Indiana Republicans Unveil New Restricting Map That Could Result in Two More GOP House Members, But It's Unclear if Indiana RINOs Will Pass It

RINOs are balking about redistricting because... I don't know why. Because Democrats will be mad at them.

But other Republicans have unveiled their redistricting plan to spit Democrats up so that Indiana's 7 to 2 delegation can become a clean sweep of nine Republicans to zero Democrats.

(If things work out -- there are no guarantees.)

The move comes as President Donald Trump pressures Republicans across the country to redistrict in order to bolster the GOP's chances of holding the House in 2026.
Indiana currently has 7 Republicans and 2 Democrats in Congress. The proposed map would split the current Democratic-leaning districts into the other GOP-leaning districts and divide the blue-leaning urban areas, Politico reported.
It remains unclear whether the legislature will pass the plan, though Trump has urged them to do so.

Ron "The Meatball" DeSantis says he'll call a special legislative session early next year in order to pass a redistricting map for Florida.

"Yeah, so we're going to redistrict," DeSantis told The Floridian on Monday, according to NOTUS.
The governor said that the timing of redrawing the state's congressional map will depend on the results of a voting rights case before the Supreme Court.
The case is regarding the legality of Section 2 of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, which has been interpreted as the enforcement mechanism for the 15th Amendment. The statute allows judicial relief for a voter if they believe their right to vote is being infringed upon on the basis of race.
"The argument in October about Section 2 of the VRA, that impacts Florida's maps, so we're going to do it next spring," DeSantis said. "I am going to talk to [state Senate Majority Leader Ben Albritton] about when it makes sense to do it, but that will be done. I think we are going to be required to do it because of this court decision."
Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power said last month that he expects Republicans to gain three to five House seats under the new redistricting proposal.

Note that DeSantis seems to be saying he must redistrict if the Supreme Court overturns the unconstitional judge-made rule that districts must be drawn on racial grounds. But I don't know if he's saying that if the Supreme Court punts on this issue, he'll redistrict anyway.

In the meantime, we're waiting for results from the special election in Tennessee 7, a +10 Trump district in which an absolute maniac even further to the left than AOC is actually within two points of winning the seat and narrowing the deadly-thin GOP majority still further.

When you redistrict to add more GOP seats, you are taking red districts and making them less red by moving some of the red votes to the new district.

So R+10 might go to R+5. The RINO homos in R+10 districts want to stay R+10. They don't want to have to actual service constituents in a R+5 district. They'd much rather have the R+10.

Look, I'm not one who's going to say that voting isn't critical. In my town in CT where I'm the Republican chair, our First Selectman was voted in by *five* (5!) votes. The rest of the state got smoked by the Democrats.

That's simply not the case. Unless the Trump +10 (or, as I recall, T +20) district has a catastrophic voting machine failure, this is not going to be a problem for our side. Not a reason to sleep on it, of course, but not a problem.

It will reflect nothing, no matter what the result is (from R+100 to D+100).

And yeah...it's probably going to be much closer to the FL special elections earlier this year than anything else. Comfortable wins, smaller than in 2024, but won't reflect anything for the 2026 race in that district because...turnout differentials are a thing.

68 Speaking as a Hoosier and having looked as the redrawn maps, there is some legitimate thought about actually losing a seat instead of picking up 2 - as big city rot has creeping in. My town (Jeffersonville) is building like mad - and there are shades of blue creeping in where there shouldn't be - 5k+ people in less than 5 years.

Has to be the same for Indy and Fort Wayne areas.

I think that's what they are afraid of but what do I know - as I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. :-)

Texas state leg has had a particular problem with those types particularly in the TX House. Georgia has had a problem with fake GOP in executive offices like Sec of State and Atty General if not the governor. There's not enough data to say. People were freaking out about the special elections for US House in FL and the GOP won easily.

State level special elections in IA and PA haven't gone well, but I live in the State Senate District that a hobo-looking Dim won in PA, and the county GOP put out voter information with the wrong election date. So there was just raw complacency if not sleepwalking.

Assholes like Mark Levin have programmed us to think that red areas are turning blue all the time. At times it's true, but not because of people moving in (who are more conservative). Not really, most Southern states have open primaries because it used to be that the Democrat primary was the only one that counted. Later on, the GOP kept them figuring maybe if they voted GOP for the presidential primaries then they might vote GOP in other races. Now they are counterproductive. IRRC Operation Chaos was actually based on a state that did not have open primaries, Pennsylvania. Limbaugh asked PA GOP, which he claimed approximately 100k did so, to change their party registration to Dem just to vote for Hillary over Obama. Hillary won.

I think local and state GOP have atrophied in many red states simply because GOP pols and campaign professionals dislike GOTV particularly the squishy ones. The Dems had that problem and the techlords came up with ways to use their NGO universe to GOTV instead of the Dem apparatus. Outsourcing more or less.

The 2004 election is what caused that to occur as the techlords thought Horse faced Kerry should have won against Shrub and they blamed the self serving Dem party apparatus for it occuring.

Not really, most Southern states have open primaries because it used to be that the Democrat primary was the only one that counted. Later on, the GOP kept them figuring maybe if they voted GOP for the presidential primaries then they might vote GOP in other races. Now they are counterproductive. IRRC Operation Chaos was actually based on a state that did not have open primaries, Pennsylvania. Limbaugh asked PA GOP, which he claimed approximately 100k did so, to change their party registration to Dem just to vote for Hillary over Obama. Hillary won.

I think it is a bit more complicated than that. White males without a college degree are pretty much done with perfumed typical GOPe assholes that promise a lot but deliver little. They still see their jobs being taken by illegals from the corporate GOPe types and their jobs outsourced to foreign lands. Inflation, including critical cars and trucks prices are unaffordable. Now health care insurance, particularly for the independent carpenters, plumbers, etc. are soaring on the exchanges along with every other stupid financialization of our economy.

Those are the occasional voters that have to be delivered and they will only do so for a candidate that walks the walk as well as talks the talk. They like Trump but a lot of other GOP candidates remind them of theater kids and student government types in high school and their dealings with greasy corporate types.

I've heard that putting a litterbox and clothes from the family might help the cat break out of the feral mode scared cats can get into and get them to return. Also they tend to hide surprisingly nearby but might not respond to calls. Check for any closed sheds and garages and have the owners open them up for you.

Both Democrat and GOP elites disdain them and yet give white males and females without college degrees little enough to vote for. One part is simple in theory , difficult in practice. Government has to be for the benefit of the general population, not the elites and those shy voters have to see politicians actually struggling like Trump instead of cruising on easy street by working the system. And that means a lot of the 'muh principles' go by the wayside like absolute free trade, killing Medicare or Social Security, etc. Struggling voters that have been impoverished by elites from both parties since 1970's, getting rid of a safety net is a no go.

Campaign resources need to be shifted away from the party organizations and into ngos that is their one job--to turn out voters.

Party organizations inevitably end up being incumbent protection rackets because of network linkages and insider benefits.

The whole principle of gerrymandering is baed on two strategies: "packing" and "cracking."

Ted Cruz was selling this, and said if the account sits untouched that newborn will have at least $100K when they turn 18. If the parents contribute $5K which they can do, by age 35 the account will have around $700K. (Something like that, I might be off on the math. But a lot. A fair chunk of Democrats, probably about half of them are exactly that type of transactional voter. They simply want to get paid and the Dems will ensure tax money today is diverted to them even in a meager amount. 352 The state was already gerrymandered to be non competitive years ago, so I figured that the trap the Dems might fall into would be to actually make them competitive again. of course, they routinely steal a handful back in the 4 month vote fraud season.

An upcoming Scotus decision might put a crimp in post election season additions. I think it is better than even odds that Scotus finds counting federal votes after the election as unconstitutional.
