Wednesday Morning Rant

Cynical Empathy

For a little while now, there has been a new term that keeps cropping up on the internet. That term, which was apparently popularized by Gad Saad, is "suicidal empathy." I think "pathological empathy" is a bit more accurate, but it's more or less the same thing. The "suicidal empathy" concept is that the desire of some - usually leftists, and usually AWFLs - to be "caring" or "compassionate" has become destructive to themselves and the culture.

Cases of rape victims who refuse to describe their attackers when the attacker is a minority because they don't want to accuse a minority of a crime and "contribute to the problem of racism" or somesuch are often pointed out as micro-level examples of "suicidal empathy," as are cases of the parents of children murdered by illegal aliens publicly emphasizing how much they support unchecked migration and the dissolution of borders. At the macro level, examples are usually things like open borders or elimination of prisons. At some point, the desire to "do good" or be one of the "good people" (and not ever a garbage person like those MAGA people!) becomes so destructive as to be fatal. There is some truth to that, at least among individuals.

Individually, I think "suicidal empathy" or "pathological empathy" are very real phenomena and there are countless people who would happily see the entirety of civilization fall to avoid being seen as unempathetic. These are the idiots who will happily ride the train directly over the cliff, celebrating the entire time. It is a huge problem, but it does not explain much of what we see. What we see from many people in power smacks of "suicidal empathy," but there is an obvious undercurrent of naked corruption beneath it.

The prime example from the recent news cycles is the looting of Minnesota by Somalis and the use of stolen Minnesota taxpayer dollars to finance Somali terrorism abroad. In a recent article that Ace covered, a number of state employees place the blame firmly on Governor Walz. In the article was a segment that I think is illustrative of the power elite manifestation of what could be described as "cynical empathy:"

They allege agency leadership handpicked by Walz "willfully disregarded rules and laws to keep fraud reports quiet" and filled top posts with political allies who were "not qualified for their jobs." Staffers who witnessed or documented fraud were "shut down, reassigned and told to keep quiet," the statement said.
...
Walz has pushed back on the criticism, telling The New York Times that his administration "erred on the side of generosity" during the pandemic and disputing claims that concerns about racial optics slowed the state's response.
(emphasis mine)

Tienanmen Tim allegedly knew - or at least, people told him repeatedly - that these programs were being looted by Somalis who then used at least some of the money to finance terrorism abroad. He knew, but did nothing about it. The theft was consistent with his worldview and political objectives. Looting the taxpayers to hand money over to preferred minority groups in openly fraudulent schemes was just fine by him. When called on it, he brushed it off as merely "[erring] on the side of generosity." He justified his behavior with an empathy-based argument.

But is this yet another example of "suicidal empathy?" I don't think so. Unlike the useful idiots who vote for people like Walz so as to be "good people," Tienanmen Tim doesn't believe a word of it. He isn't trying to be "generous." He isn't trying to be compassionate. He isn't exhibiting empathy. He is stealing and supporting his allies - who are, by definition, our enemies - by doing harm to the people of Minnesota. The "empathy" is just a cover.

But it may, perhaps, be a distinction without a difference. Whether suicidal empathy or cynical empathy, the outcome would be the same.

The lefties I talk to support unlimited immigration because:

1) They want cheap labor
2) They want votes for leftwing pols
3) They want to "eliminate whiteness" and cause the great replacement
4) They get paid by the immigration/welfare complex

and on and on

They all have a personal reason and if your average Somali or Spherical Guatemalan was voting R and paying taxes these lefties would be demanding these people be sent home.

Remember the German refugee family that was sent home because the Fourth Reich won't allow home schooling? Hell, how about Elian G? Note...no "empathy" for them...

50 Some of this comes from the playbook of the DoJ Community Relations Service folks. They cajole living victims and family, write press releases, manage information releases, all without fingerprints behind the scenes in any case that involves the possibility that a community might get upset when a politically correct offender does hideous crimes.

In essence, a Democrat protection racket where the careerist and leftist DoJ utilized the power of government to thwart the public finding out the true costs of indulging the left's chosen pets.

CBS story, "A group of civil rights organizations is seeking an order to prevent the closure of a Justice Department office dedicated to preventing unrest and violence in U.S. cities.

The groups are suing for a preliminary injunction to avert the closure of the Community Relations Service, which was launched in 1964 to avert rioting and racial strife in American communities.

The office has been known informally as "America's Peacemaker."

As CBS News reported in April, the Trump administration was planning to shutter the Community Relations Service. "

He was perfection exemplified. The void into which I had been seeking answers for my whole life, from the time I first considered eternity. In this man was pure absence, and it both terrified and exhilarated me. I knew he was to die at the hands of his masters, perhaps fed to feral hogs or shot in the back of the head, left to rot in a Chinese forest, but for that moment, I understood."

166 President Donald Trump pardoned Texas Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife in a federal bribery and conspiracy case on Wednesday, citing what he called a “weaponized” justice system. Trump, who has argued that his own legal troubles were a partisan witch hunt, said on social media without presenting evidence that Cuellar and his wife, Imelda Cuellar, were prosecuted because the congressman had been critical of President Joe Biden’s immigration policies.

HOLEE SHIZZLES‼️

Starting next week, 21 Democrat-controlled states will lose federal SNAP funding for refusing to comply with USDA anti-fraud data requirements.

- in the states that did comply, they found 186,000 dead people social security numbers being used

- 500,000 people that received benefits more than twice

- multiple people received benefits in 6 states

- In February, for the first time ever, the Federal Government asked for alls rates to turn over their data to root out the fraud.
—— 29 Red states said yes
—— 21 Blue states said no

“So as of next week, we have begun and will begin to stop moving federal funds into those states until they comply.

179 David Horowitz talks about this phenomenon in detail in his book Radical Son, and most people who have made the journey away from a leftist world view came to similar observations and conclusions.

Re-evaluation of long standing beliefs is extremely difficult. Admitting you were wrong about something is just a bridge too far sometimes. What I’ve noticed is my leftist friends and co-workers grew old but they never grew up. They are in a seemingly permanent state of adolescence in terms of snark and maturity.

There is another strain of revolutionary mindset, that Horowitz talks about. They don’t care about being hypocritical, and with many, intentions matter, not results. So they are willing to ignore anything that doesn’t comport with how they wish things to be, rather than the reality. Your death before their dishonor, they will not ever admit their philosophy is bankrupt, immoral, or unworkable. Indeed they will double down. The seeds of their destruction is already preordained in that sense, the problem as always is the collateral damage to everyone elee.

The 20th century alone witnessed maybe 100 million murdered by their governments, experimental totalitarians.

Here is the flip side and may be of some use in debate with the limp-wrists --

If I directly robbed someone of their hard earned possessions however meager I deserve whatever it takes for them to stop me from robbing up to suffering painful mortal wounds if not outright killed if that is what it takes to stop me.

Anyone who robbs anyone has earned that end.

Anyobe who opposes it is an accessory to robbery and deserves the same fate.

190 "Suicidal empathy" is just mental illness. It's not new either. The pathology of deliberately choosing bad options that almost certainly will result in misfortune or even death has existed since caveman times. It's particularly pronounced in political decisions, and always has been.

How many people lined up to vote for -- and supported -- dictators who were little more than vicious thugs? Marx was a disgusting, filthy human maggot (literally), but he understood this far better than most. His idea -- brilliant, really -- was to package this pathology in shiny boxes with "we are all equal" stamped onto the sides. It worked, sadly.

It's been my observation that con men and fraudsters always take advantage of do-gooders, as I use to call them. Some do-gooders want to throw a bunch of money to help some poor people or some bad situation, and the fraudsters line up to help, and of course skim off the top big time.

This toxic empathy thing is the same thing, but it's much worse than mere do-goodery. It's well beyond that. And the fraudsters come right in with that as well, and they are even worse. Rather than just stealing from the taxpayers, their fraud becomes even more destructive as well, such as funding terrorists.

Carol Gilligan would regard both being cast as hetero normative and put on the show to be subject to the male gaze.

Instead, someone like Trigglepuff and that female? lecturer (in a sky cap and yelling in a pix) at Univ. of Missouri during BLM protests should have been cast.

No odious male satisfaction would occur but body positivity exhibited by Trigglepuff along with gender fluidity and the obvious female empowerment by the lecturer constantly yelling at the patriachy and reeducating the males on the island to accept gender fluidity could be shown instead. This is what entertainment should be like under Carol Gilligan (and somewhat how Kathleen Kennedy probably feels as well).

Pretty much except sometimes Scotus gets involved if the appellate court discards the law and sides with the lower court.

The Golden Rule applies on matters like food stamps where the Feds are paying all of it. He who has the gold, makes the rules for those wanting a piece of it. The states have to follow what the federal government wants in such matters. There is no 10th Amendment carve out for taking fedbucks and then ignoring what the feds want in return.

See South Dakota v Dole about the spending clause strings that fedgov can put on states receiving the aid. In that particular case, it was the requirement that states raise their speed limit which is much more intrusive than asking for information about how fed money is spent.

Legally, the lower courts literally have no ground to stand on except Orange Man Bad in this matter.

I use it both ways (because of course I do!). I pronounce it "nitch" when it just a couple of us guys talking informally about free agency in sports or something of the sort, and then use the "neesh" version of it when its a conversation about a high end watch, automobile, or house.

By the way toby and Cicero, thank you both for responding to my "flares" I launched in the overnight thread last night! I'll get with CBD or JJ or someone to get my home posting privileges restored (hopefully!).

Because as Aristotle put it, you fight rhetoric with rhetoric, not dialectic which is a traditional conservative tactic. The argument by Democrats traditionally is solely at the level of feelings, not logic.

So you reply with something like lazy freeloaders, parasites on working people, welfare queens, or lazy cheaters. That is how rhetoric works. Instead, conservatives debate using a long didatic dialectical discussion of how long term receipt of benefits actually undermines positive development of recipients into people working in the community.

Rhetoric is purposefully designed to win debate fights for demagogues but the advantage of good rhetoric based in facts is that it persuades more people than bad rhetoric based solely on feels and unicorn sparkly farts.

Gretchen Goes To Nebraska is woefully underrated, especially since Ty Tabor got one of the greatest rock guitar tones ever produced on those first 4 albums (using a weirdo Fender Elite Strat and a solid-state Lab Series L5 amp). The decline started when he changed over to generic Mesa-Boogies on Dogman.

As for Doug Pinnick, great voice, good bassist and I couldn't have cared less about him being gay. Then he started singing about being gay and calling his own audience bigots. Douchebag.

I still have Gretchen on my shortlist of desert island albums.

He is required to appear for a deposition at the Capitol on December 17.

369 Something bothering me today in the news headlines is the repub ONLY won by 8%.

That's an easy win. Nashville is still a blue city in a red state. and this was an off year, off month election. I just don't get why its a story.

370 I think the suicidal empathy is more a thing with the voters than with the people they vote for.

As I’ve intimated in the past, I wonder if my generation (Y/older Millennial) just never grew up enough to realize that life is not movies/TV, and subconsciously assume every immigrant is Fievel, every environmental issue is Captain Planet or FernGully, every CEO is Mr. Burns, and any strident military/police action that upsets them is the Galactic Empire.

Walz has pushed back on the criticism, telling The New York Times that his administration "erred on the side of generosity"

See how easy it is to be generous with other people's money? Other people's property? Other people's kids?

375 And that definitely is the case with younger Millennials. Anybody they don’t like is explicitly equated to Voldemort.

376 The Grinch was the hero of the story. He never hated Xmas. He hated people. He just wanted to be left alone. What's wrong with that?
Posted by: Elric The Blade

He also refused to leave other people alone and took action to destroy their happiness because the existence of their happiness made him miserable.

It's not like the Whos were coming up to his cave and bugging him to join them. They were leaving him alone as he wanted and that wasn't good enough for him.

377 The dearly-missed Oregon Muse (R.I.P.) once linked a helpful image (I also have difficulty figuring out how to pray -- and unsure if this equally applies to Jews as well as Christians) and mnemonic acronym [scroll down the web page linked below to find a similar image]:

The P.R.A.Y. acronym stands for:
. Praise;
. Repent;
. Ask; and
. Yield.

378 Funny thing, the book was inspired by Ted Geisel being frustrated by the suffocating commercialism of the Christmas season (and this was only in the 50s), and trying to articulate what he thought the good of Christmas was (without being particularly religious, because he wasn’t, he was a good mostly-agnostic lefty to the point that when Chuck Jones’ animated version was going to show a star descending down on the Whos near the end, he objected and insisted it rise *up* from them instead).

The Grinch was basically the misanthropic side of Dr. Seuss himself.

Posted by: He learned almost too late, that Moron is a feeling creature at December 03, 2025 12:40 PM (KzDOI)

379 Maybe it wasn’t Seuss who wanted the star to rise up, but there was definitely concern that having it descend down was too overtly Christian. I’m trying to figure out where I specifically read this, no luck yet. But I do feel like Seuss was not particularly religious - he definitely had very secular lefty sensibilities (not Marxist, but he loathed Nixon and Reagan and railed about the environment and nuclear war)

380 I agree with JM. The Dems have adopted the language of females and just ooze sympathy and caring. As when Gavin Newsom's chief of staff was arrested for theft, he said he worried about her children. What?

And then they also have major emotional freakouts like this Aftyn B. from Nashville, and Nashville voted 77% for her! The emotionalism is like a drug.

They appeal to women this way through emotion. That's why so many women vote Dem.

381 I'd like to see calls for Walz to be tried as an international war criminal. If he knew the money was at least partially being funneled to terrorists, then he's at least partially responsible for the deaths and destruction created by those terrorists.
