Top Story

AMD is reportedly planning price hikes to its graphics cards to cover soaring memory costs: An extra $20 for 8GB models and $40 for 16GB models. (Tom's Hardware)

Which is not all that bad.
AMD has also - reportedly - increased prices for its CPUs, which don't contain any DRAM. (Overclock3D)

To add to the mystery, while this increase is supposed to have already happened, nobody seems to know which models are affected or what the increases are. Indeed, the whole thing might just be the end of Black Friday discounts at the distributor level.

Tech News

The Trump administration is planning to take a $150 million equity stake in startup xLight, which aims to make better EUV lasers for chip production. (WSJ) (archive site)

Current EUV fab equipment uses 13.5nm lasers. xLight is planning to bring that down to just 2nm, which is pretty inarguably an x-ray more than UV light.

This takes money from the 2022 CHIPS Act, which apparently still has $6 billion available to spend on chip fabrication facilities.

My goal was to simply give a layman's definition of UPF.

As long as ingredients are legal, it's a manufacturer's right to sell what they want.

However, RFKJ's trend of replacing known unhealthy additives with more benign alternatives is a good thing.

Public awareness is a good thing.

The original YouTube video is worth watching as well.
What this guy had to do to get a "camera" to take photos at 2 billion frames per second is as interesting as watching the light beam. It was really brilliant the way he solved the problem, but it was also a lot of work.

But a lot of the people who voted for her didn't know a single thing about her or her preferred policies. We see this every single election when they interview people on street and ask them what they like about candidate X. All they know is that she was the Democrat.

Probably from twitter. It's good that people can get information but people tend to cement whatever they first hear about an issue in their minds so it also makes it easier to control them.

It's why the left always floods the airwaves with their preferred narrative immediately. They know that a significant fraction of the population will never move off that narrative even if presented with multiple videos of the event, thousands of witnesses, and a signed confession.

It's chilly this am, with wind chill just above freezing. I'm considering working out this afternoon to get in a third session this week, as Thursday and Friday will both be full of rain. Meanwhile, coffee and breakfast are in the plan here. The furry thugs have been fed.

I'll hit Walmart today for cat chow and my own chow, and the library so I'll be stocked with books for the rainy times!

87 Yesterday at a stop light, in my rear view mirror I saw an 18 wheeler coming up behind me fast with smoke pouring off the tires as he was braking. I moved over a lane to give him space to slide thru the intersection but he finally stopped at the last second. I was not able to see the driver.

Lesson is, keep your head on a swivel and check that rear view mirror. There are plenty of drivers out there that should not be behind a steering wheel.

George Will is, and has always been, an elitist. He believes in the magic of credentials. He accept that our American Nobility is smarter than the hoi polloi and will always act from a foundation of noblesse oblige.

He was conservative because the Democrats appealed to the masses. They still do but he understands that their position is false. Trump is the populist now and Will loathes populism almost as much as jeans.
