asked, "Is this your milking stall?" I told him to shut up and get out of my way.

And, yes, that baby had a growth spurt and ate a lot as we drove 8hrs/day for 3dys. The truckers probably liked me as we decided we could not stop every 1.5hrs and took our chances with him briefly out of his carseat.

This was in a Sentra with the toddler in his carseat in the front passenger seat (no airbags during the Civil War times). He did get in hot water trying to mess with the gear shift going over the Rocky Mountains. It was a fun time.

Years ago I heard a comedian talking about dreams. He said one second you're falling down a mine shaft, the next you're in a parade. My dreams are that way. Its like being in front of a TV for hours watching different episodes of different TV series. One second I'm in a post apocalyptic hellscape trying to find a place to pee, the next I'm on a road trip with no clue where I'm going on a motorcycle I don't recognize, and the next I'm in a lumber mill, and then I'll finish off on an intergalactic cruise ship from the 5th element. Boys? Mine once melted a block of cheddar cheese on a lightbulb (their lamp) when I let them make a tent in their room on a rainy FL day. I smelled something burning and that's what I found with them quite pleased, as they were camping.

The toddler youngest also gave the fish in their bathroom tank a fluoride treatment once. No one wondered why they died later. One side of the tank was smeared with toothpaste.

I refer to this as the chimp era of life with boys. My husband traveled a lot and I nearly went insane at times, but managed to raise them to be responsible adults. I never was admitted to the psych unit. I did call my husband during the chickenpox quarantine to come home. The only time I did this.

Bless her. The heat got to her. Our house was over a century old and he had to get a window unit for our bedroom. The only time I was happy that summer was in a pool. It was hideous.

My ancient car broke down one day that summer and I just left it in the street. Some men saw me leave it and pushed it out of the way. I didn't even care that I left it, but did thank them and called from somewhere to the man who supported me (I have blocked this part out). It was the old car he courted me in and proof I did not marry him for his money. His car was a stick shift and I did not learn how to drive it til we moved to FL.

It always freaked me out, when he was teaching me in the mountains, to feel the car roll a tiny bit backwards as I shifted into first gear. So I learned in FL.

I have often found myself in class, or in college, having missed most of the semester without the ability to withdraw. I used to run around trying to fix as much of it as I could, but the last few years when those dreams come up, I go, "Well, too late to do anything. I'll go off somewhere else and do something not so stressful." I still do occasionally have dreams where I have to do math, although it's been a couple of years since I had to do some calculus in my dreams (find the volume of a sphere with a hole drilled from one point through the center to the other side...had to wake up to finish that one).

It's been a cold Dec. so far, avg. temp here about 40F compared to normal value for the month so far of about 46F (it's 45F for the whole month of Dec).

I can't remember where my locker is, no clue what classes I should be in, teachers bitching at me for being late, and again, since I know when I'm dreaming I find myself saying in the dream "hey, I graduated, they can kiss my ass, not a damn thing they can do to me. lol

One time though, I was actually back in present day and spent the whole dream wandering around and looking at all the changes.

Food in my dreams often tastes BETTER than in real life. The corn I ate was fantastic! Buttery, intense corn flavor. Tropical fruits were excellent, beyond measure. I even ate a fruit that had a flavor I'd never encountered before.

I manage to see an ISS pass yesterday morning around here at 6:35AM. And there's another one, a little bit more south and not quite as high due around 5:45AM this morning.

These are almost perfect, getting high overhead, taking a long arc from the SW to the NE. It was a cool thing to see, and I'm gonna catch the one this morning for sure.

What surprised me was how far away I could see it. When it first popped up over the horizon this morning, the thing was just coming off Mexico into the Gulf a little north of the Yucatan. That seems a long way considering how low the ISS is, but the math works out. Maximum line of sight distance can be ~1400 miles for ISS orbital height.

I'm guessing you're probably considerably younger. Desperation to find a better job finally drove me to go to graduate school, and I was older than most of my colleagues. I will remove all mystery by pleading to having turned 70 in June of this year.

Btw, I attended the American Graduate School of International Management, better known as Thunderbird, located in Glendale, AZ. It was a great school, and did, indeed, help me get out of the dreary profession of mid-level commercial banking. Sadly, Thunderbird ran into financial problems a decade or so after I graduated, and was ultimately take over by the ASU system.

I don't know which part of the onion this is, but I suspect the brusband was her/the family's own idea, just to get him out of the gay London scene and into college in America. In fact, all that happened before she got into politics.

How/why that happened is a bit mysterious. I've seen quite a few Somali politicians on social media since this came out, all of them of course bitching about this racist hellhole and a promise to elevate Somali concerns above all others. I don't know how they all figured out that getting into office is the way to go in America, but it seems to me like they did. Ilhan did hold a lesser office before she made it into Congress.

As for how (the method), there's evidence that she sent thugs around and threatened Somali householders to vote for her or get beaten up, robbed, whatever.

Last memorable dream I had, was me pushing hubby in his wheelchair down a long slope. There were humps in the path (it was paved) and it was rather steep... Wheee!
I controlled our speed, and we rode down the slope like it was a rollercoaster. We were laughing and having fun, and then suddenly saw the end of the slope-- needed to stop, so I dug-in my feet and sent us into a long, slow, circular slide! Round and round, stopping at the 'landing' which was a level area, on the way to this large old-fashioned building which was our destination. (We were always so goofy like that...)
But there was some time left, so I asked hubby if he wanted to "do it again" down the bumpy slope? The look on his face, said yes-- but then he said "no, we better just go on to the appointment.
A bus was coming through, so I moved us to the side-- and then the ground began crumbling from under us. I screamed for help as I held his wheelchair in one hand and grasped at the edge with the other, to keep us from falling. *****UGH!!!*****

Now that is a smart organization that apparently went around quietly and ferreted out talkative, (wrongly) opinionated, charismatic people and used some expertise to get them into office. Changes are excellent that Justice Democrats got your tax dollars and mine to do their work while GOPers sat by calling for collegiality.

When she was pregnant with my older brother my mother had the cravings for hot dogs with everything.

She had it bad, real bad.
One day towards the end of the pregnancy she and my father were going out of town.

As the story goes she had my father stop at nearly every place they sold hot dogs on the way to wherever they were going.

She got two hit dogs at every stop.
By the end of the trip she’d reached a dozen hot dogs.

I’m guessing the lucky dozen satiated her but it had an unintended side effect, she got sick, real sick, ended up vomiting them all up, while swearing to herself she’d never eat another hot dog for the rest of her life. A promise she kept until her dying day.

In fact, she was so determined to keep that promise that it landed on my brother, who would not (and still won’t) eat a hot dog, or bologna, or Vienna sausages, or anything that remotely resembles tasting like a hot dog. The closest he”ll get is a sausage dog/bratwurst.
