I don't know why. Because Democrats will be mad at them. But other Republicans have unveiled their redistricting plan to spit Democrats up so that Indiana's 7 to 2 delegation can become a clean sweep of nine Republicans to zero Democrats. (If things work out -- there are no guarantees.)Ron "The Meatball" DeSantis says he'll call a special legislative session early next year in order to pass a redistricting map for Florida. Note that DeSantis seems to be saying he must redistrict if the Supreme Court overturns the unconstitional judge-made rule that districts must be drawn on racial grounds. But I don't know if he's saying that if the Supreme Court punts on this issue, he'll redistrict anyway. In the meantime, we're waiting for results from the special election in Tennessee 7, a +10 Trump district in which an absolute maniac even further to the left than AOC is actually within two points of winning the seat and narrowing the deadly-thin GOP majority still further. If you're in the district, you must vote. It's critical.

The sad truth, as we all see it, is that Democrats are less-principled and more vindictive when they get back into power.
It's a gut check for any Republican to want to go directly against that. Historically, as I see it, the Democrat is the party of the more willful voter and politician. Posted by: Axeman at December 02, 2025 02:36 PM (krQz2) 20

These large cities in Red states are suicidal. It's insanity that the polls are this close. --------------------------------- Well, polls are polls [spit], but it is true that little centers of blue retardation in red states have been given WAY too much leeway (e.g. "youths" taking over intersections to race around in their cars in Austin TX). Blue states go out of their way to make people miserable in their states. A rural enough area can ignore them (like Western PA ignoring mask mandates in 2020), but cities are easy targets. If state legislatures wanted to crack down on the really abysmal level of governance and corruption in Dim run cities, they easily could. Posted by: TheJamesMadison ======== Nope, many of these GOP members in Deep Red states are in fact moderate Democrats in previous times. It is just they cannot get elected anymore as Democrats so they pose as them in GOP primaries in order to get elected and act like Democrats. Texas state leg has had a particular problem with those types particularly in the TX House. Georgia has had a problem with fake GOP in executive offices like Sec of State and Atty General if not the governor. Florida has DeSantis at times fighting his own GOP when they try to protect and delay changes in the law regarding illegals. Open primary states are the worst as you often get Democrat kibitzers pushing candidate selection toward the left in GOP primaries when they have no candidates competing themselves. Which is 100% the problem of lefties and RINOS: they all want to be picked and popular. Versus doing what's right. Mike Pence, on the other hand, was apparently engaged in just that sort of misbehavior urging Indiana state legislators to reject redistricting. That is the traditional GOPe way to smother, kill, and destroy any conservative legislation or even legislator. Remember how Nunes was backstabbed by Paul Ryan when Ryan allowed a fake ethics investigation to sideline Nunes so that the rotten fake pee pee document and Russia Russia conspiracy was kept live. What the IN legislators are upset is that they will now have to act in the open whether to shelve or redistrict and their votes will be taken into account if they don't by GOP voters. -------------------------------- There's not enough data to say. People were freaking out about the special elections for US House in FL and the GOP won easily. State level special elections in IA and PA haven't gone well, but I live in the State Senate District that a hobo-looking Dim won in PA, and the county GOP put out voter information with the wrong election date. So there was just raw complacency if not sleepwalking. Assholes like Mark Levin have programmed us to think that red areas are turning blue all the time. At times it's true, but not because of people moving in (who are more conservative). But people who have lived for decades in a Nashville suburb might be sipping non-stop libtard propaganda at this point. So who knows.
Posted by: the lower depths I think local and state GOP have atrophied in many red states simply because GOP pols and campaign professionals dislike GOTV particularly the squishy ones. The Dems had that problem and the techlords came up with ways to use their NGO universe to GOTV instead of the Dem apparatus. Outsourcing more or less. The 2004 election is what caused that to occur as the techlords thought Horse faced Kerry should have won against Shrub and they blamed the self serving Dem party apparatus for it occuring. Aftyn Behn is from Knoxville, a graduate of a private school there, is one of four children (apparently), and insofar as a quick search of the internet reveals, has never worked. He father is an accounting professor at U. of Tennessee. Here is the problem person who raised Aftyn:
Then there’s her mother, the ultimate cheerleader in homemaker mode, who’s been on a profound personal trek. A recovering Jehovah’s Witness, she’s spent years peeling back layers of doctrines that sidelined women, emerging fiercer for it. She didn’t just keep the home fires burning; she lit a match under Aftyn and her kids, insisting they raise their voices no matter the room. At Aftyn’s swearing-in ceremony back in 2023, Mom stole the show, dubbing it “pink girl power summer” and boasting how her daughter has always amplified the voiceless—even if it means getting mic’d off. 129 It's ironic, but I think we have Rush Limbaugh to blame for that state of affairs. Not many people thought that this could ever be a thing until he came up with Operation Chaos as a stunt that actually had some legs to it.
Posted by: Darrell Harris Not really, most Southern states have open primaries because it used to be that the Democrat primary was the only one that counted. Later on, the GOP kept them figuring maybe if they voted GOP for the presidential primaries then they might vote GOP in other races. Now they are counterproductive. IRRC Operation Chaos was actually based on a state that did not have open primaries, Pennsylvania. Limbaugh asked PA GOP, which he claimed approximately 100k did so, to change their party registration to Dem just to vote for Hillary over Obama. Hillary won. Now health care insurance, particularly for the independent carpenters, plumbers, etc. are soaring on the exchanges along with every other stupid financialization of our economy. Those are the occasional voters that have to be delivered and they will only do so for a candidate that walks the walk as well as talks the talk. Note that DeSantis seems to be saying he must redistrict if the Supreme Court overturns the unconstitional judge-made rule that districts must be drawn on racial grounds. But I don't know if he's saying that if the Supreme Court punts on this issue, he'll redistrict anyway.
Posted by: Ace at 02:30 PM I think he's saying that a Supreme Court ruling could force them to redistrict even if they had already just done that, so they might as well wait and see what the controlling judicial rubric is. I visited NY and you have to see it to believe it. The illegal aliens have it better than the citizens. These people can commit any crime and the get released. Drunk driving and automobile accidents are rampant. They give these people every handout imaginable. They get EBT cards, SNAP, Medicaid and all kinds of housing assistance. Drivers licenses and insurance isn’t a problem. The SBA or whatever is still handing out loans. They’re in the car dealers leasing BMW’s and $85,000 F-150’s. The schools are overwhelmed and all the taxpayer funded resources are going to the illegal kids for ESL and all kinds of personal instruction. They’ve taken a lot of the local jobs especially in construction and the trades. It’s an invasion.

Posted by: bear with asymmetrical balls It isn't helped by a lingering elite attitude based partially on class about those with no college education. Both Democrat and GOP elites disdain them and yet give white males and females without college degrees little enough to vote for. This is despite the fact that they are one of the largest blocs of voters--the Dems turned toward teh AWFLS and POC, the GOP prefers the corporate class while pining after the AWFLs that used to vote GOP before abortion became a big issue. Seems universal. Tories in UK disdained the working class that did not appreciate how diversity made things cheaper for the elites with better ethnic food choices, Ditto for Ma Merkel. And this is while the left in both Germany, UK, and even France abandoned the native voters for the educated elites nattering on about bullshit while the poors and producers in those society are drowning. It amazes me how little the term "gerrymandering" is being used by the media in reporting about this conflict, even though it is entirely about...gerrymandering.
The reason the Democrats don't accuse the GOP of "gerrymandering" is that they don't want to then be accurately accused of also gerrymandering. But let's be frank here -- that's exactly what both sides are doing -- gerrymandering. Now everyone uses the euphemism "redistricting," as if that will someone wipe away the bad associations with the old word. California's Prop 50 was nothing more than "Let's gerrymander the shit out of this entire sate," but it was presented in completely positive terms. Seriously, voting behavior is largely tied to education levels. No one's figured out how to get the lesser educated to decide to turn out to vote in every election. Obama and his team couldn't figure it out in the 2010s, and Trump and his team are having trouble figuring it out now.
It will require a complete revamp of how to do electoral politics, at least, to change that behavior. Posted by: TheJamesMadison One part is simple in theory , difficult in practice. Government has to be for the benefit of the general population, not the elites and those shy voters have to see politicians actually struggling like Trump instead of cruising on easy street by working the system. And that means a lot of the 'muh principles' go by the wayside like absolute free trade, killing Medicare or Social Security, etc. Struggling voters that have been impoverished by elites from both parties since 1970's, getting rid of a safety net is a no go. Campaign resources need to be shifted away from the party organizations and into ngos that is their one job--to turn out voters. Party organizations inevitably end up being incumbent protection rackets because of network linkages and insider benefits. Now this is a big Canadian and US bank, yes?
TD Bank has been hit with over $3 billion in penalties and has pleaded guilty to criminal charges for systemic failures that allowed money laundering networks, including those tied to drug traffickers and fentanyl sales, to move hundreds of millions of dollars through its system. In October 2024, it agreed to pay a $3 billion penalty to the U.S. government in a money laundering settlement and pleaded guilty to criminal charges, becoming the first U.S. bank to do so. The settlement resolved a long-term investigation into the bank's failures to prevent criminal networks from moving over $670 million through the bank, including drug money. As a result, TD Bank faces restrictions on its U.S. business growth and a multi-year monitoring period. And so, is it important to stop illegal drug movement into and through the United States? Few people are noting that gerrymandering can sometimes backfire spectacularly.
The whole principle of gerrymandering is baed on two strategies: "packing" and "cracking." You want to "pack" as many of the opposing side into one overstuffed district, and the "crack" apart your own overstuffed districts and distribute the voters judiciously in surrounding districts, so you win every district with about 52% of the vote. Meanwhile, the other side will win their one district with 90% of the vote, with most of those votes thereby "wasted." But if you calculate wrong, or is voters preferences shift significantly -- cough Hispanics and blacks suddenly become pro-Trump cough -- you can unwittingly make a district that your sides barely loses, results is self-gerrymandering. Let's hope that happens to the Dems. Posted by: zombie at December 02, 2025 03:32 PM (oraVG) 334
