Fascist Government Shows Its Authoritarianism By Responding to Voters' Wishes
Kristi Noem says "We don't want them [third world criminal immigrants]."
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Monday delivered one of the strongest border-security demands yet of the Trump administration's second term, urging President Trump to enact a sweeping travel ban on "every damn country" sending violent offenders into the United States. Noem revealed the recommendation in a blistering post on X shortly after meeting with the president, saying the nation can no longer accept foreign nationals who, in her words, are "flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies." Noem framed the proposal as a necessary break from the failed leniency of the Biden years. "Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom -- not for foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS," she wrote, adding a final line aimed squarely at the countries she argues are exploiting U.S. generosity: "WE DON'T WANT THEM. NOT ONE." A DHS spokesperson told the New York Post that the department will soon publish the list of countries facing new restrictions. ... In the immediate aftermath of the attack, the State Department halted visa processing for Afghan passport holders, a move intended to prevent additional entry from the same channels that admitted the alleged gunman.It's not just the terrorists, and it's not just the Somali pirates stealing a billion dollars from us and sending it back home to fund Al-Shaabab terrorism against us. That may explain why mail delivery service has gotten so bad (at least it has in my neighborhood). Plus, there's been a huge increase in greeting card envelopes being opened to see if there's any money inside. I haven't done any business through the mail (paying bills, etc.) for years.

I have come to agree with some of the Morons here. No more immigration. Moratorium, for at least two decades. No immigrant visas or permanent alien visas shall be issued. Guest worker visas - like the hated and abused H-1B - must be explicitly prohibited from having a "path to citizenship." You do your specialty short-term work and then go home, and get a princely wage in exchange.
The *only* exception I can see is the EB-1 visa or similar new visa, for truly outstanding technical geniuses. We actually *do* want the next Einstein or Fermi. There aren't many of them. The rest can wait a couple of decades or more.

This is the difference between being affluent and being wealthy. You can be affluent and flat broke. I know a bunch of people like that. You can be middle-income - or even no income at all - and be quite rich. There are fewer of those, but still many of them.
Different problems and priorities to be sure, but that also *shouldn't* matter because the state shouldn't be incentivizing some at the expense of others ("picking winners and losers").

The routes are managed by a supervisor, and the mileage is fixed, and the fuel and maintenance cost is set for a year. A rise in fuel prices or parts will beggar a contractor. One way to minimize costs is to hire cheap drivers. Contracts, if the rural carriers are an example, are for one year.
If the companies say "no se puede" and offer to void the contract, then the USPS has to either find more expensive drivers to fill the holes, or deliver between cities by foot.

I think the exclusive delivery of letters is made up by the USPS, not by any constitutional law - They should be able to get by with a building full of auditors, and postal inspectors to follow up on theft, and contract everything out to private carriers. It would be a goat screw, but that honestly is the operating tempo and sop of the USPS

Too much attention to groups, then you automatically assert a general proposition about all members of such a group. There is a happy medium and that is when a group mostly demonstrates undesirable qualities as a general rule, then something should be done about it.
Same with an individual who repeatedly demonstrates asocial qualities ( a criminal for example) then society and law have a right to compel them to stop. We have the equal protection of laws for protection of groups (religion has the 1st Amendment), and we have due process to protect fairness for individuals.

Back then, the worst drivers were the ones that came down from Canada. They were usually hours over their limit on driving hours. They were usually hopped up on speed. Employed, unemployed for example. Welfare recipient, non welfare recipient, even race when one is dealing with anti discrimination laws.

And that is simply because the state lacks the ability and resources to treat everyone as an individual in every single matter. And most people probably wouldn't like it if the state did. Same as no one really wants perfect 'justice' when applied to them.

Leaving the insurance--who passes that on to you--with a several hundred K loss.

For example, as socio economic status increases, the predilection to vote increases. So if you want to increase voting by shy Trump voters, then you best be able to accurately describe why they don't vote for standard Republicans but do turn out for Trump.
I don't let my predilections undermine being able to conduct empirical analysis.

The Darien Gap.
It's where's the Pan-American Highway ends because the area is jungle and swamp. If the gap didn't exist you could drive from Canada to Argentina.
It used to be basically impassable, but with the migrant waves of recent years it's got UN refugee camps and the local native tribes act as guides for pay through some trails.
I doubt it's as active now thanks to Trump cutting off the flow, but the gap is not as treacherous as it used to be.
It's still a big choke-point, though.

The Darien Gap.
It's where's the Pan-American Highway ends because the area is jungle and swamp. If the gap didn't exist you could drive from Canada to Argentina.
It used to be basically impassable, but with the migrant waves of recent years it's got UN refugee camps and the local native tribes act as guides for pay through some trails.
I doubt it's as active now thanks to Trump cutting off the flow, but the gap is not as treacherous as it used to be.
It's still a big choke-point, though.

They first have to navigate through the Colombia/Panama border which doesn't seem to have a *single* road through it. They *might* be able to move the drugs via horses/mules through obscure jungle paths, but good luck with that. The only way to move large quantities of drugs out of South America is by air or water, both of which are easily monitored.

You just have to be careful when trying to mix apples and oranges in these cases. You can draw lines on one chart, and get a group and give it a name, but reapplying it to the real world and mixing it with other groupings is chancy and should be treated with skepticism.

As someone that used to do substantial empirical models, that goes without saying. For the most part, the difficulty is not in determining groups but whether or not a concept is useful. Sometimes it is in there simply as a statistical control variable. For example, surveying political attitudes in an electorate. Like it or not ethnicity affects voting patterns of groups.
In a sense, all such groups in social sciences are heuristics whether we are using states as the key dependent variable, historical eras, etc. Plus one can often have different ecological issues--what is true at one level may not be true at another.
In essence, all social science is probability based because it has to be. About like track odds at a horse race. The better models predict and explain. The worst models simply explain after the fact (e.g. the horrible post 2012 GOP post election analysis).

Cartels have been bringing drugs to the US from South America on land routes for a long time. Problem is the Mexican border is now closed, finally. One way or another Venezuela is kind of screwed. So are the rest of the cartels. It's not just Venezuela's boats that are getting targeted.
