15 Nice thing about going to relatives home for Thanksgiving is not having to deal with a ton of leftovers. Tom and Barb have 3 refrigerators and they were full. Time to send food to the starving children in Africa like we we told to do when I was growing up. Since they don't have SNAP or other government handouts like Americans do.

23 Example of bad AI guidance: i need a new electric cord for the starter on my snow blower. The manufacturer specifies a cord no longer than ten feet using twelve or fourteen gauge wire. Risk of burning up the starter motor (high amperage) with a long cord.

AI says I can use sixteen gauge (thinner) wire with an extension cord up to one hundred feet.

25 Huang thinks that will take twenty years.

Gelsinger believes it may take as little as two.
_______
It'll happen as soon as the right people are in charge.

Posted by: Eeyore at November 29, 2025 04:44 AM (s0JqF)

26 @23 The burning risk would not be to the motor, but to the extension cord. Too much amperage would cause overheating of the wire. If you need more than ten feet, you use heavier wire and connectors.

"Minnie The Moocher" is based on an earlier drug song, "Willie The Weeper," which is in the more-or-less folk song collection The American Song Bag by Carl Sandburg. Sandburg was known for songs before he was a poet.

There is a charter high school here focused on the performing arts named for Cab Calloway, which is somewhat odd as he had no familial connection to this area.

There can be very much risk of motor damage due to too small a cord. It's voltage drop. The motor can't get enough voltage to get properly up to speed and torque, and just gets bogged down in a high current, low voltage regime.

In that regime, the efficiency is much lower and there is more heating of the windings. Energy is going to heat rather than mechanical energy.

Peer review getting flooded with AI-generated critiques would be yet another black mark against the myth that peer review, in and of itself, is the sine qua non of validating submissions to published journals.

Include the name(s) of the actual peer reviewers in the end notes of every academic paper, I say. Show how biased and corrupt the whole edifice is.

Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars (TM} at November 29, 2025 04:59 AM (xG4kz)

34 In terms of track record for making good bets on imminent technology, I'm favoring Huang. Gelsinger is still smouldering from the dumpster fire Intel continue to become when he came back to the company to run it. Much of the problems were beyond his control and started in the years he was away from the company but taking the CEO role means taking the blame for failed turnarounds. Gelsinger may have been better off staying retired from Intel and just being remembered as a major contributor to the 80386 design that secured Intel the dominant position in CPUs for decades.

The only thing I can think of is the software is modified to notice when the data corruption is occurring and do something based on that.

61 I assume Stephen Miller is speaking hypothetically (given that he's posing a hypothetical). In other words, he knows Palin was never a senator; he's using her as a hypothetical example because of the way she was treated for her targeting /crosshairs PAC map. The "if she was/had been a senator" is implied. That's how ai read it anyway.

1) The presence of National Guard troops has objectively reduced violent crime in D.C. so it’s not performative.

2) Even if you disagree with the policy, that is clearly not the reason for yesterday’s attack. Someone committed to carrying out such an attack would have found a target regardless if the national guard was deployed or not. In fact, their presence likely reduced the amount of harm this particular attacker did as others were able to heroically respond almost immediately.

When it gets light in a few minutes I'll go out and see if somebody stuck a note on my door. (It wouldn't be the management of this dump.
