  • Want a high-resolution monitor but still need fast refresh rates for games? Asus' new XG27JG has you covered. (Tom's Hardware)

It's a 5k model which is good enough for almost anything, and runs at 180Hz which is also good enough for almost anything. But if you drop the resolution to 2560x1440 you can boost the refresh rate to 330Hz, which is more than enough.

HDR 600 and 97% of DCI-P3 colour. One small catch: It doesn't work at its full resolution and refresh rate on an Nvidia 4000-series card, because those only support an older version of DisplayPort. Previous generation Radeon 7000 series cards do work, as do all current-generation cards.

    Around $835.

  • Buying 1152GB of Frakenram for $8000. (Tom's Hardware)

The user put an offer in on a second-hand custom Nvidia AI system that originally cost around $80,000 and managed to get it working.

  • Over 10,000 Docker Hub images have been found leaking credentials. (Bleeping Computer)

    It's over 10,000!

My HR has sprung into action with all the energy one expects from Human Resources in a mega-corp and noticed that today is my last day so, perhaps, they should give me a checklist or some shit about what they'd like me to do on the way out the door.

30 For the guys (and gals) trying to build out a decent PC this Christmas without paying over $2000 just to start, JayzTwoCents has an interesting Shopping-Online Build that makes some sense.

"Is this the solution to the DDR5 Crisis?"
https://youtu.be/vwJZztIrQO8

He surfed and found deals on an Intel 12900K (MicroCenter CPU bundle with a motherboard), 32GB DDR4, Gen4 1TB SSD, 1000W PSU, and a RX 9070XT, and got the cost to around $1600 for a pretty decent gaming PC at a reasonable cost.

It's not a bad way to start a PC build the way things are with DDR5 pricing driving up the costs on an AM5 platform build.

You could also substitute some AMD 5000 series processors on a AM4 motherboard if you're not an Intel fan. Jay went with Intel because he believes they had a better product that generation. You could also go with an Intel 13th or 14th Gen CPU and still use DDR4.

62 On the local Fox outlet, stories about the new "Catahoula Crunch," the crackdown by ICE, abound. Employers are worrying about their employees who are on work permits. Well, geniuses, if you'd hired Americans to start with, you wouldn't have anything to worry about, now would you?

I wonder if faculty, and especially staff, at universities are being checked on and sometimes rounded up. My former department was determined to be "diverse," and they continually hired foreign Ph.D.s who always required all sorts of visa paperwork and huge payments to the Feds. I muttered under my breath, "You wouldn't have this problem if you hired an American Ph.D.," but I knew no one would listen to me.

I got in trouble one time because Facilities sent three workers to repair my boss's office ceiling who did not speak any English -- not the usual crowd. I asked their office politely if they could send someone who did, so we could communicate. Some Karen over there complained -- not to me, but behind my back to my boss. He was forced to warn me about "such comments."

68 We'll have mid-70s as highs today and tomorrow -- ugly for December -- a chill Sunday through Wed., then back up to the 70s again by Thursday.

I'd better check and air up the tires on the Buick ahead of the cooldown on Sunday, so they will still be at a proper fill when the temp drops. Soon, too, I need to buy the oil and filter for the next six months. I hate to waste oil -- the little meter in the instrument panel says there is still 40% oil life left after six months, and it is synthetic oil. It can go longer. It's an easy marker for me to remember. And usually at six months the oil life is down to 20-25% with the driving I do here. It's higher than usual this time because of my 2000-mile trip to Indiana in Sept.

I'm using Walmart's own Supertech brand, so I'm not throwing too much money away. If I were running Mobil 1 or Castrol synthetic, I'd need to go longer. But an eight-month or nine-mont interval is harder for me to remember.

84 , “the vast majority of people are good, but blah blah…”

According to Mimetic Theory, people are only as good as their culture.

If your culture is fine with wholesale corruption and rape, then if you are corrupt and rape strangers at knife point, then you are not "bad" - as long as you make justifications for your actions according to your culture.

That is probably why the Globalists want to destroy the WASP ethics and moral structure by flooding the West with alien cultures that often are fully incompatible with the predominant culture.

From God's perspective, we are all condemnable and not a thing we do is Good.

85 I sometimes think of my Grandfather and what he thought about time change. He was a farmer all his life. He could tell time by looking where the sun was at on a certain day. He said they can change the time if they want to but they will come back to my time eventually. Well, he was right.

106 While I’m an original card carrying member of preventive maintenance club, the rational thing here if you’re concerned would be to send off a sample to an oil analysis firm. Lots of short trips aren’t good. It’s important for the engine (and exhaust system) to reach normal operating temperature. This takes a while.

The old duffers who drive 1/2 mile every morning to the coffee club always needed a new muffler, because they would rust out right away.

I challenge you to walk through a parking lot and notice the vast amount of oil drippings all over the pavement. Tell me where does the new additions go during a rain?

That is why they say to drive extra careful on the first rain after a dry spell because the rain floats the oil out of the pavement and the roads are extraordinarily slick.

So where does the oil go?

We think it because we are perfect, we are good, we aren't a bad person, and everyone else is a person too, so if they're all eschatologically boned, then so are we. And gosh darn it that's just not acceptable.

Well, that was cool. An almost perfect pass of the ISS overhead here starting at 6:34 AM and lasting about 7 mins. It popped up over the horizon to the SW, and arced pretty high overhead setting to the NE. It was quite bright, sun to the east right at the beginning of nautical twilight here.

And to top of it, saw a meteor as well while watching the sky. And as I type this, the thing is already close to Britain by now. When it first popped up over the horizon, it was just over the Gulf of America.

It was just about perfect alignment for viewing here.

You are so fortunate to see that. A number of years ago, right at the time of maximum satellite flare in the morning, I witnessed the ISS separating from the space shuttle overhead.

I was expecting it so was out there looking for it and was not disappointed. It was kind of sad that there were also a number of people walking their dogs or just walking / running and not a one stopped to look overhead even when they saw me standing there staring up into space.

I got the "Spot the station" app for the stupid phone. They used to have a website for that, but it's defunct, app only now. It's the best for accurate predictions, as they update the orbital elements all the time. Stellarium is generally pretty good, but the orbital elements sometimes won't update fast enough, especially after boosts and other maneuvers they do from time to time.

I was able to see a good pass a few weeks ago on the evening side. There, it passed into earth's shadow a little bit before halfway through the arc overhead. Unlike small satellites which wink out quickly, the ISS is big and reflective enough that it did a slow fade, turning red (red sunlight through the atmosphere, just like a sunset on the ground) before winking out. That was pretty cool.

BUt I see the morning side is the best when the alignment and terminator are just right. You can see the whole pass with the thing lit up the whole time.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at December 12, 2025 07:06 AM (w6EFb)

133 There's a couple things that occur to me in any kind of approach to all the faith/works/grace/etc armchair theology stuff.

1) You Don't Matter. You're not the center of the universe. Your particular salvation or damnation makes no difference to the workings of the rest of the cosmos.
2) You Are Not In Charge. Any thoughts our little neurons squirt out has no bearing on what is or what must be. It can be a fun exercise to think about stuff and see what we can figure out, but the stakes are Zero. We don't have any say in how any of it goes down, only in how we choose to live our lives before it does.
3) None of it matters if you don't have a solid prayer life and actually talk with the one who is in charge of the process. And if you *do* have that, then none of it matters because you'll already have your feet pretty firmly on the right path to do your job as a soul in a meat suit properly without fretting about the rules other people must follow.

According to AI...

A hepatic arterial infusion (HAI) pump is a surgically implanted device, typically about the size of a hockey puck, placed under the skin in the abdomen to deliver high-dose chemotherapy directly to the liver via the hepatic artery.
