A 65-year-old Thai woman stunned temple staff at a Buddhist temple near Bangkok after she was found alive inside a coffin just before her scheduled cremation. I saw Ace's commentary, and it's weird, because my WW II generation grandparents on both sides liked multicolor lights. The country club side liked the big ones (C7 they call them now) but the salt of the earth ones were into the small "Italian" lights.

However, the regulatory agencies have authority to set various requirements, so Trump is using that authority to de facto eliminate it.

He’d go down to the motor pool and get a creeper and then get under a truck. Tangle his arms up under the engine like he was working on something. Someone walking by, it looked like he was doing repairs or maintenance.

I have only seen references and brief snippets on it, but seems that Trump did something that would, inter alia, make importation of Hiluxes possible. Hope so, though I'm not a likely buyer. I usually post stuff like this on the hobby thread, but - we had a TRS-80 when I was a kid. When I was ten I recalled there was a square-root program in the Basic book when Extended Basic had the SQR() function, which wouldn't allow SQR(-1).
I vaguely knew that SQR(-1) wasn't a thing. (I didn't know about the Imaginary plane of i.)
So I tried running the Basic square-root program. (I didn't know about calculus or Newton then, either. Or the concept of convergence.)
It just kept running and running without any conclusion.
This is why they don't let ten year olds code, I guess.

I understand it, but I don’t know if I can explain it well. It has to with CAFE standards and the way large trucks are legislatively treated differently than cars and small trucks. The formulas are complicated, but short story it was far more profitable to build large expensive trucks than small, and it helped satisfy fleet CAFE standards as well. (Only because of bad legislation). Foreign companies stopped importing them because there’s been a 25% “chicken tarriff” on all small trucks. (And that was long before Trump)
So he has now wiped all that away. Small trucks can be imported and sold again. Personally, I had a couple in the 80’s and 90’s and lovec them.

We already have that…but it’s fine because it’s a cheap, builder grade ceiling fan that was supposed to go away 4 years ago. I over spent my light budget (shock, I know) so I had to get something with a light in it in the upstairs bedrooms to pass inspection. Cheapest I could find. Had I known they would still be there….

I smiled and waved in passing, but avoided getting into any kind of conversation with her. The woman a few houses down was a lesbian, apparently batshit crazy. Always loved blue lights. When I lived alone I had all blue lights on the windows and Christmas tree. Got tired of it after a couple years and went back to multi-color. I don't think it's sustainable in the long term. I wouldn't want all red or green, or white either.

You reminded me of a current code for outdoor outlets. They are manufactured now where you can't just shove the plug in (or a fork) . You have to wiggle the plug prongs until it somehow opens the outlet to allow you to push it in. Ridiculous.

I thought Trump did away with the incandescent ban back in his first administration. Also low-flow in shower heads and appliances.
Problem with all these kinds of things is,
1 First, government bans (or overtaxes) something, the manufacturers go out of business, move overseas, or at best re-tool.
2. Then the other party gets in, and even with good incentives, they have to start up those factories, coal mines, and nuke plants from scratch, build the incandescent market back up, rejigger all the toilets, whatever.
3. Then the regulator party gets back in and the cycle starts over (jump to 1).
Not worth it. Which is why we need to completely and permanently eradicate the whole attitude about regulatory government - yeah, sure. 🙄

Maybe it's time to revisit the Gyrojet action for light machine guns. No recoil, because each projectile is a tiny rocket. No rifling needed, because the rocket jets are tangential, imparting spin. Gun would be very cheap to build. The drawbacks to Gyrojet were low velocity at short range, and poor accuracy. AS a pintle-mounted machinegun, neither of those would very important. Main use would be dealing with mobs.

I was watching a doc on the operation of one of our carriers. Forget which one. Anyway they were showing the kitchen/mess and staff. I swear they did have one sailor that probably was literally slightly retarded. After screwing up a simple task the head of the kitchen ( forget rank) had him do what he thought was even simpler. Told him to put the boxes of bagged roasts in the big vat of boiling water. He came back a short time later and the retard had opened the bags and took the roasts out and put them in the vat. Don't assume anything when instructing a retard.

I'm thinking of switching to LED lights. The problem is there's 30 frigging years of hallmark star trek and star wars ornaments that are powered by removing a bulb from the strand and plugging it in. If I can't remove single bulbs from the strings I'm screwed, and I'm not sure the LED ones work that way. For years I kept thinking about making them their own dedicated harness from 1 single light string, but every year we added more ornaments. The more recent ornaments don't get plugged in anymore and have their own batteries, which is stupid because they don't stay on until you turn them on individually, then they turn off by themselves in like 20 seconds, which makes them frigging worthless as a tree ornament. The only upside is I'm now working with a finite number of "plug in" ornaments and can make the harness.

yeah, this is why the tree takes 3 days. You have to unbox the start trek ornament, pull a bulb, plug in the ornament, make sure it makes contact in the socket so the string don't die, then put the bulb in the ornament box so you know where it is. then to take the tree down you have to leave the lights on as you unplug each ornament, then replace the bulb to make sure the light string lights back up. You get to do this for at 50 frigging ornaments. I swear, I'm tempted to go all kinds of goldfinger, cut a circular hole in the floor, install a hydraulic platform, push a button at my desk and a fully decorated tree appears from the frigging basement.

Elf on the shelf is on the cash register for now, but will be placed back in the box on Caturday Nights-- "What happens in ClubONT, *stays* in ClubONT" of course.
There's shiny garland around the main bar area & a 10ft noble fir just inside the entryway, decked out with bubble lights, guitar lights, multi-colored mini-lights and ornaments Club customers have brought in.

All season we we were yelled at to not close the bathroom door because closing it would cut the rope.

Some type of people get furious about criticism and apparent rejection and pop off. Then escalate when called out on it. Think Jim SND had a similar experience over the same guy wanting to set up stakes card games or somewhat at a momeet. Jim was a gentleman but finally went nuclear which was awesome in the same way a mushroom cloud occurs after a large explosion leaves the target incinerated. Scary but a thing of beauty at the same time.

Full Moon tonight, the Cold Moon of the Long Night, and it's rainy and cloudy here. Just looking at times, the Moon will be above the horizon here for 15 hours and 30 minutes, over 1 hour longer than the sun is at summer solstice. And I can't see it.
While not the absolute maximum it can be, that's pretty close.

I say "high". What this means is the Moon's orbital plane is at it's highest inclination with respect to earth's equatorial plane. This is the "nodal precession" cycle, causing the Moon's inclination to alternately add and subtract from the earth's axial tilt.
Anyway, last summer, the full Moon was about as low in the sky as it can get. When that tilt is high, the full Moon can take it's extremes of altitude in the local sky.
