Diana is doing amazingly well. Her appetite has improved a lot and she gobbles down her breakfast and dinner. Her energy is much better and she's filling out. If you didn't know, you'd think there's nothing unusual about her.

But he is very good on the leash, he heels until he is told he can break, he sits when I stop, he waits until I tell him to go through the door, he knows down, place (which still needs work), but his recall off leash remains nonexistent. When they're little calves, like the two dozen or so recently born here, they run and play like cute dogs.

Which is always ironically amusing, considering how after a short while, they don't run and play anymore.

But last month, when a mama cow and several calves walked across the cattle guard into the living area, and we went out in the little red pick-em-up to herd them back, mama at one point got to jump and run surprisingly lively. Livelyly?

We had a Basset Hound when I was a kid. We'd let him roam with us in the woods. A few times some of the neighbor's cows got on our property, and he went into beast mode, chasing the cattle.

You'd see those cows jump about a 4' fence, and he'd jump right after them.

I think management started to wince when they handed out stuff like that to me. I tended to start free associating until I ran out of time, patience or room in the boxes.

One "confidential information training" module we did had us give feedback, and I started giving "bad Amazon Reviews". It took them 7 months before they gave me a reprimand for wasting time. (The way management smirked at me the day before meant they kept passing it around and laughing, but had to keep pushing it up the chain to the 3rd floor so they justify passing it around)

The easiest way to beat the Chinese would be to just buy up all the fuel on the black market near the military bases. Everything staged would get stolen and there's no vroom vroom to go with the boom boom. As I understand it military wise, stuff that just sits there is easier to deal with.

I was deployed to NOLA in June/July 2010 for the oil spill no one talks about anymore. Weird.

Anyhow, 100 percent humidity every day with a high of 82 and a low of 82 was beyond my experience. Walk outside and your soaked in sweat. Oh, it's raining? No real difference. There was one day when it cooled off and I got to walk through the French Quarter and see the Cathedral and stuff, but mostly miserable.

Sweating your balls for 2/3 months in summer with no A/C is easy. Even few weeks when the overnight low might be in the 100s. Blah, blah, blah.

Used to have to cut wood and split it for wood burning stoves on the winter... once i moved out folks got a gas burner... and A/C not long after that.

Considering the whole of Texas, I think the zone between Austin and San Antonio is probably the best climate in the entire state. Don't get the hurricanes, next to no ice or snow, tornados nothing like the north half. Fairly predictable weather year-round.

OTOH, East Texas around Gilmer / Longview has "seasons", its generally cooler, but that means nothing because of the humidity is downright oppressive.

But I have A/C everywhere and its only August/September when its too oppressive to go on bicycle rides or run.

The limestone lakes in the Hill Country are fairly clear compared to the murk in ETX. But ETX has the water and the trees so I like it here better than anywhere else in the State.

For a lark during the winter of '92, I rode my bike through the snow from Case to Wells Hall for my German class. Not only that, I wore shorts (with thermal boxers, tho).

Kind of freaked out the class once the snow melted off my legs. It was fine, the only issue being that the fluid in my joins began to congeal, making pedaling more sluggish. Very peculiar sensation.

Were you in any of the massive snowball fights? They were gettig pretty crazy in the 1990s.
